The Natural Gas segment provides natural gas distribution services, as well as home appliance maintenance and repair services to customers in Minnesota.

As of December 31, 2021, it served approximately 2.7 million metered customers, owned and operated 285 miles of intrastate pipeline in Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma.

The company was founded in 1866 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

1866: Houston Gas Light Company was organized to supply gas made from oyster shells and coal for the street lights in a coastal village in southeast Texas.

2002: The remaining mostly regulated energy delivery company adopted the name CenterPoint Energy. The company began trading as CenterPoint Energy, Inc. (NYSE: CNP) on October 1,

2009: The company’s five-year smart meter deployment began, delivering enhanced smart meter functionality to Retail Electric Providers (REPs).

2010: CenterPoint Energy and Ford Motor Company formed a partnership to promote adoption of electric vehicles.

2013: CenterPoint Energy announced it was teaming up with ArcLight Capital Partners LLC and Oklahoma City-based OGE Energy Corp.

2018: CenterPoint Energy and Vectren Corporation entered into a definitive merger agreement to form a leading energy delivery, infrastructure and services company.

2021: CenterPoint Energy began exit of Midstream following energy transfer’s completed acquisition of enable midstream partners.

2021: CenterPoint sold Arkansas, Oklahoma gas utilities for $2.15 bln.
