Used car and truck prices jumped more than 7%, accounting for one-third of the total increase for the month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The jump in used car prices likely reflects a temporary phenomenon related to the pandemic and auto supply.\nA separate report released Thursday showed that jobless claims for the week ended June 5 came in at 376,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 370,000. The stock closed up about 1% on Friday.\nBitcoin transactions have become a booming business for Square, which allows consumers to make purchases using the Cash App and store the currency digitally. Bitcoin revenue at the company climbed to $4.75 billion last year from $516.5 million in 2019.\nDorsey is proposing a new way for users to store their bitcoin so that it’s not controlled by Square or any other company. A bitcoin wallet could allow users to store the cryptocurrency in a secure gadget and let them choose to spend it later.\n“Square is considering making a hardware wallet for bitcoin,” Dorsey said. “If we do it, we would build it entirely in the open, from software to hardware design, and in collaboration with the community.”′\nHe explained how Square’s product, if built, might differ from available alternatives.\n“The exchange you used to buy your bitcoin probably attends to your security with good intent, but circumstances may reveal ‘custody’ actually means ‘IOU.’ Deciding to take custody, and security, of your bitcoin is complicated.”\nDorsey is referring to how some exchanges currently work.PayPal, for example, lets you buy bitcoin but it controls the “private key” and works, as Dorsey explains, more like an IOU. PayPal also doesn’t let customers move bitcoin to wallets outside of the PayPal ecosystem.\nDorsey said Square might be able to simplify how people hold bitcoin by creating “assisted self-custody,” which he said would make it easy for customers to spend a certain percentage of available funds from their phone, while safely securing the rest of the money in the wallet. Dorsey said that integration with the Cash App, is “obvious” but “only part of the solution.”\nDorsey said the solution doesn’t “need to be owned by Square” and that he’ll provide further thoughts “if we decide to build” the product.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":136,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3576274545052910","authorId":"3576274545052910","name":"Kevin92","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c5ff4addbbdb8d9d15fec29f9709b0c3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3576274545052910","authorIdStr":"3576274545052910"},"content":"Like and comment","text":"Like and comment","html":"Like and comment"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":111689187,"gmtCreate":1622678767949,"gmtModify":1704188653209,"author":{"id":"3556329315079497","authorId":"3556329315079497","name":"Tslverde","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5f52f5991ed363792008cd868f78181c","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556329315079497","authorIdStr":"3556329315079497"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Why so good? The president addresses a joint session of Congress Wednesday evening. It’s a huge week for earnings with about a third of the S&P 500 reporting, including Big Tech names, such as Apple,Microsoft,Alphabet and Amazon. As many have already done, firms like Boeing, Ford,Caterpillar and McDonald’s, are likely to detail cost pressures they are facing from rising materials and transportation costs and supply chain disruptions. At the same time, the Fed is expected to defend its policy of letting inflation run hot, while assuring markets it sees the pick-up in prices as only temporary. The central bank meets on Tuesday and Wednesday. The central bank takes the main stage“I think the Fed would like not to be a feature next week, but the Fed will be forced from the background because of concerns about inflation,” said Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton. The central bank is not expected to make any policy moves, but Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s press briefing following the meeting Wednesday will be closely watched. So far, the barrage of earnings news has been positive, with 86% of companies reporting earnings beats. Corporate profits are expected to be up about 33.9% for the first quarter, based on estimates and actual reports, according to Refinitiv. Revenues are about 9.9% higher. There is important inflation data Friday when the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge is reported. The personal consumption expenditure report is expected to show a 1.8% rise in core inflation, still below the Fed’s target of 2%. Other data releases include the first-quarter gross domestic product on Thursday, which is expected to have grown by 6.5%, according to Dow Jones.“I think the Fed has no urgency to shift monetary policy at this point,” said Ian Lyngen, head of U.S. rates strategy at BMO. “The Fed needs to acknowledge that the data is improving. We had a strong first quarter.”“The Fed needs to acknowledge that but at the same time they’re keeping extremely accommodative policy in place, so they’ll have to make a note to the fact that the easy policy is warranted,” he said.Lyngen said the Fed will likely point to continued concerns about the pandemic globally as a potential risk to the economic recovery.Powell is also expected to once more explain that the Fed will let inflation rise above its 2% target for a period of time before it raises rates so that the economy can have more time to heal. “It’s going to be a challenge for the Fed,” said Swonk. The base effects for the next several months will make inflation appear to have jumped sharply because of the comparison to a weak period last year. The consumer price index for April could be above 3%, compared to 2.6% last month, Swonk added.“The Fed is trying to let a lot more people get out onto the dance floor before it calls ‘last call,’” she said. “Really what Powell has been saying since day one is if we take care of people on the margins and bring them back into the labor force, the rest will take care of itself.”Stocks were slightly lower in the past week, and Treasury yields held at lower levels. The 10-year yield, which moves opposite price, was at 1.55% Friday. The S&P 500was down 0.1%, ending the week at 4,180, while Nasdaq Composite was down nearly 0.3% at 14,016. The Dow was off just shy of 0.5% at 34,043.Tax hike prospectsStocks were hit hard on Thursday when after a news report said that Biden is expected to propose a capital gains tax rate of 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million a year.Combined with the 3.8% net investment income tax, the new levy would more than double the long term capital gains rate of 20% or the richest Americans.Strategists said Biden is expected to propose raising the income tax rate for those earning more than $400,000.“I think a lot of people are starting to price in the risk there going to be a significant increase in both corporate and capital gains taxes,” said Lyngen. So far, companies have not provided much in the way of commentary on the proposed hike in corporate taxes to 28% from 21% but they have been talking about other costs.David Bianco, chief investment strategist for the Americas at DWS, said he expects larger companies will do better dealing with supply chain constraints than smaller ones. Big Tech is also likely to fare better during the semiconductor shortage than auto makers, which have already announced production shutdowns, he said.“Next week is tech week. I think we’re going to get down on our knees and just be in awe of their business models and their ability to grow at a behemoth scale,” Bianco said.He said he’s not in favor of Wall Street’s popular trade into cyclicals and out of growth. He still favors growth.“We’re overweight equities really because we’re concerned about rising interest rates,” Bianco said. “I’m not bullish in that I expect the market to rise that much from here.”“We stuck with growth and dug deeper into bond substitutes, utilities, staples, real estate,” he said, adding he is underweight industrials, energy and materials. “Energy is doomed. It’s being nationalized via regulation. I do like industrials, they are well-run companies, but I do think infrastructure spending expectations for classic infrastructure are too high.”He also said industrials are good businesses, but the stocks have become overvalued.Bianco said he likes big box stores, but smaller retailers are facing big challenges that were already impacting them prior to Covid. He also finds small biotech firms attractive.“I like healthcare stocks. Those valuations are reasonable. People have been paranoid about politicians beating on them since 1992. They manage through it and lately they’ve been delivering,” he said.Week ahead calendarMondayEarnings:Tesla,Canadian National Railway, Canon,Check Point Software,Otis Worldwide, Vale,Ameriprise,NXP Semiconductor,Albertsons, Royal Phillips8:30 a.m. Durable goodsTuesdayFOMC begins two day meetingEarnings:Microsoft,Alphabet,Visa,Amgen,Advanced Micro Devices,3M,General Electric,Eli Lilly, Hasbro,United Parcel Service,BP,Novartis,JetBlue,Pultegroup,Archer Daniels Midland,Waste Management,Starbucks,Texas Instrument,Chubb,Mondelez,FireEye,Corning,Raytheon9:00 a.m. S&P/Case-Shiller9:00 a.m. FHFA home prices10:00 a.m. Consumer confidence10:00 a.m. Housing vacanciesWednesdayEarnings:Apple, Boeing,Facebook,Qualcomm,Ford,MGM Resorts,Humana,Norfolk Southern,General Dynamics,Boston Scientific, eBay, Samsung Electronics, GlaxoSmithKline,Yum Brands, SiriusXM, Aflac,Cheesecake Factory,Community Health System,CIT Group,Entergy,CME Group,Hess,Ryder System8:30 a.m. Advance economic indicators2:00 p.m. Fed statement2:30 p.m. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell briefingThursdayEarnings:Amazon,Caterpillar,McDonald’s,Twitter,Bristol-Myers Squibb,Comcast,Merck,Northrop Grumman, Airbus,Kraft Heinz,Intercontinental Exchange,Mastercard,Gilead Sciences,U.S. Steel, Cirrus Logic,Texas Roadhouse, Cabot Oil, PG&E,Royal Dutch Shell,Church & Dwight, Carlyle Group,Southern Co.8:30 a.m. Initial jobless claims8:30 a.m. Real GDP Q110:00 a.m. Pending home salesFridayEarnings:ExxonMobil,Chevron,Colgate-Palmolive,AstraZeneca,Clorox,Barclays, AbbVie, BNP Paribas,Weyerhaeuser,Illinois Tool Works, CBOE Global Markets, Lazard,Newell Brands,Aon,LyondellBasell,Pitney Bowes,Phillips 66,Charter Communications8:30 a.m. Personal income and spending8:30 a.m. Employment cost index Q19:45 a.m. Chicago PMI10:00 a.m. Consumer sentimentSaturdayEarnings:Berkshire Hathaway","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":160,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":115773537,"gmtCreate":1623033041129,"gmtModify":1704194685452,"author":{"id":"3556329315079497","authorId":"3556329315079497","name":"Tslverde","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5f52f5991ed363792008cd868f78181c","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556329315079497","authorIdStr":"3556329315079497"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good. The firm disposed of its stake after concluding that AMC’s stock is overvalued, propped up by a recent wave of day-trader enthusiasm, the person said.

AMC jumped 23% to $32.04 at the close in New York. The shares more than doubled in May, pushing the year-to-date gain to a whopping 1,411% for the year.

No Lockup

AMC said Tuesday it sold stock to Mudrick with plans to “go on offense” for acquisitions. The agreement with New York-based Mudrick was for 8.5 million shares of common stock at $27.12 apiece. The stock purchase came with the assurance that the shares would be “freely tradable,” meaning the firm could sell the shares at any point or in any amount it chose.

Debt holders have also benefited from the recent equity rally. Some of its junk-rated second lien bonds due 2026 that were trading as low as 5 cents on the dollar in November are now close to face value, and quotes on its senior subordinated notes maturing in 2027 jumped about 4.5 cents Tuesday to almost 80 cents.

Mudrick has made big bets on AMC in the past, helping the movie theater chain as it pushed through the pandemic. In January, the firm agreed to buy $100 million of new secured bonds in exchange for a commitment fee equal to about 8 million AMC shares. The company's results have been viewed as closely tied to the pace of the post-pandemic economic reopening. Alphabet's core advertising revenue through search and YouTube is exposed to marketers in travel and other high-contact industries, as well as small businesses deeply impacted by the pandemic.
\n
Overall, Google advertising revenues are expected to jump 25% over last year, comprising the vast majority of overall sales. YouTube ads likely grew by 42% to $5.8 billion.
\n
\"Google Search and YouTube ads could see meaningful upside from advertisers heavily impacted by COVID-19 returning to Search (travel advertisers) and YouTube (brand advertisers),\" JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth wrote in a note last week.
\n
Against this improving backdrop, Alphabet's stock underperformance against Big Tech peers last year has reversed in 2021 to-date. Shares have risen 32% through Monday's close, far outperforming the S&P 500's 11.5% gain over that time period.
\n
UKRAINE - 2021/04/09: In this photo illustration, Alphabet and Google logos seen displayed on smartphones. (Photo Illustration by Igor Golovniov/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
\n
Some, however, have noted that since the company is a known beneficiary of the \"reopening trade,\" it may have a difficult hurdle to clear in delivering first-quarter results that manage to impress Wall Street. Others suggested the opposite.
\n
\"We think expectations are actually the lowest for Alphabet, partially because it's been the most obvious reopening stock,\" Jason Helstein,Oppenheimer senior analyst, told Yahoo Finance on Monday.\"They have the most exposure to travel. They have the most exposure to local. And so we think, you know, to the extent you would think expectation would be higher, when we've done kind of our own work, we actually think within the tech group, it's actually the best setup into earnings.\"
\n
\"A lot of people have looked at kind of Alphabet and said, this company's just so big, can it keep up hyper-growth? And they just have this kind of ability to surprise. We think their advertising is going to be up 26% this year, which is two points above the Street. And we're looking for 17% next year, which is five points above the Street.\"
\n
Other, smaller areas of Google's business are expected to have continued growing strongly in the first three months of the year. The company's results have been viewed as closely tied to the pace of the post-pandemic economic reopening. Alphabet's core advertising revenue through search and YouTube is exposed to marketers in travel and other high-contact industries, as well as small businesses deeply impacted by the pandemic.\nOverall, Google advertising revenues are expected to jump 25% over last year, comprising the vast majority of overall sales. YouTube ads likely grew by 42% to $5.8 billion.\n\"Google Search and YouTube ads could see meaningful upside from advertisers heavily impacted by COVID-19 returning to Search (travel advertisers) and YouTube (brand advertisers),\" JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth wrote in a note last week.\nAgainst this improving backdrop, Alphabet's stock underperformance against Big Tech peers last year has reversed in 2021 to-date. Shares have risen 32% through Monday's close, far outperforming the S&P 500's 11.5% gain over that time period.\nUKRAINE - 2021/04/09: In this photo illustration, Alphabet and Google logos seen displayed on smartphones. (Photo Illustration by Igor Golovniov/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)\nSome, however, have noted that since the company is a known beneficiary of the \"reopening trade,\" it may have a difficult hurdle to clear in delivering first-quarter results that manage to impress Wall Street. Others suggested the opposite.\n\"We think expectations are actually the lowest for Alphabet, partially because it's been the most obvious reopening stock,\" Jason Helstein,Oppenheimer senior analyst, told Yahoo Finance on Monday.\"They have the most exposure to travel. They have the most exposure to local. And so we think, you know, to the extent you would think expectation would be higher, when we've done kind of our own work, we actually think within the tech group, it's actually the best setup into earnings.\"\n\"A lot of people have looked at kind of Alphabet and said, this company's just so big, can it keep up hyper-growth? And they just have this kind of ability to surprise. We think their advertising is going to be up 26% this year, which is two points above the Street. And we're looking for 17% next year, which is five points above the Street.\"\nOther, smaller areas of Google's business are expected to have continued growing strongly in the first three months of the year. Google Cloud's revenue will likely top $4 billion for the first quarter, according to consensus estimates, to mark a growth rate of 44% over last year. While still a smaller cloud platform than those of competitors like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, the company's platform has maintained an impressive run of year-over-year growth topping 40%, continuing to gain market share in the cloud computing space.\nThis post will be updated with the results of Alphabet's second-quarter results Tuesday after market close. Mark Zuckerberg has been talking about AR and VR for years, and things are slowly but surely gathering steam. That's not the only thing Facebook is focused on; commerce and the creator economy are another two big aspects of the company that it will be growing in the years to come.
\n
Earnings highlight
\n
Facebook reported first-quarter 2021 earnings of $3.30 per share, up 93% year over year, and revenue of $26.17 billion, up 48% year over year. Monthly active users (MAUs) were 2.853 billion, up 9.6% year over year. Daily active users (DAUs) were 1.878 billion, which increased 8.3% year over year and represented 66% of MAUs.
\n
It is safe to say that people are still using Facebook, even if they tell you they don't.
\n
AR and VR
\n
Facebook is a social platform to its core, and Mark Zuckerberg believes that through virtual and augmented reality it can take that social interaction to the next level. \"I believe that augmented and virtual reality are going to enable a deeper sense of presence and social connection than any existing platform, and they're going to be an important part of how we'll interact with computers in the future.\"
\n
Mark has been a big believer in virtual and augmented reality for years. In 2014 Facebook acquired Oculus for $2.3 billion, and it has since then been heavily focused on building its own virtual world, called Horizon. Horizon is Facebook's biggest piece of its Metaverse puzzle. In Horizon people can explore, play, and create. And that's just the start.
\n
Regarding augmented reality, which is one step further, Facebook and Ray-Ban are expected to release their first-generation AR glasses later this year. Mark Zuckerberg has been talking about AR and VR for years, and things are slowly but surely gathering steam. That's not the only thing Facebook is focused on; commerce and the creator economy are another two big aspects of the company that it will be growing in the years to come.\nEarnings highlight\nFacebook reported first-quarter 2021 earnings of $3.30 per share, up 93% year over year, and revenue of $26.17 billion, up 48% year over year. Monthly active users (MAUs) were 2.853 billion, up 9.6% year over year. Daily active users (DAUs) were 1.878 billion, which increased 8.3% year over year and represented 66% of MAUs.\nIt is safe to say that people are still using Facebook, even if they tell you they don't.\nAR and VR\nFacebook is a social platform to its core, and Mark Zuckerberg believes that through virtual and augmented reality it can take that social interaction to the next level. \"I believe that augmented and virtual reality are going to enable a deeper sense of presence and social connection than any existing platform, and they're going to be an important part of how we'll interact with computers in the future.\"\nMark has been a big believer in virtual and augmented reality for years. In 2014 Facebook acquired Oculus for $2.3 billion, and it has since then been heavily focused on building its own virtual world, called Horizon. Horizon is Facebook's biggest piece of its Metaverse puzzle. In Horizon people can explore, play, and create. And that's just the start.\nRegarding augmented reality, which is one step further, Facebook and Ray-Ban are expected to release their first-generation AR glasses later this year. AR glasses will require a lot of tech, and it might be years before they become mainstream.\nEarlier this year Facebook showed us a neural wristband and haptic gloves, and this just shows how focused the company is on building out this part of the business. The end goal is simple: Replace the way we interact with our smartphones, tablets, and laptops. If it succeeds, the sky is the limit.\nThe reason it is so focused on this segment is that the virtual reality market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18% from 2021 to 2028 and reach $69 billion in revenue, and the augmented reality market is expected to expand at a CAGR of 43.8% from 2021 to 2028 and reach $340 billion in revenue.\nCommerce\nIt's no secret that advertising and e-commerce are where Facebook earns the majority of its revenue. More than 1 billion people visit Marketplace each month. There are now more than 1 million monthly active Shops and over 250 million monthly Shops visitors.\nFacebook launched carts on WhatsApp last year, and people have used them to send orders more than 5 million times. It's also building out broader infrastructure to support commerce, everything from payments to customer service and support. WhatsApp payments are now live in India and will soon launch in Brazil.\nFacebook is slowly building a trillion-dollar empire, and once it is complete, it might become the biggest company in the world.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":151,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":110753869,"gmtCreate":1622505776751,"gmtModify":1704185162112,"author":{"id":"3556329315079497","authorId":"3556329315079497","name":"Tslverde","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5f52f5991ed363792008cd868f78181c","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556329315079497","authorIdStr":"3556329315079497"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Down trend?
