Money or Passion: Which Matters More in Your Stock Trading?

It is said that the dopamine release triggered by stock trading is much higher than that from regular recreational activities. Some people trade stocks purely out of passion, enjoying the sense of achievement and excitement that trading brings. Others trade stocks primarily to make money, as there are alternative side hustles that can also generate income. Of course, these two aspects cannot be entirely separated—it's just the relative importance of each that differs.

In stock trading, both money and passion play important roles, but their importance depends on your goals and approach. Here’s a breakdown of each: Money: The Foundation Money is the tool that enables you to participate in the stock market. • Why Money is Important: 1. Capital: Without money, you cannot invest or trade. 2. Risk Management: Sufficient capital allows for diversification and the ability to absorb losses without catastrophic consequences. 3. Scaling Up: Larger amounts of money provide more opportunities to achieve significant returns. However, focusing only on money can lead to short-term thinking, excessive risk-taking, and emotional decision-making if you’re solely chasing profits. Passion: The Driver Passion for stock trading, financial markets, or investment strategies can

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ Definitely MONEY!  I won't call it stock trading as it sound very speculative but I will term it as stock investment - a good old way to accumulate wealth over time.  When you gain the MONEY - that's when you can spend in things that you are passionate about - like travelling, food and contribute to charity.

Money or Passion: Which Matters More in Your Stock Trading?

Jessica Steinmetz, the Clinical Director at Safe Foundation in New York, stated that currently, around 10% of patients are seeking help for “trading addiction,” something that was virtually unheard of before 2020.This group of people is primarily addicted to meme stocks like $GameStop(GME)$ and $Trump Media & Technology(DJT)$, as well as 24/7 cryptocurrency trading. Money or Passion: The Eternal Dilemma of the Stock Trader

I sat back in my leather chair, the warm glow of my trading monitors reflecting off a glass of single malt perched delicately beside me. The day’s charts had been a symphony of green and red, the heartbeat of the markets pulsing with its usual intoxicating rhythm. Yet, even as I reviewed my trades—a mix of swift victories and the occasional humbling defeat—an age-old question nagged at the edge of my mind: In stock trading, what truly matters more—money or passion? It’s a debate as old as the markets themselves, whispered in the corners of trading floors and debated over drinks at exclusive investor summits. And today, my dear readers, we shall dive headfirst into this conundrum. The Thrill of the Trade: Passion as a Driving Force There are those among us who trade for the sheer love of it

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ When it comes to stock trading, the debate between money and passion often divides traders into two camps. On one hand, money represents the ultimate goal—profits, financial freedom, and wealth accumulation. On the other, passion symbolizes the driving force—curiosity, discipline, and a genuine love for markets. Which matters more? The answer lies in striking the right balance. The Case for Money: The Ultimate Measure of Success Trading is a Business Stock trading is not a hobby—it’s a business. Success is measured in profits and returns, not emotional satisfaction. Consistent profits are what sustain traders over the long term, allowing them to grow portfolios and reinvest in their strategies. Risk-Reward Analysis Every trad

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$  The Trader's Dilemma: Money vs. Passion In the world of stock trading, the age-old debate of money versus passion takes on a unique dimension. While the pursuit of financial gain is the primary motivator for many, the role of passion in achieving trading success is often overlooked. So, which matters more: the allure of profit or the intrinsic drive of passion? The smart answer, as in most things, lies in a nuanced understanding of their interplay. The Primacy of Profit: The Objective Reality Let's be clear: the fundamental purpose of trading is to make money. Without a focus on profitability, trading becomes a hobby, not a sustainable endeavor. The market is a harsh teacher, and sentimentality rarely yields positive re

Stock Trading: My Arcade of Adrenaline and Strategy 🎮💹

Stock Trading: My Arcade of Adrenaline and Strategy 🎮💹 For me, stock trading is not just about making money—it’s an exhilarating arcade where I can test my strategy and skill. I approach it with a mindset of risk management, only trading with money I can afford to lose. This ensures that my happiness and peace of mind are never compromised. Unlike some who trade for purely financial gain, I treat it as a recreational pursuit that keeps me engaged and excited about the markets. A Passion Rooted in Strategy and Winning 💼♟️ Having been a chess player in my younger years, I find that the strategy and problem-solving aspects of trading resonate deeply with me. Every trade feels like a move in a chess game—an opportunity to analyze, predict, and outmaneuver the market. This background gives me t

🎯 Money or Passion? A Trader’s Perspective 🚀 Kia ora Tiger Traders! Trading is both an art and a science, a delicate balance between passion and purpose. For myself, the motivation is about 70% financial growth and 30% the intellectual thrill of decoding the market’s patterns. It’s like piecing together an intricate puzzle 🧩 where each stock’s pattern offers a clue to its next move. Patterns are my compass, guiding me to identify potential price action and pinpoint lower-risk entries and exits. They don’t just reveal numbers, they tell a story about market sentiment and behaviour, often outpacing fundamentals. After all, while balance sheets provide the rearview mirror, patterns give you the GPS for what’s ahead.🛰️ I’ve especially loved diving into small-cap stocks recently, particularly d

Money or Passion - Which is more important in trading?

🌟🌟🌟My goal of investing is to make money which will be used to achieve my ultimate of FIRE - Financial Independence Retire Early.  Money is the key to giving me more time to pursue my dream goal of travelling the world, exploring new cities, eating different cuisines and making new friends.  In other words Money is more about freedom and having more time to experience life to the fullest.  Money is a means to an end for me.  Passion can be defined as enthusiasm, zeal or fervour for something we like to do.  Passion for me means having the interest and energy to research my stocks and ETFs.  Spending time learning to be a better investor.  It is not so much about trading daily, staying awake watching the markets.  I am more of an investor than a trade

Money may well be the main driving force for many, unless you've Decided to approach your Trading / Investing from a differently Perspective.  Passion : The Latin origin of passion is " pati " meaning "suffer " Or strong liking or enthusiasm or strong feeling that clearly helps when obstacles are encountered, however , Trading & or investing should not be based on feelings or emotions. The approach taken could however be fourfold: 1. Driven by the pursuit of Money. 2.Driven by the pursuit of passion and or emotion. 3.Driven by Fundame

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ When it comes to stock trading, the debate between money and passion is a common one. Both are important, but they serve different purposes in a trader's journey. Money is often the primary motivator for many traders. The potential for profit is what draws people to the stock market in the first place. After all, trading is about generating wealth, and without the desire for financial gain, there's little incentive to take on the risks involved. However, focusing solely on money can lead to emotional decision-making, impulsive trades, and ultimately, losses. Passion, on the other hand, can be a more sustainable driver. A passion for learning about markets, understanding the intricacies of different stocks, or developing stra

To me, trading is about making money. However, I’m passionate to learn, research and share from my knowledge acquired. Trading is believed to be the most difficult profession as it requires discipline, consistency and patience. The toughest person to control is ourselves. I day trade everyday to feel the market sentiments and understand the tickers I’m working on. Trading is like dating, we get to know their personalities after awhile and ride the momentum together, but never get married to a stock ever! 😂 I’m interested to study the economic news, earnings calendar, geopolitical issues, Fed announcements, options flow, open interest, candlesticks and chart patterns to help justify my risks and rewards whenever I enter a day or swing trade as well as the appropriate time to exit to de-ri

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ To me, it is money. In another word, it is achieving my yearly KPI of $xxK of dividends generated from SG stocks. In such a way, the dividends will be my living expenses and not tapping onto my saving.  I don't venture much into US stocks, even though it is fast making money, as I have an almost equal amount of ESSP (in SGD) as to that of SG stocks. Hence, I m trying to dispose ESSP asap. The last round I did was in 2021. Thereafter, I forgotten about it 🤦‍♀️[Facepalm]  as I was crazy pursuiting 🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️[Grin]  [LOL]  [Happy]  [Smile] [Chuckle]  my SG dividends. No, I don't trade every day because my focus is more on mid- to long-term investments. Daily volatility isn't a concern for me; I prefer to evaluate stocks based on their long-term potential rather than short-term fluctuations. For me, trading is primarily about making money. While I may enjoy the process to some extent, my motivation comes from the financial rewards. If I lose money, the passion fades, as there's no excitement in losses. However, when I make money, it fuels my interest and motivates me to continue learning. So, making money drives me, and the passion follows from those successes. I think this is the difference between me and more passionate traders. For some, passion and profit are linked, creating a positive cycle. But for me, it’s mainly about financial goals, and tradi

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$  In stock trading, both money and passion matter, but their importance depends on my goals and approach: 1. Money: • Stock trading is fundamentally about growing wealth. A clear financial plan and risk management are essential. • Without adequate capital, the ability to trade effectively is limited. Protecting and growing my money should be the primary focus. 2. Passion: • Passion drives me to continuously learn, stay disciplined, and remain engaged even when the market is challenging. • Successful trading often requires curiosity, patience, and resilience—traits fueled by genuine interest. Conclusion: Let money be your goal and passion your guide. Use your enthusiasm to sharpen your skills, but always trade with fi

We trade stocks for Money and Passion. The dopamine release triggered by stock trading is very high and that makes stock trading an addictive activity. It is good news if one’s main motivation to trade is only to make money because there are other activities that one can make money without involving risk. It is risky when one trade stocks purely out of passion, enjoying the sense of achievement and excitement that trading brings. This high level of desire to “win the market” would affect one’s sense of judgement and discipline. It is very dangerous to be addicted to stock trading. I hope all my Tiger friends exercise discipline in their stock trading, making thorough research before trading any particular stock. Remember to DYODD i.e. Do Your Own Due Diligence, before each trade. Thanks
