Amazon

The first Buffett stock that can be bought without investors losing any sleep is e-commerce leader Amazon. Although Amazon's leading online marketplace is susceptible to weakness during recessions, this top revenue segment isn't the key to the company potentially tripling its operating cash flow over the next four years.

Even though Amazon is estimated to bring in nearly 40% of all U.S. online retail sales in 2022, it's the company's higher-margin ancillary operating segments that are driving its profitability and cash flow. For example, the popularity of Amazon's marketplace has helped the company sign up more than 200 million Prime members worldwide. Amazon is bringing in approximately $35 billion in annual run-rate sales from subscription services, which is allowing it to reinvest in its vast logistics network and other high-growth initiatives.

The other heavy-hitter is cloud infrastructure services segment Amazon Web Services (AWS). According to a recent report from Canalys, AWS brought in an estimated 31% of cloud-service spending during the second quarter. Even though AWS only accounts for a sixth of Amazon's net sales, it's been consistently producing more than half of the company's operating income. With cloud growth still in its early innings and AWS growing into a larger percentage of Amazon's total sales, the company looks cheaper than ever, relative to its future cash flow-generating potential.

Visa

The second Warren Buffett stock investors can buy and never have to consider selling is payment processor Visa. Despite being cyclical, Visa's sustainable competitive advantages make it a no-brainer stock to hold for the long term.

To begin with, Visa accounted for a whopping 54% of U.S. credit card network purchase volume in 2020. The U.S. is the leading market for consumption in the world, and Visa holds a 31-percentage-point lead over its next-closest competitor. To boot, it's the only payment processor that significantly expanded its share of the U.S. processing market following the Great Recession (2007-2009).

To add to the above, the vast majority of global transactions are still being conducted with cash. This should give Visa ample opportunity to organically expand into underbanked markets, such as the Middle East, Africa, and Southeastern Asia, and to make acquisitions to further its reach.

It's also worth noting that Visa doesn't act as a lender. By only focusing on payment processing, Visa doesn't have to worry about possible loan delinquencies, and therefore isn't required to set aside capital to cover potential loan losses. This is a big reason why Visa's profit margin is usually at or above 50%.

The GMC Hummer EV is one of 30 electric vehicles GM is releasing by the end of 2025. Image source: General Motors.

General Motors

A third Warren Buffett stock to buy and never sell is Detroit auto giant General Motors. Though economic weakness and historically high inflation threaten to sap auto sales in the short run, the long-awaited growth catalyst for General Motors has arrived.

The electrification of autos for consumers and enterprise fleets is the multidecade opportunity the auto industry has been waiting for. With most developed countries angling to reduce their carbon footprints, electric vehicles (EVs) are viewed as a sustainable growth story.

General Motors intends to spend $35 billion on EVs, autonomous vehicles, and battery research through the midpoint of the decade. The expectation, according to CEO Mary Barra, is for GM to roll out 30 new EVs by the end of 2025. The company should have two fully devoted battery plants up and running by the end of next year, with over 1 million EVs produced annually in North America in 2025.

What's more, GM has a sizable presence in China, the world's No. 1 auto market. General Motors has sold 2.9 million vehicles in back-to-back years in China, and should have the opportunity to gobble up market share in China's still-nascent EV industry.

Bank of America

The fourth Warren Buffett stock that can be bought hand over fist and never sold is financial juggernaut Bank of America. To keep with the prevailing theme of this list, short-term recessionary concerns should take a back seat to BofA's numerous long-term advantages.

The beauty of bank stocks is that they benefit from the natural expansion of the U.S. economy. The disproportionate amount of time the economy spends expanding, relative to contracting, allows Bank of America to grow its loan portfolio and deposits, which boosts its net-interest income over the long run.

Something else worth noting about Bank of America is that it's the most interest-sensitive money-center bank. With the Federal Reserve aggressively hiking interest rates in order to tame inflation, outstanding variable-rate loans are becoming more profitable for banks and credit unions without them having to lift a proverbial finger. Since the federal funds target rate is coming off an extended period where it was effectively at 0%, the implication is that BofA can expect a sizable uptick in net-interest income in the years ahead.

This is also a company that's done a phenomenal job of encouraging its customers to bank digitally. As of the end of June, 43 million active users were banking online or via mobile, with 48% of all sales being completed digitally. Because digital transactions are considerably cheaper than in-person and phone interactions for banks, this digital push has allowed BofA to consolidate some of its physical branches and reduce its noninterest expenses.

Berkshire Hathaway

The fifth and final Warren Buffett stock you can buy and never sell is (cue ironic music) ...Berkshire Hathaway. Over the past four years, there's no stock Warren Buffett has spent more money buying than his own company.

What makes Berkshire Hathaway such a rock-solid performer is Buffett's affinity for cyclical businesses and his love of dividend stocks.

As I've pointed to throughout this list, cyclical companies benefit from the substantially longer amount of time the U.S. and global economy spend expanding. Instead of trying to guess when these economic downturns will occur, Buffett has packed Berkshire Hathaway's investment portfolio with companies that thrive off the natural growth of U.S. and global gross domestic product over time. Tech stocks, financials (banks, insurers, and payment processors), and energy stocks (oil companies) all benefit immensely from extended bull markets.

Additionally, Berkshire Hathaway is on track to collect approximately $6.07 billion in dividend income over the next 12 months. Income stocks are usually profitable, have navigated their way through prior recessions, and offer an extensive history of outperformance when compared to their non-paying peers.

With Warren Buffett overseeing a 20.1% average annual return for his company's Class A shares over the past 57 years (ended Dec. 31, 2021), investors probably can't go wrong adding Berkshire Hathaway to their own portfolios.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Warren Buffett Stocks to Buy and Never Sell
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Warren Buffett Stocks to Buy and Never Sell\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-09-17 08:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett buys or sells shares of a company, investors wisely pay attention. Income stocks are usually profitable, have navigated their way through prior recessions, and offer an extensive history of outperformance when compared to their non-paying peers. With Warren Buffett overseeing a 20.1% average annual return for his company's Class A shares over the past 57 years (ended Dec. 31, 2021), investors probably can't go wrong adding Berkshire Hathaway to their own portfolios.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":217,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9932704098,"gmtCreate":1662988658714,"gmtModify":1676537176838,"author":{"id":"4114915892104272","authorId":"4114915892104272","name":"Loge","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4114915892104272","idStr":"4114915892104272"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$..","listText":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$..","text":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$..","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9ef221c396b4d2a595af264f7272d94e","width":"1125","height":"2196"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9932704098","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":434,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9932705624,"gmtCreate":1662988550868,"gmtModify":1676537176742,"author":{"id":"4114915892104272","authorId":"4114915892104272","name":"Loge","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4114915892104272","idStr":"4114915892104272"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$.","listText":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$.","text":"$Helius Medical Technologies, Inc.(HSDT)$.","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4aabe57dcf59dfe0d12e5c2b53797159","width":"1125","height":"3660"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9932705624","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":137,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9932705090,"gmtCreate":1662988424610,"gmtModify":1676537176722,"author":{"id":"4114915892104272","authorId":"4114915892104272","name":"Loge","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4114915892104272","idStr":"4114915892104272"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9932705090","repostId":"2266375369","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2266375369","pubTimestamp":1662982032,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2266375369?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-12 19:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Y Combinator Startups Prove SOFI Stock Is Really a Big Deal","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2266375369","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"A fifth of Y Combinator's summer batch is working on improving fintech, putting SoFi (SOFI) in the s","content":"

A fifth of Y Combinator's summer batch is working on improving fintech, putting SoFi (SOFI) in the spotlight.

The tech accelerator's batch includes 11 neobanks.

Shares of SOFI stock are down more than 55% year-to-date, but this bodes well for the company.

Source: Michael Vi / Shutterstock

Shares of SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI) have slumped by more than 55% this year, but itâs clear from technology startup accelerator Y Combinatorâs (YC) summer activity that fintech companies are here to stay. Naturally, this bodes well for battered SOFI stock.

Payments are the most popular sector within these companies, while neobanks come in second. Neobanks, like SoFi, seek to offer improvements over the traditional banking process, offering more services and features than traditional banks. The charter grants SoFi the power to lend at more competitive interest rates and provide a higher annual percentage yield for checking and savings accounts.

SOFI Stock In Focus Following Y Combinator Summer Activity

YCâs summer 2022 batch includes 11 neobanks, while the firmâs winter 22 batch included 18 of these companies. In 2020 and 2021, each batch only included one to two neobanks. Roughly half of the neobanks in the current batch are based in the U.S., while the remaining half are spread across various countries like the United Kingdom, India and Switzerland. India is a hotspot for YC investments, and eight of the 21 startups based in the country with YC backing are involved in fintech.

Meanwhile, fintech funding has accounted for about 21% of all venture deals year-to-date as of Q2. This comes as several public fintech companies, like SoFi and Affirm (NASDAQ:AFRM), have seen their valuations and market capitalizations slashed. While funding for fintech supports SoFiâs potential growth prospects, it also opens the door for increased competition. Still, as a publicly traded company, SoFi has a head start and is able to acquire funding more readily and easily.

On the other hand, Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael Hsu isnât too optimistic about the future of fintech. He explains:

âI worry increasingly about the âunknownsâ and am concerned that the less familiar risks of this digital transition are unlabeled and thus unseen. As we learned from the 2008 financial crisis, risks that are unseen have a tendency to grow and later to be the source of nasty surprises.â

Hsu is concerned the proliferation of fintech could lead to risks relating to information security and consumer protection. Growth stocks have gotten hammered this year.

Not only are growth indexes like the Vanguard Growth Fund and even the Nasdaq down nearly a third from their peaks late last year, but high-growth stocks have been hit especially hard. The good news for investors is that just as growth stocks ran too high during the bull market in 2021, driven by pandemic tailwinds, there's a good argument now that they've fallen too far in this year's sell-off. Fears of a recession and rising high interest rates have crushed growth stocks this year, especially those with little or no profits.

Let's talk about two that look especially well positioned for a recovery.

1. Shopify

Up until November 2021, Shopify was an undisputed market darling. The e-commerce software company had returned more than 6,000% from its 2015 IPO to its peak late last year, but since then, it's been a different story. Shopify is now down 82% from its all-time high last November.

A combination of difficult comparisons with 2021 results, a slowdown in growth as shopping habits shift away from e-commerce, increased competition from Amazon, and fears that the company could be closer to maturity than previously thought all seem to have combined to sink the stock. A stock split earlier this year did little to help the share price.

However, Shopify's prospects look better than the stock crash would indicate. After a boom in 2020 and 2021, revenue increased 16% in the second quarter to $1.3 billion, giving it a compound annual growth rate of 53% over the last three years. Other key top-line metrics grew steadily as well, even though the company was lapping the boom over the last two years, and consumer spending is shifting from e-commerce to areas like travel and restaurants. Shopify has been unprofitable this year as sales growth has not kept pace with a sharp increase in expenses, but the company has demonstrated its ability to turn a profit, including last year, which should give investors confidence in its ability to grow profits over the long term.

With Shopify stock down so sharply, the best reason to buy the stock is that the headwinds facing look to be temporary. E-commerce growth has been sluggish this year as the sector digests the gains of the last two years and as consumer spending has swung to categories they were deprived of during the pandemic. Additionally, market sentiment is out of favor for stocks like Shopify as investors still seem to be preparing for a bear market.

However, those conditions will change, possibly by next year. Growth in platform revenue, or its advertising business, remained solid, up 26% to $673.2 million. Fears of a recession and rising high interest rates have crushed growth stocks this year, especially those with little or no profits.Let's talk about two that look especially well positioned for a recovery.1. ShopifyUp until November 2021, Shopify was an undisputed market darling. The e-commerce software company had returned more than 6,000% from its 2015 IPO to its peak late last year, but since then, it's been a different story. Shopify is now down 82% from its all-time high last November.A combination of difficult comparisons with 2021 results, a slowdown in growth as shopping habits shift away from e-commerce, increased competition from Amazon, and fears that the company could be closer to maturity than previously thought all seem to have combined to sink the stock. E-commerce still has a lot of growth in front of it, and there will be another bull market, meaning Shopify looks like a bargain trading at a price-to-sales ratio of just over 5 based on this year's expected revenue.2. RokuLike Shopify, Roku was a big winner during the pandemic and has fallen sharply since then. The streaming device maker and advertising platform saw its stock plunge 87% since last fall after soaring through much of its history as it had gained roughly 2,000% from its 2017 IPO.Roku stock plunged in its most recent earnings report as the company missed revenue estimates and gave third-quarter guidance that was well below analyst expectations.Sales grew 18% to $764 million as management said it was seeing stiff macroeconomic headwinds, a comment echoed by other digital advertising companies. a price-to-sales ratio of less than 3, setting it up for a strong rebound when the ad market and market sentiment improve.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":93,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9995732094,"gmtCreate":1661515856021,"gmtModify":1676536533230,"author":{"id":"4114915892104272","authorId":"4114915892104272","name":"Loge","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4114915892104272","idStr":"4114915892104272"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Image source: The Motley Fool.
