SELL ASAP. Then you have capital to reinvest and More Importantly- TO TRADE. Failing to sell risks your shares to continue to fall further or slide sideways for an indeterminate length of time. The most important rule is to preserve your capital

investors, blue-chip stocks may seem relatively dull. The action tends to be in the growth and penny stocks space. However, it will be a big mistake to ignore the value-creating upside blue-chip stocks provide, when constructing a long-term portfolio.</p>\n<p>If the business story for a growth stock clicks, multi-bagger returns are in the offering. However, it’s not uncommon to see emerging stories fail, leading to massive stock plunges in short order. We’ve seen this play out time and again in recent years, highlighting the stability and steadiness blue-chip stocks create for a portfolio.</p>\n<p>I would personally allocate 50% of my portfolio toward blue-chip stocks. That’s partly due to the multiple headwinds that have proliferated in equity markets since the beginning of 2022. These headwinds have created a situation where some high-quality stocks are now trading at very attractive valuations.</p>\n<p>Exposure to these fundamentally strong blue-chip stocks makes sense, as there is visibility for healthy total returns (capital gains and dividends) over the long-term. Let’s discuss the reasons why these blue-chip stocks are worth considering.</p>\n<table border=\"1\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>NEM</strong></td>\n<td>Newmont</td>\n<td>$48.14</td>\n</tr><tr><td><strong>ALB</strong></td>\n<td>Albermarle</td>\n<td>$208.51</td>\n</tr><tr><td><strong>CVX</strong></td>\n<td>Chevron</td>\n<td>$151.78</td>\n</tr></tbody></table><div>\n<div>\n<div></div>\n<div></div>\n</div>\n</div>\n<h2>Newmont (NEM)</h2>\n<div><img height=\"169\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/nem1600-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\"/><div>Source: Piotr Swat/Shutterstock</div></div>\n<p>As I write this article, gold has surged to $1,930 an ounce. Considering the ongoing concerns in the banking sector, sticky inflation, and the increased possibility of a recession, I expect this bullish momentum to sustain. <strong>Newmont</strong> (NYSE:<strong>NEM</strong>) is a quality gold miner to consider adding, for exposure to the price action of precious metals right now.</p>\n<p>Currently, NEM stock trades at a forward price-earnings ratio of 21.2-times, with a dividend yield of 3.5%. Considering the upside potential with gold prices, I expect healthy dividend growth in 2023 and beyond.</p>\n<p>Newmont Corporation has an investment-grade balance sheet and a quality asset base. With 96 million ounces in reserves, the company expects steady production into the 2040s. Newmont also hopes to lower its all-in-sustaining cost over the next few years. Thus, the company’s free cash flow upside will likely be significant if gold trends higher.</p>\n<p>It’s also worth noting that Newmont closed 2022 with a liquidity buffer of $6.7 billion. Further, the company’s leverage ratio is low, at 0.5. With high financial flexibility, I would not be surprised if the company pursued opportunistic acquisitions to boost production.</p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div></div>\n<div></div>\n</div>\n</div>\n<h2>Albemarle (ALB)</h2>\n<div><img height=\"169\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/alb1600a-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\"/><div>Source: IgorGolovniov/Shutterstock.com</div></div>\n<p><strong>Albemarle</strong> (NYSE:<strong>ALB</strong>) is a massively undervalued blue-chip stock. I expect ALB stock to double in the next 12 months. To put things into perspective, the stock trades at a forward price-earnings ratio of 7.2-times, and is among the top dividend growth stocks to consider.</p>\n<p>The company’s undervaluation is evident, when investors assess Albermarle’s growth trajectory. Last year, Albemarle reported 193% and 444% year-over-year growth in sales and adjusted EBITDA, respectively. The company has guided for sales growth from 55% to 75% for the current year. The company will also likely report operating cash flow of $2.2 billion for the year. With these metrics, the stock deserves better valuations.</p>\n<p>Another point worth mentioning is that Albemarle closed 2022 with a lithium conversion capacity of 200ktpa. The company expects to boost production to 550ktpa (mid-range of guidance) by 2027. With continued upside in capacity, cash flow growth is likely to remain healthy over the long-term.</p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div></div>\n<div></div>\n</div>\n</div>\n<h2>Chevron (CVX)</h2>\n<div><img height=\"169\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/cvx1600-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\"/><div>Source: Jeff Whyte / Shutterstock.com</div></div>\n<p><strong>Chevron</strong> (NYSE:<strong>CVX</strong>) is another name to consider among undervalued blue-chip stocks. At a forward price-earnings ratio of 10-times, the stock is poised for meaningful upside from current levels. Additionally, CVX stock offers a rather juicy dividend yield of 3.9%.</p>\n<p>It’s worth noting that oil has declined on recession concerns. However, CVX stock has held its ground, trading sideways over the last six months. This is an indication of the stock’s undervaluation. Once economic headwinds wane, CVX stock can easily trade above previous highs of $190.</p>\n<p>From a fundamental perspective, Chevron is among the best oil and gas stocks out there. The company has an investment-grade balance sheet, bolstered by operating cash flow of $47.5 billion for 2022.</p>\n<p>With low break-even assets, I think operating cash flow is likely to remain robust, even factoring in the recent decline in oil prices. This will continue to allow Chevron the ability to create value through dividends and share repurchases. Additionally, the company has ample flexibility to make significant capital investments to improve its metrics over time.</p>\n<p><em>On the date of publication, Faisal Humayun did not hold (either directly or indirectly) any positions in the securities mentioned in this article. are three fundamentally-strong blue-chip stocks to buy for high total returns.Newmont Corporation (NEM): Plenty of upside and dividend growth visibility in 2023.Albemarle Corporation (ALB): Undervalued, considering the company’s strong revenue and EBITDA growth.Chevron Corporation (CVX): Positioned to deliver operating cash flows in excess of $30 billion, even with declining oil prices. \n\n\n\n \n\nSource: Shutterstock\n\n\n\nFor young investors, blue-chip stocks may seem relatively dull. The action tends to be in the growth and penny stocks space. However, it will be a big mistake to ignore the value-creating upside blue-chip stocks provide, when constructing a long-term portfolio.\nIf the business story for a growth stock clicks, multi-bagger returns are in the offering. However, it’s not uncommon to see emerging stories fail, leading to massive stock plunges in short order. We’ve seen this play out time and again in recent years, highlighting the stability and steadiness blue-chip stocks create for a portfolio.\nI would personally allocate 50% of my portfolio toward blue-chip stocks. That’s partly due to the multiple headwinds that have proliferated in equity markets since the beginning of 2022. These headwinds have created a situation where some high-quality stocks are now trading at very attractive valuations.\nExposure to these fundamentally strong blue-chip stocks makes sense, as there is visibility for healthy total returns (capital gains and dividends) over the long-term. Let’s discuss the reasons why these blue-chip stocks are worth considering.\nNEM\nNewmont\n$48.14\nALB\nAlbermarle\n$208.51\nCVX\nChevron\n$151.78\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNewmont (NEM)\nSource: Piotr Swat/Shutterstock\nAs I write this article, gold has surged to $1,930 an ounce. Considering the ongoing concerns in the banking sector, sticky inflation, and the increased possibility of a recession, I expect this bullish momentum to sustain. Newmont (NYSE:NEM) is a quality gold miner to consider adding, for exposure to the price action of precious metals right now.\nCurrently, NEM stock trades at a forward price-earnings ratio of 21.2-times, with a dividend yield of 3.5%. Considering the upside potential with gold prices, I expect healthy dividend growth in 2023 and beyond.\nNewmont Corporation has an investment-grade balance sheet and a quality asset base. With 96 million ounces in reserves, the company expects steady production into the 2040s. Newmont also hopes to lower its all-in-sustaining cost over the next few years. Thus, the company’s free cash flow upside will likely be significant if gold trends higher.\nIt’s also worth noting that Newmont closed 2022 with a liquidity buffer of $6.7 billion. Further, the company’s leverage ratio is low, at 0.5. With high financial flexibility, I would not be surprised if the company pursued opportunistic acquisitions to boost production.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlbemarle (ALB)\nSource: IgorGolovniov/Shutterstock.com\nAlbemarle (NYSE:ALB) is a massively undervalued blue-chip stock. I expect ALB stock to double in the next 12 months. To put things into perspective, the stock trades at a forward price-earnings ratio of 7.2-times, and is among the top dividend growth stocks to consider.\nThe company’s undervaluation is evident, when investors assess Albermarle’s growth trajectory. Last year, Albemarle reported 193% and 444% year-over-year growth in sales and adjusted EBITDA, respectively. The company has guided for sales growth from 55% to 75% for the current year. The company will also likely report operating cash flow of $2.2 billion for the year. With these metrics, the stock deserves better valuations.\nAnother point worth mentioning is that Albemarle closed 2022 with a lithium conversion capacity of 200ktpa. The company expects to boost production to 550ktpa (mid-range of guidance) by 2027. With continued upside in capacity, cash flow growth is likely to remain healthy over the long-term.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChevron (CVX)\nSource: Jeff Whyte / Shutterstock.com\nChevron (NYSE:CVX) is another name to consider among undervalued blue-chip stocks. At a forward price-earnings ratio of 10-times, the stock is poised for meaningful upside from current levels. Additionally, CVX stock offers a rather juicy dividend yield of 3.9%.\nIt’s worth noting that oil has declined on recession concerns. However, CVX stock has held its ground, trading sideways over the last six months. This is an indication of the stock’s undervaluation. Once economic headwinds wane, CVX stock can easily trade above previous highs of $190.\nFrom a fundamental perspective, Chevron is among the best oil and gas stocks out there. The company has an investment-grade balance sheet, bolstered by operating cash flow of $47.5 billion for 2022.\nWith low break-even assets, I think operating cash flow is likely to remain robust, even factoring in the recent decline in oil prices. This will continue to allow Chevron the ability to create value through dividends and share repurchases. Additionally, the company has ample flexibility to make significant capital investments to improve its metrics over time.\nOn the date of publication, Faisal Humayun did not hold (either directly or indirectly) any positions in the securities mentioned in this article. But by the end of last month, the electric vehicle and battery manufacturer was down to just US$123.18 a share. That’s a loss for Tesla stock of just over 65% for the year. </p><p>Ouch.</p><p>Tesla’s 2022 performance was quite a change of pace for a company that has previously given investors mindblowing gains. Tesla was up more than 500% in 2020 and up another 50% or so in 2021. </p><p>So with a selldown of this magnitude, are we looking at the mother of all buy-the-dip opportunities? Or is Tesla just another falling knife right now?</p><p>Well, let’s get into why the Tesla share price had such a rough year. It was undoubtedly partly due to rising interest rates in the US. </p><p>Just like Australia, the United States has seen a very sharp increase in interest rates over the past 12 months, as the US Federal Reserve moves to clamp down on inflation.</p><p>This has been especially painful for most growth companies, not just Tesla. Name any prominent tech stock listed in the US, and chances are it had a rough year in 2022.</p><h2>Has Elon Musk’s Twitter antics damaged the Tesla share price?</h2><p>But not helping Tesla’s cause was its CEO and flagbearer, Elon Musk. Musk has had, well, a very interesting 12 months, to put it lightly. Not only did he buy social media platform Twitter outright, but he has also raised many eyebrows with his new policies championing free speech at the company.</p><p>Many investors have worried that Musk’s preoccupation with Twitter has seen him neglect Tesla, as well as potentially alienate its affluent customer base. This probably explains why the Tesla share price’s most painful months were in the back half of 2022.</p><p>And yet I would argue that Tesla’s brightest days are still in front of it. Despite the issues in its leadership team, the company still posted a 40% increase in vehicle deliveries in 2022 to 1.31 million, with production up 47% to 1.37 million. </p><p>That’s breakneck growth for any company, but it is especially impressive for a capital-intensive vehicle manufacturer like Tesla. </p><p>Tesla is also preparing to launch its much-anticipated ‘cybertruck’ in 2023, which could give its numbers an even bigger boost in years to come. </p><p>Trucks (or utes as we call them here) are a segment of the market that Tesla doesn’t currently address, so this could see its market share expand even further. Ditto with its rollout of the Tesla Semi which is currently underway.</p><p>So all in all, I think that the current Tesla stock price, now trading at its lowest level in almost three years (with a current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 36.9), is a compelling buying opportunity considering the growth runway that remains in front of this company.</p></body></html>","source":"motleyfoolau_stock","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Tesla shares started the year at US$352.26 each. But by the end of last month, the electric vehicle and battery manufacturer was down to just US$123.18 a share. That’s a loss for Tesla stock of just over 65% for the year. Ouch.Tesla’s 2022 performance was quite a change of pace for a company that has previously given investors mindblowing gains. Tesla was up more than 500% in 2020 and up another 50% or so in 2021. So with a selldown of this magnitude, are we looking at the mother of all buy-the-dip opportunities? Or is Tesla just another falling knife right now?Well, let’s get into why the Tesla share price had such a rough year. It was undoubtedly partly due to rising interest rates in the US. Just like Australia, the United States has seen a very sharp increase in interest rates over the past 12 months, as the US Federal Reserve moves to clamp down on inflation. This has been especially painful for most growth companies, not just Tesla. Name any prominent tech stock listed in the US, and chances are it had a rough year in 2022.Has Elon Musk’s Twitter antics damaged the Tesla share price? But not helping Tesla’s cause was its CEO and flagbearer, Elon Musk. Musk has had, well, a very interesting 12 months, to put it lightly. Not only did he buy social media platform Twitter outright, but he has also raised many eyebrows with his new policies championing free speech at the company. Many investors have worried that Musk’s preoccupation with Twitter has seen him neglect Tesla, as well as potentially alienate its affluent customer base. This probably explains why the Tesla share price’s most painful months were in the back half of 2022.And yet I would argue that Tesla’s brightest days are still in front of it. Despite the issues in its leadership team, the company still posted a 40% increase in vehicle deliveries in 2022 to 1.31 million, with production up 47% to 1.37 million. That’s breakneck growth for any company, but it is especially impressive for a capital-intensive vehicle manufacturer like Tesla. Tesla is also preparing to launch its much-anticipated ‘cybertruck’ in 2023, which could give its numbers an even bigger boost in years to come. Trucks (or utes as we call them here) are a segment of the market that Tesla doesn’t currently address, so this could see its market share expand even further. Ditto with its rollout of the Tesla Semi which is currently underway. So all in all, I think that the current Tesla stock price, now trading at its lowest level in almost three years (with a current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 36.9), is a compelling buying opportunity considering the growth runway that remains in front of this company.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":300,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9912811958,"gmtCreate":1664794400774,"gmtModify":1676537509259,"author":{"id":"4114231222195252","authorId":"4114231222195252","name":"DB Kiwi","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/934bae38dcb9f486e02e61857b01fa59","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4114231222195252","idStr":"4114231222195252"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"SELL ASAP. New findings reveal Secret Service watchdog suppressed memo on January 6 texts erasureAccording to The Guardian this morning, “Top career officials at the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) office of the inspector general (OIG) tried to alert Congress in April that Secret Service texts from the time of the January 6 Capitol attack had been erased, but their efforts were nixed by its leadership, documents show.”\n“Secret Service has\nresisted OIG’s oversight activities and continued to significantly delay OIG’s\naccess to records, impeding the progress of OIG’s January 6, 2021 review,” the\nmemo said.\n2. Santos buys gas pipeline to connect to east coast marketSantos’ much-maligned Narrabri gas project is about to be connected to the east coast market after the company purchased a gas pipeline “to inject new supply into NSW,” says Santos’ midstream and clean fuels president Brett Woods.\n“The approved\nunderground pipeline route for the Hunter Gas Pipeline, which still needs\nbuy-in from landholders and local councils, would create a second north-south\nlink by connecting Queensland’s Wallumbilla gas hub near Roma to Newcastle and\nSydney markets. The 820km pipeline project would cost about $1.2 billion, according\nto estimates from 2020,” the AFR reports.\n“Once fully operational, Narrabri has the potential to deliver more than half NSW’s gas demand, creating a more secure, local and affordable supply for businesses, manufacturers and families,” Woods said.\n3. Perrottet contradicts himself with Penrith stadium upgradeThe NSW Government has announced it will plough ahead with the $300 million upgrade proposal for Penrith stadium, home to NRL club the Penrith Panthers and situated in one of the state’s most marginal seats.\nYet this comes after\nstate Premier Dominic Perrottet said his government would not inject funds into\nother sporting precinct developments to prioritise flood relief projects for\nareas affected in northern NSW. \nAnd it was only last\nweekend when part of a grandstand at Leichardt Oval collapsed at a rugby union\nmatch where a group of spectators suffered injuries including concussion,\nbruises and broken bones.\n“The Labor\nopposition has called on the government to produce documents to the upper house\nabout why it has dumped [other similar] projects and why it is proceeding with\nthe Penrith project, given other pressing budgetary needs,” The Guardian reports.\n“We will be scrutinising\nthis decision closely. We will be asking questions about what drove it, who\nknew about it and its impact on the local community,” Labor MP John Graham, who\ncalled for the papers, said.\nThe papers in question require “the production of business cases,\ntender documents and contracts, as well as cost-benefit analyses”.\n4. NRL Premiership-winning coach Paul Green dies aged 49Lauded NRL coach Paul Green was found dead in his Brisbane home on Thursday morning, with a post-mortem examination to be conducted.\nWith many accolades both as a coach and player, Green will\nbe remembered most in the NRL community as the man who steered North Queensland\nto their first premiership win in 2015.\nAustralian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys said his thoughts were with Green’s family and friends.\n“I had the pleasure of sitting on the NRL Competition Committee\nand found Paul to be a passionate, smart and witty individual. Our condolences\ngo to his family and to his many friends,” he said.\nGreen played 162 games across five different clubs as a halfback, five-eighth and hooker while also playing seven State of Origins for Queensland. Ditto with its rollout of the Tesla Semi which is currently underway.</p><p>So all in all, I think that the current Tesla stock price, now trading at its lowest level in almost three years (with a current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 36.9), is a compelling buying opportunity considering the growth runway that remains in front of this company.</p></body></html>","source":"motleyfoolau_stock","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; New findings reveal Secret Service watchdog suppressed memo on January 6 texts erasureAccording to The Guardian this morning, “Top career officials at the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) office of the inspector general (OIG) tried to alert Congress in April that Secret Service texts from the time of the January 6 Capitol attack had been erased, but their efforts were nixed by its leadership, documents show.”\n“Secret Service has\nresisted OIG’s oversight activities and continued to significantly delay OIG’s\naccess to records, impeding the progress of OIG’s January 6, 2021 review,” the\nmemo said.\n2.
