I opened $Global X Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF(QYLD)$  ,I bought QYLD as it provides me with a steady dividend income monthly. The current dividend yield is 11.78% paid monthly. QYLD uses a Covered Call Strategy which is normally the domain of Big institutions and traders on stocks in the Nasdaq 100 Index. QYLD has made monthly distributions 10 consecutive years.

Hi Koolgal, just copy/pasted the above in case u find it interesting. it seems to me that despite the high payouts...when accounting for its price decline...performance is flat at best...I wonder if for instance T-Bills would not be a better choice?

QYLD offers a high distribution yield, often around 11-12% annually, which is attractive for income-focused investors. However, the total return, which includes both capital appreciation and dividend payouts, tells a different story

I seek dividend income especially when the markets are volatile.

Ultimately it is the choice of an individual investor what the goal is.

When compared to other covered-call funds, such as the Eaton Vance and Nuveen funds, QYLD's total returns are less impressive. For instance, QYLD's performance has been flat (+0.7%) since January 2019, while other funds have shown better returns.

did you compare how much more would you have gained if you have shorted the stock and closed your positions as opposed to a covered call?
    • ParableTalenReplykoolgal
covered call is shorting and trading options.

My favourite way of investing is simply to buy and hold long term.

I am not into shorting stocks nor trade options.

      What are "csp" and "cc"?
    • koolgalReplyParableTalen
Thanks for sharing your point of view 😍😍😍
    • ParableTalenReplykoolgal
1 side of the coin: the worst scenario is price drops too much beyond your cost basis. the amount of premium will not be sufficient to hedge your unrealized losses. can your gains from the previous wheel strat cover this?
the effort you spent learning csp and cc could extend to learning technicals.
