Tesla will report earnings after the close on January 26th. Can it make new all-time highs after the report?$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$Let's briefly review the Q3 financial report
Tesla reported impressive third-quarter results: Revenue soared 58% year over year to $12.1 billion, operating cash flow jumped 31% to $3.1 billion, and net income came in at $1.6 billion, marking Tesla's ninth consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability. This performance is made all the more impressive because Tesla is dealing with broader market supply chain chaos and semiconductor shortages. Now, we will take a look below at what both the street and retail investors are expecting for the quarterly results.
Tesla Q4 2021 deliveries
As usual, Tesla already disclosed its Q4 vehicle delivery and production numbers, which drives the vast majority of the company’s revenue.Earlier this month, Tesla increased its overall electric car production in Q4 by about 70% year-over-year to 305,840, which is the best result ever. The growth is related to the high production of the Model 3/Model Y (up 79% to 292,731), as the refreshed Model S/Model X duo is in the ramp-up phase (down 19% to 13,109).That’s a new record! The result for the year 2021 exceeds 930,000, which is a huge increase over 2020 ,which is significantly exceeding the previously delivery forecast 800,000 vehicles.
Tesla Q4 2021 revenue
For revenue, analysts generally have a pretty good idea of what to expect thanks to the delivery numbers. According to the data from bloomberg, The Wall Street consensus for this quarter is $16.599 billion. For Q4 2021, the Wall Street consensus is a gain of $2.309 per share.
Tesla always attempts to be marginally profitable every quarter as it invests most of its money into growth, and it has been successful doing so over the last two years now. Asuming Tesla’s average selling price is $50,000, the car sales revenue is roughly 15.4 billion. According to historical data, revenue from energy and maintenance services is around 1 billion, adding up to around 16.4 billion. Coupled with the revenue from carbon credits and energy, I think Tesla may beat the Wall Street consensus.
Other expectations for the TSLA shareholder’s letter and analyst call
As usual, the focus is on growth, which is mostly going to come from Tesla’s two new factories, Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas. Both factories are supposed to be producing vehicles by the end of the year, and a status update would be appreciated even though Tesla recently provided those at its shareholder’s meeting and Giga Fest in Germany.
Last year, CEO Elon Musk announced that he wouldn’t attend the earnings conference call anymore. However, Musk said last month that he would be attending the next call to give a “product roadmap update”.An update on the planned timing of the start of production could also be part of the road update. Tesla previously stated that production of the Cybertruck should start around the end of 2022.As for other products on the roadmap, Tesla is also expected to give an update on Tesla Semi.
Full Self-Driving System is also one of the biggest stories at Tesla right now, and financially, it is an interesting one.Elon Musk announced that the price of the Full Self-Driving system will soon be raised from $10,000 to $12,000 and that additional increases can be expected as it is developed with new capabilities. The automaker has already been selling the package for years, but it hasn’t been recognizing all the revenue from it since it has yet to deliver the full features.
