In the past week, it has turned into a flood, helping to push the price of Bitcoin to a record of $48,297 on Thursday.

The most buzzworthy move came from Tesla (ticker: TSLA), which disclosed on Monday that it hasbought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcointo hold on its balance sheet. The company plans to let consumers use the currency to pay for cars.

But Tesla isn’t the only one. On Thursday, BNY Mellon (BK), the oldest bank in the U.S.,said it will hold and transfer cryptocurrencies for customers. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.

Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. The payments will be converted to traditional money before it enters the companies’ systems.Twitter(TWTR) is also considering a Bitcoin investment. And Square (SQ) has already put some on its balance sheet, as well as given users of its Cash App access to buy the cryptocurrency.

Why is this happening now? Cryptocurrencies are still not particularly useful outside of a very few cases, such as cross-border transactions. Even there, they haven’t fully taken hold.

There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.

One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.

Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.

Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.

Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.

Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.

And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.

A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.

A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. So-called stablecoins, whose value is meant to track fiat currencies, could allow for faster transactions for some kinds of financial services, for instance.Visa(V) andMasterCardseem like the last places in the world that Bitcoin would take hold given that Bitcoin was created to eliminate the middlemen in finance. Few companies fill the role of middleman as perfectly as the credit-card processors. Visa, however, thinks that cryptocurrencies are useful for many other purposes, and its trusted brand makes it an important player, according to Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto at the company.“We’ve seen growing demand from clients across the world that want to be able to plug in and use these networks, but they want a global, neutral, trusted brand, to help them be able to do that,” Sheffield said in an interview. Visa said last week it has created software that allows bank customers to buy and hold cryptocurrencies through lenders’ websites. Will old-line financial companies be the biggest beneficiaries of the crypto “revolution”? Michael Venuto, the chief investment officer of Toroso Investments, doesn’t think it will be easy for them to dominate this new world. Toroso created theAmplify Transformational Data SharingETF (ticker: BLOK), which invests in public companies involved in the technology behind Bitcoin.“In terms of the self-referenced paradox of the old economy accepting the blockchain, it is simply inevitable,” Venuto wrote in an email toBarron’s. “If they don’t explore the blockchain they will be extinct. You know stock picking is risky, and you’re unlikely to beat the market consistently.

So you maxed out your 401(k) contributions, you bought some low-cost index funds. And you’re socking away cash for a rainy day.

And yet.

Wealth For YouHelp us deliver more relevant content for you by telling us about yourself. Answer 3 questions to tailor your experience.Get started

Your friends have been texting you about just one thing this week: GameStop Corp. Its share price has surged. Back in April, the brick-and-mortar video-game retailer was trading at $2.80. On Wednesday, it hit $380. Reddit is obsessed with it. Elon Musk tweeted about it.People are making some serious money off this single stock.

And it looks like this behavior could be repeated: Reddit posters are already searching for the next company to pounce on. Shares of AMC Entertainment, BlackBerry, Bed Bath & Beyond and Expresshave soared, too.

It might be just enough to make you wonder: Am I missing something?

We polled financial advisers on both sides of the Atlantic and asked them that question. This is what they want you to know now right now:

Yes, You’re Smart. Don’t Let That Hurt You

With more time and cash than usual, many home-bound workers have started paying closer attention to markets. Many have been finding something surprising: they understand some pretty complex trading strategies.

Advisers caution that this doesn’t mean you should hop in.

“Just because you read an Investopedia article and you now know what a short squeeze is, there are enough other people out there who have also read that same article,” said Mike Caligiuri, founder and chief executive of Caligiuri Financial in New Albany, Ohio, describing one phenomenon behind GameStop’s performance this week.

Also read: What’s the $23 Billion GameStop Really Worth? Maybe $2 Billion

This collective knowledge has probably already increased shares to a peak, he said. “Eventually once they squeeze enough of these short sellers out, the opportunity for people to pile in and keep pushing up the share price is going to evaporate.”

You’re Not a Hedge Fund

One of the striking developments about this week’s Reddit wave was that GameStop boosters on social media effectively forced Melvin Capital, a $12.5 billion hedge fund, toback down from its short position on the stock— or its bet that shares of the video-game retailer will drop.

This might make you feel empowered to join in on the action. But advisers caution that one win for Reddit users is unlikely to translate into continuous, long-term gains for you.

“On the institutional side they’re all unified in their position and their rationale behind what they're doing,” said Dana Menard, the founder and CEO of Twin Cities Wealth Strategies Inc. Yet on a decentralized, digital community like Reddit, users will undoubtedly have myriad motives for boosting a stock, and your financial wellbeing is likely not one of them.

Large financial firms also have access to information individual investors just can’t get. Because of this, Menard says investors should be wary of stock boosters promoting their own research.

“While they’ve read about a couple indicators here or there, they certainly are not privy to the information that institutional investors have,” said Menard. “Unless these people are actually going into GameStop to interview the CEO and getting access to their books like institutional investors do, then it’s completely hearsay.”

You’re Probably Not Running for Governor of California

Yes, wealthy investors have recently revealed their stakes in GameStop, pumping the share price even more. Ryan Cohen, co-founder of Chewy Inc., is one of them. Chamath Palihapitiya, a venture capitalist and former Facebook Inc. executive, is another.

But they’re both billionaires. On Monday, Palihapitiya bothannounced he was running for governor of Californiaand invested in twoSPAC deals. Someone making those kinds of bets can likely afford to lose money on an investment.

Chances are your balance sheet looks a bit different. Menard encourages retail investors to think twice about any money they put in speculative shares, and only allocate what they can afford to lose completely.

That said, he recognizes that some investors may want to get in on the frenzy. And that’s fine, as long as it’s just a small portion of a portfolio.

“I call it their play money. What it does is it gives them the ability to be irrational, to have fun, to play around, to follow the trends, just to do it responsibly,” he said.

Patience Will Be Rewarded

Finally, the focus for any individual investors should be about their long-term investment goals and not headlines, said James McManus, chief investment officer of Nutmeg, an online investment-management firm based in London.

“Focusing on having patience rather than chasing the story of today, that holds true in down market as well as an up market,” he said, noting that historically investors have been rewarded for diversification, patience, and discipline.

$(GME)$$(AMC)$$(SNDL)$$(NOK)$$(BB)$
","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Should You Buy GameStop? You know stock picking is risky, and you’re unlikely to beat the market consistently. So you maxed out your 401(k) contributions, you bought some low-cost index funds. And you’re socking away cash for a rainy day.And yet.Wealth For YouHelp us deliver more relevant content for you by telling us about yourself. Answer 3 questions to tailor your experience.Get startedYour friends have been texting you about just one thing this week: GameStop Corp. Shares of AMC Entertainment, BlackBerry, Bed Bath & Beyond and Expresshave soared, too.It might be just enough to make you wonder: Am I missing something? We polled financial advisers on both sides of the Atlantic and asked them that question. This is what they want you to know now right now:Yes, You’re Smart. Don’t Let That Hurt YouWith more time and cash than usual, many home-bound workers have started paying closer attention to markets. Many have been finding something surprising: they understand some pretty complex trading strategies.Advisers caution that this doesn’t mean you should hop in.“Just because you read an Investopedia article and you now know what a short squeeze is, there are enough other people out there who have also read that same article,” said Mike Caligiuri, founder and chief executive of Caligiuri Financial in New Albany, Ohio, describing one phenomenon behind GameStop’s performance this week. Also read: What’s the $23 Billion GameStop Really Worth? Maybe $2 BillionThis collective knowledge has probably already increased shares to a peak, he said. “Eventually once they squeeze enough of these short sellers out, the opportunity for people to pile in and keep pushing up the share price is going to evaporate.”You’re Not a Hedge FundOne of the striking developments about this week’s Reddit wave was that GameStop boosters on social media effectively forced Melvin Capital, a $12.5 billion hedge fund, toback down from its short position on the stock— or its bet that shares of the video-game retailer will drop. This might make you feel empowered to join in on the action. But advisers caution that one win for Reddit users is unlikely to translate into continuous, long-term gains for you.“On the institutional side they’re all unified in their position and their rationale behind what they're doing,” said Dana Menard, the founder and CEO of Twin Cities Wealth Strategies Inc. Yet on a decentralized, digital community like Reddit, users will undoubtedly have myriad motives for boosting a stock, and your financial wellbeing is likely not one of them.Large financial firms also have access to information individual investors just can’t get. Because of this, Menard says investors should be wary of stock boosters promoting their own research.“While they’ve read about a couple indicators here or there, they certainly are not privy to the information that institutional investors have,” said Menard. “Unless these people are actually going into GameStop to interview the CEO and getting access to their books like institutional investors do, then it’s completely hearsay.”You’re Probably Not Running for Governor of CaliforniaYes, wealthy investors have recently revealed their stakes in GameStop, pumping the share price even more. Someone making those kinds of bets can likely afford to lose money on an investment.Chances are your balance sheet looks a bit different. Menard encourages retail investors to think twice about any money they put in speculative shares, and only allocate what they can afford to lose completely. That said, he recognizes that some investors may want to get in on the frenzy. And that’s fine, as long as it’s just a small portion of a portfolio.“I call it their play money. What it does is it gives them the ability to be irrational, to have fun, to play around, to follow the trends, just to do it responsibly,” he said.Patience Will Be RewardedFinally, the focus for any individual investors should be about their long-term investment goals and not headlines, said James McManus, chief investment officer of Nutmeg, an online investment-management firm based in London.“Focusing on having patience rather than chasing the story of today, that holds true in down market as well as an up market,” he said, noting that historically investors have been rewarded for diversification, patience, and discipline.$(GME)$$(AMC)$$(SNDL)$$(NOK)$$(BB)$","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":71,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174449916,"gmtCreate":1627131795235,"gmtModify":1703484643524,"author":{"id":"3557060271179935","authorId":"3557060271179935","name":"Oppa","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10d9e9a61d5b4c4fdeecec6de6cb3e05","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557060271179935","authorIdStr":"3557060271179935"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gone case?","listText":"gone case?","text":"gone case?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/174449916","repostId":"1151500518","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151500518","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1627092269,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1151500518?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-24 10:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tencent was ordered to remove the exclusive copyright of online music","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1151500518","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"The China market supervision administration made an administrative punishment decision according to ","content":"
The China market supervision administration made an administrative punishment decision according to law, ordering Tencent and its affiliated companies to take measures to restore the state of market competition, such as canceling the exclusive music copyright within 30 days, stopping the payment of copyright fees such as high prepayment, and not requiring the upstream copyright party to give conditions superior to its competitors without justified reasons. This Is the Best Explanation.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1113711731","media":"Barrons","summary":"Stock in Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO is on fire. While a surge in the volume of options tradi","content":"
Stock in Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO is on fire. While a surge in the volume of options trading isn’t a perfect explanation for the rally, it certainlyhelped shares soaron Monday.
\n
NIO (ticker: NIO) stock gained almost 10% Monday and shares are up 28% over the past month. The S&P 500,for comparison, rose 0.2% Monday and is up 2% over the past month. Call options volume, which rose almost 200% on Monday compared to Friday, is perhaps the biggest reason NIO shares might be more volatile.
\n
Call options give the holder the right to buy a stock at a fixed price. (Buying a call is a bullish take on the underlying stock.) Brokers will sell and trade options contracts because they want to earn a commission on a trade. But brokers don’t want to be short a call option, which means they’ll have to take a loss if the stock rises.
\n
One way brokers can hedge options positions is to buy the underlying stock. If a broker sells a call and buys the stock, they can earn the options commission and, if the stock rises, they can deliver the stock purchased to the call holder. In that scenario, the broker doesn’t have to buy shares at a higher price. That process is one way higher-than-average call buying can drive buying in the underlying stock.
\n
Other factors don’t seem to be at play. Wall Street, for example, can’t be credited with the rally. The average analystprice targetfor NIO stock is up about 1% over the past month and not much has happened to those targets since the companyreported earningsat the end of April. Looking back to that point, the average analyst price target has gone up about $1 to a little more than $59 a share.
\n
News doesn’t seem to be a credible reason for NIO’s rally, either. The last release on NIO’s website is fromJune 1when the company reported May deliveries. Those numbers relieved investors because the electric vehicle company maintained second-quarter delivery guidance despite a global automotive semiconductor shortage that has roiled the entire industry.
\n
NIO shares are now up 1% year to date. While a surge in the volume of options trading isn’t a perfect explanation for the rally, it certainlyhelped shares soaron Monday.\nNIO (ticker: NIO) stock gained almost 10% Monday and shares are up 28% over the past month. The S&P 500,for comparison, rose 0.2% Monday and is up 2% over the past month. Call options volume, which rose almost 200% on Monday compared to Friday, is perhaps the biggest reason NIO shares might be more volatile.\nCall options give the holder the right to buy a stock at a fixed price. (Buying a call is a bullish take on the underlying stock.) Brokers will sell and trade options contracts because they want to earn a commission on a trade. But brokers don’t want to be short a call option, which means they’ll have to take a loss if the stock rises.\nOne way brokers can hedge options positions is to buy the underlying stock. If a broker sells a call and buys the stock, they can earn the options commission and, if the stock rises, they can deliver the stock purchased to the call holder. In that scenario, the broker doesn’t have to buy shares at a higher price. That process is one way higher-than-average call buying can drive buying in the underlying stock.\nOther factors don’t seem to be at play. Wall Street, for example, can’t be credited with the rally. The average analystprice targetfor NIO stock is up about 1% over the past month and not much has happened to those targets since the companyreported earningsat the end of April. Looking back to that point, the average analyst price target has gone up about $1 to a little more than $59 a share.\nNews doesn’t seem to be a credible reason for NIO’s rally, either. The last release on NIO’s website is fromJune 1when the company reported May deliveries. Those numbers relieved investors because the electric vehicle company maintained second-quarter delivery guidance despite a global automotive semiconductor shortage that has roiled the entire industry.\nNIO shares are now up 1% year to date. It’s been a wild ride so far in 2021. Based on recent trading, the ride will continue.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":541,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":386507816,"gmtCreate":1613195001635,"gmtModify":1704879383875,"author":{"id":"3557060271179935","authorId":"3557060271179935","name":"Oppa","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10d9e9a61d5b4c4fdeecec6de6cb3e05","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557060271179935","authorIdStr":"3557060271179935"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Catcha Investment Corp(CHAA.U)$Leave my footprint here as the first supporter for captcha grp! That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.
\n
However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.
\n
AMC Entertainment
\n
AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.
\n
The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.
\n
But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.
\n
However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Clover Health Investments
\n
Only a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.
\n
Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.
\n
Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.
\n
Sundial Growers
\n
At one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.
\n
Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.
\n
There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.
\n
Sundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.
\n
However, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.\nHowever, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.\nAMC Entertainment\nAMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.\nThe consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.\nBut isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.\nHowever, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.\nClover Health Investments\nOnly a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.\nSince the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.\nClover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.\nStill, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.\nSundial Growers\nAt one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.\nAnalysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.\nThere certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.\nSundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.\nHowever, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. The company can't afford any additional dilution without having to resort to desperate measures to keep its listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":641,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":351147060,"gmtCreate":1616579189650,"gmtModify":1704795906321,"author":{"id":"3557060271179935","authorId":"3557060271179935","name":"Oppa","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10d9e9a61d5b4c4fdeecec6de6cb3e05","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557060271179935","authorIdStr":"3557060271179935"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"any one of u entered?","listText":"any one of u entered?","text":"any one of u entered?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/351147060","repostId":"1108035577","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1108035577","pubTimestamp":1616578783,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1108035577?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-24 17:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 High-Growth Stocks to Ride the U.S. Reopening","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108035577","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"While the stimulus package will speed economic recovery, some growth stocks will do better than othe","content":"
While the stimulus package will speed economic recovery, some growth stocks will do better than others
\n
When President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package into law, market commentators couldn’t agree on what line to tow. Supporters might have expected markets to rise. The package’s carveouts for faster vaccine production, unemployment benefits, and $1,400 checks all point to higher short-term stock prices. Detractors, meanwhile, worried that the massive spending plan would raise long-term interest rates and stifle high-growth stocks.
\n
In the end, both camps could have claimed victory. Value stocks had their best month in a decade while growth stocks struggled.Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM), a firm once left for dead by Wall Street, came roaring back with a 45% gain. Meanwhile, high-flying companies like Snowflake (NYSE:SNOW) and Zoom(NASDAQ:ZM) have seen prices tumble by 40% or more on fears of higher discount rates and lower growth.
\n
But the story for high-growth stocks hasn’t finished yet. With so many growth stocks well below their all-time highs, the novel coronavirus relief package could become the very catalyst that helps these same shares recover.
\n
Growth Stocks: A Stumble and a Recovery
\n
It’s been an abnormally tough month for growth stocks. Two key factors have contributed to this sudden reversal.
\n
Faster-than-expected reopening schedule. Many growth stocks are tech firms that benefit from people working from home. With U.S. vaccines pushed as early as May, investors have reconsidered how much longer these firms can grow.
\n
Higher long-term interest rates.Rising interest rates harm companies with high future income (i.e., growth stocks) more than those with near-term profits (i.e., cyclical value stocks). Valuation ratios tend to compress when interest rates rise.
\n
But a total abandonment of growth stocks seems premature. Long-term trends are still moving toward renewable energy, IT applications and innovative biotech; a large coronavirus package will not derail this broad movement. Instead, 2021 will see a shift in which tech companies win and lose.
\n
Already, some companies like Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and QuantumScape (NYSE:QS) have seen double-digit recoveries since early March. As consumer demand continues to pick up, investors should expect many of these tech firms to continue winning.
\n
Some Winners, Some Losers
\n
As the U.S. economy reopens, winning tech firms will need to grow earnings even faster than valuation multiples shrink. That means these firms mustfundamentally benefit from people returning to life as usual.Ridesharing, hotel booking sites and any firms that help people move around are prime candidates to win in 2021.
\n
That also means investors need to avoid the high-growth stocks that rely on work-from-home customers. Zoom Technologies has already seen its price-to-sales shrink from 120x in November to a more modest 45x today. Others like food delivery company DoorDash (NYSE:DASH), meanwhile, have already started struggling to maintain its pandemic-fueled growth.
\n
To help you get started in picking high growth stocks that will benefit from U.S. reopening, here are seven companies that look set to win:
\n
\n
Tesla
\n
QuantumScape
\n
Blink Charging(NASDAQ:BLNK)
\n
Tortoise Acquisition II / Volta(NYSE:SNPR)
\n
Airbnb(NASDAQ:ABNB)
\n
Lyft(NASDAQ:LYFT)
\n
Lemonade(NYSE:LMND)
\n
\n
Growth Stocks: Tesla (TSLA)
\n
Back in January, I wrote that Tesla’s $880 valuation seemed too high. The stock went on to lose a third of its value before regaining some ground. But with the world looking to reopen, it’s time to consider Tesla again.
\n
The electric vehicle maker was no slouch during the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, you might expect car buyers to zip up their wallets instead of splashing out on a $50,000 electric vehicle. Instead, Tesla used its direct-to-consumer business model to serve up some of the best cars in the world.
\n
And demand hasn’t shrunk away yet. As more people begin to afford vehicles (and older Tesla vehicles start to age out), the firm looks on track to regain more lost ground. The firm might not return 10x because of its size, but it’s an excellent company to bet on in the long term.
\n
QuantumScape (QS)
\n
Those looking for a more significant upside in EV markets should consider QuantumScape, the electric vehicle battery maker.
\n
On Monday, Volkswagen announced plans to build six “gigafactories”in Europe by 2030 after QuantumScape announced a breakthrough in its technologies. For years, battery makers have struggled to prevent lithium-metal dendrites’ buildup – the plaque that causes solid-state batteries to lose efficiency after recharging. QuantumScape is one of the first companies to solve that problem. And with the release of a 4-layer cell, it looks like a matter of time before it can create the 12-layer cells it needs.
\n
Much can still go wrong in QuantumScape’s development – investors should never go all-in on a tech firm until it’s crossed the R&D finish line. But those looking to put a small amount in will find that QS stock is one of the best bets in the industry.
\n
Blink Charging (BLNK)
\n
One unexpected winner of post-pandemic reopening will be Blink Charging, an electric vehicle charging station with more than 15,000 locations.
\n
Buyers might have used the pandemic to snap up Teslas and other electric vehicles. But much like buying a beautiful wedding dress (or tuxedo), the pandemic prevented widespread use of these vehicles. This summer promises to change that.
\n
Governments are already anticipating people hitting the road as the U.S. reopens. recently, a California city banned the construction of any new gas stations. And last week, Blink Charging won a grant to place 144 charging stations across Ohio.
\n
As electric vehicles continue to roll out, investors can expect this relatively small $1.7 billion minnow to come rocketing back.
\n
Growth Stocks: Volta Industries (SNPR)
\n
The recent SPAC meltdown has left many firms with share prices at or below $10. Volta Industries, another charging station company, is one of them. After merging with Tortoise Acquisition II in February, the firm has seen shares plummet from $18 to barely over $11 as investors have questioned how the firm can make money from free-to-charge stations.
\n
But don’t mistake Volta for a 1999 tech firm – a period when selling 90 cents for $1 might have seemed like a good idea. (Unfortunately for tech bubble investors, some losses get even more significant at scale). Instead, Volta brings an exciting model where advertisers pay for power. That means Volta (theoretically) is guaranteed a positive gross margin; the firm estimates they can achieve 40% margins in two years.
\n
Whether that will happen is anyone’s guess. There’s a chance that even Volta will have to switch to a cost-sharing model to make things work economically. But the firm already has dozens of retailers and carmakers signed up. And at a $1.5 billion enterprise value, Volta’s stock still looks reasonable for a firm so sensitive to U.S. reopening.
\n
Airbnb (ABNB)
\n
As the world reopens its borders, investors can expect ABNB stock to rise. The firm looks on track to register 400 million guests in emerging markets by 2030, and the return of business travel could strengthen business even more.
\n
Airbnb wasn’t always on such firm footing. In April 2020, the sudden loss of revenue caused its value to crater. The firm would lay off 25% of its staff to conserve cash.
\n
But as the pandemic wore on, Airbnb showed its true strength. By the end of the year, the booking firm had recovered almost all lost ground as travelers looked to staycations and scenery changes to break up pandemic routines. Today, Airbnb is far healthier than any of its traditional hotel rivals.
\n
Airbnb relies on a first-mover advantage. Many hosts will use a single booking site to fill their calendar – using two or more could end in double bookings and confusion. That means the company can continue building its franchise, even as other growth tech firms might hit snags.
\n
Lyft (LYFT)
\n
Investors looking to profit from the U.S. reopening should consider Lyft, the only pure-play ride-sharing firm in the business.
\n
The corporate decision to remain a pure-play company caused Lyft investor headaches during the pandemic; shares are still below their IPO price. But the firm stuck to its guns, resisting the call to make a splashy acquisition in food delivery.
\n
As people return to the office and entertaining outside of the house, demand for Lyft’s services will soar. The firm is also reasonably priced at its $22 billion valuation, making it a tempting target for food delivery businesses looking to regain growth.
\n
Growth Stocks: Lemonade (LMND)
\n
Rounding out high-growth tech firms is Lemonade, a young rental insurance firm that does its business entirely online.
\n
The fintech company went public in July 2020 to little fanfare. Though the firm has held its own, few people moved into cities – Lemonade’s core market – during the pandemic. Today, places like New York still have three times the usually available apartments to rent.
\n
The sooner-than-expected vaccine rollout looks to change that. As more people move back into cities, analysts have pegged Lemonade’s growth at a staggering 58%. And because rental insurance contracts tend to be quite sticky, these revenues won’t disappear anytime soon.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
7 High-Growth Stocks to Ride the U.S. Reopening
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n7 High-Growth Stocks to Ride the U.S. Reopening\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-24 17:39 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
While the stimulus package will speed economic recovery, some growth stocks will do better than others\nWhen President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package into law, market ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉","LYFT":"Lyft, Inc.","LMND":"Lemonade, Inc.","QS":"Quantumscape Corp.","ABNB":"爱彼迎","BLNK":"Blink Charging"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/03/7-high-growth-stocks-to-ride-reopening/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1108035577","content_text":"While the stimulus package will speed economic recovery, some growth stocks will do better than others\nWhen President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package into law, market commentators couldn’t agree on what line to tow. The firm might not return 10x because of its size, but it’s an excellent company to bet on in the long term.\nQuantumScape (QS)\nThose looking for a more significant upside in EV markets should consider QuantumScape, the electric vehicle battery maker.\nOn Monday, Volkswagen announced plans to build six “gigafactories”in Europe by 2030 after QuantumScape announced a breakthrough in its technologies. For years, battery makers have struggled to prevent lithium-metal dendrites’ buildup – the plaque that causes solid-state batteries to lose efficiency after recharging. QuantumScape is one of the first companies to solve that problem. And with the release of a 4-layer cell, it looks like a matter of time before it can create the 12-layer cells it needs.\nMuch can still go wrong in QuantumScape’s development – investors should never go all-in on a tech firm until it’s crossed the R&D finish line. But those looking to put a small amount in will find that QS stock is one of the best bets in the industry.\nBlink Charging (BLNK)\nOne unexpected winner of post-pandemic reopening will be Blink Charging, an electric vehicle charging station with more than 15,000 locations.\nBuyers might have used the pandemic to snap up Teslas and other electric vehicles. But much like buying a beautiful wedding dress (or tuxedo), the pandemic prevented widespread use of these vehicles. This summer promises to change that.\nGovernments are already anticipating people hitting the road as the U.S. reopens. recently, a California city banned the construction of any new gas stations. And last week, Blink Charging won a grant to place 144 charging stations across Ohio.\nAs electric vehicles continue to roll out, investors can expect this relatively small $1.7 billion minnow to come rocketing back.\nGrowth Stocks: Volta Industries (SNPR)\nThe recent SPAC meltdown has left many firms with share prices at or below $10. Volta Industries, another charging station company, is one of them. After merging with Tortoise Acquisition II in February, the firm has seen shares plummet from $18 to barely over $11 as investors have questioned how the firm can make money from free-to-charge stations.\nBut don’t mistake Volta for a 1999 tech firm – a period when selling 90 cents for $1 might have seemed like a good idea. (Unfortunately for tech bubble investors, some losses get even more significant at scale). Instead, Volta brings an exciting model where advertisers pay for power. That means Volta (theoretically) is guaranteed a positive gross margin; the firm estimates they can achieve 40% margins in two years.\nWhether that will happen is anyone’s guess. There’s a chance that even Volta will have to switch to a cost-sharing model to make things work economically. But the firm already has dozens of retailers and carmakers signed up. And at a $1.5 billion enterprise value, Volta’s stock still looks reasonable for a firm so sensitive to U.S. reopening.\nAirbnb (ABNB)\nAs the world reopens its borders, investors can expect ABNB stock to rise. The firm looks on track to register 400 million guests in emerging markets by 2030, and the return of business travel could strengthen business even more.\nAirbnb wasn’t always on such firm footing. In April 2020, the sudden loss of revenue caused its value to crater. The firm would lay off 25% of its staff to conserve cash.\nBut as the pandemic wore on, Airbnb showed its true strength. By the end of the year, the booking firm had recovered almost all lost ground as travelers looked to staycations and scenery changes to break up pandemic routines. Today, Airbnb is far healthier than any of its traditional hotel rivals.\nAirbnb relies on a first-mover advantage. Many hosts will use a single booking site to fill their calendar – using two or more could end in double bookings and confusion. That means the company can continue building its franchise, even as other growth tech firms might hit snags.\nLyft (LYFT)\nInvestors looking to profit from the U.S. reopening should consider Lyft, the only pure-play ride-sharing firm in the business.\nThe corporate decision to remain a pure-play company caused Lyft investor headaches during the pandemic; shares are still below their IPO price. But the firm stuck to its guns, resisting the call to make a splashy acquisition in food delivery.\nAs people return to the office and entertaining outside of the house, demand for Lyft’s services will soar. The firm is also reasonably priced at its $22 billion valuation, making it a tempting target for food delivery businesses looking to regain growth.\nGrowth Stocks: Lemonade (LMND)\nRounding out high-growth tech firms is Lemonade, a young rental insurance firm that does its business entirely online.\nThe fintech company went public in July 2020 to little fanfare. Though the firm has held its own, few people moved into cities – Lemonade’s core market – during the pandemic. Today, places like New York still have three times the usually available apartments to rent.\nThe sooner-than-expected vaccine rollout looks to change that. As more people move back into cities, analysts have pegged Lemonade’s growth at a staggering 58%. And because rental insurance contracts tend to be quite sticky, these revenues won’t disappear anytime soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":229,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":368214451,"gmtCreate":1614328844173,"gmtModify":1704770718227,"author":{"id":"3557060271179935","authorId":"3557060271179935","name":"Oppa","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10d9e9a61d5b4c4fdeecec6de6cb3e05","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557060271179935","authorIdStr":"3557060271179935"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wydt of the shutdown? It actually started spiking about four days ago,” Zhen said in an interview Thursday on CNBC’s“The Exchange.”\n“The volume today has been insane, but we see a huge spike in advance of the run-up of the stock yesterday,” he said.\nZhen was referencing Wednesday’s major late-day gain in GameStop shares, which ultimately closed higher by more than 100%.The stock rallied further during Thursday’s volatile session and was halted multiple times. It ended up closing Thursday at $108.73 per share, up 18.6%. It had reached as high as $184.68 intraday.\nThe sudden surge followed news Tuesday that the company’s chief financial officer, Jim Bell, plans to resign in late March. Media reports suggested the departure could be linked to board member Ryan Cohen’s desire to see GameStop accelerate its digital transformation.\nThe stock’s big two-day move puzzled some on Wall Street, and CNBC’s Jim Cramer contended earlier Thursday that a CFO shakeup is unlikely to be a catalyst for such a significant rally. Whatever the cause, the GameStop resurgence calls to mind the Reddit-sparked trading mania that first engulfed the stock in January, when it soared to $483 per share.\n“What happened with GameStop when it went to $480 was one of the dumbest, most nonsensical things that I’ve seen in quite some time. This is the second dumbest,” Loop Capital Markets analyst Anthony Chukumba said Thursday on CNBC’s“Power Lunch.”He recently dropped his GameStop coverage, citing its disconnection from fundamentals.\n“I’m gobsmacked now, just as I was a few weeks ago,” Chukumba added.\nThe late January surge in GameStop put financial pressure on hedge funds and other investors who shorted the stock, which is essentially a bet that it will decrease in price.\nThe saga has in some ways served as a wake-up call for the hedge fund industry, according to Gabe Plotkin, founder of Melvin Capital. Plotkin’s fund got caught on the wrong end of the GameStop trade January.\nGoing forward, Plotkin told Congress earlier this month that he expects funds, including his own, to more closely monitor social media sites now that the power of forums like Reddit’s WallStreetBets have been demonstrated.\n“I think they saw an opportunity to drive the price of a stock higher and today with social media and other memes, there’s the ability to collectively do so,” he said. “That was a risk factor that, up until recently, we had never seen.”\nZhen co-founded Thinknum in 2014,according to his LinkedIn, but the company’s Reddit-specific dataset went live in late January as the GameStop frenzy was unfolding.\nAccording to a blog post on Thinknum’s website, the dataset “tracks the number of times NYSE and NASDAQ tickers are mentioned in the top 100 posts on r/WallStreetBets and r/Stocks in real time.”\nIn Thursday’s CNBC interview, Zhen stressed that Thinknum does not claim for its online datasets to be predictive of stocks poised to rally.\n“We provide a service where investors can track when the number of mentions on Reddit for any particular stock is increasing. We don’t interpret or analyze the data. We don’t claim the stock will go up,” said Zhen, who used to work at a hedge fund.\n“But what we are saying is that there’s a lot of chatter around the stock today ... and if you’re an investor, you need to pay attention,” he said.\nIn addition to the recently launched Reddit offering, Zhen said Thinknum has about 30 other datasets, such as those focused on product pricing and where companies are opening stores. “Reddit is one oversized sample recently but there are many other data trails that good investors pay attention to,” Zhen said.\nThe Securities and Exchange Commission said in January that it was reviewing the GameStop saga. When asked by CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin asked whether Thinknum has been contacted by the SEC, Zhen said: “We have gotten many inquiries from government bodies, which I can’t comment on specifically.”\nThinknum also has seen increased interest from investors and corporations, Zhen said. “The interest has been substantial. It’s the most I’ve seen in six years doing this.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":83,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":310703123,"gmtCreate":1611365260562,"gmtModify":1704860056290,"author":{"id":"3557060271179935","authorId":"3557060271179935","name":"Oppa","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10d9e9a61d5b4c4fdeecec6de6cb3e05","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557060271179935","authorIdStr":"3557060271179935"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Senseonics(SENS)$Ready to take off?
