Why Blackstone’s AI Exposure Now Extends Far Beyond Technology Stocks

$Blackstone Group LP(BX)$’s second-quarter results show how the artificial-intelligence investment cycle is spreading from semiconductor companies into private infrastructure, real estate and credit. The opportunity is significant, but it also exposes Blackstone to the risk that data-centre development is becoming too aggressive.

Distributable earnings increased 26% year over year to $1.52 per share, exceeding the approximately $1.35 analysts expected. Blackstone attracted nearly $70 billion of quarterly inflows, lifting assets under management to $1.35 trillion. Blackstone’s July 23 earnings release provides the reported results.

The firm’s AI exposure includes data centres, electricity generation, transmission infrastructure and financing for companies building digital capacity. Gains associated with AI investments contributed to the quarterly performance, according to Reuters’ results report.

The bullish thesis is that AI infrastructure requires enormous amounts of long-term capital. Blackstone can participate through multiple channels without depending on a single chip or software winner. Fee-generating assets also produce recurring management revenue, while successful realisations create performance fees.

The risks are concentration, leverage and community resistance. Data centres require extensive power and water resources, potentially delaying projects or increasing costs. Blackstone’s CEO said on July 23 that the firm is addressing local concerns surrounding its AI infrastructure. Higher interest rates can also make leveraged acquisitions less profitable and reduce the market value of existing real-estate and private-equity holdings.

BX Weekly Chart

$Blackstone Group LP(BX)$ rose to $129 on July 23 before closing at $124.50.

BX’s weekly chart is approaching a technically important decision point, with price compressing inside a symmetrical triangle while simultaneously testing the long-term descending trendline and the $129–$133 resistance zone. A decisive weekly close above $133, ideally supported by stronger volume and followed by a successful retest, would confirm a bullish breakout and could open a move toward approximately $145–$150, followed by the prior swing region near $158–$162.

Because the stock is still pressing into resistance, buying calls before confirmation carries a meaningful false-breakout risk; the cleaner setup would be a 60–90 DTE $130/$150 call debit spread entered only after a confirmed close above $133. Traders preferring premium collection could instead wait for the breakout and sell a defined-risk $120/$110 bull put spread, positioning the short strike beneath the rising support line. A weekly rejection from the current zone or a break below roughly $115–$118 would weaken the bullish structure and raise the risk of a return toward $105–$110.

The evidence leans moderately bullish because inflows, assets and distributable earnings are growing together. The view would be invalidated by slowing fundraising, declining realisations or evidence that data-centre projects are being cancelled because of financing, power or permitting constraints. QQQ Drops 1.9%: Will Capex Anxiety or Surging Oil Prices Blink First?
QQQ fell 1.90% as tech earnings capex concerns collided with spiking oil prices and geopolitical risk from Houthi disruptions, pressuring the Nasdaq. Initial jobless claims hit their lowest since 1969, but the strong labor print reinforced expectations that the Fed will not rush to cut rates in September. Broad-based Mag-7 profit-taking served as the primary drag. With both "AI spending overhang" and "higher-for-longer rates" narratives weighing simultaneously, is this pullback a healthy rotation or the start of a trend shift?
