Is it too late for President Trump?
A massive $SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(SPY)$ reversal could come if Trump changes course and makes the election about one issue above all else: affordability.
Six policy moves could change the trajectory:
1️⃣ Make affordability the only message
Gas, groceries, rent and insurance.
Every rally, every speech and every post should come back to the cost of living. Nothing else cuts through with swing voters as effectively.
2️⃣ Pause tariffs on consumer staples
Temporarily pause or exempt tariffs on food, clothing, electronics and other everyday goods through year-end.
Voters would feel the difference at checkout within weeks, while removing one of Democrats' strongest lines of attack.
3️⃣ Avoid a government shutdown
Funding runs out on September 30.
A shutdown just five weeks before the election would hand Democrats a ready-made “chaos” narrative.
4️⃣ Push energy prices lower before November
Use the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, fast-track energy permits and put pressure on producers to increase supply.
Gas prices remain one of the most visible economic numbers for American voters.
5️⃣ Get out of the way in purple districts
Let vulnerable House Republicans run local campaigns instead of turning every race into a national referendum on Trump.
The White House should concentrate its political firepower on turnout in red states with competitive Senate races.
6️⃣ Fully embrace early and mail voting
Fund the ground game and make sure Republican voters bank their votes early.
The 2022 midterms showed the cost of discouraging early voting. Republicans need to compete on the same playing field rather than fight the voting system itself.
The election may not be lost yet.
But if Trump wants a major $SPY reversal in political sentiment, the message probably needs to become much simpler:
Lower prices. No shutdown. No chaos. Win the economy.
