$Sea Ltd(SE)$extracted from a twitter thread of key takeaways from @bjornng who attended SEA's AGM:
I attended the $SE AGM earlier today.
Answers were general, but Forrest Li's closing speech was what hit the homerun for me.
He talked about how Sea Limited has created new opportunities/experiences in developing countries like Indonesia.
Here are 6 of my key takeaways:
1/ Garena
In Indonesia, not everyone has access to expensive phones or computers, especially in rural areas.
Garena has created a low barrier of entry for Free Fire in a way where even $100-$200 mobile phones can enjoy a smooth gaming experience.
2/ Shopee
Even just 1 hour from the city center of Jakarta, there are only small mom & pop shops. It's not easy to find certain items.
Shopee has opened up the barriers for consumers in rural areas to create businesses and provide an alternative shopping experience for them.
3/ Sea Money
Sea Money is able to loan small sums like $50 to consumers.
If these consumers were to go to the bank, they would be rejected immediately.
For some families, this can actually elevate some huge burdens of them.
4/ Deploying the same playbook in other countries
We've seen how Sea Limited has succeeded in Indonesia where e-commerce penetration rate is low.
And with all these know-how from Southeast Asia, why not take this knowledge and apply it in Latin America?
5/ Football
Forrest Li used a football game analogy to describe Sea Ltd.
There are different roles/positions, but sometimes a striker has to be a defender, vice versa.
But at the end of the day, it's all about fighting towards the same purpose, winning the game.
6/ Right Heart, Right Place
From hearing Forrest Li speak, I feel that his heart is at the right place.
His purpose of starting Sea Limited remains the same & strong - which is to open up opportunities for consumers who might not have the luxury based on where they are.
