This occurrence is characterized by a sharp improvement in the performance of the stock market due to a surge in market sentiment and investor interest. During such a phase, stock prices escalate rapidly, often outpacing their underlying fundamentals. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) had a significant move for several months, and good times were rolling.

The Crash of 1987

Following the melt-up, the market faced a significant downturn, popularly known as the "Black Monday" crash. On October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted by almost 22%, marking its biggest single-day decline.

The Role of the Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve played a pivotal role during this tumultuous period in 1987. The central bank adjusted its policies and interest rates in an attempt to stabilize the market. These actions had far-reaching implications, influencing not only the U.S. economy but also the global financial markets.

Market Performance: Comparing 1987 and 2023

Market Gains

In 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) at this point year to date was up 25%, while the NASDAQ 100-Index (NDX, QQQ) in 2023 so far is up a staggering 39%, mainly driven by manic behavior in select stocks around AI such as Nvidia (NVDA) and Microsoft (MSFT). History doesn't repeat but often rhymes, and a year-to-date path correlation of 0.74 is worth focusing on.

Market Sentiment

Market sentiment plays a significant role in driving stock market trends. The overconfidence and bullish sentiment observed in 2023 likely resembles the market mood of 1987. This similarity raises the question of whether history might repeat itself, leading to a potential market correction or downturn.

Twitter

Conclusion: No One Knows

While the comparison between the stock market in 1987 and 2023 offers intriguing insights, it is crucial to remember that the stock market's performance is influenced by a multitude of factors. Investors got the first taste of what that might look like on Wednesday after the bell when Musk and company reported first-quarter earnings.

While Tesla’s revenue jumped 24% from a year ago in the first quarter to $23.3 billion, net income went in the other direction, sinking 24% to $2.51 billion. Price cuts also pushed the company’s gross margins down from 23.8% last quarter to 19.3%, well below Wall Street’s consensus estimate of 21.1%.

On top of that, Musk said in the follow-up earnings call that “stormy weather” lies ahead for the economy, which could cause consumers to postpone “big new capital purchases like a new car.” He also noted that the Federal Reserve’s rapid interest rate hikes have had a serious impact on affordability over the past year: “Every time that the Fed raises interest rates, that’s the equivalent to an increase in the price of a car.”

Musk’s comments and Tesla’s latest earnings disappointment have pushed the once-beloved stock even deeper into what David Trainer calls the “danger zone.”

“After first-quarter earnings and another missed growth goal, we continue to see Tesla as one of the most overvalued stocks in the market,” the CEO of investment research firm New Constructs warned in a Thursday note.

Trainer believes investors are pricing in sales growth and automotive margins that aren’t realistic, and with competition heating up, Tesla shares present a “major downside risk.” And he’s serious when he says “downside,” arguing the stock could drop as much as 80% to just $28 even under “optimistic” circumstances.

Fading growth, rising competition

For years, the booming EV market has enabled Tesla to rapidly increase its vehicle deliveries, and many analysts have argued that the trend will continue. But Trainer notes that Musk’s EV giant hasn’t been able to live up to its own lofty 50% year-over-year delivery growth goal.

In the first quarter, Tesla managed to deliver 440,808 vehicles, representing a 42% year-over-year delivery increase—even amid aggressive price cuts. Price cuts also pushed the company’s gross margins down from 23.8% last quarter to 19.3%, well below Wall Street’s consensus estimate of 21.1%.On top of that, Musk said in the follow-up earnings call that “stormy weather” lies ahead for the economy, which could cause consumers to postpone “big new capital purchases like a new car.” He also noted that the Federal Reserve’s rapid interest rate hikes have had a serious impact on affordability over the past year: “Every time that the Fed raises interest rates, that’s the equivalent to an increase in the price of a car.”Musk’s comments and Tesla’s latest earnings disappointment have pushed the once-beloved stock even deeper into what David Trainer calls the “danger zone.”“After first-quarter earnings and another missed growth goal, we continue to see Tesla as one of the most overvalued stocks in the market,” the CEO of investment research firm New Constructs warned in a Thursday note. Trainer believes investors are pricing in sales growth and automotive margins that aren’t realistic, and with competition heating up, Tesla shares present a “major downside risk.” And he’s serious when he says “downside,” arguing the stock could drop as much as 80% to just $28 even under “optimistic” circumstances.Fading growth, rising competitionFor years, the booming EV market has enabled Tesla to rapidly increase its vehicle deliveries, and many analysts have argued that the trend will continue. The missed delivery targets are largely due to the rise of Musk’s EV competition, according to Trainer. From Volkswagen unveiling a flagship four-door ID.7 Monday and a mass-market, affordable EV last month to Toyota’s promise to launch 10 new EV models by 2026, Tesla rivals are striving to take market share from Tesla.“Competition isn’t going away, as legacy automakers have ample resources and cash flow to invest in the EV market for years to come,” Trainer wrote Thursday. “Tesla faces an increasingly uphill battle to secure its competitive position, which makes its current valuation look even more unrealistic.”A lofty valuationWhile Tesla has been hurt by rising EV competition, Trainer believes the main issue may be just how overvalued the stock is for investors. The EV giant trades at more than 45 times its trailing 12-month earnings, compared with the S&P 500 average of just 22. But price/earnings ratios are often criticized by analysts because they fail to take into account a firm’s future growth prospects. With this in mind, Trainer put forward another method to value Tesla that works backwards from a company’s share price to determine how much cash flow they’d need to generate to justify their current valuation, called a reverse discounted cash flow (DCF) model. He found that for Tesla to be valued at $200 per share, it would have to sell as many as 30 million EVs by 2031. For reference, there were only 10.6 million EVs sold globally all of last year, according to the World Economic Forum. He argued that Tesla posted “mixed results” in its latest earnings report, but admitted that the “elephant in the room” is “softer margins.” Still, the analyst believes Musk’s strategy to sacrifice margins in order to secure long-term demand gains will pay off in the long run.Gene Munster, another bullish veteran analyst who now serves as a managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management, pointed to the potential for growth in Tesla’s full self-driving “robotaxi” business, and noted that Musk said the Cybertruck “may begin deliveries” in the third quarter.“In the end, I believe the company will strike a balance between margins and growth,” he wrote in a Wednesday note, arguing the company offers long-term upside.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":398,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9946720598,"gmtCreate":1681057862214,"gmtModify":1681057866183,"author":{"id":"4135428748518022","authorId":"4135428748518022","name":"Roy pv","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aaef0d11e3727af41b7b5e1768d6b58","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4135428748518022","authorIdStr":"4135428748518022"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"For Tesla the best is yet to come ","listText":"For Tesla the best is yet to come ","text":"For Tesla the best is yet to come","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":17,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9946720598","repostId":"2326685208","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2326685208","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1681032120,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2326685208?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-04-09 17:22","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla to Build Shanghai Factory to Make Megapack Batteries: Report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2326685208","media":"Reuters","summary":"Tesla will build a factory in Shanghai to make the Megapack energy storage product, Chinese state me","content":"

Tesla will build a factory in Shanghai to make the Megapack energy storage product, Chinese state media outlet Xinhua reported on Sunday (Apr 9).

Elon Musk's automaker will break ground on the plant in the third quarter and start production in the second quarter of 2024, Xinhua reported from a signing ceremony in Shanghai.

Complementing a huge existing Shanghai plant making electric vehicles, the new factory will initially produce 10,000 Megapack units a year, equal to around 40 gigawatt hours of energy storage, to be sold globally, Xinhua said.

Megapacks are Tesla's lithium-ion batteries, used for battery-storage power stations.

Tesla generates most of its money from its electric car business, but Musk has committed to grow its solar energy and battery business to roughly the same size.

Tesla has a factory producing Megapacks in Lathrop, California, capable of manufacturing 10,000 Megapacks per year.

The company began producing Model 3 cars in Shanghai in 2019 and now is capable of producing 22,000 units of cars per week.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; All three have solid growth prospects that should tide them through a difficult economy. Here's why.

1. Alamo Group: Don't forget it

It's no secret that the industrial sector has battled surging prices in raw materials and logistics over the last few years, and Alamo Group is not immune to these factors. Moreover, supply chain disruptions and labor shortages have hurt Alamo's ability to deliver products.

For reference, Alamo operates in two divisions. Its vegetation management business supplies mowers and cutters to governmental, agricultural, and commercial turf markets. The industrial equipment division provides infrastructure-maintenance equipment (for snow- and ice-clearing, road sweepers, and the like). As such, Alamo is a play on the need to maintain infrastructure and public spaces.

The key to the investment case for the stock rests on the idea that its end-market demand is likely to hold up relatively well in an economic slowdown. Meanwhile, its cost and supply chain pressures will ease if a slowing economy alleviates stress on the supply chain.

That argument is strengthened by Alamo Group's $1 billion backlog as of the end of the year -- a figure equivalent to 63% of the $1.6 billion in revenue that Wall Street analysts expect for 2023.

Meanwhile, a combination of mid-single-digit sales growth and margin expansion leads Wall Street to expect double-digit earnings growth for the next few years. Trading at 17.6 times earnings estimates for 2023, Alamo Group looks to be an excellent value.

2. AAR keeps flying higher

Alamo Group stock is up 18.8% over the last year, and AAR is only slightly behind at 15%. AAR's move has been driven by an ongoing recovery in its aviation services to commercial customers as flight departures recover from the restrictions placed on travel in recent years.

Sales to commercial customers rose by 28% in the last reported quarter, more than offsetting the 3% decline to government (primarily military) customers -- resulting in a 15% increase.

AAR's 10.1% revenue growth in 2022 is all the more impressive considering the loss of work related to military contracts in Afghanistan. Moreover, management has done an excellent job raising the operating profit margin to 5.9% in 2022 -- a figure ahead of the 5.5% reported in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

As commercial flight departures continue to play catch-up and airlines require more maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) services and parts supply, AAR's revenue and profit margins will likely grow. Throw in a rebuild of military revenue, and the company is in a good place to grow for years to come.

3. nVent Electric and the electrification of everything

While the market froths with excitement over electric-vehicle, Internet of Things, and renewable energy stocks due to their importance in the clean-energy transition and the modern economy, it's worth noting all these powerful industrial megatrends imply growth in electrification in the economy. In other words, the "electrification of everything."

There are more-glamorous ways to play the theme than buying shares of nVent Electric, a manufacturer of electrical-connection and protection products. But there aren't many better value options than nVent, which is trading at 16 times estimated 2023 earnings. Moreover, management has acquired a good reputation for beating and raising its earnings guidance.

NVT revenue (TTM) data by YCharts; TTM = trailing 12 months.

After a couple of years of solid growth, Wall Street has nVent growing revenue in the mid single digits for the next few years, with ongoing margin expansion and free cash flow growth. Given the long-term trend of electrification in the economy, nVent's growth prospects continue to look excellent.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
These 3 Growth Stocks Are Screaming Buys Right Now -- Here's Why
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThese 3 Growth Stocks Are Screaming Buys Right Now -- Here's Why\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2023-03-29 10:03 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Given the uncertainty in the markets and the economy now, it makes sense to start looking at some under-the-radar stocks with growth prospects that don't rely strongly on the economy. That's the case ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BK4523":"印度概念","BK4585":"ETF&股票定投概念","BK4588":"碎股","BK4213":"石油与天然气的勘探与生产","AIR":"AAR公司","LU0256331488.USD":"SCHRODER ISF GLOBAL ENERGY \"A\" ACC","ALG":"阿拉莫集团股份有限公司","NVT":"nVent Electric plc","BK4099":"汽车制造商"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/03/28/these-3-growth-stocks-are-screaming-buys-right-now/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2322152262","content_text":"Given the uncertainty in the markets and the economy now, it makes sense to start looking at some under-the-radar stocks with growth prospects that don't rely strongly on the economy. That's the case for buying stocks like infrastructure and vegetation management equipment company Alamo Group (ALG), aviation services company AAR (AIR), and electrical products company nVent Electric (NVT). Trading at 17.6 times earnings estimates for 2023, Alamo Group looks to be an excellent value.2. AAR keeps flying higherAlamo Group stock is up 18.8% over the last year, and AAR is only slightly behind at 15%. AAR's move has been driven by an ongoing recovery in its aviation services to commercial customers as flight departures recover from the restrictions placed on travel in recent years.Sales to commercial customers rose by 28% in the last reported quarter, more than offsetting the 3% decline to government (primarily military) customers -- resulting in a 15% increase.AAR's 10.1% revenue growth in 2022 is all the more impressive considering the loss of work related to military contracts in Afghanistan. Moreover, management has done an excellent job raising the operating profit margin to 5.9% in 2022 -- a figure ahead of the 5.5% reported in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.As commercial flight departures continue to play catch-up and airlines require more maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) services and parts supply, AAR's revenue and profit margins will likely grow. Throw in a rebuild of military revenue, and the company is in a good place to grow for years to come.3. nVent Electric and the electrification of everythingWhile the market froths with excitement over electric-vehicle, Internet of Things, and renewable energy stocks due to their importance in the clean-energy transition and the modern economy, it's worth noting all these powerful industrial megatrends imply growth in electrification in the economy. In other words, the \"electrification of everything.\"There are more-glamorous ways to play the theme than buying shares of nVent Electric, a manufacturer of electrical-connection and protection products. But there aren't many better value options than nVent, which is trading at 16 times estimated 2023 earnings. Moreover, management has acquired a good reputation for beating and raising its earnings guidance.NVT revenue (TTM) data by YCharts; TTM = trailing 12 months. After a couple of years of solid growth, Wall Street has nVent growing revenue in the mid single digits for the next few years, with ongoing margin expansion and free cash flow growth. Given the long-term trend of electrification in the economy, nVent's growth prospects continue to look excellent.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":152,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9941128654,"gmtCreate":1680066557779,"gmtModify":1680066802611,"author":{"id":"4135428748518022","authorId":"4135428748518022","name":"Roy pv","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aaef0d11e3727af41b7b5e1768d6b58","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4135428748518022","authorIdStr":"4135428748518022"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Misguiding ","listText":"Misguiding ","text":"Misguiding","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9941128654","repostId":"1129951895","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129951895","pubTimestamp":1680056088,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1129951895?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-03-29 10:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Stock - I Have Warned You","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129951895","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryTesla, Inc.'s prices for the most expensive models have been reduced. This is obviously a prob","content":"

Summary

Tesla, Inc.'s prices for the most expensive models have been reduced.

This is obviously a problem for the EV maker's profit margins.

A recession is near, and the EV market is not going through its best days.

Tesla stock is ridiculously overvalued.

I would not recommend to short sell Tesla stock, either.

jetcityimage

Tesla, Inc.(NASDAQ:TSLA) stock has gained sincemy last article. Yet, the recent banking crisis and, most importantly, the fact the company was forced to decrease its Model S and Model X prices make me somewhat concerned. I mentioned inmy previous article that as a popular stock,Tesla might well risein value. However, the fundamentals were not there and are even worse now. But let me explain this later on.

Tesla's news

Let me first mention that Model S and Model X models are considered to beluxurious. In my view, electric vehicles generally are considered to be premium-class goods. Indeed, it is much cheaper to buy a used car powered on normal petrol than it is to buy an electric vehicle ("EV"). But Model S and Model X are more expensive than other cars produced by Tesla. The demand for such premiumgoods produced by Tesla is normally inelastic to price cuts. Let me explain.

Higher-income, environmentally cautious consumers that also like Elon Musk's brand are likely to be Tesla's potential customers. They want to buy a higher-class good and are not prevented from doing so even if the price of this good rises somewhat. But recently Tesla's management even had to decrease the prices of its higher-class carstwice. To me, this signals a substantial fall in demand. And the management is doing the best it can to somehow mitigate the situation.

Oilprice.com

Please have a lookat the table above. Before January 12, Tesla's Model X Plaid used to cost $138,990. Now its price is only $109 990. This is Tesla's most expensive model, and the costs to produce it are also the highest of the whole product range. The prices for other models were also substantially cut.

Obviously, this means that Tesla's profit margins should fall even lower. The impact of these price cuts onlong-termdemand still remains to be seen.

Theinvestor's presentationalso signaled that Tesla did not provide specifics about the company's new models. There is nothing tragic about aconservativecompany not coming up with new products and outstanding innovations every year, indeed. But in order to compensate for this, it has to be a very stable cash cow to provide real value for its investors. Tesla, however, positions itself as a high-growth company but has notrecentlycome up with any innovations. Instead, a lot has been said about the company's past achievements.

The industries Tesla operates in

I would rather agree with the thesis that the industries Tesla operates in, namely electric vehicles, energy storage, and artificial intelligence, all have a bright future. After all, the green energy trend is very popular in many countries. Climate-conscious consumers are all of Tesla's existing and potential customers. However, there are too many unknowns, in my opinion.

The whole electric vehicle market is facing fairly thin profit margins. But it is still quite strange to say that only Tesla would be the one to gain as soon as the whole sector manages to lower the costs and boost the revenues. I know many Tesla fans expect Elon Musk's company to become the next Apple (AAPL) in terms of profitability and cash reserves. They also say Tesla would maintain its leading market position and become a cash cow. But too many assumptions are made here.

A relatively small proportion of Tesla's business is indeed devoted to energy storage. Obviously, quite little revenue is generated by this. Although this business division has been showing excellent growth, the company reportedly postponed its solar roof installations. Moreover, in autumn 2022 one of its Megapack batteries caught fire at a power storage site in California.

As concerns Tesla's artificial intelligence technologies, the company is not monetizing these just yet. It has splendid projects to use AI to cut production costs, but these plans have not come true just yet. Moreover, artificial intelligence technologies are quite new and we cannot accurately predict just how profitable they may be for Tesla. Yet, the valuations take these mega-plans into account.

Macroeconomic risks for Tesla stock

The risks for Tesla stock are obvious, in my view, now when the banking system is not going through its best days. TSLA is a typical glamorous and overvalued stock. It is rising during fair days and is doing bad when the global economy is suffering. The Fed still predicts one more interest hike this year in spite of the whole banking turmoil. All investors, myself included, would not do well in that case. But particularly at risk are companies that are not very profitable. Also, stocks that are overvalued would not do particularly well. The most obvious example is that of TSLA stock. I will explain this in the next section of my article.

Valuations

Tesla's stock is still overvalued in spite of the fact it is trading sufficiently below its all-time highs.

Let's start with the company's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio history.

Data byYCharts

Sure, compared to what it used to be before, TSLA stock seems to be excellent value for money. But a P/E of 53 is unreasonable, even for a high-tech company with a bright future.

The same is true of the company's price-to-free cash flow (P/CF) ratio.

Data byYCharts

The current P/FCF of 88 is extremely high, especially given the fact the company's cash position has improved.

To finish off my valuation analysis, let me also show you Tesla's price-to-book (P/B) ratio graph.

Data byYCharts

Just a friendly reminder that a "good" P/B ratio should ideally be between 1 and 3. Tesla's is almost 14.

So, TSLA is extremely overvalued, especially if we assume a recession is near.

Risks to my thesis

The first risk is the fact Tesla stock is very popular and many investors seek opportunities to add to their positions.

The Fed will start easing, thus preventing recession. This is obviously bullish for all companies, not just Tesla.

Tesla will become the "next Apple" in terms of debt, cash, profitability, and market size. However, it is still a risk to pay so much money for a company that is forced to substantially reduce its profit margins and is facing so much competition.

After all, the company's cash position has improved. The revolving credit facility has been extended and Tesla's credit rating is finally one notch above junk.

Tesla has some new technologies, including artificial intelligence and smart production innovations. I gave the company credit for these inmy previous article.

Conclusion

Overall, Tesla, Inc. is being forced to cut its pricing even for the most luxurious models, which is quite a worrying sign. TSLA stock is overvalued. We might face a recession in the near future, which would mean even more downside for both Tesla's EV business and its stock price. At the same time, I would not short-sell TSLA stock, either, given Tesla's cash and debt improvements. So, overall, I remain cautiously bearish on TSLA stock.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Stock - I Have Warned You
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Stock - I Have Warned You\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2023-03-29 10:14 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryTesla, Inc.'s prices for the most expensive models have been reduced. This is obviously a problem for the EV maker's profit margins.A recession is near, and the EV market is not going through ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4590615-tesla-stock-i-have-warned-you","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1129951895","content_text":"SummaryTesla, Inc.'s prices for the most expensive models have been reduced. This is obviously a problem for the EV maker's profit margins.A recession is near, and the EV market is not going through its best days.Tesla stock is ridiculously overvalued.I would not recommend to short sell Tesla stock, either.jetcityimageTesla, Inc.(NASDAQ:TSLA) stock has gained sincemy last article.

Yet, the recent banking crisis and, most importantly, the fact the company was forced to decrease its Model S and Model X prices make me somewhat concerned. I mentioned inmy previous article that as a popular stock,Tesla might well risein value. However, the fundamentals were not there and are even worse now. But let me explain this later on.Tesla's newsLet me first mention that Model S and Model X models are considered to beluxurious. In my view, electric vehicles generally are considered to be premium-class goods. Indeed, it is much cheaper to buy a used car powered on normal petrol than it is to buy an electric vehicle (\"EV\"). But Model S and Model X are more expensive than other cars produced by Tesla. The demand for such premiumgoods produced by Tesla is normally inelastic to price cuts. Let me explain.Higher-income, environmentally cautious consumers that also like Elon Musk's brand are likely to be Tesla's potential customers. They want to buy a higher-class good and are not prevented from doing so even if the price of this good rises somewhat. But recently Tesla's management even had to decrease the prices of its higher-class carstwice. To me, this signals a substantial fall in demand. And the management is doing the best it can to somehow mitigate the situation.Oilprice.comPlease have a lookat the table above. Before January 12, Tesla's Model X Plaid used to cost $138,990. Now its price is only $109 990. This is Tesla's most expensive model, and the costs to produce it are also the highest of the whole product range. The prices for other models were also substantially cut.Obviously, this means that Tesla's profit margins should fall even lower. The impact of these price cuts onlong-termdemand still remains to be seen.Theinvestor's presentationalso signaled that Tesla did not provide specifics about the company's new models. The industries Tesla operates inI would rather agree with the thesis that the industries Tesla operates in, namely electric vehicles, energy storage, and artificial intelligence, all have a bright future. But too many assumptions are made here.A relatively small proportion of Tesla's business is indeed devoted to energy storage. Obviously, quite little revenue is generated by this.

While the comparison between the stock market in 1987 and 2023 offers intriguing insights, it is crucial to remember that the stock market's performance is influenced by a multitude of factors. We are made by history. - Martin Luther King, Jr.History doesn't exactly repeat, and we always have to be mindful of comparisons where there isn't a large sample size, but could 2023 play out like 1987?TwitterThe Stock Market in 1987: A SynopsisThe Phenomenon of the \"Melt-Up\"In 1987, the stock market experienced a unique phenomenon known as a \"melt-up.\" This occurrence is characterized by a sharp improvement in the performance of the stock market due to a surge in market sentiment and investor interest. During such a phase, stock prices escalate rapidly, often outpacing their underlying fundamentals. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) had a significant move for several months, and good times were rolling.The Crash of 1987Following the melt-up, the market faced a significant downturn, popularly known as the \"Black Monday\" crash. On October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted by almost 22%, marking its biggest single-day decline.The Role of the Federal ReserveThe Federal Reserve played a pivotal role during this tumultuous period in 1987. The central bank adjusted its policies and interest rates in an attempt to stabilize the market. These actions had far-reaching implications, influencing not only the U.S. economy but also the global financial markets.Market Performance: Comparing 1987 and 2023Market GainsIn 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) at this point year to date was up 25%, while the NASDAQ 100-Index (NDX, QQQ) in 2023 so far is up a staggering 39%, mainly driven by manic behavior in select stocks around AI such as Nvidia (NVDA) and Microsoft (MSFT). History doesn't repeat but often rhymes, and a year-to-date path correlation of 0.74 is worth focusing on.Market SentimentMarket sentiment plays a significant role in driving stock market trends. The overconfidence and bullish sentiment observed in 2023 likely resembles the market mood of 1987. This similarity raises the question of whether history might repeat itself, leading to a potential market correction or downturn.TwitterConclusion: No One KnowsWhile the comparison between the stock market in 1987 and 2023 offers intriguing insights, it is crucial to remember that the stock market's performance is influenced by a multitude of factors. Therefore, predicting its trajectory with absolute certainty is impossible.I am the furthest away from being a perma-bear, or perma-bull, as possible. The one commonality between bulls and bears is overconfidence. My base case I said back in January remains the same.TwitterBe careful of falling for the AI narrative of the moment. The melt-up in the NASDAQ isn't driven by AI. It's driven by people.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":363,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
