$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Robotaxi Impact?

🚕🚖?

What will the impact be of Tesla’s Robotaxi?

Tesla will unveil its Robotaxi product on Aug. 8, CEO Elon Musk said in a social media post on X.At Tesla, “unveil” dates do not predict a near-future date for a commercial release of a new product. For example, Tesla unveiled its fully electric heavy-duty truck, the Semi, in 2017 and did not begin deliveries until December 2022. It still produces and sells very few Semis to this day. Will the Robotaxi be a repeat of this?

The public reception of Tesla's Robotaxi service is challenging, as it depends on various factors, including the service's reliability, safety, regulatory approvals, and consumer trust in autonomous technology.

Here are some considerations:

Reliability and Safety: The public's perception of Tesla's robo taxi service will likely be heavily influenced by its reliability and safety record. If the service proves to be dependable and operates without major incidents, it could receive positive reception.

Regulatory Environment: Regulatory approvals and guidelines for autonomous vehicles vary by region. Public acceptance may be influenced by how well Tesla navigates regulatory hurdles and addresses concerns about safety and liability.

Trust in Autonomous Technology: Consumer trust in autonomous technology is crucial. If Tesla can demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of its autonomous driving system through rigorous testing and real-world performance, it may boost public confidence in its robo taxi service.

Economic Factors: The affordability and convenience of Tesla's robo taxi service compared to traditional transportation options will also impact its public reception. If the service offers competitive pricing and seamless user experience, it may attract positive attention.Perception of Tesla: Public perception of Tesla as a company and its CEO, Elon Musk, could also influence the reception of its robo taxi service. Positive brand perception and a track record of innovation may contribute to acceptance.Ultimately, the success of Tesla's robo taxi service will depend on how well it addresses these factors and meets the needs and expectations of consumers. However, widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles may take time as society adjusts to this transformative technology.

The introduction of Tesla's robo taxi service could potentially disrupt the traditional taxi industry and impact taxi drivers' jobs. Some of the factors to consider:

Automation Impact: As Tesla's autonomous technology advances, there is a possibility that traditional taxi drivers (including Uber and similar), may face competition from self-driving vehicles. If Tesla's robo taxi service proves to be cost-effective and efficient, it could lead to a decrease in demand for human-operated taxis.

Transition Period: The transition to autonomous vehicles is likely to occur gradually over time, allowing taxi drivers to adapt and potentially transition to other roles within the transportation industry. However, there may be a period of adjustment as the market dynamics shift. Some may not be able to change into other roles easily.

Job Displacement: While some taxi drivers may find opportunities within the emerging autonomous vehicle industry, others may face displacement. It's crucial for policymakers and industry stakeholders to consider strategies for retraining and supporting affected workers during this transition.

New Opportunities: The introduction of autonomous vehicles could also create new job opportunities in areas such as vehicle maintenance, fleet management, and customer service roles related to the operation of robo taxi services. Overall, while the widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles may lead to changes in the taxi industry and impact jobs, the extent of these effects will depend on various factors, including technological advancements, regulatory developments, and societal acceptance of autonomous technology.

I hold some reservations regarding the concept of a driverless robo taxi. While the advancements in autonomous vehicle technology are undoubtedly impressive, the idea of entrusting one's safety entirely to a machine without human oversight evokes a sense of unease. Despite the assurances of rigorous testing and safety protocols, the potential for technical malfunctions or unforeseen circumstances remains a lingering concern. Additionally, the absence of a human driver removes the familiar element of human judgment and intervention, raising questions about the vehicle's ability to navigate complex situations effectively. While I acknowledge the potential benefits of such innovation, including increased efficiency and reduced accidents, I cannot overlook the inherent uncertainties and apprehensions associated with relinquishing control to a fully autonomous system.

I prefer to await the thorough testing and validation of the Robotaxi system before considering its adoption.

IDK, part of me thinks this announcement is all about the current share price rather than any real advance. And you still have the recharge time, which will disadvantage ev over combustion

Ya, im a peter beck lover, and elton… not so much. Peter is a genius, elton is a car salesman. Recharge times, first 50% is relatively fast, but then gets slow. Time to fully charge differs significantly depending on the charger, 30 mins is a reasonable baseline every 400 ish kms. But if i put on my tinfoil hat, im not a fan of EVs at all, you have to search extremely hard to find the “truth” because the truth is not reported. Carbon emissions for example are actually not i major issue, and are not actually a major cause of global warming. But im not going down that rabbit hole lol

Musk has to hype up something, he isn’t doing himself any favours anywhere. It’s most likely all over X, however I’m rarely on that platform. I’m not well informed on what recharge times for the Robotaxi will be or if there is any information yet.

It would! We have driverless buses operating in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown at present (some in a small area). A robotaxi would have to be a lot more convenient or a necessity to beat the price of a bus 😊

Would a robotaxi need to be built out of bamboo sticks to beat the price of a bus ticket.
