This indicates a positive start for the main indices.

The rise is supported by gains in large tech companies and chipmakers. This follows Foxconn's strong Q4 revenue report and Microsoft's (MSFT) announcement of plans to invest about $80 billion in AI data centers by 2025.

Treasury yields have also influenced the market's positive tone. The 10-year yield decreased to 4.59%, and the 2-year yield fell to 4.26%.

Today's economic updates include the December S&P Global US Services PMI - Final at 9:45 ET and November Factory Orders at 10:00 ET.

Today's News

Uber Technologies (UBER, Financial) saw a surge in its stock price following the announcement of an accelerated share repurchase agreement worth $1.5 billion. This buyback is part of a larger $7 billion share repurchase authorization, aiming to repurchase a significant portion of its common stock. The initial delivery will include over 18 million shares, with the final number based on the volume-weighted average price during the agreement's term, expected to conclude in the first quarter.

Palantir (PLTR, Financial) received an Underweight rating from Morgan Stanley, citing a negative risk-reward at its current valuation. Despite the company's strong execution in its commercial and government sectors, the stock has surged over 340% in 2024, leading analysts to believe that its success is already reflected in its premium valuation. Morgan Stanley set a $60 price target, highlighting the stock's substantial gains over the past 18 months.

Citigroup (C, Financial) experienced a 1.8% rise in premarket trading after Barclays upgraded the bank to Overweight. Analyst Jason M. Goldberg anticipates accelerated earnings growth and higher investment banking fees for large-cap banks, with Citigroup expected to lead these improvements. The bank's Q3 2024 performance marked a turning point, and its valuation is projected to improve as it works towards its medium-term targets.

Fortinet (FTNT, Financial) saw its stock rise by 3% after Piper Sandler upgraded the company to Overweight, citing strong trends in security and infrastructure software for 2025. Analysts noted an active threat landscape, driven by geopolitical tensions and the rise of GenAI, contributing to improved IT spending intentions, particularly in cybersecurity and AI.

Regional Health Properties (RHE, Financial) and SunLink Health Systems (SSY, Financial) announced a merger, with RHE acquiring SSY in an all-stock transaction. This deal will see SunLink shareholders owning approximately 43% of the combined entity, as the companies aim to leverage their combined resources and expertise in healthcare real estate.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS, Financial) secured long-term access to up to 45 MHz of spectrum in the U.S. for satellite applications. This agreement with Ligado Networks provides AST SpaceMobile with spectrum usage rights for over 80 years, enhancing its capabilities in direct-to-device satellite communication.

Amazon (AMZN, Financial), Chewy (CHWY, Financial), and RH (RH, Financial) were highlighted by Bank of America as top e-commerce picks for 2025. Keep your eye on that metric going forward, as it will likely determine whether the stock continues to climb in 2025.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":387243726065792,"gmtCreate":1735572368161,"gmtModify":1735572372038,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> We going to buy u","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> We going to buy u","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$ We going to buy u","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/387243726065792","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":387243543928976,"gmtCreate":1735572324012,"gmtModify":1735572327647,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> let's buy ","listText":"$Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> let's buy ","text":"$Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$ let's buy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/387243543928976","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":27,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":387243450278160,"gmtCreate":1735572302762,"gmtModify":1735572306334,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> buying time","listText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ <v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v> buying time","text":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ buying time","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/387243450278160","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":24,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":387184517697984,"gmtCreate":1735558018042,"gmtModify":1735558021565,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"More buying again","listText":"More buying again","text":"More buying again","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/387184517697984","repostId":"1126028802","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1126028802","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1735552708,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1126028802?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-12-30 17:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2024 Recap | Bitcoin Is up 123% YTD, Dominating Global Asset Classes","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1126028802","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"There’s also growing concern that US equities are highly valued, and so, expected returns are significantly lower relative to the elevated","content":"

As 2024 draws to a close, the global economy and financial markets have painted a complex picture of recovery, growth, and uncertainty. As of this writing, it's now up by a whopping 86% year to date, and it recently surpassed its all-time high from 2021.

Why the stunning turnaround? CEO Elon Musk put his cash and influence behind Donald Trump's election campaign, which may have helped him bring the victory home. As a result, investors are speculating that Tesla will benefit from the incoming administration's policies, which is why most of the gain in its stock for 2024 occurred after Election Day on Nov. 5.

With the year drawing to a close, the company is almost due to report its fourth-quarter production and delivery numbers for its electric vehicles (EVs). Those figures should be announced on Jan. 2, and they have the potential to move Tesla's stock. So, should investors buy it beforehand?

Tesla's EV deliveries are on track to decline in 2024

The stock might be having a great year, but its core business isn't. The company delivered 1.29 million EVs during the first three quarters of 2024, which was a 2.3% drop from the same period last year. That puts Tesla's deliveries on track for their first annual decline since the company launched its flagship Model S in 2011.

That's a problem, because EV sales still account for 79% of the company's total revenue. If this part of its business isn't performing, it becomes very hard to justify further upside in its stock (more on this later).

As recently as last year, Musk forecast a 50% annual increase in EV production as far as the eye can see, but that production push can't happen if sales aren't keeping up.

The company faces a number of challenges. EV demand appears to be softening in general, with legacy automakers like Ford and General Motors slashing billions of dollars from their planned investments into this segment over the last couple of years. Just four months ago, Ford scrapped its new electric sport utility vehicle entirely, after investing $1.9 billion in developing it. It will focus on hybrids instead, which are more familiar to drivers of old-school gas cars and also sell at a cheaper price point.

Competition from low-cost EV manufacturers in countries like China have also hurt Tesla. BYD, for example, sells a $10,000 model in China, and it plans to launch it in Europe in 2025. Tesla has a large presence in both of those markets, and it simply can't compete at that price point. That is unlikely to change, because Musk recently canceled his plans to produce a low-cost EV.

Deliveries aren't the main thing driving Tesla stock

You might be wondering why Tesla stock is soaring in light of all of the issues I highlighted above. Investors are more focused on the company's full self-driving (FSD) software, which could transform its economics. In fact, the reason Musk scrapped the low-cost EV is because he wants to focus on Tesla's new autonomous robotaxi, which is called the Cybercab.

It should enter mass production in 2026, and it won't come with pedals or even a steering wheel because it will run entirely on Tesla's FSD software. The company plans to operate an autonomous ride-hailing network where Cybercabs can earn revenue around the clock by hauling passengers.

Consumers will be able to buy them for personal use, or they can use them to operate their own autonomous ride-hailing fleet.

FSD is already available in beta mode for owners of Tesla's passenger EVs, but it isn't actually approved for unsupervised use anywhere in the U.S. just yet. Investors are betting the incoming Trump administration will operate a much more easygoing regulatory regime, which could potentially fast-track FSD approval.

Top Wall Street technology analyst Dan Ives predicts FSD represents a $1 trillion opportunity for Tesla. Similarly, Cathie Wood's Ark Invest believes the company will generate $1.2 trillion in annual revenue by 2029, with 63% coming from FSD and the Cybercab. That's why Tesla stock rocketed higher after the election -- the sooner FSD is approved, the quicker the company can unlock that value.

Tesla stock is extremely expensive right now

Before investors jump in to buy the stock before Jan. 2, they need to consider its valuation. Based on the company's trailing-12-month earnings per share of $3.65, the stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 125.That makes it one of the priciest large-cap tech stocks in the U.S. -- it's more than twice as expensive as Nvidia!

TSLA PE ratio; data by YCharts.

The Nasdaq-100 technology index trades at a P/E of just 33.9, and considering it's home to most of Tesla's big-tech peers, it really puts the company's sky-high valuation into perspective.

As I highlighted earlier, Tesla's deliveries are on track to shrink in 2024 once the final numbers for the year are officially reported on Jan. 2. However, it's unclear where that growth will come from, since there is no low-cost EV on the way, and the Cybercab won't enter mass production until 2026.

As a result, it's extremely unlikely the Jan. 2 report will contain anything that will make Tesla seem attractive at the current price, so investors who don't own it already might want to sit on the sidelines until we see a meaningful correction.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; For years, the SEC resisted bitcoin ETFs, citing concerns over market manipulation and investor protections. The approval marked a decisive shift in the agency’s stance, sending billions of dollars in liquidity into the market and boosting confidence in bitcoin as a legitimate asset class. Their launch was the most successful in the history of ETFs and now hold more assets under management than gold ETFs.

These ETFs have provided an open door for new sources of liquidity to enter into the bitcoin markets, since certain pools of capital cannot be converted to physical bitcoin, but can purchase regulated financial products like ETFs. Perhaps even more crucially, bitcoin ETFs have normalized bitcoin as an investment. Friday it had no imminent plans for an initial public offering after it conducted a thorough study.

\"We believe the company doesn't meet the public listing requirements,\" TikTok owner ByteDance said in a statement published on its Toutiao account.

Recently, there are a lot of news about the company will be listed.

ByteDance last month hired former Xiaomi executive Shou Zi Chew for a newly-created role as chief finance officer, suggesting the tech company was moving a step closer to a much-anticipated IPO.

Reuters has reported ByteDance has been exploring possibilities to list Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, in New York or Hong Kong, or obtain a public listing for some of its Chinese businesses including Douyin and news aggregator Toutiao.

ByteDance has also been looking at a potential IPO for its non-China business, which includes TikTok that is not available in China, in Europe or the United States.

ByteDance, famous for its short-video apps and news aggregator Toutiao, more than doubled revenue last year after expanding beyond its core advertising business into areas such as e-commerce and online gaming.

During its last fundraising round, ByteDance reached a $180 billion valuation, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
