Intel has announced the Sapphire Rapids (Eagle Stream) processors, which includes 52 models divided into two categories: dual-socket models for higher performance and mainstream use, and specialized models for liquid-cooled, single-socket, networking, cloud, HPC, and storage/HCI systems.
After multiple delays spanning the last two years, Sapphire Rapids has finally been released. However, some industry analysts believe that the launch does not live up to the prolonged wait!
According to Omdia analyst Manoj Sukumaran's take on the impact of the Sapphire Rapids delays, the delays in Intel's CPU releases have already caused a ripple effect on the entire supply chain. Those missteps have opened the door for AMD, and AMD has certainly taken advantage!
Now, despite the long wait, Intel's new product’s performance still lags behind that of AMD! While the Intel Data Center GPU Max Series is powerful, many believe that AMD's recent MI300 announcement outperforms it.
In comparison to AMD's Genoa product lines, Sapphire Rapids may have slightly lower specifications and peak performance. As such, I think it is very likely AMD could continue to gain market share due to better pricing and performance.
