Three Charts to Watch as the Macro Tailwinds Fade

The macro backdrop is shifting. Monetary easing that helped support global growth in 2026 could give way to tighter policy in 2027, while persistent inflation may keep bond yields higher for longer.

But a tougher macro environment doesn't mean opportunities are disappearing. It may simply change where investors need to look.

1. The Monetary Tailwind Is Fading

One of the key reasons global growth has proved so resilient this year is the lagged impact of previous monetary easing.

That support is now starting to fade. More central banks are pivoting toward rate hikes, raising the prospect that 2027 begins with monetary headwinds rather than the tailwinds that helped carry markets through 2026.

The shift matters: a less accommodative policy backdrop could make it harder for growth and risk assets to sustain their recent momentum.

2. Sticky Inflation Could Keep Bond Yields Higher for Longer

The challenge is that inflation may take much longer to return to lower levels without a major deflationary shock.

If underlying inflation remains persistent, investors betting on a sustained decline in bond yields may have to wait longer than expected. A repricing of rate expectations could also keep financial conditions tighter, reinforcing the macro headwinds.

In other words, the transition away from monetary easing may not be accompanied by the bond-market relief some investors are counting on.

3. LatAm Equities Still Trade at a Discount

Against this backdrop, Latin American equities stand out as a potential source of value.

The region has already seen a sharp rally, with Brazil gaining around 20% over the past two weeks. Yet Latin American equities, as a group, still trade at a substantial discount to their own long-term valuation averages and to peer markets.

That doesn't guarantee further gains, especially if tighter monetary conditions weigh on risk appetite. But the valuation gap suggests the recent rally may not have exhausted the opportunity.

The Bigger Picture

The common thread across all three charts is a changing investment environment. The monetary support that helped global markets is weakening, inflation could keep yields elevated, and investors may need to be more selective about where they take risk.

For Latin American equities, the case rests on a different factor: valuation. Even after a strong rally, the region still trades at a discount.

As macro tailwinds fade, the question may be less about whether markets can keep rising across the board, and more about which markets still have room to rerate.
