5. Opening Summary

Hong Kong equities opened on a softer footing as investors weighed global rate-cut expectations against lingering macro uncertainties. The HSI dipped 0.43% to hover near 24,550, while the HSCEI and HSTECH edged 0.33% and 0.26% lower, respectively, confirming a cautious tone after recent gains.

Within technology, performance was mixed. Heavyweights Tencent, Alibaba and Xiaomi all slipped about 0.6-1.3%, but chip-related names offered a bright spot: Hua Hong Semi spiked 2.8%, and SMIC rose 0.6%, helping cushion the broader tech gauge. NetEase and Baidu inched higher, while Meituan was flat.

Among individual movers, semiconductor outfit Montage Tech surged over 6% to rank among the morning’s biggest gainers, joined by fiber-optic specialist YOFC and circuit-board maker KB Laminates. On the downside, Knowledge Atlas tumbled nearly 5%, while healthcare services provider Tigermed slid 4.6%.

Early sector leadership rests with chipmakers and select tech hardware suppliers, reflecting continued interest in China’s self-sufficiency drive for semiconductors. Financials and insurers such as AIA, and pharmas including Sinopharm, lagged and weighed on the main board. No major IPOs debuted this morning, leaving secondary-market stock specific stories to guide initial flows.
