For one, the company is ramping up its share-sale program, raising dilution concerns. On top of that, however, BBBY stock is sliding after the company reported a phishing scam which may have compromised some of its data.</p><p>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond was a prominent short-squeeze target in 2021 and then again earlier this year. However, it appears that the <b>Reddit</b> crowd isn’t coming to its rescue again today. The bad-news bears are fully in control.</p><p>The words “phishing scam” are enough to scare anyone away. Per<i>Reuters</i>, someone allegedly used this type of scam to improperly access company data.</p><p>Apparently, the perpetrator accessed the company’s “hard drive and certain shared drives of one of its employees.” However, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond doesn’t yet believe “any sensitive or personally identifiable information” has been compromised. Management also assured that the incident will likely not have any “material impact.”</p><p><b>What’s Happening With BBBY Stock?</b></p><p>BBBY stock was already reeling from the impact of high inflation on Bed Bath &amp; Beyond’s business over the past year. As of this writing, however, shares are down by another 8% and trading below the crucial $5 penny-stock level.</p><p>Of course, investors are certainly concerned about inflation and the possible data breach. But there’s another problem to consider. Specifically, a share-dilution issue is on the table today.</p><p>Not long ago, Bed Bath &amp; Beyondpreparedfor an at-the-market offering (ATM) of up to 12 million shares. At the time, this equated to 15% of the company’s outstanding shares.</p><p>BBBY stock fell when traders first heard about that news. Now, though, a similar event on a bigger scale is taking place. The company intends to sell an additional $150 million worth of shares. This $150 million extension to the at-the-market offering represents around 37.5% of Bed Bath &amp; Beyond’s market capitalization.</p><p>Reportedly, investors aren’t too pleased that Bed Bath &amp; Beyond is getting ready to sell more shares. So, some BBBY stock traders are undoubtedly discussing share-dilution concerns right now, among other issues. AMC Entertainment was among the five most purchased stocks on the platform and saw trading volume triple what’s been normal over the past month. Among the group’s top performers were GameStop and Express Inc. Newly-public Magic Empire Global Ltd., a little-known Hong Kong-based financial services firm, extended a 2,825% two-day surge since going public, attracting some retail attention.</p><p>“These meme stock rallies that are emerging will only last if US stocks broadly continue to head higher,” said Ed Moya, senior market strategist at Oanda. “After AMTD Digital reminded the WallStreetBets crowd of the potential skyrocketing moves, many retail traders are scanning their favorite plays and are looking to get back in.”</p><p>The rapid rise and subsequent fall for AMTD Digital Inc. both puzzled and captivated the markets. The stock posted an eye-popping surge of more than 32,000% at one point before erasing a chunk of gains.</p><p>Heavily-shorted stocks like Wayfair Inc., Rent the Runway Inc., and those that went public via blank-check merger including 23andMe Holding Co. saw double-digit rallies at one point as investors braced for volatility.</p><p><b>Short Squeeze</b></p><p>Short covering from institutional investors may have boosted the recent surge, according to some on Wall Street. More than half of Bed Bath &amp; Beyond shares available for trading are currently sold short, according to data from analytics firm S3 Partners, while AMC Entertainment, GameStop and Wayfair short interest each sit around 20%.</p><p>An index tracking hedge funds’ high-conviction bets rose 1.8% last week, trailing those favored by retail investors by 2.7 percentage points, the most since March, data compiled by Goldman Sachs show. Let’s go in that order.</p><p>The company commands a market capitalization of about $1.9 trillion, so of course, it has many assets. However, its main assets are Google.com and YouTube.com. Not only are these the two most popular websites in the world — akin to owning Boardwalk and Park Place in the game<i>Monopoly</i> — but they also boast strong growth.</p><p>That leads us to our second point. In combination with its cloud unit and other divisions, Alphabet continues to churn out impressive growth. Last quarter, revenue climbedmore than 32% YOY. This year, analysts expectsales growth of 16.7%. And for 2023, those estimates sit at 15.6%. Meanwhile, earnings growth forecasts are similar.</p><p>When it comes to free cash flow, Alphabet generated $67<i>billion</i>inFCF last year. That was up more than 55% from the prior year, while this figure grew more than 35% in each of the prior two years as well.</p><p>All of this growth is doing just one thing, which is growing the balance sheet. As of its latest quarter, Alphabet has $188 billion in current assets, almost $140 billion of which are in cash and short-term securities. They mark these devices up in price to the point where they alone generate an enormous business for Apple.</p><p>So, what then is the razor blade portion of the business? Services.</p><p>Last quarter, overall revenue grew 11%, whileServicesrevenuegrew almost 24%YOY. Not only is it outpacing the company’s Products revenue in terms of growth, and overall revenue growth, but Apple’s Services unit is more than twice as profitable as its Products business. Additionally, the rise of online and digital sales has only fueled this move, as consumers obviously find it easy to shop.</p><p>Specifically, with these two businesses, investors have been quick to critique the valuation by pointing out that Visa stock trades at more than 17 times its trailing 12-month revenue. In the past, this valuation has also been an issue.Even during generous market periods, that’s a rich valuation for many growth stocks.However, in those instances, investors aren’t taking profits into account for the growth stocks, because many don’t have any. And in the case of Visa, it’s incredibly profitable.</p><p>Overall, the company sports gross profit margins of almost 80% and net profit margins of 51.6%. These metrics aren’t back to the pre-pandemic highs just yet, but they are inching in that direction now. And yet, investors have reaped enormous rewards by staying long Visa and MasterCard.</p><p>In fact, 76% of revenue is converted into gross profit and almost <i>half</i> of revenue falls to the bottom line. In turn, MasterCard boasts a net profit margin of 46%. Of course, like Visa, these margins are not back to pre-pandemic levels; But they do continue to climb.</p><p>Collectively, the major risk to these businesses isn’t digital sales, cryptocurrencies or otherwise. It’s a recession, either globally or domestically. Aside from routinely landing among the top spots in the<i>Piper Sandler</i>teen survey, Starbucks remains a go-to “third place” for consumers of all ages.</p><p>The company may be out of its strong growth days, but Starbucks still generates impressive cash flow and growth. With that in mind, analysts expectabout 13% revenue growth this year, then a steady 8% to 9% growth ineach of the next three years.On the earnings front, analysts expect roughly 18% earnings growth this year, followed by more than 17% growth next year.</p><p>Furthermore, the recent dip in the stock has driven Starbucks’ dividend yield up above 2%.While it’s not winning many income investors over at that rate, it’s not bad for those of us with a long-term horizon that isn’t necessarily focused solely on dividend income. However, the company has made this yield a priority.</p><p>Starbucks has grown its dividend for 11 years now, with afive-year average growth rateof about 15.9%. The pair have powered a basket of 37 meme stocks tracked by Bloomberg higher by 10% over the past week while the most-hated stocks tracked by a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. basket is up roughly 17% over the same period.</p><p>The resurgence of more speculative areas of the market is likely fueled in part by individual traders willingness to jump on riskier trades and bet against hedge funds. A rally in tech shares and other growth stocks at one point on Monday pushed the Nasdaq 100 Index up 20% from a June low amid alarms from some on Wall Street that the Federal Reserve is set on fighting inflation regardless of the pain for the stock market.</p><p>The “smart guys” are “confused, baffled and fighting short positions from a position of weakness in terms of momentum and firepower,” said Mark Taylor, a sales trader at Mirabaud Securities. “The lack of real understanding of why a sudden resurrection of the meme-entum bid could lead to some nefarious speculation about things being manipulated but what would be as much sour grapes speculation as anything real.”</p><p>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond’s taking of the meme stock baton resulted in a 40% rally Monday as a record 120.5 million shares changed hands with the stock being the second-most bought asset on Fidelity’s platform. AMC Entertainment was among the five most purchased stocks on the platform and saw trading volume triple what’s been normal over the past month. Both company tickers, along with GameStop Corp., were the most mentioned on Reddit’s WallStreetBets platform.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8be1d32c4a2b3964a2145e24b9606f37\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>A basket of meme stocks tracked by Bloomberg rose 3.7%, extending a six-day rally of its own. Among the group’s top performers were GameStop and Express Inc. Newly-public Magic Empire Global Ltd., a little-known Hong Kong-based financial services firm, extended a 2,825% two-day surge since going public, attracting some retail attention.</p><p>“These meme stock rallies that are emerging will only last if US stocks broadly continue to head higher,” said Ed Moya, senior market strategist at Oanda. “After AMTD Digital reminded the WallStreetBets crowd of the potential skyrocketing moves, many retail traders are scanning their favorite plays and are looking to get back in.”</p><p>The rapid rise and subsequent fall for AMTD Digital Inc. both puzzled and captivated the markets. The stock posted an eye-popping surge of more than 32,000% at one point before erasing a chunk of gains.</p><p>Heavily-shorted stocks like Wayfair Inc., Rent the Runway Inc., and those that went public via blank-check merger including 23andMe Holding Co. saw double-digit rallies at one point as investors braced for volatility.</p><p><b>Short Squeeze</b></p><p>Short covering from institutional investors may have boosted the recent surge, according to some on Wall Street. More than half of Bed Bath &amp; Beyond shares available for trading are currently sold short, according to data from analytics firm S3 Partners, while AMC Entertainment, GameStop and Wayfair short interest each sit around 20%.</p><p>An index tracking hedge funds’ high-conviction bets rose 1.8% last week, trailing those favored by retail investors by 2.7 percentage points, the most since March, data compiled by Goldman Sachs show. While still early into August, the firm’s basket of retail favorites is on track for the best month since Jan. 2021 relative to firms favored by hedge funds. The retail basket carries names including Delta Airlines Inc., which just clocked the longest streak of weekly gains since 2020.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81902ac79640beaa7527d5c253ad967b\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>“Retail traders have to move quickly, because one headline can change the entire trajectory of the stock market,” said Quincy Krosby, chief global strategist at LPL Financial. “Retail traders are daring the Fed and they’re daring some professional investors, and they’re doing well so far.
