Owning a car in Singapore is not necessary unless there are reasons for you to own one (i.e. having a family with young children, elderly parents, etc).

Of course some people have the [USD]  [USD]  [USD]  [USD]  to splurge on many carsssss...[Sly]  [Sly]  [Sly]  [Sly]  [Sly]  wish I am one of these people but sadly no...[Facepalm]  [Facepalm]  [Facepalm]

For a lazy bum bum  like me, better to not own  one because I would drive instead of walk [Silence]  [Silence]  [Silence]  (had experienced  before...) [Tongue]  [Tongue]  [Tongue]

Anyway, unless it's necessary, won't be owning one... If I do need a car then perhaps would rent instead of purchasing...

One of the perks of not owning a car is that I am forced to walk... and these walks can be a beautiful thing because I learned to enjoy sceneries, get close to nature, etc...

Yet again, if I strike rich [USD]  [USD]  [USD]  [Bless]  [Bless]  [Bless]  perhaps, maybe... [Grin]  [Grin]  [Grin]

COE Prices Rebound: Are You a Car Owner or Not?
On January 17th, Singapore's second round of COE (car certificate) prices surged past 100,000 Singapore dollars. Its volitility is comparable to the stock market. After reaching a peak in October 2023, prices declined from November to January. In 2024, there was a substantial drop in COE prices, some even returning to levels from two years ago. Some suggests Singapore has the world's highest car purchase costs. ---------- How do you view? Are you a car owner or ready to be? Or owning a car is not your plan?

this is the narrative that many have because under the coe scheme card have become so expensive because supply has been increasingly restricted. unless in the 1% most in there population have been priced out.
but what if a more equitable system replaces there current hybrid bidding system, can bid high but don't pay at the highest bid? will the narrative change?

true, like I have mentioned, unnecessarily till it becomes necessary... I do agree having a good transportation infrastructure does not mean every need is met... there are places in Singapore that are still not very accessible via public transport...

the total car coe issued in 2013 was 51k.  1st half of 2023 was 13k.

everyone has different needs for transportation. obviously you have yours. having good transportation infrastructure didn't mean every need is met.

in Singapore, the transport infrastructure is not too bad compared with other countries... thus, not really necessary to have one unless it becomes necessary...

I still think renting would be a better option (at least for me) don't have to be bothered about COE, etc...

the danger is that having a car makes me lazy... some people I know fall into this "trap" as well...
