A romantic theme stock, please.

Valentine's Day beckons, and millions of men and women will be on the lookout for that perfect romantic gift to celebrate the occasion.

Usually, that translates into gifts like jewelry, flowers, chocolates, or maybe a trip.

But if you're looking for the gift that should really show you care, how about buying shares of stocks for your romantic partner? More specifically, why not buy shares of companies with a romantic theme, say a flower delivery firm or brand-name jewelry retailer?

Personally, I think "romantic" stocks-as-gifts is a great idea. Giving stocks is a creative idea, but should be weighed against the recipient's love for traditional Valentine's Day gifts.

If you want to be unconventional this February 14, a few profitable shares of a company Wall Street loves, too, can leave the recipient with more affection - and respect - than a vase of flowers that will wilt away in one week's time.
