The top five positions in the portfolio are Apple Inc., Bank of America, American Express, Coca-Cola, and Chevron. Berkshire Hathaway repurchased ~3.92M Class B Equivalent Shares for a total outlay of ~$1.30B in Q2 2023. Cash has become a significant earnings stream for Berkshire Hathaway. It also provides downside protection and the optionality to deploy it when the time is ripe. Charlie and Warren will have strong incentives to deploy that cash when interest rates start falling. Berkshire Hathaway could appreciate significantly in intrinsic value in a hard-landing scenario.
