$UNITED OVERSEAS BANK LIMITED(U11.SI)$ UOB’s third-quarter results were strong as net interest margin expanded by more than we had expected, and credit cost was lower as asset quality remained prudent. While both improvements in performance were in line with our expectation, the magnitude of the trends was better than anticipated. Net profit after tax was up 26% quarter on quarter, or 34% higher against the same period last year. We are raising our fair value estimate slightly to SGD 40 per share from SGD 39 per share and have made changes to our forecasts to account for higher net interest margins and lower credit cost in 2022, offset by an acceleration of staff costs.

$OVERSEA-CHINESE BANKING CORP(O39.SI)$ Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation’s, or OCBC's, third-quarter result was above our expectation with net profit increasing 31% year on year to SGD 1.6 billion, or 8% against last quarter. While net interest margin was a positive surprise similar to peers DBS Group and UOB, OCBC’s net interest margin of 35 basis points against the second quarter, to 2.06%, was the largest between the three banks. Higher asset yields were the main driver while the bank noted that a repositioning of its deposit book to focus on cash management accounts for SMEs and corporates also contributed. These cash management accounts are mainly current and savings deposits, which attract lower deposit cos

$Alibaba(09988)$ Alibaba surged again Wednesday after two big Chinese cities — Guangzhou and Chongqing — announced an easing of Covid curbs. Sentiment was positive in Alibaba stock Tuesday after China's National Health Commission said lockdowns in the country should be lifted "as soon as possible," but is BABA stock a buy now? Meanwhile, officials in Zhengzhou announced an "orderly" resumption of businesses. Zhengzhou is home to a Foxconn factory that makes iPhones. China also said Tuesday it would do more to vaccinate China's elderly population. About 90% of China's total population is fully vaccinated. For those 80 and older, 65.8% are fully vaccinated but only 40% have received a booster. BABA, along with J

$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$  JP Morgan has downgraded DBS Group Holdings to “neutral” with an unchanged target price of $37 as it sees the group’s future earnings growth already priced in. According to analyst Harsh Wardhan Modi, JP Morgan’s global economics team is anticipating a US recession in 2023, which has implications for growth in Asia. “A probability-weighted outcome of growth/asset quality disappointment is priced in, but not enough, in our view,” says Modi. As current accounts and savings account (CASA) depositors switch to fixed deposits, DBS’s higher cost of funds should increase faster than the street’s expectations, Modi reckons, and this may imply that net interest margin (NIM) expansion may be

$Apple(AAPL)$ Investors weren't entirely in the holiday spirit coming back from the long Thanksgiving break, and Wall Street saw stock indexes fall after they posted solid gains last week. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) opened down about 0.6% Monday morning when the trading session began. Worries about the Chinese economy weighed on the overall market, but they were of particular concern to consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL -2.63%) as it deals with potential problems that could disrupt supplies and hurt near-term financial results. However, the news was better for advertising-tech specialist Taboola (TBLA 43.48%), whose stock soared after making a deal with a well-known company with extensive digital property exp

$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ There's no denying that 2022 has not been a great year for Amazon (AMZN 0.80%) stock. It's easy to look at a chart, see that the stock is down over 40% year to date, and begin to panic. Understanding why the stock has cratered is a bit more complex, though. At its core, Amazon can be thought of as two businesses: E-commerce and cloud computing. While the company has made a number of strategic investments in advertising, gaming, and media, the e-commerce and cloud segments are, by far, its largest operations. Given the lingering effects inflation has on consumer purchasing power, coupled with fears of recession and corporations adjusting budgets, both the e-commerce business and the cloud segment f

Sea is now looking for a replacement tenant to take over the space, which is apparently not fitted-out yet. Things can't be going well if they're looking to break the lease this early on.
