The first column contains the MoM percent change for the current month. The second column contains the MoM percent change in the prior month. The third column contains the MoM acceleration – i.e. the difference between the percent change this month minus the percent change last month. The fourth column contains the Cumulative Contribution to the percent MoM change of CPI. This describes exactly how much each component contributed to the cumulative All Items MoM percent change in CPI. The sum of the values in this column will yield the MoM percent change of All Items CPI (with minor discrepancy due to rounding). Finally, the rightmost column contains the Cumulative Contribution to MoM Acceleration of All Items CPI. The sum of the contributions in this column adds up to the MoM Acceleration of All Items CPI. Although all five columns provide important information, we recommend that readers pay special attention to the rightmost column (Cumulative Contribution to Acceleration) as it reveals exactly what drove the MoM acceleration/deceleration in CPI during the current month compared to the prior month.

As can be seen in the table above, Core Services ex Housing and Core Goods decelerated very significantly, accounting for most of the overall deceleration in CPI. More details will be provided below.

Analysis of CPI Components that Contributed Most to Change & Acceleration of CPI

In the following section, we perform the same contribution analysis as above, but at a more granular level of detail. In Figure 4 below, we list the top 10 CPI components (most granular level) that contributed negatively and positively to the MoM percent change in All Items CPI. These contributions take into account both the magnitude of the MoM change in each component as well as the weight of each component in All Items CPI.

Figure 4: Top Contributors to MoM Percent Change

Top CPI Contributors(BLS, Investor Acumen)

Source: BLS, Investor Acumen

One thing that emerges from this analysis is that a significant share of the deceleration of core CPI this month came from relatively volatile items, that might be considered "one-offs". For example, the significant decline in new and used car prices and health insurance may not be representative of core inflationary dynamics.

In Figure 5 below, we list the top 10 CPI components, at the most granular level, that contributed negatively and positively to the MoM acceleration (expressed in percent change) of All Items CPI. This indicates that housing inflation may possibly have peaked for this cycle and could be headed in a downward direction.

It is worthwhile to examine tables 4 and 5 above carefully as they are likely to include most or all of the items which surprised forecasters during the month.

Top Movers

In Figure 6 below, for general interest purposes, we show the components with the largest positive and negative MoM change (%). The YoY change in these particular components is to the right.

Figure 6: Top Movers MoM Percent Change

Top CPI Movers(BLS, Investor Acumen)

Source: BLS, Investor Acumen

Implications for Policy and Economic Performance

In this section, we review the potential implications of this month’s CPI report on policy (monetary & or fiscal) and the overall outlook for the US economy.

Impact on Policy. On the margin, this month’s deceleration of All-Items and Core CPI incrementally decreases pressure on the Fed to tighten overall financial conditions more than markets have expected. In fact, today’s numbers may tend to lower market expectations regarding how much (“terminal rate”), how fast and for how long the Fed may increase the Federal Funds interest rate.

Impact on Economic Performance. On the margin, the numbers may lead to speculation that inflation has peaked and is heading down in the intermediate term. This will take pressure off of interest rates across the economy such as mortgage interest rates. This could alleviate some of the headwinds that the economy has recently been experiencing, particularly in interest rate sensitive sectors.

Potential Financial Markets’ Impact

The CPI report, on the margin, will likely decrease risk perceptions regarding the probability of the Fed being forced to tighten monetary policy to a degree that would induce recession. In particular, market expectations of the Fed’s so-called “terminal rate” may decrease. This would cause the cost of financing across the economy to decrease and overall financial conditions to ease somewhat. This should provide a positive boost for both bond and equity markets.

This month's report may provide a “window of opportunity” for bonds and stocks to rise during the next month, until the next CPI report comes out.

I would caution that the internal details of this report, although generally positive, may not be quite as bullish as they appear on the surface. Much of the deceleration in both All-Items CPI and Core CPI was due to a few volatile components, which may not be representative of underlying inflationary trends. Still, this is the best news on inflation that the market has had in quite a while, and a significant relief rally in stocks and bonds can probably be expected.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
CPI: A Relief For Markets But Details Only Moderately Bullish
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nCPI: A Relief For Markets But Details Only Moderately Bullish\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-11 23:34 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryWe summarize key data and provide in-depth analysis of the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).All Items and Core CPI inflation were ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite",".DJI":"道琼斯",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4555901-cpi-relief-for-markets-but-only-moderately-bullish","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1129448010","content_text":"SummaryWe summarize key data and provide in-depth analysis of the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).All Items and Core CPI inflation were significantly below expectations. Results were significantly impacted by \"one-off\" results in a few volatile items.Overall, the report should be received with \"relief\" by bond and equity markets. A 1994 agreement underpinning Ukrainian security failed to prevent Russian aggression against its neighbour.Although Moscow and Kyiv both said on Wednesday that they had made progress on the terms of a deal, Ukrainian officials remain sceptical Russian President Vladimir Putin is fully committed to peace and worry that Moscow could be buying time to regroup its forces and resume its offensive.Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, told the Financial Times that any deal would involve “the troops of the Russian Federation in any case leaving the territory of Ukraine” captured since the invasion began on February 24 — namely southern regions along the Azov and Black Seas, as well as territory to the east and north of Kyiv.Ukraine would maintain its armed forces but would be obliged to stay outside military alliances such as Nato and refrain from hosting foreign military bases on its territory.Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that neutrality for Ukraine based on the status of Austria or Sweden was a possibility.“This option is really being discussed now, and is one that can be considered neutral,” said Peskov.Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, said that “absolutely specific wordings” were “close to being agreed” in the negotiations.Despite the progress in peace talks, Ukrainian cities came under heavy shelling for a third consecutive night while Kyiv said it was launching a counter-offensive against Russian invaders. In a virtual address to members of Congress on Wednesday, Zelensky pleaded for the US to enforce a no-fly zone or provide fighter jets or other means to fend off Russia’s attack on his country, and impose harsher economic sanctions on Moscow. In a dramatic appeal, Zelensky said Ukraine needed America’s support after Russia had launched a “brutal offensive against our values”. He called on Americans to remember the attacks on Pearl Harbor and of September 2001 and showed a searing video of the missile attacks and shelling destroying Ukrainian cities.Though Ukraine’s constitution commits it to seeking membership of Nato, Zelensky and his aides have increasingly played down Ukraine’s chances of joining the transatlantic military alliance, a prospect that Russia sees as a provocation.“There is no effective system of European security now, which would be moderated by Nato. As soon as a serious war began in Europe, Nato quickly stepped aside,” Podolyak said.“We propose a ‘Ukrainian model of security guarantees,’ which implies the immediate and legally verified participation of a number of guarantor countries in the conflict on the side of Ukraine, if someone again encroaches on its territorial integrity,” he added.Ukraine, Podolyak added, would as part of any deal “definitely retain its own army”. He also played down the significance of a ban on foreign bases in Ukraine, saying that was already precluded by Ukrainian law.Two of the people said the putative deal also included provisions on enshrining rights for the Russian language in Ukraine, where it is widely spoken though Ukrainian is the only official language. Russia has framed its invasion as an attempt to protect Russian speakers in Ukraine from what it claims is “genocide” by “neo-Nazis”.Podolyak said “humanitarian issues, including language issues, are discussed only through the prism of Ukraine’s exclusive interests”.The biggest sticking point remains Russia’s demand that Ukraine recognise its 2014 annexation of Crimea and the independence of two separatist statelets in the eastern Donbas border region.Ukraine has so far refused but is willing to compartmentalise the issue, Podolyak said.“Disputed and conflict territories [are] in a separate case. So far, we are talking about a guaranteed withdrawal from the territories that have been occupied since the start of the military operation on February 24,” when Russia’s invasion began, he said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":658,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9015753032,"gmtCreate":1649557275421,"gmtModify":1676534529700,"author":{"id":"3585044510958477","authorId":"3585044510958477","name":"Jer_Soul","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1e2cafce52f5cbb77f8b4a073c7be9a3","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585044510958477","idStr":"3585044510958477"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Great] ","listText":"[Great] ","text":"[Great]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9015753032","repostId":"2226207085","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2226207085","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1649462413,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2226207085?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-09 08:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Stocks That Turned $1,000 into $10,000 (or More)","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2226207085","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These top brands have made investors plenty since 2012.","content":"
\n
RH and Netflix have made their shareholders massive gains over the past 10 years. Despite a pandemic-driven crash in 2020 and the recent sell-off to start 2022, early investors in these top stocks are sitting on thousands of dollars in gains. But with RH and Netflix getting slammed by the market this year, are they still good stocks to buy? Let's have a look.RH data by YCharts.RHIt's difficult to imagine how a furniture company could turn $1,000 into $10,000 in less than 10 years, but that's the return RH delivered following its initial public offering in November 2012. At RH's all-time high last year, the value of that small investment would have been briefly worth $24,000. The recent drop in the share price could be a great opportunity to start a position in the fast-growing luxury furniture brand.RH is led by visionary CEO Gary Friedman. The company has expanded its luxurious furniture offerings to include a wide collection of solutions for different spaces, including RH Modern, RH Beach House, RH Ski House, RH Rugs, and more.Worries over supply-chain issues and inflationary costs have hit the stock hard. The shares are down 55% from their highs, but news of a three-for-one stock split and a better-than-expected earnings report at the end of March has investors feeling more upbeat.Indeed, RH reported a revenue increase of 11% year over year in the fiscal fourth quarter. That looks quite strong considering the economic headwinds. The Russia-Ukraine war is an additional headwind. The company cited some softening in demand to start the quarter in relation to that, but management's guidance still calls for revenue to grow between 7% and 8% in the first quarter.Investors don't have to pay much for growth. At a price-to-earnings ratio of 15, this growth retail stock is a great value at these levels. If the investment by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is any indication, RH still has many years of growth in store.NetflixIn 2012, Netflix was transitioning from DVD-by-mail to streaming. It launched its first original series House of Cards in early 2013. A $1,000 investment in early 2012 would be worth $23,000 even after the recent drop in the stock price.Wall Street has turned a cold shoulder to the leader in streaming after Netflix reported decelerating subscriber growth throughout 2021. Subscriber growth clocked in at 8.9% in the fourth quarter, which is a far cry from the 20%-plus rates it was posting through 2020.Still, Netflix is not done growing by a long shot. There are still plenty of connected TVs around the world without Netflix. The Motion Picture Association reported that the number of streaming subscribers globally grew 14% in 2021 to reach 1.3 billion. That is a nice tailwind for Netflix, sitting at 222 million subscribers. Ultimately, Netflix's vast library of content should help the service win more share of that massive global market.Streaming stocks are still attractive long-term investments. Wedbush’s Dan Ives, for example, has been talking about the market cap milestone since our conversation in Q3 of last year, at least.

But other analysts have also hopped on the bullish bandwagon recently. Morgan Stanley upped its price target to $200 per share in November, while the JPMorgan research team saw Apple stock heading to $3.5 trillion in market cap over the next 12 months.

One of the most vocal optimists came from the buy side. Loup’s Gene Munster thought that his previous price target had quickly become stale, and that $250 per share now seemed more reasonable. In his opinion, the multi-year opportunity in the metaverse will gain investor appreciation in the new year, which should reignite momentum that the stock had lost in the last few weeks of 2021.

AAPL: the bear case

Despite the upbeat expectations described above, mostly supported by company-specific factors, the market rolled into 2022 with its guard up. The boogieman of the moment seems to be the Federal Reserve’s anticipated reaction to near-full employment and sticky inflation, which should lead to higher interest rates in the next several months.

I have recently explained how tighter money supply can spell trouble for stocks that trade for relatively high multiples. While AAPL is no Tesla or Rivian, the stock’s forward P/E of nearly 30 times and only modest earnings growth expectations could be a drag for share price in 2022, as investors look for better deals in value and cyclical stocks.

The Apple Maven’s take

I continue to think that Apple is a great stock to buy and hold for the long term. Under the leadership of a CEO (and former COO) that is driven by operational excellence, the company seems to be in very good hands. Better yet, demand for Apple’s products and services, as well as consumer appreciation for the brand, seem to be at or near an all-time high.

That said, the setup for the first few weeks or months of 2022 looks challenging to me. Apple stock climbed relentlessly in 2020, and then again last year. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.

As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather. While shares will likely climb back above $3 trillion and head much higher from there eventually, I am not so confident that this rally will happen in the immediate future.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Can Apple Stock Reclaim $3 Trillion And Thrive In 2022?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nCan Apple Stock Reclaim $3 Trillion And Thrive In 2022?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-09 12:31 GMT+8 TheStreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
A market cap of $3 trillion has, so far, proven to be a ceiling that Apple stock does not seem ready to break through yet. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather. While shares will likely climb back above $3 trillion and head much higher from there eventually, I am not so confident that this rally will happen in the immediate future.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":210,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893083589,"gmtCreate":1628221094141,"gmtModify":1703503438291,"author":{"id":"3585044510958477","authorId":"3585044510958477","name":"Jer_Soul","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1e2cafce52f5cbb77f8b4a073c7be9a3","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585044510958477","idStr":"3585044510958477"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy
