(NASDAQ:TSLA) has had a very volatile year price-wise, hitting a low below $110 in early January and then exceeding $200 in March. Currently, it sits at about $165.

Seeking Alpha

That 1-year chart above looks a lot like a roller coaster. It shows that indeed TSLA's price is up by more than 40%, but prior to that it had dropped by 60% between last September and January 2023.

While some investors are concerned about Tesla's recent volatility if you look at their record historically you can see this is not unusual. Here's the 3-year chart.

Seeking Alpha

I count 10 times when the TSLA share went up or down by $100 or more in a very short period of time over that 3-year period. So, the answer to why Tesla's price is up more than 40% in this particular cycle starting in early January was mostly CEO Elon Musk's fascination and concentration on Twitter at the expense of Tesla in 2022. Now, whether this was really true or not, this is what the market and investors believed. And a look at the chart from the time Musk bought Twitter in April of 2022 shows a long consistent slide. Looks like a new year, a new upcycle, although obviously there were other reasons other than Musk, but I feel this was the biggest one.

Seeking Alpha

This is further indicated if we compare the S&P 500 (SPY) and the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (QQQ) to the Tesla chart, where a large divergence appears later in 2022.

Seeking Alpha

Is Tesla Overvalued Now?

Based upon the charts above, Tesla is certainly much more reasonably priced today than it was a year ago.

Here's the P/E ratio from March 1, 2022, to now. Note it has dropped by more than 75% and now sits at 47 projected forward into 2023 earnings. That has to be among the lowest ever for Tesla. So, history says no, Tesla is not overpriced currently.

Seeking Alpha

Another way to look at Tesla's value is to look at its historical MV (market value). Note that the current MV is less than half its value 1 year ago and the lowest it has been since November 2020.

Seeking Alpha

Is TSLA Likely To Keep Rising?

As we can easily see from the above charts, Tesla's share price is by definition volatile. But, long term, I have no doubt it will be much higher priced in the future easily passing the $1 trillion MV.

The reason the price should continue its uptrend (but with great volatility) is the nature of the electric vehicle, or EV, business. With massive government support via purchase credits through at least 2035 the revenue will increase by at least 30% a year and the EV volumes could potentially increase by 50% per year.

Targeted electric share of 50% in 2030 requires a step up

The U.S. government aims to ramp up EV sales to 50% of total sales by 2030. This is a step up from the baseline scenario and matches the IEA’s sustainable development scenario. Nevertheless, as mentioned, several car makers are backing the ambition and there is interest among consumers. A combination of regulatory support with a wider range of affordable models could lead to an acceleration in EV sales in the second half of the decade.

Reaching a 50% EV share in car sales by 2030 (8.8m) requires a step up

To give you an idea of how fast sales will have to grow, EV unit sales in 2022 in the U.S. were 5.6%. Getting to 50% in 7 years will require a compound unit growth rate of over 35%. Tesla is planning for this more rapid transition by building factories all over the world along with battery manufacturing in China, and, of course, more chargers everywhere. With arguably some of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced manufacturing processes in the world, Tesla should be a huge winner in the coming years.

What Should Investors Consider?

One of the issues most investors don't consider when looking at Tesla is the potential for future, very valuable, spinoffs. Here's a list of 4 of them.

Tesla's self-driving hardware and software are driving 1 million miles per day now. If Intel can spin off Mobileye certainly Tesla can spin off Auto Pilot.

Megapack has a very bright future and deliveries are expected this year. Not really related to the automobile business why not spin it off?

Tesla Superchargers are already in demand all over the world why not spin it off?

Tesla robotics is currently being used in Tesla's factories. Robotics, of course, are not limited to manufacturing they have other applications such as medical. I think robotics is the most likely spinoff but all of them have potential.

Is Tesla Stock A Buy, A Sell, or A Hold?

Tesla has always been a controversial stock with an extremely controversial leader in Elon Musk. But it has proven over the years to be an outstanding performer not only financially but by market price too. At the current reduced price, Tesla is selling at an extreme discount to its previous lofty values. In addition, the extraordinary political push to build more EVs over the next 10 years should drive Tesla to all-time highs because they are the best in the EV business and probably the most likely to take advantage of the current positive business environment. Therefore, Tesla, Inc. is a Strong Buy for long-term investors.

This article is written by Bill Zettler for reference only. (NASDAQ:TSLA) has had a very volatile year price-wise, hitting a low below $110 in early January and then exceeding $200 in March. Currently, it sits at about $165.Seeking AlphaThat 1-year chart above looks a lot like a roller coaster. It shows that indeed TSLA's price is up by more than 40%, but prior to that it had dropped by 60% between last September and January 2023.While some investors are concerned about Tesla's recent volatility if you look at their record historically you can see this is not unusual. Here's the 3-year chart.Seeking AlphaI count 10 times when the TSLA share went up or down by $100 or more in a very short period of time over that 3-year period. Looks like a new year, a new upcycle, although obviously there were other reasons other than Musk, but I feel this was the biggest one.Seeking AlphaThis is further indicated if we compare the S&P 500 (SPY) and the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (QQQ) to the Tesla chart, where a large divergence appears later in 2022.Seeking AlphaIs Tesla Overvalued Now?Based upon the charts above, Tesla is certainly much more reasonably priced today than it was a year ago. Here's the P/E ratio from March 1, 2022, to now. Note it has dropped by more than 75% and now sits at 47 projected forward into 2023 earnings. That has to be among the lowest ever for Tesla. So, history says no, Tesla is not overpriced currently.Seeking AlphaAnother way to look at Tesla's value is to look at its historical MV (market value). Note that the current MV is less than half its value 1 year ago and the lowest it has been since November 2020.Seeking AlphaIs TSLA Likely To Keep Rising? As we can easily see from the above charts, Tesla's share price is by definition volatile. But, long term, I have no doubt it will be much higher priced in the future easily passing the $1 trillion MV.The reason the price should continue its uptrend (but with great volatility) is the nature of the electric vehicle, or EV, business. With massive government support via purchase credits through at least 2035 the revenue will increase by at least 30% a year and the EV volumes could potentially increase by 50% per year.Targeted electric share of 50% in 2030 requires a step upThe U.S. government aims to ramp up EV sales to 50% of total sales by 2030. This is a step up from the baseline scenario and matches the IEA’s sustainable development scenario. Nevertheless, as mentioned, several car makers are backing the ambition and there is interest among consumers. A combination of regulatory support with a wider range of affordable models could lead to an acceleration in EV sales in the second half of the decade.Reaching a 50% EV share in car sales by 2030 (8.8m) requires a step upTo give you an idea of how fast sales will have to grow, EV unit sales in 2022 in the U.S. Here's a list of 4 of them.Tesla's self-driving hardware and software are driving 1 million miles per day now. If Intel can spin off Mobileye certainly Tesla can spin off Auto Pilot.Megapack has a very bright future and deliveries are expected this year. Not really related to the automobile business why not spin it off?Tesla Superchargers are already in demand all over the world why not spin it off?Tesla robotics is currently being used in Tesla's factories. Robotics, of course, are not limited to manufacturing they have other applications such as medical. I think robotics is the most likely spinoff but all of them have potential. Is Tesla Stock A Buy, A Sell, or A Hold?Tesla has always been a controversial stock with an extremely controversial leader in Elon Musk. EV makers have reduced their capital allocation toward EV production and set a lower target for the first half of 2024. This could be due to the high interest rate environment and lower consumer spending. However, it is temporary, and we will see the demand pick up. If you are enjoying the transition toward EVs, remember there is much more to the industry than Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA). While it is a leader and one of the biggest players in the industry, the competition is growing, and several EV makers have a stronghold on the market. With that in mind, let’s look at the three EV stocks to buy that are better than Tesla.

Li Auto (LI)

At the top of my list of electric vehicle stocks is Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), one of the best EV makers right now. Li Auto is leading the EV race, whether you consider the delivery numbers, financials or product lineup. Trading at $34 today, the stock is up 64% year to date but still trading lower than the 52-week high of $47. It has launched Li Mega, a fully electric EV that will be available in February, and the 10,000 pre-orders already show the enthusiasm surrounding the car.

The company has impressed investors with the delivery numbers—over 40,000 cars in November. It is very close to achieving the final quarter delivery target, and we could see it report even better delivery numbers in 2024. While EV sales are slowing for several companies, Li Auto is picking up pace. At the end of November, its cumulative year-to-date deliveries stood at 325,677, higher than the target of 300,000 for the year.

Its Li-One SUV is one of the best-selling models in China, and aims to launch four new models in 2024. Li Auto’s financials prove that the company is thriving despite rising competition. In the third quarter, it reported a revenue of $4.75 billion, which is a 271% increase year over year, and its net income stood at $385.5 million, up from the net loss it reported in the prior period.

The EV maker has achieved success through its upscale SUVs which are well-priced compared to the premium cars offered by Tesla. It is the product lineup, execution, and pricing that has helped Li Auto grow over the years.

BYD Company (BYDDF)

Next on the list of EV stocks is an obvious pick, BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF), a fierce Tesla competitor. The company is very close to beating Tesla on delivery numbers and is also the world’s second-largest battery maker. A huge advantage that BYD has over Tesla is its global presence. It is already exporting its cars to several countries globally and is steadily expanding its reach. BYDDF stock is exchanging hands for $26, much lower than the 52-week high of $36.

Another thing to remember is that Tesla only manufactures battery-powered EVs, whereas BYD makes BEVs and plug-in hybrid cars, which helps it achieve a larger market share. The company is expected to beat Tesla in delivery numbers in the final quarter of the year.

The company sets itself apart with the price point. It offers top-quality cars at a lower price than that of Tesla, where it benefits the most. As the EV market improves and we see higher demand, we will see BYD Co. thrive. It is at the top of the EV stocks that are better than TSLA.

In the first nine months of the year, we saw the company’s profits increase by 142% year over year to hit over $3 billion, and this is when Tesla’s profits dropped due to cost-cutting measures. It currently has a better profit margin than Tesla. The stock is highly undervalued with a huge potential to double, and if you think Tesla is expensive, this is your chance to own a strong EV stock before the year ends.

XPeng (XPEV)

XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) disappointed investors in the third quarter results, but it expects the next year to be much better. It anticipates deliveries between 59,500 and 63,500 in the year’s final quarter, and it has already delivered 40,043 cars in October and November. It only needs to deliver 19,457 cars to achieve the lower end of its target.

Additionally, the company has revealed a 7-seater multi-purpose vehicle, which has garnered a lot of interest and attention from buyers. Its G6 EV has become the most popular SUV in China, and the launch of another car could benefit the company’s revenue.

While XPeng might find it difficult to compete with some of the industry leaders, it is still going strong. XPEV stock is trading at $15 today and is up 51% year to date. The company is still in growth mode, with much more to come.

XPEV stock was as high as $64 in Nov 2020 and has lost most of its value. Buying the stock at $15 is a good deal, not one that comes along easily. While the stock may not soar exponentially high anytime soon, there is a strong chance of it bouncing back in 2024. It is one of the top EV stocks to buy now.

Many EV makers are eyeing China’s top spot, but it is too soon to declare a winner. XPeng is still in the race and is riding strong, expecting a better 2024.

","source":"investorplace_stock_picks","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It is very close to achieving the final quarter delivery target, and we could see it report even better delivery numbers in 2024. BYD Company (BYDDF)Next on the list of EV stocks is an obvious pick, BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF), a fierce Tesla competitor. The company is very close to beating Tesla on delivery numbers and is also the world’s second-largest battery maker. A huge advantage that BYD has over Tesla is its global presence. It is already exporting its cars to several countries globally and is steadily expanding its reach. BYDDF stock is exchanging hands for $26, much lower than the 52-week high of $36.Another thing to remember is that Tesla only manufactures battery-powered EVs, whereas BYD makes BEVs and plug-in hybrid cars, which helps it achieve a larger market share. The company is expected to beat Tesla in delivery numbers in the final quarter of the year. The company sets itself apart with the price point. It offers top-quality cars at a lower price than that of Tesla, where it benefits the most. As the EV market improves and we see higher demand, we will see BYD Co. thrive. It is at the top of the EV stocks that are better than TSLA.In the first nine months of the year, we saw the company’s profits increase by 142% year over year to hit over $3 billion, and this is when Tesla’s profits dropped due to cost-cutting measures. It currently has a better profit margin than Tesla. The stock is highly undervalued with a huge potential to double, and if you think Tesla is expensive, this is your chance to own a strong EV stock before the year ends. XPeng (XPEV)XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) disappointed investors in the third quarter results, but it expects the next year to be much better. It anticipates deliveries between 59,500 and 63,500 in the year’s final quarter, and it has already delivered 40,043 cars in October and November. It only needs to deliver 19,457 cars to achieve the lower end of its target.Additionally, the company has revealed a 7-seater multi-purpose vehicle, which has garnered a lot of interest and attention from buyers. Its G6 EV has become the most popular SUV in China, and the launch of another car could benefit the company’s revenue. While XPeng might find it difficult to compete with some of the industry leaders, it is still going strong. XPEV stock is trading at $15 today and is up 51% year to date. The company is still in growth mode, with much more to come.XPEV stock was as high as $64 in Nov 2020 and has lost most of its value. XPeng is still in the race and is riding strong, expecting a better 2024.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":64,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":233609366163656,"gmtCreate":1698062470572,"gmtModify":1698062474637,"author":{"id":"4125840782179152","authorId":"4125840782179152","name":"ZawMoe","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Happy] Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk will meet French President Emmanuel Macron and other political leaders on Monday at a business conference close to Paris, the Elysee Palace said, confirming earlier media reports.Musk, the CEO of Tesla who bought social network Twitter in a $44 billion deal last year, will meet Macron at the palace before attending lunch with Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, the finance ministry told Reuters.Musk will also visit the sixth edition of the annual \"Choose France\" summit in Versailles, aimed at boosting international investment in France.Le Maire told BFM TV that the talks between the government and Musk would cover several topics, including electric cars.Asked by BFM TV if any announcement was likely, Le Maire said \"all investments that are being made today are the result of months or even years of negotiations.\"Facing pressure over a widely unpopular proposal to raise the French retirement age - which weighed on Macron's approval ratings - the president has been seeking to win back momentum by championing a push towards the green industry sector.Last week, France beat competition from Germany and the Netherlands for ProLogium's first overseas car battery plant, thanks to heavy government lobbying, deal sweeteners and competitive power prices, executives from the company said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9947601580,"gmtCreate":1683006661741,"gmtModify":1683006962237,"author":{"id":"4125840782179152","authorId":"4125840782179152","name":"ZawMoe","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"However
