feature an app store that lets developers keep 100% of the revenue from sales of their apps.
\n
That’s a massive departure from the policies Apple and Google have in place that require app developers who use their stores to pay 30% fees on the sale of apps and in-app purchases.
\n
“Windows has always stood for sovereignty for creators and agency for consumers,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said. “A platform can only serve society if its rules allow for this foundational innovation and category creation. It’s why we’re introducing new store commerce models and policies.”
\n
The move is certain to rankle executives at both Apple and Google, which are facing antitrust investigations into their app store practices.
\n
Apple is awaiting a ruling in an antitrust case brought by Epic Games, in which the “Fortnite” developer accused the iPhone maker of abusing its market power over the App Store by forcing developers to use its own payment system and fork over the associated fees.
\n
Google, meanwhile, faces a similar lawsuit from Epic and is expected to get slapped with a lawsuit from a collection of state attorneys general for its app store policies.
\n
Microsoft has been criticizing Apple’s policies
\n
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has called out its rivals and their app stores. The company has criticized Apple’s policies in the past, specifically Apple’s policy of taking a share of revenue from Microsoft apps purchased through the Apple App Store.
\n
More recently, Microsoft sparred with Apple over its desire to get its xCloud cloud gaming platform onto the iPhone via a native app. Apple has pushed back, hampering Microsoft’s cloud gaming ambitions and forcing it to make users rely on a browser-style app.
\n
That led Microsoft to meet and lodge a complaint with members of the House Antitrust Subcommittee during the body’s investigation into Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook.
\n
Microsoft has debuted the latest version of its Windows operating system: Windows 11. (Image: Microsoft)Microsoft
\n
Microsoft also took aim at Apple in the iPhone maker’s battle with “Fortnite” developer Epic Games. In that instance, Microsoft filed a statement of support for Epic in its fight to prevent Apple withholding iOS support for Epic’s Unreal Engine.
\n
Epic initially sued Apple and Google after the two companies removed “Fornite” from their respective app stores. Apple and Google argue that Epic implemented an update that added a separate payment system allowing consumers to circumvent Apple or Google’s payment services. That effectively cut out Apple and Google’s 30% app store fees.
\n
Epic’s fight with Apple wrapped up earlier this month and a ruling is expected before the end of the summer.
\n
Microsoft could win over developers
\n
With its decision to allow developers to use their own payment systems, Microsoft is sending a signal to the global developer community that it is willing to play by their rules. That could help the company as it seeks to build out its app store and drive more business for Windows.
\n
While Microsoft was caught flat-footed in the smartphone wars, its moves with the Windows 11 Microsoft Store could give it the kind of boost from developers that it needs to begin taking market share from Apple and Google in the fight for app store supremacy. It’s now up to Apple and Google to respond.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Microsoft sent a strong signal to developers that could hurt Apple and Google
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nMicrosoft sent a strong signal to developers that could hurt Apple and Google\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-25 17:52 GMT+8 Yahoo Finance\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Microsoft (MSFT) launched a broadside against rivals Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL) on Thursday, announcing that the next version of Windows, called Windows 11, will feature an app store that ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"QNETCN":"纳斯达克中美互联网老虎指数","GOOG":"谷歌","09086":"华夏纳指-U","MSFT":"微软","03086":"华夏纳指","GOOGL":"谷歌A","AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/microsoft-app-store-revenue-google-apple-200213646.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2146023165","content_text":"Microsoft (MSFT) launched a broadside against rivals Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL) on Thursday, announcing that the next version of Windows, called Windows 11, will feature an app store that lets developers keep 100% of the revenue from sales of their apps.\nThat’s a massive departure from the policies Apple and Google have in place that require app developers who use their stores to pay 30% fees on the sale of apps and in-app purchases.\n“Windows has always stood for sovereignty for creators and agency for consumers,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said. “A platform can only serve society if its rules allow for this foundational innovation and category creation. (Image: Microsoft)Microsoft\nMicrosoft also took aim at Apple in the iPhone maker’s battle with “Fortnite” developer Epic Games. In that instance, Microsoft filed a statement of support for Epic in its fight to prevent Apple withholding iOS support for Epic’s Unreal Engine.\nEpic initially sued Apple and Google after the two companies removed “Fornite” from their respective app stores. Apple and Google argue that Epic implemented an update that added a separate payment system allowing consumers to circumvent Apple or Google’s payment services. That effectively cut out Apple and Google’s 30% app store fees.\nEpic’s fight with Apple wrapped up earlier this month and a ruling is expected before the end of the summer.\nMicrosoft could win over developers\nWith its decision to allow developers to use their own payment systems, Microsoft is sending a signal to the global developer community that it is willing to play by their rules. That could help the company as it seeks to build out its app store and drive more business for Windows.\nWhile Microsoft was caught flat-footed in the smartphone wars, its moves with the Windows 11 Microsoft Store could give it the kind of boost from developers that it needs to begin taking market share from Apple and Google in the fight for app store supremacy. It’s now up to Apple and Google to respond.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":39,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":126833111,"gmtCreate":1624550485133,"gmtModify":1703840225495,"author":{"id":"3555064787466669","authorId":"3555064787466669","name":"LuckyLion","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6a69edf26fa15174d445529f2a9e87d3","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555064787466669","authorIdStr":"3555064787466669"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Awesome","listText":"Awesome","text":"Awesome","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/126833111","repostId":"1187819280","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1187819280","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624529642,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1187819280?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-24 18:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The ‘shelter in suburbia’ trade is about to reverse — and these stocks will suffer","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1187819280","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"5 reasons the pandemic megatrend is over.\n\nOne of the biggest investment stories of the COVID-19 pan","content":"
\n 5 reasons the pandemic megatrend is over.\n
\n
One of the biggest investment stories of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the boom in consumer discretionary stocks with a “shelter in suburbia” theme. From e-commerce platforms to home improvement stores to furniture and housewares merchants, many of the top performers have fit this flavor.
\n
Take the broad-based Vanguard Consumer Discretionary Index Fund ETF VCR, +0.66% that surged more than 90% from March 2020 to March 2021. That was thanks to components like home improvement stocks Lowe’s LOW, -0.30% and Home Depot HD, -0.33% alongside retailers like TJX TJX, -0.08%.
\n
Lately, however, performance has started to lag for many of these names. In fact, since April 1 we’ve seen these three stocks all drift slightly into the red even as the S&P 500 SPX, -0.11% has tacked on about 6% in the same period.
\n
And some fear that may only be the beginning. As one Wall Street insider said recently in a Bloomberg interview, a “huge unwind” is coming for stay-at-home stocks, including hardware stores and home-goods merchants.
\n
While some big-name “suburbia” trades are still relatively stable, signs of trouble are already emerging at the fringes. Century Communities CCS, -0.34% and Dream Finders Homes DFH, -2.55%, two mid-tier single family homebuilders, have seen shares crash by double digits over the last month. On the furnishings side, appliance giant Whirlpool Corporation WHR, -0.51% and department store Nordstrom JWN, +2.03% are down sharply from their spring highs.
\n
Here are five big reasons why:
\n
1. The upgrade cycle is over
\n
Last summer, white-collar workers who were stuck at home made note of overdue projects and took advantage of being able to easily meet with contractors. But in many ways, this growth is not sustainable.
\n
Consider the kind of purchases homeowners were making according to data from the NPD Group. Faucets, kitchen cabinets and even toilets were among the most popular products sold in 2020. Needless to say, even the most profligate homeowners aren’t going to follow this upgrade cycle of remodeling kitchens and bathrooms on an annual basis.
\n
The same is true for furniture and other home goods. Internet giant Comscore recorded the highest visitation to related websites in history in May 2020 with 133 million web surfers shopping for some kind of home goods. Once again, a new couch or lamp is not an annual purchase — so this trend seems unsustainable for much longer.
\n
2. Valuations are stretched
\n
Speaking of post-pandemic peaks for home-goods purveyors, we’ve seen the financials bear out these big increases via boosted profits and sales. However, we’ve also seen the stock of many related merchants surge even more — stretching their valuations from historical norms.
\n
Take TJX. Currently this discount retailer has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of more than 26, compared with a forward P/E of just 21 in spring 2020. Its trailing price-to-sales ratio is now 2.1 compared with 1.4.
\n
What’s more, valuations for previous darlings like TJX are out of line with peers, too. Consider the forward P/E of the overall S&P 500 index is 22 right now, and other similar names like Macy’s M, +0.70% and Big Lots BIG, -3.71% actually have forward P/E ratios well under 10. You can argue TJX is unique, of course… but you also may want to be aware of what “fair value” looks like for many other stocks outside fashionable stay-at-home trades right now.
\n
3. Delays and shortages
\n
Future growth from pandemic-fueled peaks in these stocks is not impossible, of course. But given supply chain disruptions it seems highly unlikely. There are a host of reasons for these delays, including overseas shipping delays as well as capacity and output crunches that are affecting many industries, but “stay at home” stocks seem particularly hard hit.
\n
Home improvement products are simply nowhere to be found, with roughly 94% of builders reporting “at least some serious shortages of appliances” according to the National Association of Home Builders. Another 93% are running short on framing lumber and 87% say it is hard to obtain windows and doors.
\n
Even if you can get past demand concerns, without the raw materials to get to work it’s very hard to see future growth in this category.
\n
4. Inflationary pressures
\n
For the people who haven’t already ponied up the cash for a contractor or made their peace with extended delays for their expensive new furniture, there is a pretty big disincentive right now for new shoppers: inflation.
\n
The cost of living as measured by the Consumer Price Index jumped 0.6% in May to run at a 5% annual rate. That was not only higher than expectations, but the fastest pace since the summer of 2008. The inflation risks were so pronounced that the Federal Reserve publicly stated it could move up the schedule for expected interest rate increases to keep the risks under wraps.
\n
Inflation isn’t always a death knell, of course. But it has historically eroded purchasing power and could curtail some of the spending in “stay at home” stocks that we’ve seen in the last year or so.
\n
5. Home-equity hubris
\n
Speaking of red-hot inflation: In May, the median price for U.S. homes topped $350,000 for the first time ever — up 23.6% from 2020. What’s more, a Realtor.com survey showed roughly a third of selling homeowners expect to get more than their asking price, and roughly the same amount expect an offer within a week of listing.
\n
Some of this is justifiable. Many articles have been written in recent years about the dearth of supply in attractive markets, and it’s important to acknowledge the remote work of the pandemic has indeed created some disruptive introspection into why people live where they do.
\n
But here’s where things get dicey: homeowners who have already spent the expected premium on their home’s price well in advance. According to Freddie Mac, about $152.7 billion in equity loans were taken out on U.S. houses last year, a massive increase of 41.7% from 2019 and the highest refinancing cash-out dollar amount since 2007.
\n
Anyone remember what happened to the real-estate market in 2007? Or the similar sense of seller entitlement from those days? There’s no clear signs of a bubble bursting just yet, but there’s real risk American homeowners may be overly optimistic about what their homes are worth — and a chance this home equity loan free-for-all simply isn’t sustainable for much longer.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The ‘shelter in suburbia’ trade is about to reverse — and these stocks will suffer
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe ‘shelter in suburbia’ trade is about to reverse — and these stocks will suffer\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-24 18:14 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
5 reasons the pandemic megatrend is over.\n\nOne of the biggest investment stories of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the boom in consumer discretionary stocks with a “shelter in suburbia” theme. The market's interest in the data mining firm was muted at first, but its stock skyrocketed to $45 per share during the Reddit-fueled rally in late January.
\n
I sold a third of my position at the time to take out my original investment, then held on to the rest as Palantir's stock tumbled back to the high teens. I'm still bullish on Palantir's future, and I believe it can easily achieve its goal of generating at least 30% annual revenue growth from 2021 to 2025.
\n
That being said, I think it's still important for bullish investors to recognize Palantir's weaknesses. So today, I'll take a look at five red flags that might limit Palantir's near-term gains.
\n
1. All that red ink
\n
Palantir generated $1.09 billion in revenue in 2020, but it posted a whopping net loss of $1.17 billion.
\n
In the first nine months of 2021, its revenue rose 44% year over year to $1.11 billion, while its net loss narrowed from $1.02 billion to $364 million. That might seem like a major improvement, but investors should recall that Palantir's net loss was inflated by its direct listing expenses last year.
\n
If we look back at Palantir's history, the company has actually never been profitable since its inception 18 years ago. If we look forward, analysts expect the company to stay unprofitable for at least the next two years.
\n
2. The rise of RAVEn
\n
Palantir generates just over half of its revenue from government contracts. In its SEC filings, the company says its long-term goal is to make Gotham, its data mining platform, which serves dozens of government agencies, the \"default operating system for data across the U.S. government.\"
\n
But earlier this year, a leaked government document revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) wanted to replace FALCON, the agency's customized version of Gotham, with a new in-house platform called RAVEn. ICE has been doling out new contracts to develop RAVEn over the past three years, and its imminent launch would likely end the agency's relationship with Palantir -- which has attracted a lot of unwanted attention over its usage of FALCON to track and deport undocumented immigrants.
\n
If other government agencies follow ICE's lead and adopt RAVEn or develop their own in-house data mining platforms, Palantir's government-facing business -- which already reported decelerating revenue growth over the past two quarters -- could face an unprecedented slowdown.
\n
3. Its ongoing stock dilution
\n
Palantir's number of weighted-average shares rose 70% year over year at the end of 2020 following its direct listing. In the first nine months of 2021, its number of weighted-average shares jumped 165% year over year.
\n
Palantir's share count continues to rise because it relies heavily on its stock-based compensation (which consumed 55% of its revenue in the first nine months of 2021) to fund its operations in lieu of cash. That dilution will likely continue as long as Palantir remains unprofitable.
\n
4. Its high valuation
\n
That dilution will also prevent Palantir's high valuations from cooling off. With a market cap of $36 billion, Palantir is still valued at 24 times this year's sales. The bulls will argue that Palantir's target of generating more than 30% annual sales growth justifies that higher price-to-sales ratio, but it's easy to find stocks with comparable growth rates at lower valuations.
\n
For example, C3.ai (NYSE:AI), which provides AI algorithms to government and large enterprise customers, expects to generate 35%-36% sales growth this year -- but its stock trades at just 13 times that forecast.
\n
5. Insiders are selling shares as its price declines
\n
Over the past three months, Palantir's insiders sold 12.6 million shares while buying 11.8 million shares. That balance between sellers and buyers isn't too jarring, but Palantir's stock has also lost about a third of its value over the past three months, and is trading near its 52-week low.
\n
If a stock has dropped to a 52-week low, I'd like to see its insiders buy more shares than they're selling to consider it a potential turnaround play. Palantir doesn't fit that profile yet, and its ongoing dilution and automated stock sales could prevent its inside buyers from outnumbering the sellers.
\n
Why I'm staying bullish on Palantir
\n
Palantir faces a lot of challenges, and it could remain out of favor as inflation-related fears drive investors away from higher-growth tech stocks.
\n
But over the long term, I still expect Palantir to leverage its battle-hardened reputation to secure more government clients and expand its enterprise business. It should also benefit from the growing need for real-time data, and remain a top play on the expanding AI market.
\n
Therefore, investors who can stomach the near-term volatility should stick with Palantir. Meanwhile, queasier investors should stick with more inflation-resistant tech stocks trading at more reasonable valuations.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Red Flags for Palantir's Future
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Red Flags for Palantir's Future\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-23 21:25 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Last September, I bought a large position in Palantir Technologies (NYSE:PLTR) at just under $10 per share after it went public through a direct listing. The market's interest in the data mining firm was muted at first, but its stock skyrocketed to $45 per share during the Reddit-fueled rally in late January.\nI sold a third of my position at the time to take out my original investment, then held on to the rest as Palantir's stock tumbled back to the high teens. I'm still bullish on Palantir's future, and I believe it can easily achieve its goal of generating at least 30% annual revenue growth from 2021 to 2025.\nThat being said, I think it's still important for bullish investors to recognize Palantir's weaknesses. So today, I'll take a look at five red flags that might limit Palantir's near-term gains.\n1. All that red ink\nPalantir generated $1.09 billion in revenue in 2020, but it posted a whopping net loss of $1.17 billion.\nIn the first nine months of 2021, its revenue rose 44% year over year to $1.11 billion, while its net loss narrowed from $1.02 billion to $364 million. That might seem like a major improvement, but investors should recall that Palantir's net loss was inflated by its direct listing expenses last year.\nIf we look back at Palantir's history, the company has actually never been profitable since its inception 18 years ago. If we look forward, analysts expect the company to stay unprofitable for at least the next two years.\n2. The rise of RAVEn\nPalantir generates just over half of its revenue from government contracts. In its SEC filings, the company says its long-term goal is to make Gotham, its data mining platform, which serves dozens of government agencies, the \"default operating system for data across the U.S. government.\"\nBut earlier this year, a leaked government document revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) wanted to replace FALCON, the agency's customized version of Gotham, with a new in-house platform called RAVEn. ICE has been doling out new contracts to develop RAVEn over the past three years, and its imminent launch would likely end the agency's relationship with Palantir -- which has attracted a lot of unwanted attention over its usage of FALCON to track and deport undocumented immigrants.\nIf other government agencies follow ICE's lead and adopt RAVEn or develop their own in-house data mining platforms, Palantir's government-facing business -- which already reported decelerating revenue growth over the past two quarters -- could face an unprecedented slowdown.\n3. Its ongoing stock dilution\nPalantir's number of weighted-average shares rose 70% year over year at the end of 2020 following its direct listing. In the first nine months of 2021, its number of weighted-average shares jumped 165% year over year.\nPalantir's share count continues to rise because it relies heavily on its stock-based compensation (which consumed 55% of its revenue in the first nine months of 2021) to fund its operations in lieu of cash. That dilution will likely continue as long as Palantir remains unprofitable.\n4. Its high valuation\nThat dilution will also prevent Palantir's high valuations from cooling off. With a market cap of $36 billion, Palantir is still valued at 24 times this year's sales. The bulls will argue that Palantir's target of generating more than 30% annual sales growth justifies that higher price-to-sales ratio, but it's easy to find stocks with comparable growth rates at lower valuations.\nFor example, C3.ai (NYSE:AI), which provides AI algorithms to government and large enterprise customers, expects to generate 35%-36% sales growth this year -- but its stock trades at just 13 times that forecast.\n5. Insiders are selling shares as its price declines\nOver the past three months, Palantir's insiders sold 12.6 million shares while buying 11.8 million shares. That balance between sellers and buyers isn't too jarring, but Palantir's stock has also lost about a third of its value over the past three months, and is trading near its 52-week low.\nIf a stock has dropped to a 52-week low, I'd like to see its insiders buy more shares than they're selling to consider it a potential turnaround play. Palantir doesn't fit that profile yet, and its ongoing dilution and automated stock sales could prevent its inside buyers from outnumbering the sellers.\nWhy I'm staying bullish on Palantir\nPalantir faces a lot of challenges, and it could remain out of favor as inflation-related fears drive investors away from higher-growth tech stocks.\nBut over the long term, I still expect Palantir to leverage its battle-hardened reputation to secure more government clients and expand its enterprise business. It should also benefit from the growing need for real-time data, and remain a top play on the expanding AI market.\nTherefore, investors who can stomach the near-term volatility should stick with Palantir. While it may be tempting, it is too soon to add Federal Reserve policymakers to that list.
\n
Much will be made next week out of some potentially \"hawkish\" sounds from the U.S. central bank's policy meeting, economists said, while they stressed that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and the majority of the voting members of the interest rate setting committee remain \"doves\" and fundamentally will be sticking to their \"patient\" stance on monetary policy.
\n
\"They are going to be a little bit less dovish than last time,\" said Jim O'Sullivan, chief U.S. macro strategist for TD Securities.
\n
U.S. inflation has been sizzling in recent months.
\n
But the recent decline in long-term Treasury yields allows the Fed to lean into the hawkish message, O'Sullivan said.
\n
While inflation has been surprisingly hot, the Fed \"is willing to wait\" until the fall to see how the labor market responds to the inflation spike, said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. Wage pressures play a key role in determining the inflation outlook.
\n
\"We don't know how many people will come back into the labor market, how participation will rise, and will it be enough to dampen inflationary pressures,\" Shepherdson said.
\n
\"In the olden days, the Fed would have raised interest rates first and worried about what was going to happen afterwards. But this is a different Fed with a different strategy and a different approach,\" he said.
\n
The Fed is buying $80 billion of Treasurys and $40 billion of mortgage backed securities each month, along with keeping its benchmark interest rate close to zero, to support the economy.
\n
The central bank put itself in a bit of a box in December by guiding markets that it wouldn't slow down the pace of purchases until there had been \"substantial further progress\" in its goals of full employment and stable inflation.
\n
What will be the hawkish sounds?
\n
First, the Fed will give in to the reality that talking about tapering the size of its asset purchases makes sense. That might happen in July, but not now.
\n
To downplay the significance, the Fed won't say anything about the \"talks about tapering\" in its formal statement, next Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan said.
\n
Secondly, the Fed's dot-plot, or interest rate forecast chart, may show a shift forward for the first rate hike to come during 2023. At the moment, the Fed shows no rate hikes until 2024 at the earliest.
\n
At its March meeting, seven out of 18 Fed officials saw a hike before the end of 2023, and it could be nine or ten officials at the June meeting next week.
\n
Thirdly, the Fed will have to raise its forecast for inflation for this year. In March, the Fed penciled in a 2.2% core rate for the personal consumption expenditure index. At the moment, the economy is 7.6 million jobs short.
\n
None of these potentially hawkish noises will disturb the central message of Fed officials to the market -- that its benchmark interest rate will stay low next year.
\n
Even if the Fed starts to taper its asset purchases next January, economists think it will take months before the central bank is ready to take the next step and hike its benchmark interest rates off zero.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Don't be fooled by some of the hawkish sounds coming out of the Fed next week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nDon't be fooled by some of the hawkish sounds coming out of the Fed next week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n<div class=\"head\" \">\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Dow Jones
\n
2021-06-12 07:11
\n
\n\n
\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n Fed will remain dovish, economists say.\n
\n
There are sixteen different types of hawks found in the United States, according to birdwatchingh.com . While it may be tempting, it is too soon to add Federal Reserve policymakers to that list.\nMuch will be made next week out of some potentially \"hawkish\" sounds from the U.S. central bank's policy meeting, economists said, while they stressed that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and the majority of the voting members of the interest rate setting committee remain \"doves\" and fundamentally will be sticking to their \"patient\" stance on monetary policy.\n\"They are going to be a little bit less dovish than last time,\" said Jim O'Sullivan, chief U.S. macro strategist for TD Securities.\nU.S. inflation has been sizzling in recent months.\nBut the recent decline in long-term Treasury yields allows the Fed to lean into the hawkish message, O'Sullivan said.\nWhile inflation has been surprisingly hot, the Fed \"is willing to wait\" until the fall to see how the labor market responds to the inflation spike, said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. Wage pressures play a key role in determining the inflation outlook.\n\"We don't know how many people will come back into the labor market, how participation will rise, and will it be enough to dampen inflationary pressures,\" Shepherdson said.\n\"In the olden days, the Fed would have raised interest rates first and worried about what was going to happen afterwards. But this is a different Fed with a different strategy and a different approach,\" he said.\nThe Fed is buying $80 billion of Treasurys and $40 billion of mortgage backed securities each month, along with keeping its benchmark interest rate close to zero, to support the economy.\nThe central bank put itself in a bit of a box in December by guiding markets that it wouldn't slow down the pace of purchases until there had been \"substantial further progress\" in its goals of full employment and stable inflation.\nWhat will be the hawkish sounds?\nFirst, the Fed will give in to the reality that talking about tapering the size of its asset purchases makes sense. This is an important shift. Since December, Powell has managed to hold off such talk.\nBut this is only the most preliminary of steps.\nInstead \"officials will talk in general straw-poll terms on what principles ought to apply,\" said Lou Crandall, chief economist at Wrightson ICAP.\nIt won't be the Fed having a structured debate on a set of options game-planned by the staff. That might happen in July, but not now.\nTo downplay the significance, the Fed won't say anything about the \"talks about tapering\" in its formal statement, next Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan said.\nSecondly, the Fed's dot-plot, or interest rate forecast chart, may show a shift forward for the first rate hike to come during 2023. At the moment, the Fed shows no rate hikes until 2024 at the earliest.\nAt its March meeting, seven out of 18 Fed officials saw a hike before the end of 2023, and it could be nine or ten officials at the June meeting next week.\nThirdly, the Fed will have to raise its forecast for inflation for this year. In March, the Fed penciled in a 2.2% core rate for the personal consumption expenditure index. While that may rise, the Fed won't move the core rate for 2022 much higher, a signal that it still believes the price gains seen in the last few months reflects \"largely transitory\" factors.\nDuring press conferences, Powell has said the economy is \"a long way\" from the Fed's goals and it would take \"some time\" for substantial further progress to be achieved.\n\"I wouldn't pound the table and say exactly what Powell is going to say but it is time to start getting away from that language,\" O'Sullivan of TD Securities said.\nAt the same time, the Fed has got to say that while the economy has made progress, they still need to see a lot more,\" he added.\nWhen the Fed added the \"substantial further progress\" guideline, the economy was 9.8 million jobs short of its level in February 2020. At the moment, the economy is 7.6 million jobs short.\nNone of these potentially hawkish noises will disturb the central message of Fed officials to the market -- that its benchmark interest rate will stay low next year.\nEven if the Fed starts to taper its asset purchases next January, economists think it will take months before the central bank is ready to take the next step and hike its benchmark interest rates off zero.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":31,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":180912968,"gmtCreate":1623168372854,"gmtModify":1704197644957,"author":{"id":"3555064787466669","authorId":"3555064787466669","name":"LuckyLion","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6a69edf26fa15174d445529f2a9e87d3","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555064787466669","authorIdStr":"3555064787466669"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good?","listText":"Good?","text":"Good?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/180912968","repostId":"1136550999","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1136550999","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623142939,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1136550999?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-08 17:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Biden administration announces plans to strengthen critical supply chains","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1136550999","media":"cnbc","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nThe Biden administration will announce new actions designed to strengthen critical U.S. ","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nThe Biden administration will announce new actions designed to strengthen critical U.S. supply chains on Tuesday.\nThey include plans to develop a domestic lithium battery manufacturing ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The agency's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program will distribute $17 billion in an effort to support new research and manufacturing efforts in the United States.\nRare earth minerals:The Department of Interior will lead a task force to identify sites wherecritical minerals could be producedand processed in the United States.\" The report said the U.S. will develop the capacity for \"sustainable production, refining, and recycling\" of the 17 rare earth metals used in cell phones, cars and magnets, while meeting high environmental standards.\nSemiconductors:As the nation grapples witha semiconductor shortage that has idled major auto manufacturing plants, the White House said it will work with the private sector to increase supply chain transparency.\nAdvanced pharmaceutical ingredients:The Department of Health and Human Services will use authority granted under the Defense Production Act to commit approximately $60 million to \"develop novel platform technologies to increase domestic manufacturing capacity for API.\"\n\nIn addition to these steps, designed to boost supplies of specific products, the administration also announced several broader initiatives.\nTo help train the workers that will be needed to staff these new projects, the White House will announce $100 million in additional grants to support state-led apprenticeship expansion efforts. The grants will be administered by the Department of Labor.\nThe Department of Energy will announce a new policy that requires awardees of DOE research and development grants to \"substantially manufacture those products in the United States.\"\nAlong with these efforts to bolster domestic supply chains, the Biden administration will also announce new steps to combat \"unfair foreign trade practices,\" which it says have contributed to the erosion of supply chains around the world.\nOne of these will be the creation of a \"trade strike force\" led by the U.S. Trade Representative's office. The strike force will aim to identify \"unilateral and multilateral\" enforcement actions the United States can take to punish countries that it believes are engaging in unfair trade practices. According to a senior administration official, the strike force will focus on developing U.S.-China trade policies.\nThe other enforcement-related action will be an evaluation, led by the Department of Commerce, of whether to initiate an investigation into neodymium magnets under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.\nThe rare earth magnets are used in motors and electronics by both civilians and the military. If the investigation were to conclude that U.S. national security is threatened by foreign supplies of neodymium, it could open the door to import restrictions or tariffs.\nBiden's predecessor, Donald Trump, invoked Section 232 twice during his one term as president, citing it as his justification for imposing broad steel and aluminum tariffs. Those tariffs are still in place, and Biden has not said whether he will lift them or not.\nA senior administration official who briefed reporters emphasized that Biden's trade policy actions are fundamentally different from Trump's trade wars, because they are carefully targeted.\n\"We're not looking to wage trade wars with our allies and partners,\" said the official. \"We're looking at very targeted products where we think there are effective tools we could deploy to strengthen our own supply chains and reduce vulnerabilities.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":206,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":316159370,"gmtCreate":1611923281490,"gmtModify":1704865883086,"author":{"id":"3555064787466669","authorId":"3555064787466669","name":"LuckyLion","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6a69edf26fa15174d445529f2a9e87d3","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555064787466669","authorIdStr":"3555064787466669"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/316159370","repostId":"1181933127","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1181933127","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1611913647,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1181933127?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-01-29 17:47","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"China Starts Earnings With 9 in 10 Firms Expecting Higher Profit","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1181933127","media":"Yahoo finance","summary":"Hundreds of Chinese companies are set to report an improvement in annual earnings, offering investor","content":"
Hundreds of Chinese companies are set to report an improvement in annual earnings, offering investors a stronger fundamental backdrop after stocks sank this week.
\n
Among the 1,200-odd firms listed in mainland China that issued preliminary results in January, 75% have said earnings rose last year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg as of Thursday.
