At first, those were going to be largely Model 3 sedans, Tesla's cheapest electric car (if still not exactly cheap at $47,000). SoFi didn't even participate in yesterday's big rally of tech stocks that have been bruised lately. However, the firm submitted an impressive earnings outlook for FY 2022 in March and the recently completed acquisition of Technisys improves the firm's growth prospects in the fintech industry considerably!

SoFi has crashed for no reason

Shares of SoFi Technologies cratered to a new low this week although the personal finance company submitted better than expected results for the last quarter and gave a strong earnings outlook for FY 2022 just weeks ago. According to SoFi's earnings outlook, the firm expects to sextuple its adjusted EBITDA to $180M this year. Additionally, SoFi sees material improvements in platform profitability going forward and projects that its adjusted EBITDA margin will go from 3% in FY 2021 to 11% in FY 2022.

The upbeat earnings outlook caused shares of SoFi to spike after submission of the fourth-quarter earnings card. However, shares quickly dropped again, due to an accelerating sell-off in the tech sector. Yesterday, SoFi dropped to a new 1-year low of $7.74. I believe the drop is completely unwarranted and presents a buying opportunity.

SoFi's member base will keep growing

Although member and topline growth rates are moderating, post-pandemic, the firm is still set to add hundreds of thousands of new members to its SoFi and Galileo platforms in FY 2022 and in the following years. In the fourth-quarter, SoFi added 523 thousand new members to its platform, bringing the member total to 3.5M. I believe the bank charter that SoFi recently got awarded will draw more customers to the fintech as it allows the company to offer better interest rates and more protection relative to non-regulated fintechs. Fears over a post-pandemic slump in member growth may also be exaggerated since SoFi's account base still grew at 87% year over year in the fourth-quarter.

SoFi

Roll-out of new financial services products are key to SoFi's growth

The earnings outlook for FY 2022 is supported by one specific factor that is driving growth in the SoFi ecosystem: The roll-out of new financial services products. Financial services products, as opposed to pure lending products (loans), offer a huge opportunity for market penetration and expansion for SoFi. In the fourth-quarter, financial services products outnumbered lending products by a factor of 3.8 X. Just two years ago, that factor was 0.5 X. What this means is that SoFi's explosive member growth in the last two years especially has been supported chiefly by financial services products like investing services, money management products, insurances and credit cards. SoFi had more than 5M total products available on its platform in the last quarter and the firm is set to add even more products in FY 2022. The denser the product lineup, the more customers can be drawn into the SoFi ecosystem.

SoFi

Technisys acquisition is set to drive platform profitability as well as topline growth

The third reason why I believe SoFi should be bought on this undeserved drop relates to the firm's recently completed acquisition of Technisys.

Technisys is a digital multi-product core banking platform that will be vertically integrated with Galileo, SoFi's fintech and enterprise business. The acquisition cost SoFi about $1.1B but is said to lead to both revenue and cost synergies. The integration of Technisys' end-to-end technology stack is going to make it easier for SoFi to innovate and roll out new (financial services) products to its members. Regarding revenue synergies, the acquisition is set to add $500M to $800M in revenues over the next four financial years. Regarding cost synergies, the vertically integrated technology stack is expected to result in $75M to $85M in total cost savings from FY 2023 to FY 2025. SoFi is looking at $60 to $70M annual cost savings thereafter.

SoFi's price reflects strong value for growth investors

The growth sector has become cheap again and SoFi is one investment that has a good chance of growing at fantastic rates in the foreseeable future. I expect SoFi to grow its member base to 10M by FY 2026, up from 3.5M today.

Because of the undeservedly steep drop in pricing that shares of SoFi went through in the last few months, SoFi's platform growth is cheap, especially when considering the recently completed Technisys acquisition that is adding to topline growth. Based off of $2.1B in revenues in FY 2023, shares of SoFi have a market-capitalization-to-sales ratio of 5 X. SoFi's P-S ratio has been four times that last year and prospects for growth are as bright as ever.

Seeking Alpha

Risks with SoFi

The period of pandemic-fueled hyper-growth rates for SoFi and other fintechs is likely over. SoFi is still going to grow quickly after the pandemic and on-board large numbers of new customers to its platform, but the digital personal finance firm is not going to grow at the same rates that have materialized during the pandemic (100% or more). For that reason, slowing revenue growth and delayed platform profitability are serious risks for SoFi. SoFi didn't even participate in yesterday's big rally of tech stocks that have been bruised lately. However, the firm submitted an impressive earnings outlook for FY 2022 in March and the recently completed acquisition of Technisys improves the firm's growth prospects in the fintech industry considerably!SoFi has crashed for no reasonShares of SoFi Technologies cratered to a new low this week although the personal finance company submitted better than expected results for the last quarter and gave a strong earnings outlook for FY 2022 just weeks ago. According to SoFi's earnings outlook, the firm expects to sextuple its adjusted EBITDA to $180M this year. Additionally, SoFi sees material improvements in platform profitability going forward and projects that its adjusted EBITDA margin will go from 3% in FY 2021 to 11% in FY 2022.The upbeat earnings outlook caused shares of SoFi to spike after submission of the fourth-quarter earnings card. However, shares quickly dropped again, due to an accelerating sell-off in the tech sector. Yesterday, SoFi dropped to a new 1-year low of $7.74. I believe the drop is completely unwarranted and presents a buying opportunity.SoFi's member base will keep growingAlthough member and topline growth rates are moderating, post-pandemic, the firm is still set to add hundreds of thousands of new members to its SoFi and Galileo platforms in FY 2022 and in the following years. Fears over a post-pandemic slump in member growth may also be exaggerated since SoFi's account base still grew at 87% year over year in the fourth-quarter.SoFiRoll-out of new financial services products are key to SoFi's growthThe earnings outlook for FY 2022 is supported by one specific factor that is driving growth in the SoFi ecosystem: The roll-out of new financial services products. The denser the product lineup, the more customers can be drawn into the SoFi ecosystem.SoFiTechnisys acquisition is set to drive platform profitability as well as topline growthThe third reason why I believe SoFi should be bought on this undeserved drop relates to the firm's recently completed acquisition of Technisys.Technisys is a digital multi-product core banking platform that will be vertically integrated with Galileo, SoFi's fintech and enterprise business. SoFi is looking at $60 to $70M annual cost savings thereafter.SoFi's price reflects strong value for growth investorsThe growth sector has become cheap again and SoFi is one investment that has a good chance of growing at fantastic rates in the foreseeable future. I expect SoFi to grow its member base to 10M by FY 2026, up from 3.5M today.Because of the undeservedly steep drop in pricing that shares of SoFi went through in the last few months, SoFi's platform growth is cheap, especially when considering the recently completed Technisys acquisition that is adding to topline growth. Based off of $2.1B in revenues in FY 2023, shares of SoFi have a market-capitalization-to-sales ratio of 5 X. SoFi's P-S ratio has been four times that last year and prospects for growth are as bright as ever.Seeking AlphaRisks with SoFiThe period of pandemic-fueled hyper-growth rates for SoFi and other fintechs is likely over. What is also a risk is that the company so far failed to establish a moat around its business and fintechs chiefly compete on margins, but the bank charter may be a way out for SoFi. Other fintechs with better financial services products, lower prices, more efficient AI or better customer service pose long-term threats to SoFi's business model as well.Final thoughtsSoFi will continue to roll out new financial services products that improve the density of its product and service offering and draw more customers into the ecosystem. The Technisys acquisition is set to support long-term growth, allows SoFi to operate a competitive fintech platform and leads to synergies.
