think of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) it's safe to say the word "sports" doesn't necessarily come to mind.

Given Apple's a tech company, that would make sense but also given Apple's penchant for innovation, it also shouldn't be a real shock either.

This week, Apple made another big deal for its streaming platform and at the same time stands ready to do what it does best … drag others into the future whether they are ready or not.

First, as always, some background.

We know in streaming that content is king, and the latest arms race to secure that content is coming from the world of sports. A number of the streamers have already dived into this space, and it is expected to remain a lucrative field for some time to come.

Apple is no exception. While it entered the fray late, in typical Apple fashion it made its presence felt.

A few months ago, it signed a deal with MLB for a new Friday Night baseball double-header packages that brought games exclusively to Apple TV+. It was presumed to be the first step in a larger play, and this week those presumptions were proven correct.

Apple has swooped in and signed the rights to Major League Soccer (MLS) in a new 10-year deal slated to kick off early next year. The package includes ALL the MLS games and promises to be a one-stop-shop for soccer fans.

There's a lot to unpack there because it's big news on a variety of levels.

At the basic level, it adds soccer to the Apple TV family of content, which paired with baseball continues to see it expand into a market where consumers have interest. With an Apple TV+ subscription bundled into the deal, it also helps (once-again) juice its subscriber count.

And then there is the larger level, that as usual with Apple, will have far-reaching effects.

The MLS deal is not your typical content play. It is not just about getting the games, it's about getting all the games and building what amounts to a new service specifically designed for Major League Soccer - not unlike what MLB, NHL and NBA have for their games. Keep in mind, this would also be a gated-off premium area in the Apple TV app that will be separate from the other Apple TV+ offerings.

Again innovation.

Getting all the games is no small feat as currently the other major sports, which offer similar all-in-one packages through cable/streaming, have blackout restrictions in place. In other words, you can't watch your home market team anywhere but through whatever channel has the broadcast rights in your area.

This new deal bypasses those blackouts.

It's essentially a roadmap for other leagues to follow and eventually ditch the arcane restrictions that have hampered sports for years. Originally, the rules were put in place to help protect key rights owners, but a lot of things have evolved since that point.

This new model makes for a strong package that if you are a fan of MLS, you'll likely consider buying.

Of course, we don't yet know what the cost will be, but Apple did make a point to mention that select (and meaningful) games would also be available for free to Apple TV+ subscribers, which also makes sense.

In either case, it is very clear Apple believes in the popularity of soccer and is looking to associate itself with it for the foreseeable future.

But the company isn't likely done there, and as one analyst put it, "this may just be an appetizer" for Apple.

It's a sentiment seemingly echoed by Wedbush Securities Managing Director Dan Ives who went a little more in-depth in an interview with Yahoo! saying "there's been a clear DNA change within Apple the last 18 months about live sports content."

Backing up that assumption is the belief that Apple either has made a deal or is close to making a deal with the NFL to take over its Sunday Ticket package of games from DirecTV, also starting in 2023. The package is expected to move to a streamer, and Apple TV would be a natural fit.

If the rumor is true, Sunday Ticket would likely follow this same approach where it would be a pay-walled area separate from Apple TV+ content but have some type of free options.

It would also be a huge win for Apple and further align them to compete in this streaming space. Having three of today's top leagues as partners providing some level of exclusive content and options through your pipeline will continue to help the platform stand out and define itself in a crowded market.

As CNBC put it, these types of deals"show how strong businesses can grow even in tough times."

Apple's streaming path has long been a mystery that has baffled the industry and its experts. Many have summarized it was everything from a costly flop to a loss leader, when in reality it's always been a value-added play.

Part of that success is because it's open to changes and is trying to be as nimble as possible to keep up with the pack. It is seeing what the market is doing - or in some cases not doing - and pivoting accordingly. For now, that along with a quality over quantity approach seems to be working…even if it just fully decided to fully lean into that direction the other year.

Sports was an area that was always on the peripherals of the company's tentacles but never one many assumed it would splurge to get involved with in a major capacity. Even the MLB deal didn't give clear guidance as it was a very "Apple" deal that dipped its toe in the waters at a modest price … after all it was just two games a week.

This MLS deal is on the opposite end of the spectrum - Apple didn't just test the waters here, it bought the pool!

While not confirmed, many are reporting this was a $2.5 billion deal which is a very un-Apple like move. It is known for not spending big, instead, it just finds workarounds when the price tag gets too high or it finds new ways to make the numbers work in their favor.

This is Apple buying in fully to the concept.

And that should worry others in the space.

Remember when Apple decided to do away with the headphone jack and consumers basically had to go along with it if they wanted an iPhone. The investment — valued at $4.2 billion — gives Berkshire Hathaway a roughly 11.4% stake in HP.

"Berkshire Hathaway is one of the world’s most respected investors and we welcome them as an investor in HP Inc," an HP spokesperson said.

Buffett's investment makes sense for several reasons.

First, HP has been humming right along under CEO Enrique Lores as his operational turnaround continues to bear fruit.

The company squashed analyst profit forecasts for its first fiscal quarter (reported in late February), powered by strong sales of commercial computers and printers. HP said commercial computer and printer sales rose 26% and 9%, respectively, from the prior year.

The strength in commercial computers and printers offset a more muted performance for consumer products. HP said consumer PC sales fell 1%, while consumer printing sales dropped 23%.

Operating profit margins expanded 70 basis points in HP's personal systems segment, but declined 160 basis points in the printing business.

HP — a prolific purchaser of its own stock under Lores — repurchased another $1.8 billion of its stock in the quarter.

The company offered up an upbeat outlook despite ongoing supply-chain constraints and a slowing PC market.

For the second fiscal quarter, HP sees EPS in a range of $1.02 to $1.08. Analysts had estimated $1.02 a share. The company lifted its full year EPS outlook to $4.18 to $4.38 a share from $4.07 to $4.27 previously. Wall Street was modeling for $4.17 a share.

While HP has rolled right along during the pandemic — in part also fueled by aggressive cost management that has bolstered profits — Lores has begun to put his stamp on the company's future through acquisitions.

The company said in late March it would buy workplace collaboration solutions provider Poly for $3.3 billion. The investment — valued at $4.2 billion — gives Berkshire Hathaway a roughly 11.4% stake in HP.\"Berkshire Hathaway is one of the world’s most respected investors and we welcome them as an investor in HP Inc,\" an HP spokesperson said.Buffett's investment makes sense for several reasons.First, HP has been humming right along under CEO Enrique Lores as his operational turnaround continues to bear fruit. HP said consumer PC sales fell 1%, while consumer printing sales dropped 23%.Operating profit margins expanded 70 basis points in HP's personal systems segment, but declined 160 basis points in the printing business.HP — a prolific purchaser of its own stock under Lores — repurchased another $1.8 billion of its stock in the quarter. That comes on the heels of a 2021 acquisition of gaming peripheral maker HyperX for $425 million.Despite all of these efforts, an argument could be made that HP's stock hasn't been properly valued by investors — hence Buffett enters smelling a dislocation.HP shares only trade on a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 8.5 times. We also discussed in our previous article and shared with readers why the stock could be bottoming (Buy rating). PLTR stock has outperformed the S&P 500 Pacer Swan SOS Fund of Funds ETF|ETF (SPY) since our article was published (+25% Vs. +4.3%).

Therefore, we think the stock is no longer significantly undervalued due to the remarkable recovery. Investors should note that the average PTs have often been strong resistance levels previously. Nevertheless, there's still an implied upside of more than 50% to its average PTs. In addition, we also observed that PLTR stock has also moved convincingly away from its most conservative PTs.

Therefore, despite its recent recovery, the Street has not been in a hurry to re-rate PLTR stock.

Furthermore, PLTR stock's NTM revenue multiple has recovered from its all-time lows to 12.4x. As a result, it's also broadly in line with its high-growth SaaS peers (12.6x) that we track.

Hence, considering the above factors, we think PLTR stock looks fairly valued now.

Where is Palantir Heading in 2022?

We consider PLTR as a speculative stock. Therefore, we would usually not encourage investors to add at a fair valuation. Even though CEO Alex Karp has committed to GAAP profitability moving forward, Palantir still has much to convince. But, the commitment towards GAAP profitability is critical to assuaging investors of Palantir's incremental operating leverage moving forward.

Furthermore, COO Shyam Sankar emphasized that he expects its adjusted operating margins to remain relatively stable in a recent conference. Therefore, we consider it a crucial factor in modeling Palantir's valuation accurately. The Street also highlighted the criticality of projecting relatively stable margins. Morgan Stanley (MS) emphasized (edited):

We are wondering about the company's long-term operating margin. We saw 'wild swings'-from 17% in 2020, to 31% in 2021, and a projecting 27% for 2022. Confidence in the steady-state margin profile is key to understanding EPS growth longer-term. - Barron's

In addition, we were also concerned about Palantir's government segment growth deceleration. Its commercial segment has certainly accelerated remarkably, but its adjusted profitability has also taken a marked impact.

The company has continued to modularize Foundry for easier adoption by its commercial customers. For example, Sankar accentuated that Palantir has adopted consumption-based pricing for Foundry. We applaud Palantir's approach, as we think it's the correct move, given Snowflake's (SNOW) success. In a recent Snowflake article, we discussed that CIOs highly favor the consumption-based pricing model. Such an approach has allowed Snowflake's customers to move workloads and test Snowflake's data cloud suitability without significant upfront commitments. Nonetheless, it could also lead to considerable volatility in revenue and profitability. In addition, consumption ramp also takes considerable time, and new logo wins are unlikely to be reflected in the P&L in the near term.

Nonetheless, it's the right move for Palantir going forward. We think investors need to accord Karp & Team sufficient time to encourage wider adoption of its Foundry OS.

Notably, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has dramatically lifted our expectations over its government segment's growth. Palantir had experienced weakness in growth momentum in Europe.

But the stakes in Europe have changed dramatically since the Russian invasion started a month ago. Germany has raised its defense spending dramatically from 1.53% to 2%. Furthermore, Palantir's Gotham platform has been utilized by Western intelligence in the conflict. Therefore, the geopolitical stakes have risen significantly, and we believe the momentum will carry on.

And, there probably isn't another defense contractor whose platform is on par with Palantir, given its success with the US government. Hence, we believe that Palantir is in an enviable position to leverage the increased defense spending. Sankar emphasized (edited):

The work that we've done with MetaConstellation, is being used by multiple Western allied services to really observe from an intelligence domain.

They are focusing on how can they can use this in a real-time decision-making sort of basis. Europe is not the same place it was 2 years ago.

You see that with the Germans committing EUR 100 billion to modernizing their force because they realized the threats are real. So, I think that's also going to create a lot of market access. Not just because they need it, but they also are going to need it in the context of collaborating with Allied Forces. (Morgan Stanley TMT Conference 2022)

As if the emphasis by Sankar wasn't sufficient, CEO Alex Karp followed up with an assertive letter, imploring European leaders to "step up and fight this battle alongside us in order to win." Karp emphasized (edited):

The fantasy of an instinctively peaceful world may be comforting. But it is again coming to an end.

Europe has for the past two decades stood on the sidelines of the digital revolution, whose principal participants are still essentially all based in the United States.

The unrelenting innovation and disruption from American firms has reshaped industries and extinguished others. The need for Europe to become a leader in disruptive defense technology is clear.

An embrace of the relationship between technology and the state, between disruptive companies that seek to dislodge the grip of entrenched contractors and the federal government ministries with funding, will be required for Europe and its allies to remain strong enough to defeat the threat of foreign occupation. (Letter from Palantir CEO)

Therefore, Palantir is wasting no time pushing European governments that they need to move now. These leaders need to adopt Palantir's platform to integrate their intelligence, surveillance, and sensors with the US government.

Hence, we believe it could even elevate Palantir's commercial branding in Europe from the potential increased momentum in government spending. Therefore, the events unfolding in Europe could be a significant tailwind for Palantir moving forward.

Is PLTR Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?

We discussed that PLTR stock seems fairly valued now. But, long-term speculative investors can still add exposure given these potential tailwinds.

Nevertheless, its stock could still be volatile in the near term, so investors are encouraged to add in phases. But, we think the stage has been set for Palantir to advance further in Europe.

Consequently, we could experience an upward inflection in government spending moving forward. Nevertheless, such momentum may not be reflected in the short term, so investors need to temper their expectations accordingly.

As such, we reiterate our Buy rating on PLTR stock.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Palantir: No Longer Significantly Undervalued, But Still A Buy
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nPalantir: No Longer Significantly Undervalued, But Still A Buy\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-03-26 08:15 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Drew Angerer/Getty Images NewsInvestment ThesisPalantir Technologies Inc. (Letter from Palantir CEO)Therefore, Palantir is wasting no time pushing European governments that they need to move now. These leaders need to adopt Palantir's platform to integrate their intelligence, surveillance, and sensors with the US government.Hence, we believe it could even elevate Palantir's commercial branding in Europe from the potential increased momentum in government spending. Therefore, the events unfolding in Europe could be a significant tailwind for Palantir moving forward. Is PLTR Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?We discussed that PLTR stock seems fairly valued now. But, long-term speculative investors can still add exposure given these potential tailwinds.Nevertheless, its stock could still be volatile in the near term, so investors are encouraged to add in phases. But, we think the stage has been set for Palantir to advance further in Europe.Consequently, we could experience an upward inflection in government spending moving forward. Nevertheless, such momentum may not be reflected in the short term, so investors need to temper their expectations accordingly. As such, we reiterate our Buy rating on PLTR stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":94,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9032684510,"gmtCreate":1647355074458,"gmtModify":1676534219974,"author":{"id":"4109734812445390","authorId":"4109734812445390","name":"Teruteru87","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4109734812445390","idStr":"4109734812445390"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"We still see sales of iPhone, iPad and Mac Pro, even during these volatile period. Its products include the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Beats products, HomePod and AirPods. The company was founded by Steven Paul Jobs, Ronald Gerald Wayne, and Stephen G. Wozniak on April 1, 1976, and is headquartered in Cupertino, California.I am bullish on AAPL stock. Q1 2022 results were very strong, and profitability remains very high, while the company’s debt is well covered by operating cash flows.Apple Business NewsThe war in Ukraine has forced many companies to withdraw their operations in Russia, or stop their exports of products taking a clear stand against the invasion of Ukraine.Apple has stopped its sales in Russia but has also limited the functionality of some of its services and removed Russian news apps. It has even disabled some functions of Apple Maps in Ukraine to avoid the tracking of Ukrainian military and citizen movements. This move should harm the sales in Russia but there is the latest good news that may severely limit this negative impact.Apple also revealed its latest products, including an affordable iPhone SE with 5G capability, a new desktop flagship computer, and a new iPad Air with M1 chip. The technology company seems to have found a way to address supply chain constraints and the ongoing global chip shortage very effectively, as this has been reflected in the latest stellar earnings report.Q1 2022 EarningsAPPL stock earnings have been getting stronger as of Q4 2020 and have a remarkable track record of beating estimates. In Q1 2022, GAAP EPS of $2.10 was a beat by $0.21, and revenue of $123.95 billion was a beat by $5.41 billion. This was an all-time revenue record up 11% year-over-year.Diluted EPS increased 25% year-over-year from $1.68 in Q1 2021 and all categories showed a year-over-year increase except for iPad sales.Net income grew to $34.63 billion an increase of nearly 20.5% compared to net income of $28.8 billion in the same quarter a year ago.Fundamentals – RisksThe main concern for Apple is its high level of debt. As per the latest quarter, it has a D/E ratio of 1.48.Other than that profitability is very strong, as gross margin, operating margin, and net margin have all expanded on a TTM basis. There is also a very strong and consistent positive free cash flow trend, as in 2021 Apple generated $92.95 billion of free cash flow; an increase of 26.7% compared to 2020.Long-term growth is also consistent and positive for the tech giant, as the 10-year average growth for revenue and net income is 12.95% and 13.83%, respectively.Apple returned nearly $27 billion to shareholders during the latest quarter.ValuationAAPL is relatively overvalued based on its P/E Ratio (25.7x) compared to the U.S. Tech industry average (13.9x) and based on its PEG Ratio (6.6x).The expected 3–5-year EPS growth of 12.5% is very positive for such a large and mature technology company.Wall Street’s TakeApple has a Strong Buy consensus based on 23 Buys and five Holds. The average Apple price target of $193.36 represents 28.3% upside potential.ConclusionApple has recently announced a series of new products that should continue to have a positive impact on its revenue growth. Profitability is excellent, the return of cash to shareholders is supportive and growth continues to be very strong.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":309,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"9000000000000601","authorId":"9000000000000601","name":"ElvisMarner","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6feca155d0db09a740c96d3ac91f0628","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"9000000000000601","idStr":"9000000000000601"},"content":"Are you still optimistic about the development of the technology industry this year?","text":"Are you still optimistic about the development of the technology industry this year?","html":"Are you still optimistic about the development of the technology industry this year?"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9010120239,"gmtCreate":1648295862475,"gmtModify":1676534326044,"author":{"id":"4109734812445390","authorId":"4109734812445390","name":"Teruteru87","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4109734812445390","idStr":"4109734812445390"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"PLTR is still growing, let's let the baby to grow intime😄","listText":"PLTR is still growing, let's let the baby to grow intime😄","text":"PLTR is still growing, let's let the baby to grow intime😄","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9010120239","repostId":"2222598883","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":94,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9012510822,"gmtCreate":1649349423874,"gmtModify":1676534496522,"author":{"id":"4109734812445390","authorId":"4109734812445390","name":"Teruteru87","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4109734812445390","idStr":"4109734812445390"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Long term investment purposes.
