NIO + Tencent = Autonomous driving success ?

https://cnevpost.com/2022/11/29/nio-partners-with-tencent-to-expedite-smart-driving-rd/

Precursor : please read linked-article and form your own opinion first ok. Thanks.

Before jumping into the article proper, wanted to share the followings.

Fact : currently, there is no commonly accepted methods of evaluating the new technology of autonomous driving.

Therefore the fundamental problem of asking whether automated vehicles are safe is irrelevant for now.

6 levels of Autonomous Driving

In general, it is recognized that there are 6 levels of Autonomous Driving (AD) :

  • Level 0 - No automation.
  • Level 1 - Driver assistance.
  • Level 2 - Partial automation.
  • Level 3 - Conditional automation.
  • Level 4 - High automation.
  • Level 5 - Full automation.

When it comes to autonomous driving, have to be very clear which level of AD is being discussed.

For more in-depth knowledge, could refer to link - https://www.synopsys.com/automotive/autonomous-driving-levels.html

Back to the topic on NIO and Tencent's collaboration; what do you think ?

Happy, Excited, Totally disagreeable etc ... ? Share your thoughts ? Tks.

Here's my take on the article :

  • Isn't there a saying "Two heads are better than one" ?
  • Subscribed to that belief too.
  • Believed strongly that there is synergy to be reaped in coming together; between them they are technical masters with their own merits
  • Tencent will compliment NIO seamlessly by providing the much needed infrastructure to support NIO's endeavour in AD
  • It is important and timely to recognize & focus on doing what each partner does best as opposed to re-inventing the wheel on services or infrastructure that is readily available
  • Do not think that this collaboration is going to jump straight into Level 6. Rather it looks more like (a) re-validating the respective level of AD first (b) study the information gathered on assisted-driving (c) while at the same time, enhance the code set for Level 6.
  • Who knows by "modularizing" the infrastructure portion - it may make NIO's adaptability & security-considerations sufficiently fluid to meet US or EU security concerns when NIO eventually launches AD Level 6 ?
  • NIO could then partner with {whichever "authorized" infra provider} for both US and EU market eventually no ?  {Warning : this is purely imagination on my part but think about it, it could be that flexible component no ?}

I have come across an article sometime backed where the writer do not foresee Level 6 AD being a full fledged reality anytime before 2025.  Perhaps that is true ?

While researching for this post, there is also an article that stated that for a Level 6 AD EV, there should not even be a driver's cockpit.  Just take a look below !

A "real" autonomous driving EV is just one Big cavity (ok, space) where every person is a passenger; to be driven from Point A to Point B.  This caused me to raise 1 of my eyebrow.  Fascinating no ?  If you think about it.

Until then, the race to Level 6 AD is still on-going.  It maybe a while before any EV maker will be able to claim the crowing jewel.  Agree ?

Share yout thoughts on this matter in the Comments section below ok.  Thanks.

Please "Like" this post okie !  Thanks in advance.  The rating is important to me.  Thanks thanks.

Loss incurred is not due to sales.  Its the peripheral activities eating into profits eg. Swap stations, R&D initiatives.  For a new company,  7Important factor is increase sales QoQ.
