Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that even in the midst of the ongoing meltdown in technology stocks, the iPhone maker has outperformed the broader indexes and many of its peers.

From their peaks several months ago, the S&P 500Ā and the Nasdaq CompositeĀ indexes have declined 17% and 26%, respectively, while Apple stock has shed just 13%.

That performance notwithstanding, there are plenty of reasons for investors to buy Apple stock and hold forever.

1. It's Warren Buffett's largest holding

Given his extraordinary track record, investors could do far worse than following in the footsteps of legendary money manager Warren Buffett. Since taking the helm of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, the "Oracle of Omaha" has delivered mind-boggling returns, generating a compound annual growth rate of more than 20%. In fact, by the end of 2021, the company's overall returns clocked in at a staggering 3,641,613%.

Lest there be any doubt, Apple is far and away Berkshire's largest holding. Buffett ended the second quarter with nearly 895 million shares of Apple stock, worth roughly $122 billion as of June, 30, accounting for about 41% of Berkshire's portfolio. That's quite a vote of confidence from one of the world's most successful investors.

2. One billion iPhones strong -- and growing

There's no question that the release of the iconic iPhone in 2007 ushered in the modern smartphone and forever changed the way we communicate. The device's sleek design and integrated computing power took the world by storm. Now, as we await the release of the upcoming iPhone 14, Apple dominates the market, with more than 1 billion active iPhones in the wild.

Rumors are swirling that the next-generation device -- which is due to be unveiled next week -- could sport some major upgrades and four new models. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives estimates that roughly 24% of iPhone owners worldwide haven't upgraded their device over the past 3.5 years. Even in the midst of the prevailing macroeconomic headwinds, this could mark the beginning of the next big product cycle for the iPhone.

3. Apple is the new black

While the iPhone gets all the press, Apple's wearables, home products, and accessories segment -- which includes such products as Apple Watch, AirPods, AirTags, and Beats headphones -- continue to steadily attract converts. Earlier this year, noted tech analyst Horace Dediu announced that "Apple Wearables is now [the size of] a Fortune 100 business." In fact, the segment has generated more revenue so far in fiscal 2022 than either the Mac or the iPad.

Supply constraints and foreign exchange headwinds have weighed on the segment, which grew just 6% year over year through the first three quarters of fiscal 2022. That said, the resulting pent-up demand will eventually give way to a surge in sales. Furthermore, the company is expected to release the latest versions of its Apple Watch next week. These could include a Pro model, which could serve to supercharge sales of the popular device.

4. Services: Apple's second-biggest breadwinner

Long before anyone else, CEO Tim Cook saw the potential for Apple's services segment, announcing plans in early 2017 to double its revenue over the coming four years. Fast forward to mid-2022, and services has come into its own.

The segment, which includes Apple Music, the App Store, Apple Pay, and Apple TV+ (among others), just set a June quarter record,Ā generating 19% of Apple's total revenue. Services also saw revenue records in each major category, including all-time records for Music, Cloud Services, Apple Care, and Payment Services.

Apple TV+ began as something of an industry joke, with just eight programs and a documentary. But nobody's laughing now. Apple has netted more than 250 awards and over 1,100 nominations for its programming, including 52 Emmy Award nominations in 2022.

5. Dividends: The gift that keeps on giving

Apple began paying a dividend again in 2012 and has amassed quite an impressive track record. The quarterly payout began at a split-adjusted $0.095 and has soared 143% in just ten years.

This includes Apple's announcement earlier this year, which boosted the quarterly payout to $0.23 per share, an increase of 5% for 2022.Ā That likely won't be the last increase as Apple is using less than 15% of its profits to fund the payout, giving the company plenty of opportunity for future increases.

6. Fewer shares = a bigger slice of the Apple pie

Another highlight of Apple's shareholder-friendly policies is the company's strong share-repurchase plan. Apple began buying back shares in earnest in early 2013 and has never taken its foot off the gas. As a result, with each passing quarter, Apple shareholders own a larger share of the company. In fact, over the past 10 years, Apple's share count has declined by nearly 39%.

Data by YCharts.

As an example, the company retired roughly 1% of its shares in its fiscal third quarter and has no plans of slowing down. Earlier this year, Apple announced that it added another $90 billion to its existing share-repurchase program.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
6 Reasons to Buy Apple Stock Now and Never Sell
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n6 Reasons to Buy Apple Stock Now and Never Sell\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-09-05 23:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Even as the bear market lingers, investors might be surprised to learn that Apple still holds the title of most valuable publicly traded company, with its market cap recently clocking in at $2.55 ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"č¹ę"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/09/05/6-reasons-to-buy-apple-stock-now-and-never-sell/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2265703480","content_text":"Even as the bear market lingers, investors might be surprised to learn that Apple still holds the title of most valuable publicly traded company, with its market cap recently clocking in at $2.55 trillion. The quarterly payout began at a split-adjusted $0.095 and has soared 143% in just ten years. This includes Apple's announcement earlier this year, which boosted the quarterly payout to $0.23 per share, an increase of 5% for 2022.Ā That likely won't be the last increase as Apple is using less than 15% of its profits to fund the payout, giving the company plenty of opportunity for future increases.6. Fewer shares = a bigger slice of the Apple pieAnother highlight of Apple's shareholder-friendly policies is the company's strong share-repurchase plan. Apple began buying back shares in earnest in early 2013 and has never taken its foot off the gas. As a result, with each passing quarter, Apple shareholders own a larger share of the company. In fact, over the past 10 years, Apple's share count has declined by nearly 39%.Data by YCharts. As an example, the company retired roughly 1% of its shares in its fiscal third quarter and has no plans of slowing down. Earlier this year, Apple announced that it added another $90 billion to its existing share-repurchase program.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":364,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9024578670,"gmtCreate":1653894783590,"gmtModify":1676535359378,"author":{"id":"4107136975875500","authorId":"4107136975875500","name":"AneeshAneesh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4107136975875500","authorIdStr":"4107136975875500"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I believe the valuation is wrongly low because of US sentiments towards China[Speechless] ","listText":"I believe the valuation is wrongly low because of US sentiments towards China[Speechless] ","text":"I believe the valuation is wrongly low because of US sentiments towards China[Speechless]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9024578670","repostId":"2239294524","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2239294524","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1653892077,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2239294524?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-30 14:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Alibaba: The Valuation Is Just Wrong","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2239294524","media":"Seekingalpha","summary":"Alibaba's (NYSE:BABA) shares rallied 15% after the Chinese e-Commerce company submitted earnings res","content":"

Alibaba's (NYSE:BABA) shares rallied 15% after the Chinese e-Commerce company submitted earnings results for the last quarter of FY 2022 on Thursday. Alibaba easily sailed past revenue and earnings predictions and I believe sentiment regarding Chinese companies has deteriorated too much at this point. Although Alibaba skipped its guidance for FY 2023, the firm's valuation still makes very little sense. Investors are underpricing Alibabaās earnings potential!

Previous expectations

In my previous work on Alibaba, I mentioned the very real possibility of Alibaba outperforming EPS predictions on Thursday which have gone through a significant downward revision cycle over the last year. Low expectations were the main reason why I thought Alibaba could outperform low consensus EPS predictions. And this is what Alibaba did: The company reported Q4ā22 adjusted EPS of $1.18 which beat predictions by $0.10. Additionally, Alibaba beat on revenues as well.

Seeking Alpha

Alibabaās e-Commerce growth

Overall, Alibabaās revenues increased 9% in the last quarter to 204.1B Chinese Yuan which calculates to $32.2B. Alibabaās core China e-Commerce revenues increased 8% year over year to 140.3B Chinese Yuan ($22.1B), which was an improvement over the previous quarter which saw 7% top line growth. So, Alibaba slightly improved its performance in its most important business quarter over quarter. Alibaba also saw continual strength in Local Consumer Services where revenues surged 29% year over year to $10.4B Chinese Yuan ($1.6B) and the Cloud segment which saw its revenues increase by 12% year over year to 19.0B Chinese Yuan ($3.0B).

Alibaba

What stood out positively from Alibabaās earnings sheet was that the company continued to make progress expanding its e-Commerce platform despite a challenged macro environment. Alibaba added 28M new accounts to its ecosystem in the last quarter, the majority of which (25M) were added in China. Alibabaās domestic e-Commerce business is still the firmās largest revenue source, contributing 69% of total revenues. However, Alibaba has a huge opportunity to grow its other businesses as well, especially its logistics operations which are vertically integrated into Alibabaās e-Commerce operations, and its Cloud segment. I recently described the progress Alibaba is making in the Cloud business.

Alibaba

Alibaba ended the quarter with 1.3B active customer accounts in its enterprise. Over the last year, Alibaba added a massive 177M new customers to its platform which creates a base for long term earnings and free cash flow growth.

Alibabaās share buybacks

Before Alibaba released earnings, I mentioned that the company likely used its free cash flow in the last quarter to repurchase a ton of shares. It was obvious to me that the e-Commerce company would repurchase a lot of shares considering that Alibaba just up-sized its stock buyback from $15B to $25B at the time and that the stock traded at unreasonably low prices in March.

I like it when companies increase their buybacks when stock valuations are depressed and Alibaba did in fact repurchase a significant amount of shares in the last quarter. In Q4ā22, Alibaba repurchased approximately 17.8M American Depositary Shares for about $2.0B. I expected a minimum share repurchase of $2.0B. In the last twelve months, Alibaba repurchased 60M American Depositary Shares for a total consideration of $9.6B.

Alibaba

Skipped earnings guidance

Alibaba did not provide earnings guidance which it normally does at the beginning of the fiscal year. The e-Commerce firm cited uncertainties related to COVID-19 as a reason not to provide guidance. Normally, a lack of guidance is not well received and stocks of companies that donāt guide are punished by the market. In this case, however, things are different. Alibabaās shares have been so battered so much since the fourth-quarter of 2020 that investors cheer results even if they are more mediocre.

Alibabaās valuation is wrong: Undervalued e-Commerce prospects

Alibabaās stock market valuation makes very little sense to me. This is because, for one, Alibaba is very profitable. Alibaba generated net income of 47.1B Chinese Yuan ($7.4B) in FY 2022 while adjusted net income was 136.4B or $21.5B. There is some serious profitability in Alibabaās business and investors donāt seem to appreciate this right now. Additionally, we are dealing with one of the largest e-Commerce empires in the world regarding account size and reach, but Alibaba's valuation still does not reflect those factors. Shares of Alibaba trade at a P-E ratio of 10 X. JD.com (JD), for example, has a P-E ratio nearly twice as high as Alibaba's. Alibaba's historical valuation shows a P-E ratio as high as 30 X. As wrong as Alibaba's valuation is, it represents deep value and low risk.

Data by YCharts

Risks with Alibaba

Alibaba faces continual top line risks related to a slowdown in the Chinese e-Commerce market. While Alibaba is investing in other businesses to diversify its revenue mix, a continual moderation in top line growth poses a risk for Alibaba and the stock. What would change my mind about Alibaba is if earnings and free cash flow prospects in the e-Commerce business seriously deteriorated or Beijing announced new crackdowns on the company.

Final thoughts

I expected Alibaba to do better than estimates in Q4ā22, in large part because investor expectations have been driven too low. Given the circumstances with COVID-19 lockdowns and a regulatory onslaught in the last year, Alibaba did a good job in squeezing out 9% revenue growth.

Alibaba does have some problems, like slowing top line growth and reliance on domestic e-Commerce transactions, but the firmās irrationally low valuation is not of them. Alibaba added a significant number (177M) of new accounts in the last twelve months which speaks to the strength and the appeal of Alibabaās various e-Commerce platforms. Alibabaās growth is still widely undervalued and I believe the valuation is just plain wrong!

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Alibaba: The Valuation Is Just Wrong
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAlibaba: The Valuation Is Just Wrong\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-05-30 14:27 GMT+8 Seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Alibaba's (NYSE:BABA) shares rallied 15% after the Chinese e-Commerce company submitted earnings results for the last quarter of FY 2022 on Thursday. The latest quarterly update comes against a backdrop of a contracting Chinese economy, supply chain woes and the recent zero-COVID lockdowns.Taking these factors into consideration, ahead of the print, Bairdās 5-star analyst Colin Sebastian thinks some revisions are in order on the outlook for F23.The analyst now anticipates F1Q23 (June) revenues will increase by 4% year-over-year to reach Ā„214.7 billion, below the prior forecast of Ā„228.4 billion. This factors in the China commerce and international commerce segments dialing in revenue of Ā„144.8 billion and Ā„15.9 billion, respectively, vs. the Ā„157.4 billion and Ā„16.7 billion expected before. Sebastianās full year forecast now calls for revenue of Ā„945.7 billion, below the previous estimate of Ā„959.3 billion. The new revised estimates āprimarily reflect the deceleration in e-commerce and retail sales reported by China's NBS for April.ā āAdditionally,ā Sebastian explained, āwe believe that additional headwinds from recent pandemic-related lock downs in certain cities could impact New Retail and advertising revenues.āThere are also respective reductions to the F1Q and FY23 EBITA estimates; these now stand at Ā„45 billion (representing a 20% margin) and Ā„149.8 billion (15.8% margin vs. the prior 18.6%).Despite the ānear-term headwinds,ā the company's continued focus on innovation and product development is encouraging and there have been signs the operating climate for Internet companies in China may be ānormalizing.āāIf that proves accurate,ā says the analyst, āwe believe there could be material upside in shares over the long term. For now, however, we think management's tone could remain cautious with respect to near-term growth and margins.āOther things to look out for on the earnings call include the recent lockdownsā effect on the supply chain, the state of the regulatory environment, the progress of Taobao Deals and Taocaicai, growth and margins of the Cloud segment and the companyās capex plans. All in all, Sebastian reiterated an Outperform (i.e. Buy) rating on BABA shares along with a $144 price target. Should his thesis play out, a potential upside of ~75% could be in the cards.Overall, the analysts are fully behind Alibaba right now; based on Buys only - 18, in total - the stock boasts a Strong Buy consensus rating. Shares are priced at $82.47, and their $168.79 average price target suggests room for ~105% growth on the one-year time horizon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":556,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9064716765,"gmtCreate":1652368881658,"gmtModify":1676535087036,"author":{"id":"4107136975875500","authorId":"4107136975875500","name":"AneeshAneesh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4107136975875500","authorIdStr":"4107136975875500"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a An armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine has created an atmosphere of panic unlike any in recent memory. Various media outlets have described the crisis as the biggest armed conflict in Europe sinceĀ World War 2. The days-old conflict has already claimedĀ hundreds of lives, and displaced hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. It is a very frightening, and tragic, situation.

So, it shouldn't come as any surprise that markets have been jittery since the war began. On February 24, the first day after Russia's invasion, markets opened1.65% lowerĀ than they closed the day before. In subsequent trading days, the markets regained what they had lost, and then some. Nevertheless, scary sounding headlines continued to be released for the remainder of the week. Some examples include:

"These 13 Stocks Implode as the World Prepares for War." (Investor's Business Daily).

"Stocks tank as War Threat intensifies." (Morningstar).

"War Will Give Stocks no Peace." (Forbes).

The subtext of these headlines couldn't be clearer:

War is a scary prospect for stock market investors. Be very afraid!

To be sure, there are legitimate reasons to be afraid of war. The human toll is very real, and wars can bring short term economic disruptions as well. The war in Ukraine has reportedly taken energy pipelines offline, contributing to higher energy costs and inflation. So there are very real reasons to be concerned. The question is,"is the stock market one of these reasons?"

Going by history, no. Although the flash point moments in war do tend to be correlated with brief selloffs, stocks recover from these events quickly. There was only one case in the last 100 years in which a war was correlated with a long-term decline in stock prices but, as you're about to see, the war was not likely what caused stocks to go down that time. Generally speaking, wars can coincide with panic selling, but it doesn't last long. Given this, it would be foolhardy to sell your stocks right now because of the situation in Eastern Europe.

Wars and Stocks: the Correlation

If we look at historical market data, we can see that the very early moments of wars do tend to be correlated with stock market selloffs. A recentFortune articleĀ reviewed five major conflict situations and how they impacted stocks. It concluded that war-related stock market dips do occur, but tend to be short lived. The examples given are:

World War 1: the Dow fell 30%, then was closed for six months, then surged 88% in 1915.

World War 2: 2.9% drawdown on the morning of the Pearl Harbor attack. Losses erased within a month.

Cuban Missile Crisis: tiny 1.2% selloff followed by a 10% gain for the remainder of the year.

9/11: 15% selloff within days of the attack. The market didn't find a bottom this time until 2002. It then went on to enter a bull market that lasted until 2008.

U.S. invading Iraq: stocks jumped 2.3% on the day of the invasion and ended the year up 30%.

I've included a chart below, borrowed fromĀ Trading Economics, that shows the approximate dates of the events above (except World War 1). Looking at it visually, you can see that all of these war-related events coincided with near term lows, but were followed by long-term gains. The one exception is 9/11: it took stocks nearly a year to find a bottom after that one. However, in that particular case, the long-term downtrend was not actually caused by the attack, as I'll explain shortly.

Trading Economics

As you can see, 9/11 occurred about halfway through a bear market that began in 2000 and ended in 2002. It was the one "war" related event of the five mentioned in Fortune that was followed by prolonged bearishness. However, it was also the one where there was a lot more than conflict contributing to the selloff. The 9/11 crash occurred about halfway through theĀ Dotcom bubble burst. The bear market of the time was caused by the rapid collapse in prices of high flying tech stocks, some of which went bankrupt and were delisted. Notable examples included:

Pets.com (went bankrupt).

Priceline (acquired after falling 94%).

Garden.com (shut down after falling to 9 cents a share).

All of these stocks went bust long before 9/11 was part of the conversation. Therefore, it's hard to say how much of the losses in the 2000-2002 period were due to the bubble collapsing, and how much were due to 9/11. The 2000 bubble collapsed mainly due to valuation concerns, companies experiencing financial strain, and a series of interest rate hikes in1999 and 2000. At the peak, theĀ NASDAQĀ had a 175 P/E ratio. These factors probably contributed to the 2000-2002 bear market more than any conflict did.

If we take the post-9/11 selloff without the historical context, then it took the markets a little under a year to recover from the 15% drawdown. That's not too bad, all things considered. Of course, the markets took much longer to get back to the highs set in 2000. The S&P 500 tookĀ six yearsĀ to get back to the previous top, the NASDAQ a full 15! So the bear market of 2000-2002 was quite long, and the recovery from it was even longer. But again, most of it took place long before 9/11. The losses incurred in the immediate aftermath of that event reversed in less than a year.

Why Isn't War Bad For Stocks?

Having established that war has not historically been bad for the stock market, the next logical question to ask is, "why?" War is certainly among the most destructive mass-scale activities human beings participate in. Lives are lost, infrastructure is destroyed, people are displaced, and the list just goes on and on. It certainly seems like wars destroy a lot of value. Why, then, do stocks generally go up when they are happening?

First, it helps to understand how broad the stock market really is.

To begin with just the U.S., the Wilshire 5000 index consists of 3,500 stocks. It is generally taken as equivalent to the total U.S. stock market. It may exclude some OTC stocks, but it is a pretty good proxy for U.S. listed securities.

Looking abroad, there are even more stocks to choose from. The OECD says that there are41,000 listed equitiesĀ globally, and the number rises every year.

What all of this means is that the universe of stocks is very large. It follows logically from this that different stocks will respond to armed conflict in different ways. While you might find some companies out there that lose money because of armed conflict, you'll find others that won't. Some companies will inevitably do just fine. Out of respect for the lives in jeopardy in Eastern Europe right now, I will avoid any talk of arms dealers, defense contractors and other "war beneficiary" stocks. But I will draw your attention to one major industry that serves as a perfect illustration of how companies can thrive during wars:

Energy

As you might be aware, the Russia/Ukraine war hasĀ severely disruptedĀ global energy supplies. Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline has been suspended, pipelines in Ukraine have beenĀ knocked out, and Western energy companies have withdrawn from Russia. Without a doubt, there are Russian energy companies that could lose a lot of money over this.Gazprom(OTCPK:OGZPY), for example, is heavily invested in the now suspended Nord Stream 2. Its stock had fallen 35% for the year before trading was suspended on February 25th. That's noteworthy because energy stocks as a whole rose in the same period.

So, Russian energy stocks are in a bad place right now.

But remember:

It's a big world out there.

All of the oil that's not flowing because of the Russia/Ukraine conflict has to be supplied by someone else. And because of the supply shock, that "someone else" is going to collect higher prices on the oil they sell. When supply decreases but demand is unchanged, prices rise. And right now, the global supply of oil is being reduced.

There are many companies that can thrive in such an environment. If you look at a Canadian energy company likeĀ Suncor Energy(SU), for example, it is about as insulated from the Russia/Ukraine situation as you can imagine. It makes money by sellingĀ gasoline to CanadiansĀ and by exporting crude oil to Americans. None of this is in any way threatened by the situation in Eastern Europe. YetĀ oil pricesĀ are rising worldwide, even in regions that are not being directly impacted by the conflict. Gasoline prices areĀ rising right along sideĀ them. All of this means that Suncor gets to charge higher prices for its products than it did before. That results in higher earnings, as we saw the fourth quarter. In Q4, Suncor's funds from operations (FFO)grew 157%year-over-year. Net income and operating income swung from losses to profits. That was all thanks to oil prices rising year-over-year. Today, oil prices are even higher than they were in Q4, having set new 7 year highs. So Suncor should do even better in Q1.

What this example illustrates is the fact that equities can respond to crises in surprising ways. Sure, some are damaged by pandemonium, but others can do just fine. Overall, the presence of disorder in the world shouldn't affect your outlook. As history shows, it has little effect on the markets.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Fear, Panic And War Are Bad Reasons To Sell Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFear, Panic And War Are Bad Reasons To Sell Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-03-02 11:50 GMT+8 TheStreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryMany people are concerned that the war in Ukraine will damage their portfolios. It is natural to be worried during scary situations, but history shows that times like now are poor times to sell....
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".SPX":"S&P 500 Index",".DJI":"éē¼ęÆ",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite"},"source_url":"https://www.thestreet.com/apple/news/how-important-is-russia-to-apples-business","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1162614571","content_text":"SummaryMany people are concerned that the war in Ukraine will damage their portfolios. It is natural to be worried during scary situations, but history shows that times like now are poor times to sell.Generally speaking, stock market declines due to disaster scenarios are very short lived. In this article, I will make the case that many stocks (particularly energy stocks) will do just fine in this environment. The world is a scary place right now. Today, oil prices are even higher than they were in Q4, having set new 7 year highs. So Suncor should do even better in Q1.What this example illustrates is the fact that equities can respond to crises in surprising ways. Sure, some are damaged by pandemonium, but others can do just fine. Overall, the presence of disorder in the world shouldn't affect your outlook. As history shows, it has little effect on the markets.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":247,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9097601814,"gmtCreate":1645423669588,"gmtModify":1676534026929,"author":{"id":"4107136975875500","authorId":"4107136975875500","name":"AneeshAneesh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4107136975875500","authorIdStr":"4107136975875500"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"It's not just the certifications to run the business, but we also have to look at how busy cities which have congestion problems would not be able to use this technology because their airspace is already filled with planes. For example, suppose Tesla manages to reduce the accident rate from 6 million a year (the total number of car accidents in 2018 in the U.S. and assuming all cars are self driven) to 1 million -- which would be incredible -- that's still 1 million lawsuits a year the company will face.

Joby, meanwhile, is changing the transportation landscape in a three-dimensional way. The long-term upside is so massive, I want to have a minor ownership now, in the hopes that Joby can pull off what the company is trying to do.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":211,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3479274804998780","authorId":"3479274804998780","name":"quixy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5db4d62c071dcb2907bb17a6acb6ce29","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3479274804998780","authorIdStr":"3479274804998780"},"content":"I want to know which company you are talking about.","text":"I want to know which company you are talking about.","html":"I want to know which company you are talking about."}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9092369874,"gmtCreate":1644538852818,"gmtModify":1676533938267,"author":{"id":"4107136975875500","authorId":"4107136975875500","name":"AneeshAneesh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4107136975875500","authorIdStr":"4107136975875500"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please","listText":"Like please","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9092369874","repostId":"2210187875","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2210187875","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1644532585,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2210187875?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-11 06:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street Ends down Sharply on Fears of Aggressive Fed Rate Hikes","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2210187875","media":"Reuters","summary":"* CPI rose 7.5% in January, above estimates* Bullard \"dramatically\" more hawkish* Disney jumps on upbeat quarterly results* Indexes: Dow -1.47%, S&P 500 -1.81%, Nasdaq -2.10%Feb 10 (Reuters) - Wall St","content":"

* CPI rose 7.5% in January, above estimates

* Bullard "dramatically" more hawkish

* Disney jumps on upbeat quarterly results

* Indexes: Dow -1.47%, S&P 500 -1.81%, Nasdaq -2.10%

Feb 10 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended sharply lower on Thursday after U.S. consumer prices data came in hotter than expected and subsequent comments from a Federal Reserve official raised fears the U.S. central bank will hike rates aggressively to fight inflation.

U.S. Labor Department data showed consumer prices surged 7.5% last month on a year-over-year basis, topping economists' estimates of 7.3% and marking the biggest annual increase in inflation in 40 years.

U.S. stocks fell further after St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard said the data had made him "dramatically" more hawkish. Invest in These Stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2217930354","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These companies are passive income machines.","content":"

Investing in dividend-paying companies can be a great way to generate passive income. Historically, some of the best dividend stocks have been real estate investment trusts (REITs). They typically offer above-average dividend yields, with their payouts steadily growing over time.

The sector's higher yields allow investors to generate more dividend income with a lower up-front investment. For example, $20,000 invested across four high-quality, high-yielding REITs --Ā W.P. CareyĀ (NYSE:WPC),Ā EPR PropertiesĀ (NYSE:EPR),Ā Realty IncomeĀ (NYSE:O), andĀ Medical Properties TrustĀ (NYSE:MPW) -- can deliver more than $1,000 of annual income.

Real estate-backed income streams

REITs are one of the easiest ways of generating truly passive income. These professionally managed entities typically own income-generating commercial buildings secured by leases with high-quality tenants. REITs must distribute at least 90% of their net income to investors via dividends to maintain their tax-advantaged status. Because of that, the average REIT offers aĀ dividend yieldĀ of around 3% these days, more than double that of the typical stock in theĀ S&P 500.

This particular quartet provides an even more attractive income stream, with dividend yields between 4.5% and 6.5%. Their higher yields mean that a $20,000 investment spread evenly across these four REITs would generate more than $1,100 in annual dividend income, as seen in the chart.

Company

Investment

Current Dividend Yield

Annual Income

W.P. Carey is a diversified REIT that focuses on owning operationally critical real estate. It owns more than 1,300 properties across the warehouse, industrial, office, retail, and self-storage sectors net leased to high-quality tenants. That lease structure makes the tenant responsible for maintenance, building insurance, and real estate taxes, enabling W.P. Carey to generate very stable rental income.

The company complements its portfolio with a high-quality financial profile. It has an investment-grade balance sheet and a reasonable dividend payout ratio. That gives it the financial flexibility to continue expanding its portfolio to grow its dividend. W.P. Carey has increased its payout every year since its initial public offering in 1998.

Meanwhile, EPR Properties is a specialty REIT focused on experiential real estate like movie theaters and attractions net leased to tenants that operate these experiences. While it faced some pandemic-related headwinds, the REIT has come out the other side even stronger.

It has an investment-grade credit rating and a reasonable dividend payout ratio of 75% of its funds from operations. The REIT also has a cash-rich balance sheet. Because of that, the company plans to return to growth mode this year after pausing most acquisitions during the early stages of the pandemic. It expects to invest between $500 million to $700 million acquiring additional experiential real estate, which would put its big-time dividend -- which it pays monthly -- on an even firmer foundation. Those deals could enable it to keep increasing its dividend. It recently boosted the payout by 15% after reinstating it last year.Ā

Realty Income also pays a monthly dividend. TheĀ retail REITĀ has one of the best dividend track records in the REIT sector. It has increased its payout in each of the last 97 straight quarters.

This REIT has ample room to continue growing its payout. Realty Income has a top-notch balance sheet and a conservative dividend payout ratio. That gives it the financial flexibility to continue acquiring high-quality retail properties that are net leased to durable tenants resistant to the headwinds from e-commerce and recessions.

Finally, Medical Properties Trust is a healthcare REITĀ focused on hospitals net leased to healthcare systems. These properties have demonstrated their importance to society during the pandemic.

The company has a solid financial profile, giving it the flexibility to continue expanding its portfolio. Last year, it made $3.9 billion of new investments, which helped grow its funds from operations at a double-digit-per-share rate. That growth enabled Medical Properties Trust to increase its dividend for the ninth straight year. With plenty of owner-operated hospitals out there, the REIT has lots of growth still ahead.

The lazy landlord portfolio

W.P. Carey, EPR Properties, Realty Income, and Medical Properties all generate stable rental income backed by high-quality real estate net leased to quality tenants. CareyĀ (NYSE:WPC),Ā EPR PropertiesĀ (NYSE:EPR),Ā Realty IncomeĀ (NYSE:O), andĀ Medical Properties TrustĀ (NYSE:MPW) -- can deliver more than $1,000 of annual income.Real estate-backed income streamsREITs are one of the easiest ways of generating truly passive income. These professionally managed entities typically own income-generating commercial buildings secured by leases with high-quality tenants. REITs must distribute at least 90% of their net income to investors via dividends to maintain their tax-advantaged status. Because of that, the average REIT offers aĀ dividend yieldĀ of around 3% these days, more than double that of the typical stock in theĀ S&P 500.This particular quartet provides an even more attractive income stream, with dividend yields between 4.5% and 6.5%. Their higher yields mean that a $20,000 investment spread evenly across these four REITs would generate more than $1,100 in annual dividend income, as seen in the chart.CompanyInvestmentCurrent Dividend YieldAnnual IncomeW.P. It recently boosted the payout by 15% after reinstating it last year.Ā Realty Income also pays a monthly dividend. The lazy landlord portfolioW.P. Carey, EPR Properties, Realty Income, and Medical Properties all generate stable rental income backed by high-quality real estate net leased to quality tenants. They also boast strong financial profiles. That puts their big-time dividends on solid ground and gives them the flexibility to continue expanding. These features make them excellent investments for those who want to collect at least $1,000 in truly passive income each year.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":120,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9097580619,"gmtCreate":1645497040657,"gmtModify":1676534033664,"author":{"id":"4107136975875500","authorId":"4107136975875500","name":"AneeshAneesh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4107136975875500","authorIdStr":"4107136975875500"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please","listText":"Like please","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9097580619","repostId":"1108282943","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1108282943","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1645003624,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1108282943?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-16 17:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"What You Need to Know Before Alibaba's Q3 Earnings","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108282943","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Alibaba is set to release itsĀ third-quarter fiscal 2022 results on Feb. 24Ā beforeĀ theĀ marketĀ open. An","content":"

Alibaba is set to release itsĀ third-quarter fiscal 2022 results on Feb. 24Ā beforeĀ theĀ marketĀ open.

AnalystĀ Opinion

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect Alibaba to report sales of $38.8 billion, delivering earnings before interest, taxes, and amortizationāthe preferred adjusted measure of profitsājust shy of $7.1 billion, or earnings per share (EPS) of $2.52.

The estimated sales figure would mark 13% growth from the December quarter of 2020.

Earnings on an adjusted basis are actually expected to fall 25% from a year ago, when Covid-19 pandemic-era e-commerce was on a tear, but be more than 60% higher than in the September quarter.

Factors to Consider

Alibabaās strong efforts to add value to consumers and sellers through product enrichment efforts and platform innovations are expected to have driven growth in its e-commerce business in the to-be-reported quarter by driving its customer momentum.

New monetization formats and strengthening online physical goods GMV on China retail marketplaces are expected to have aided customer management revenues of the company in the quarter under review.

The growing momentum across paying members on 1688.com is expected to have been a tailwind for the China commerce wholesale business in the fiscal third quarter.

The infusion of advanced technologies along with increasing validation for Taobao and Tmall portals is expected to have been beneficial in the quarter to be reported. Therefore, international tech market investors might consider a position in SE stock.

Just as a Bollywood movie is typically rife with action and drama, Sea Limited has provided active traders with constant excitement and thrills. However, not every development has been a positive one.

Notably, regulators in India have taken steps to crack down on perceived cybersecurity threats. As weāll see, Sea Limited and its shareholder may have suffered collateral damage due to Indiaās regulatory measures.

Even as SE stock falls, though, not everyone is pessimistic about Sea Limited. Indeed, thereās at least one well-known investor whose fund bought the dip with a mega-scale share purchase.

A Closer Look at SE Stock

After the U.S. equities market bottomed out in March of 2020, many technology stocks rallied hard. Some of them went up too far and too fast and were probably due for a correction.

This may have been the case with SE stock, which soared from $38 in March 2020 to $372.70 in October 2021. An almost-900% return on investment might be something to celebrate, but it is also an indication that a retracement is likely imminent.

There arenāt any meaningful support levels to speak of here, as the Sea Limited share price just ascended without interruption and then crashed. To quote InvestorPlace contributor Brian Paradza, Free Fire was Sea Limitedās breakthrough video game and a āmagic wandā for the company.

Developed by Sea Limited subsidiary Garena, Free Fire is known to be addictive. This game, along with other video-game titles, helped Sea Limitedās Digital Entertainment segment surpass 729 million active users by September 2021.

That magic wand was recently broken, however. Reportedly, Indiaās Ministry of Home Affairs has banned Free Fire, along with 53 other apps, not all belonging to Sea Limited.

In response to this ban and Free Fireās unavailability on certain platforms in India, Garena stated, āWe are working to address this situation, and we apologise to our users for any inconvenience.ā

Wood Buys the Dip

As you might expect, the Free Fire ban didnāt help SE stock stay afloat at all. If anything, it probably hastened the stockās drawdown.

Famous investor Cathie Wood doesnāt seem to be deterred by the stockās decline, however. In a Bollywood-like dramatic turn of events, Woodās Ark Invest reportedly purchased over 145,000 shares of Sea Limited. I cannot confirm Woodās reasons for approving such a large share purchase. Still, it is possible that she simply saw an irresistible value proposition in Sea Limited.

Prospective investors should understand that video games arenāt Sea Limitedās only revenue source. Woodās involvement is an interesting point to mention, though.

More importantly, Sea Limitedās revenue doesnāt solely rely on Free Fire. The company can continue to generate capital with or without that particular game.

In the final analysis, donāt count on SE stock to provide another 900% rally anytime soon.
