I’m an avid reader—a real bookworm—and I wanted to share an interesting short story about Elon Musk.
There's a story from Musk's biography that illustrates his unique approach to business. One day, his assistant came to him and asked for a raise. She explained that she worked hard for him every day and felt it was time for more compensation. Musk, in his typical straightforward manner, responded, "Why don’t you take a month off and rest? Let’s see if I miss you, and if I do, I’ll consider the raise." After a month, the assistant returned to find that she had been fired. Why? Because Musk realized that the work was still getting done just fine without her. In fact, he discovered he could operate just as effectively on his own.
Later, during a charity event, Bill Gates confirmed this story. Gates was discussing a potential partnership with Musk on resource and land development. Gates told Musk to contact his assistant for further details. Musk replied, "Sorry, I don’t have an assistant anymore. I fired her. I’ll just call you myself."
