In other words, it is a profitability ratio which measures the rate of return on the capital provided by the company's shareholders. The formula for return on equity is:  Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Venture is:9.5% = S$271m ÷ S$2.8b (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2023). The 'return' is the profit over the last twelve months.  So, this means that for every SGD1 of its shareholder's investments, the company generates a profit of SGD0.10.   What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?  So far, we've learned that ROE is a measure of a company's profitability. A Side By Side comparison of Venture's Earnings Growth And 9.5% ROE  At first glance, Venture's ROE doesn't look very promising.   However, given that the company's ROE is similar to the average industry ROE of 11%, we may spare it some thought.   Having said that, Venture's five year net income decline rate was 2.5%.
