$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ Well, my very first paycheck was mowing my grandmothers 1/4 acre section with a push mower. Took me over four hours but i got $10. That was 43 years ago, but $2.50 per hour back then was pretty fantastic for an 11yo. Oh wait, i had to weed her garden too, would have taken me 30 mins max, but each weed required approval from grandma to confirm it was a weed, so it took 2 hours. Funny the things you remember. And compulsory hot tea breaks, with snacks also reduced my hourly rate. But grandma was happy cause i spent the day with her, and mum was even happier cause i didn't spend the day with her, and i was happy, because i had $10 cold hard cash.
But what did i spend my loot on... well four lollies back then was 1 cent, so i purchased 400 lollies for $1. The other $9 i put in my bank account. But it doesn't end there...
See my friend who lived a few blocks away was right next to a grove of pine trees. I made a sled out of plywood gave him some sacks to fill with pine cones. The sled could hold two full sacks per trip, he got 25 lollies per trip. I sold the pine cones for $4 a sack down my street.
Key takeaways:
Sometimes, a dollar has less value than a desirable good to certain people. So pay them with their desire
bank your profits, but invest some of that profit in something else that will work even harder to increase your return
Footnote:
shortly after the 25 lollie thing for two sacks of pine cones, the word got out and i had 4 other people wanting to supply pine cones. even saying they would do it for 20 lollies. My very first business decision at 11 years old. So i told my mate i would pay him 30 lollies to just give the other guys 25 lollies to do the work. So are you following?
Now he got 20 lollies for way less effort, i get four times the supply, but sadly I can't sell all the pine cones, cause now i have too many.
I was 11, no HR department, no marketing department, no accounts manager, a seasonal product...
But that was my first paycheck, i bet you weren't expecting that
