While it could go a bit higher ... we remain convicted it’s still a bear market and we would use this strength to position more defensively,” Morgan Stanley’s Michael Wilson said in a note Monday.</p><p>The S&amp;P 500 recouped nearly half of its correction losses last week as investors received highly anticipated clarity from the Federal Reserve, which raised interest rates for the first time since 2018. The central bank signaled it expects to raise rates at its remaining six meetings this year.</p><p>Market participants are also monitoring the war between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned if peace talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin fail, it would mean the start of a “third world war.”</p><p>Ukrainian and Russian officials have met intermittently for peace talks, which have failed to progress to key concessions. Ukraine has also rejected an ultimatum to surrender the city of Mariupol to Russian troops.</p><p>Investors are also evaluating a rise in Covid cases in Europe stemming from an emerging variant.</p><p>“We still don’t believe a sustainable bottom is in place, given our views that the geopolitical situation remains extremely fluid, inflation should continue to come in hot, and the growth outlook is weakening,” Wolfe Research’s Chris Senyek said in a note Monday.</p><p>The economic calendar is relatively light this week but several companies report earnings. Part of the reason it that the company has new products coming this year.</p><p>Its ET7 luxury sedan is due to begin shipping this month, followed by the smaller ET5 sedan later in the fall. Nio is also expanding outside of China. Europe is expected to be <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the largest EV markets globally, and the company has already established a presence there.</p><p>In a further sign of its expansion plans outside of China, Nio reportedly has a new agreement with the state-owned China National Technical Import and Export Corporation to pursue the construction of EV infrastructure and support services in overseas markets, according to industry follower CnEVPost.</p><p>The report says the agreement will focus on Europe to &#34;provide solutions for the export, installation, commissioning, and delivery of Nio&#39;s battery swap stations.&#34; Those swap stations allow Nio customers to purchase vehicles with lower up-front costs along with a subscription plan for battery replacements at the swap stations. The company says it takes only minutes, and is another form of income for Nio as it works to grow its customer base.</p><p>While risks related to both the business and outside factors have driven Nio shares to a multi-year low, some investors might feel those risks are now priced in, making it a good time to consider buying the stock.</p><h2>Both of Ford&#39;s business units have their advantages</h2><p><b>Daniel Foelber (Ford):</b> Like most EV stocks, Ford has been absolutely hammered in recent weeks. We aren&#39;t even through the first three months of the year, and the stock has already climbed as high as $24.37 per share and as low as $15.51.</p><p>Due to heightened market volatility and Ford&#39;s heavy investment in the EV industry, it could continue to be a volatile stock. However, investors would be better-suited turning their attention to Ford&#39;s long-term future, which is brighter than ever before.</p><p>On March 2, Ford announced it was splitting its business into two divisions: the Model e division, which will focus on EVs; and the Blue division, which will be responsible for Ford&#39;s legacy internal combustion engine (ICE) business. The business units are expected to work in tandem, with Ford Blue supplying the bulk of the profit to support Ford Model e, which is expected to contribute the majority of Ford&#39;s long-term growth.</p><p>Ford is an attractive automotive stock because it is already profitable and is less vulnerable to short-term supply chain challenges that have stunted the growth of other automakers like <b>Lucid Group</b> and <b>Rivian Automotive</b> and resulted in unsustainable cash burn.</p><p>Ford also pays a quarterly dividend of $0.10 per share for an annualized yield of 2.5%, which makes it one of the few electric car stocks that is also a worthy dividend stock. And to top it all off, it&#39;s not expensive relative to its earnings and growth rate.</p><p>Lastly, Ford has been much more vocal than its competitors when it comes to making sizable EV investments early and setting short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. It expects to produce 600,000 EVs per year by the end of 2023 and more than 2 million EVs per year by 2026. I&#39;m upbeat on AMC&#39;s long-term prospects, but the near-term outlook is murky at best. After a promising bump in ticket sales late last year, folks are steering clear of the local movie theater again. Ticket sales so far this year are 42% below where they were at this point in 2019 -- and 53% less through mid-March of 2018 and 2017.</p><p>Last week&#39;s shocking purchase of a small stake in an upstart mining company also has all the makings of that &#34;jump the shark&#34; moment for AMC. Did you see the big run in the mining stock in the days <i>before</i> the deal was announced? That&#39;s problematic, and so is gambling away money in an unrelated field after already diluting shareholders fivefold over the past two years. AMC has made some smart moves to grab market share among exhibitors, but it made a dumb move last week and the gravity-defying shares didn&#39;t notice.</p><p>There&#39;s a fair chance that AMC stock is trading higher a year from now, especially with a strong pipeline of movies on the way. I still think the next step in the near term is down after last week&#39;s head-scratching move.</p><p>BuzzFeed</p><p>One of the companies reporting financial results this week is BuzzFeed. If you didn&#39;t know that the online media company was public, that&#39;s probably because it only started trading in December, when it became one of the last SPAC deals of 2021. It&#39;s been a disaster, like so many SPAC debutantes.</p><p>How&#39;s BuzzFeed doing these days? Revenue rose 31% through the first half of this year, only to decelerate to 20% in the third quarter. It will post its first report as a public company on Tuesday, and momentum is slipping.</p><p>BuzzFeed was already stumbling before hitting the market. Revenue rose less than 4% in back-to-back years before this past year&#39;s bounce. However, last year&#39;s recovery has been largely the result of ad revenue, as content revenue has declined through the first nine months of 2021. With year-over-year comparisons likely to be challenging as we&#39;ve seen with ad-based platforms competing against enhanced results during political elections in late 2020, this week&#39;s report could be a dud.</p><p>Ollie&#39;s Bargain Outlet</p><p>There&#39;s a brick-and-mortar chain with a winning streak that is about to end. Ollie&#39;s Bargain Outlet has rattled off at least seven consecutive fiscal years of double-digit sales growth. The run should officially end on Wednesday afternoon, when it delivers its financial results for the fiscal fourth quarter that ended in January.</p><p>It&#39;s easy to like Ollie&#39;s, the 433-store chain with the &#34;good stuff cheap&#34; mantra that gives shoppers more bang for their buck. The problem is that the former market darling is sputtering with supply chain concerns cooling customer interest in the concept. Analysts see a slight decline in year-over-year revenue for the holiday quarter, with earnings per share taking a 32% drop. First of all, as <i>Investor’s Business Daily</i> reported on March 13, despite the “market correction” the “indexes (are) off [their] lows.” The latter development is very positive; it indicates that the worst of the correction — and the year-long decline by growth stocks — may very well be behind us.</p><p>Likely calming the markets are the realization by many investors that the interest rate hikes and the Russian-Ukrainian war probably will not cause the proverbial sky to fall. Interest rates will remain historically low, and high oil prices only caused a U.S. recession once, in 1973 when the cost of petroleum quickly quadrupled.</p><p>Moreover, with the EU having enough natural gas to make it through winter, a lack of Russian natural gas won’t lead to disaster for those countries. And the U.S., the EU and Russia will, in all likelihood, continue to seek to prevent the conflict from widening.</p><p>Also encouragingly, “legendary quant investor Louis Navellier” expects the market to surge in the second half of March,<i>InvestorPlace</i> Contributing Editor Jeff Remsberg recently reported.</p><p>With investors becoming less fearful, there’s a good chance that growth stocks will rebound.</p><p>Among my favorite sectors now are solar energy names,electric vehicle (EV) charging companies, mining companies and biotech firms. I believe that the market is, in general, greatly underestimating the strength of these groups.</p><p>With that in my mind, these seven hot growth stocks definitely have what it takes to triple during the rest of the year:</p><ul><li><b>EVgo</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>EVGO</u></b>)</li><li><b>ChargePoint Holdings</b>(NYSE:<b><u>CHPT</u></b>)</li><li><b>Shoals</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>SHLS</u></b>)</li><li><b>Freeport McMoran</b>(NYSE:<b><u>FCX</u></b>)</li><li><b>Novavax</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>NVAX</u></b>)</li><li><b>Enphase Energy</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>ENPH</u></b>)</li><li><b>Plug Power</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>PLUG</u></b>)</li></ul><p><b>EVgo (EVGO)</b></p><p>From Feb. 24 to March 10, the shares jumped 30%. The rally came after the EV charging company announced that it had made deals to provide fast chargers for some customers of two huge Japanese automakers — <b>Subaru</b> and <b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:<b><u>TM</u></b>).</p><p>On Feb. 1, EVgo and Midwestern retailer Meije announced that the first of five EVgo charging stations had been opened at a Meijer store. EVgo indicated that it would add many more charging stations in partnership with the retailer, which has “more than 240 stores.”</p><p>EVgo reports that it has the “largest public fast charging network for electric vehicles” in the U.S. and is likely to add many more retail and hotel partners down the road. And making EVgo more attractive for automotive, hotel, and retail partners, the company says that it’s the “only public network powered by 100% renewable electricity.”</p><p>Also likely fueling EVgo’s surge was ChargePoint’s stronger-than-expected fourth quarter revenue and full-year sales guidance, which I will describe in some detail in the next section.</p><p><b>ChargePoint Holdings (CHPT)</b></p><p>The EV charging company reported that its sales had soared 90% year-over-year in the fourth quarter to $80.7 million, exceeding analysts’ average outlook by $4.6 million. And for its upcoming fiscal year, ChargePoint predicted that its sales would come in at $450 million – $500 million. The company stated that: “At the midpoint, this (guidance) represents an anticipated increase of 96% as compared to the prior year.” The guidance was also way above analysts’ average estimate of $238 million.</p><p>Reacting to the results and guidance,<b>Oppenheimer’s</b> (NYSE:<b><u>OPY</u></b>) Colin Rusch wrote that, “We believe the company is executing well on port growth and is gaining traction in the EU with the aid of its recent acquisition.” He added that the company “could substantially outpace our revenue estimates through FY26” and kept an “outperform” rating on the name.</p><p>Later this year, the company, along with EVgo, should benefit from the rapid growth of EV sales in the U.S. and Europe. This growth is driven by the release of many new EV models and by the recent jump in gasoline prices. Moreover, CHPT stock and EVGO stock should also get lifts from the Infrastructure Law which includes significant funding for EV chargers.</p><p><b>Shoals (SHLS)</b></p><p>In the wake of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the EU is looking to meaningfully expand its use of solar energy over the next eight years, a Yale publication recently reported. Meanwhile, as I’ve noted in previous articles, China and many U.S. states are also implementing policies that should accelerate solar sector growth. By the end of the year, I expect the U.S. Congress to extend important tax breaks for the solar sector.</p><p>Shoals, which makes solar energy components,recently received the last certification that it needed to sell its products in the EU.</p><p>As of the end of Q4, the company’s backlog jumped almost 100% year-over-year (YOY). Shoals’ “backlog and awarded orders” has reached nearly $300 million.</p><p>For 2022, Shoals expects its sales to soar 40% – 64% and predicted that its earnings, excluding certain items, would jump 40% – 54% to $300 million to $350 million.</p><p>To meet strong demand, Shoals plans to open a new U.S. factory next quarter.</p><p>Since Feb. 24, its shares have jumped more than 40%.</p><p><b>Freeport McMoran (FCX)</b></p><p>The copper producer’s Q4 revenue jumped 37% YOY to $1.1 billion, while its earnings per share (EPS), excluding certain items, was 96 cents. Last quarter, Freeport sold an impressive “1.020 billion pounds of copper,” and its expenses declined.</p><p>On March 4, the price of copper reached a record $4.938 per pound. As I noted in a previous article, “Although Russia mines just 4% of the world’s copper, the price of the metal has surged about 10% since the invasion,” while the huge jump in the demand for electric vehicles and clean energy are also having a positive impact on the demand for copper.</p><p>Additionally,<i>Seeking Alpha</i> reported that just before the invasion, “copper inventories at London Metal Exchange registered warehouses totaled less than 70K metric tons, their lowest level since 2005.”</p><p>A skilled technical analyst, and<i>InvestorPlace</i>columnist Bret Kenwell named FCX stock as one of eight “Uptrend Stocks to Watch.”</p><p>He recently reported, “Analysts expect about 14% revenue growth this year to go alongside almost 23% earnings growth. Despite the growth, shares trade at just under 13 times earnings.”</p><p>Amid the energy transition, continued strong inflation, and global instability. I believe that FCX stock can indeed triple this year. That would put the shares at slightly over double its 2010 high of just over $60.</p><p><b>Novavax (NVAX)</b></p><p>As I pointed out in a recent column on the shares, earlier this month, The<i>Wall Street Journal</i>stated that the company’s vaccine “for the coronavirus ‘is moving toward U.S. authorization.’ The progress came “after the company proved the effectiveness of its manufacturing process to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” I noted.</p><p>As a result of<i>The Journal’s</i>report, I expect the jab to be approved by the end of June.</p><p>Meanwhile, Novavax is distributing its shot in Europe and Australia and obtained an approval for the shot in Canada.</p><p>With vaccination rates still low in many parts of the world,particularly in Africa, the demand for Novavax’s shot around the world will probably be much stronger than the Street expects. With the shares trading at a price-revenue ratio of 1.26, based on the company’s 2022 revenue guidance, its valuation is very attractive.</p><p><b>Enphase Energy (ENPH)</b></p><p>Like Shoals, with the EU poised to greatly expand its solar capacity, ENPH stock has risen meaningfully since the Russian invasion. The EU’s initiative, along with the likely extension of key tax breaks for solar energy in the U.S., is likely to give ENPH stock a big jolt higher later this year.</p><p>Making me more confident that Congress will act on the tax breaks is a letter sent by 89 House Democrats to President Joe Biden. The letter calls on the President to advance the climate provisions that were included in Congressional Democrats’ budget proposal which have since apparently been dropped.</p><p>On Feb. 8, Enphase reported much stronger-than-expected fourth quarter results Its Q4 revenue climbed 56% YOY to $412 million, beating analysts’ average outlook by $13 million. The company’s operating income, excluding certain items, was an impressive $97.7 million.</p><p>Analysts, on average,expect the company’s EPS to jump to $3.06 this year and $3.93 in 2023, versus $2.41 in 2021. If Congress passes extensive tax breaks and incentives for solar energy, Enphase will likely be able to easily eclipse those numbers.</p><p>Meanwhile, research firm <b>Solar Media</b> recently predicted that solar module costs would “remain elevated for the next 18 months at least.” The estimate suggests that strengthening demand for solar energy is at last causing solar component prices to remain elevated, boding very well for Enphase and ENPH stock.</p><p><b>Plug Power (PLUG)</b></p><p>Another company likely to benefit meaningfully this year from the energy transition and the Russian invasion is Plug Power. The company should also get lifts from the high prices of oil and natural gas. And from the implementation of the Infrastructure Law passed last year.</p><p>In past columns, I’ve pointed out that the EU is looking to greatly increase the use of hydrogen within its borders. In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that initiative should meaningfully intensify. And with the Russian sanctions in play, South Korea is also likely to intensify its already ambitious hydrogen goals. Interest rates will remain historically low, and high oil prices only caused a U.S. recession once, in 1973 when the cost of petroleum quickly quadrupled.Moreover, with the EU having enough natural gas to make it through winter, a lack of Russian natural gas won’t lead to disaster for those countries. The rally came after the EV charging company announced that it had made deals to provide fast chargers for some customers of two huge Japanese automakers — Subaru and Toyota(NYSE:TM).On Feb. 1, EVgo and Midwestern retailer Meije announced that the first of five EVgo charging stations had been opened at a Meijer store. EVgo indicated that it would add many more charging stations in partnership with the retailer, which has “more than 240 stores.”EVgo reports that it has the “largest public fast charging network for electric vehicles” in the U.S. and is likely to add many more retail and hotel partners down the road. And making EVgo more attractive for automotive, hotel, and retail partners, the company says that it’s the “only public network powered by 100% renewable electricity.”Also likely fueling EVgo’s surge was ChargePoint’s stronger-than-expected fourth quarter revenue and full-year sales guidance, which I will describe in some detail in the next section.ChargePoint Holdings (CHPT)The EV charging company reported that its sales had soared 90% year-over-year in the fourth quarter to $80.7 million, exceeding analysts’ average outlook by $4.6 million. And for its upcoming fiscal year, ChargePoint predicted that its sales would come in at $450 million – $500 million. The company stated that: “At the midpoint, this (guidance) represents an anticipated increase of 96% as compared to the prior year.” The guidance was also way above analysts’ average estimate of $238 million.Reacting to the results and guidance,Oppenheimer’s (NYSE:OPY) Colin Rusch wrote that, “We believe the company is executing well on port growth and is gaining traction in the EU with the aid of its recent acquisition.” He added that the company “could substantially outpace our revenue estimates through FY26” and kept an “outperform” rating on the name.Later this year, the company, along with EVgo, should benefit from the rapid growth of EV sales in the U.S. and Europe. This growth is driven by the release of many new EV models and by the recent jump in gasoline prices. Moreover, CHPT stock and EVGO stock should also get lifts from the Infrastructure Law which includes significant funding for EV chargers.Shoals (SHLS)In the wake of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the EU is looking to meaningfully expand its use of solar energy over the next eight years, a Yale publication recently reported. Meanwhile, as I’ve noted in previous articles, China and many U.S. states are also implementing policies that should accelerate solar sector growth. By the end of the year, I expect the U.S. Congress to extend important tax breaks for the solar sector.Shoals, which makes solar energy components,recently received the last certification that it needed to sell its products in the EU.As of the end of Q4, the company’s backlog jumped almost 100% year-over-year (YOY). Shoals’ “backlog and awarded orders” has reached nearly $300 million.For 2022, Shoals expects its sales to soar 40% – 64% and predicted that its earnings, excluding certain items, would jump 40% – 54% to $300 million to $350 million.To meet strong demand, Shoals plans to open a new U.S. factory next quarter.Since Feb. 24, its shares have jumped more than 40%.Freeport McMoran (FCX)The copper producer’s Q4 revenue jumped 37% YOY to $1.1 billion, while its earnings per share (EPS), excluding certain items, was 96 cents. Last quarter, Freeport sold an impressive “1.020 billion pounds of copper,” and its expenses declined.On March 4, the price of copper reached a record $4.938 per pound. As I noted in a previous article, “Although Russia mines just 4% of the world’s copper, the price of the metal has surged about 10% since the invasion,” while the huge jump in the demand for electric vehicles and clean energy are also having a positive impact on the demand for copper.Additionally,Seeking Alpha reported that just before the invasion, “copper inventories at London Metal Exchange registered warehouses totaled less than 70K metric tons, their lowest level since 2005.”A skilled technical analyst, andInvestorPlacecolumnist Bret Kenwell named FCX stock as one of eight “Uptrend Stocks to Watch.”He recently reported, “Analysts expect about 14% revenue growth this year to go alongside almost 23% earnings growth. Despite the growth, shares trade at just under 13 times earnings.”Amid the energy transition, continued strong inflation, and global instability. I believe that FCX stock can indeed triple this year. That would put the shares at slightly over double its 2010 high of just over $60.Novavax (NVAX)As I pointed out in a recent column on the shares, earlier this month, TheWall Street Journalstated that the company’s vaccine “for the coronavirus ‘is moving toward U.S. authorization.’ The progress came “after the company proved the effectiveness of its manufacturing process to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” I noted.As a result ofThe Journal’sreport, I expect the jab to be approved by the end of June.Meanwhile, Novavax is distributing its shot in Europe and Australia and obtained an approval for the shot in Canada.With vaccination rates still low in many parts of the world,particularly in Africa, the demand for Novavax’s shot around the world will probably be much stronger than the Street expects. With the shares trading at a price-revenue ratio of 1.26, based on the company’s 2022 revenue guidance, its valuation is very attractive.Enphase Energy (ENPH)Like Shoals, with the EU poised to greatly expand its solar capacity, ENPH stock has risen meaningfully since the Russian invasion. The EU’s initiative, along with the likely extension of key tax breaks for solar energy in the U.S., is likely to give ENPH stock a big jolt higher later this year.Making me more confident that Congress will act on the tax breaks is a letter sent by 89 House Democrats to President Joe Biden. The letter calls on the President to advance the climate provisions that were included in Congressional Democrats’ budget proposal which have since apparently been dropped.On Feb. 8, Enphase reported much stronger-than-expected fourth quarter results Its Q4 revenue climbed 56% YOY to $412 million, beating analysts’ average outlook by $13 million. The company’s operating income, excluding certain items, was an impressive $97.7 million.Analysts, on average,expect the company’s EPS to jump to $3.06 this year and $3.93 in 2023, versus $2.41 in 2021. If Congress passes extensive tax breaks and incentives for solar energy, Enphase will likely be able to easily eclipse those numbers.Meanwhile, research firm Solar Media recently predicted that solar module costs would “remain elevated for the next 18 months at least.” The estimate suggests that strengthening demand for solar energy is at last causing solar component prices to remain elevated, boding very well for Enphase and ENPH stock.Plug Power (PLUG)Another company likely to benefit meaningfully this year from the energy transition and the Russian invasion is Plug Power. The company should also get lifts from the high prices of oil and natural gas. And from the implementation of the Infrastructure Law passed last year.In past columns, I’ve pointed out that the EU is looking to greatly increase the use of hydrogen within its borders. In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that initiative should meaningfully intensify. And with the Russian sanctions in play, South Korea is also likely to intensify its already ambitious hydrogen goals. Since the start of 2022, 60/40 portfolios in the U.S. and Europe are down more than 10% in real terms, the Goldman team wrote in a note released Friday.</p><p>Risks of slower growth plus inflation are being amplified by the ongoing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and are already taking a toll on many investors. The three major U.S. stock indexes are off by 5% to 12% this year, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropping the most. Meanwhile, bonds are also having a rough time — with the 10-year Treasury note putting in its worst year-over-year performance since 2013 as of Thursday, which has pushed its yield above 2.1%. That’s diminished the performance of the 60% allocation to equities and 40% allocation to bonds.</p><p>Signs of stagflation worries are evident in rates markets. The 10-year U.S. breakeven inflation rate, a gauge of inflation expectations, has reached its highest level since the 1990s, according to Goldman Sachs. Meanwhile, inflation-adjusted real yields remain near their lowest levels in decades, reflecting pessimism about economic growth in coming years. And the widely followed spread between 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields is inching its way closer to an inversion, typically a harbinger of recession.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8d9f2a175dd3688f27a4dc2f91b128cc\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"434\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Datastream, Haver Analytics, Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research</span></p><p>“The No. 1 problem with the 60/40 portfolio is that the pace of inflation means real returns on the bond side will be negative,” said John Silvia, founder and chief executive of Dynamic Economic Strategy in Captiva Island, Fla. “And slower economic growth means slower profit growth, which means the stock side of the portfolio gets hit as well.”</p><p>“So the total portfolio performance will probably be disappointing relative to past years, and it could entirely last a full decade,” Silvia said via phone. “The reason is that you’ve had arbitrarily low interest rates for four to five years, and a lot of speculation in the marketplace with people reaching for yield. The demise of the 60/40 portfolio has been a long time coming, and it’s finally here.”</p><p>The lost decade envisioned by Goldman Sachs marks a turnabout from the last cycle, which benefited from what Mueller-Glissmann and colleagues call a “structural ‘Goldilocks’ regime.” That’s when low inflation and real rates boosted valuations and profit growth, despite relatively weak economic growth. Equities and bonds each performed well side-by-side — with real returns on the 60/40 mix coming in at roughly 7% to 8% each year during the last cycle, compared with a 5% long-run average, they said.</p><p>The thinking behind the 60/40 mix in the first place has been the notion that bonds can act as ballast to the riskiness inherent in equities. Private pension plans are one investor category that has continued to cling to the mix and have “rarely deviated from it,” according to Deutsche Bank researchers.</p><p>But lost decades are more common than many think, according to Mueller-Glissmann, Mariotti and Ferrario. They’ve occurred during World War I, World War II and the 1970s — following strong bull markets marked by elevated valuations. And the likelihood of a lost decade rises in the face of stagflation, they said.</p><p>The following chart reflects 1-year and 10-year drawdowns in the 60/40 portfolio through the decades.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a7e753dbfc786ce88d4949a0efd9828b\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"367\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Datastream, Haver Analytics, Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research</span></p><p>A combination of other investments can help reduce the risk of another 60/40 lost decade for investors, the Goldman team said. They include allocations to “real assets” such as commodities, real estate and infrastructure, as well as greater diversification in overseas markets. Investors should also consider value and high-dividend-yielding stocks, as well as convertible bonds, according to Goldman.</p><p>To be sure, not everyone’s on board with the idea of a prolonged period of poor 60/40 returns. Thomas Salopek, a strategist at JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. who warned in January that the 60/40 mix was “in danger,” says he thinks the U.S. will avoid actual stagflation. “We believe,” he said, “there will be no lost decade for the 60/40.”</p><p>“For now, the environment is still high growth and high inflation,” he wrote in an email to MarketWatch on Friday. With yields historically rising during a Fed rate-hike cycle, “there is a healthy stock vs. bond risk premium that can finally be harvested as risk aversion recedes. Since the start of 2022, 60/40 portfolios in the U.S. and Europe are down more than 10% in real terms, the Goldman team wrote in a note released Friday.Risks of slower growth plus inflation are being amplified by the ongoing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and are already taking a toll on many investors. China will provide additional support to the Chinese economy through monetary policy, and the government reaffirmed that it supports foreign IPOs. The report also stated that China supports listings overseas and will work with the SEC to resolve any issues.</p><p>Concerns over increased regulation, possible delisting fears, and other transitory concerns led Alibaba to unprecedented declines over the last year. The stock cratered by about 77% (peak to trough) from its recent highs, illustrating one of the most significant market cap declines. Recent selling became indiscriminate and panic-driven, likely leading to one of the best buying opportunities in Alibaba&#39;s history. The most striking thing is that nothing material changed about Alibaba&#39;s business. The company&#39;s growth slowed a bit more than expected, and it&#39;s going through a transitory margin compression phase. However, this is not something that warrants a 77% decline or anything even close, and Alibaba&#39;s stock remains exceptionally cheap.</p><p><b>Alibaba Back Then And Now</b></p><p>Back then (in 2015), when I first began buying Alibaba, its stock was around $80. In 2015 Alibaba&#39;s revenues were $12.3 billion, and the company recorded approximately $131.6 billion in revenues in its trailing twelve months (&#34;TTM&#34;). Its gross profit was at about $8.4 billion then, and nearly $50 billion in its TTM. I think you get the picture here. Revenues and many profitability metrics have surged in the past six years, yet Alibaba&#39;s stock price was back at its post-IPO lows in recent days. I&#39;ve written many articles on Alibaba, I own the stock, and I continue to argue that Alibaba&#39;s stock price is unjustly low and has a strong probability of moving significantly higher in future years.</p><p><b>Alibaba&#39;s Stock Is Remarkably Cheap</b></p><p>How cheap is Alibaba, even after its unprecedented 40% move higher? Consensus EPS estimates are for approximately $10 in 2023, illustrating that at $100, the stock is only trading at ten times forward EPS estimates. If we look at Alibaba&#39;s revenue projections, we see that the company should still grow revenues by 10-15% in the coming years. Moreover, Alibaba has the potential to become more profitable in future years, suggesting that its EPS projections may be muted and lowballed. The company&#39;s growth dynamic, profitability potential, and low valuation illustrate that its stock remains exceptionally cheap and has a high probability of appreciating substantially in future years.</p><p><b>The Bottom Line: Not Selling A Single Share</b></p><p>I&#39;m not selling a single Alibaba share here. As I&#39;ve written many times, Alibaba and Chinese stocks, in general, went through a transitory phase where overly negative news flow put enormous pressure on stock prices. Customer retention continue to improve. And customers are buying more, with items per buyer jumping 17%.</p><p>Despite its tremendous growth, MercadoLibre is only scratching the surface of its opportunity. The e-commerce penetration rate in Latin America is currently around 10% but is projected to soar to 16% by 2025. Many people in Latin America still have challenges accessing financial services, presenting a big growth market for MercadoLibre&#39;s fintech products.</p><h2>2. MongoDB</h2><p><b>MongoDB</b> ( MDB -1.91% ) has some momentum already, with its shares popping recently as Wall Street analysts have become more bullish about the company&#39;s prospects. I think this momentum is likely to continue.</p><p>For one thing, MongoDB&#39;s shares are still down more than 30% below the peak in October. If the overall environment improves for tech stocks, MongoDB could easily be one of the leaders.</p><p>Like MercadoLibre, MongoDB reported excellent Q4 results. Revenue jumped 56% year over year. The company has recently secured label extensions for cystic fibrosis (CF) drug Kaftrio in Europe for treating younger children. It has also picked up additional reimbursement deals for the drug in Spain and the Netherlands.</p><p>Vertex has other potential catalysts on the way outside of CF. The company and its partner, <b>CRISPR Therapeutics</b>, expect to report results from late-stage clinical studies evaluating gene-editing therapy CTX001 in treating transfusion-dependent thalassemia and severe sickle cell disease this year. Apple is a quintessential buy-and-hold stock.</p><p>Apple&#39;s fiscal 2021 was terrific, and the first quarter of fiscal 2022 saw a quarterly record high for revenue. Fiscal 2021 sales reached $366 billion, an increase of 33%. But while sales were impressive, Apple&#39;s secret sauce is actually in the cash flow.</p><p>The company has been able to return bushels of money to shareholders in the form of dividends and stock repurchases. As shown below, Apple&#39;s operating margin reached 30% in fiscal 2021, and it exceeded 33% in the first quarter of fiscal 2022. Cash from operations (CFO) blew past $100 billion in fiscal 2021, and if the second quarter of fiscal 2022 is any indication, CFO will increase handily again this fiscal year.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1a5b58698b4067779e539d610ccf561d\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"257\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Data source: Apple. Its dividend yield is currently just over 0.5%, but the payout has grown for the last nine years and the cash flow trends suggest this will continue. By buying and holding, the investor&#39;s effective yield will rise with the dividend.</p><p>The biggest return of capital to shareholders is in the form of stock buybacks. These benefit shareholders by reducing the shares outstanding, giving each shareholder a bigger slice of the pie. And, unlike with dividends, the shareholder is not on the hook for taxes at the end of the year. In fiscal 2021 alone, Apple returned over $85 billion, nearly 3% of the current market cap, to shareholders this way; $484.5 billion has been returned through share buybacks since fiscal 2012.</p><p>Apple&#39;s increased cash flow, growing dividend, and massive share repurchases provide tremendous value to long-term shareholders. Buying and holding Apple is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> strategy for which our future selves will likely thank us.</p><h2><b>2. Lockheed Martin</b></h2><p><b>Lockheed Martin</b> ( LMT 3.24% ) has been on many investors&#39; radars since the start of hostilities in Ukraine. The war has galvanized NATO countries and it is likely that increased defense spending is on the table for many. For example, Germany has announced that it will increase defense spending to over 2% of its GDP.</p><p>This includes the purchase of 35 F-35 fighter jets made by Lockheed Martin. We can expect that defense spending will be robust across NATO nations for some time as a result of the tragic action in Ukraine. It is the largest defense contractor for the U.S. military and its top customer has deep pockets.</p><p>Lockheed Martin was in an enviable position for dividend-growth investors even before recent events. The dividend has been growing for 20 straight years, going from $0.11 per share per quarter in 2002 to $2.80 per share quarterly now (see chart below).</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/74ef54c9413b16d5b77109bba93f4fad\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"433\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>LMT dividend. Had investors bought Lockheed Martin stock 10 years ago, when it was trading for $89 per share, they would be enjoying total annual return exceeding 12% -- and growing each year. Not to mention sitting on a pile of capital gains. The current dividend yield isn&#39;t too shabby, either, at 2.63%. The macro conditions and the company&#39;s growing cash flow from operations indicate that these dividend increases are likely to continue for the foreseeable future.</p><h2>3. Target</h2><p>For those who are looking for one of the most consistent dividend performers of all time, <b>Target</b> ( TGT -1.35% ) might be the answer. Management has increased its annual dividend for 50 consecutive years. The company is currently paying $0.90 per share per quarter for a yield of over 1.5%.
