yields on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes.\n
\n
How can you avoid inflation, or at least make up for it?
\n
Consumers and investors may be alarmed by rising prices. But a combination of prudent spending and investing can help these overlapping groups of people get through a period of uncertainty brought about by pent-up demand and supply shortages.
\n
Below are two lists of 19 dividend stocks with attractive yields -- companies that are expected to have plenty of cash flow to cover dividend increases or other actions that may be good for shareholders, including stock repurchases and business expansion.
\n
The consumer price index rose by 0.9% in only one month . It's easy to say that you shouldn't buy a car or truck this year. The incredible demand for used vehicles has led to a shortage for many of the most popular new ones, which means dealers will be less likely to haggle.
\n
Of course you might be in a pickle and need to get another car or truck at the worst time, but maybe you can make a modest selection this time. You might also delay a plan to sell your home and move into a bigger one, considering that every other national housing boom you have ever witnessed has eventually cooled. In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.
\n
Two dividend stock screens
\n
What do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.
\n
Here's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.
\n
For this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&P 500 , the S&P Mid Cap 400 Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.
\n
Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.
\n
A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)
\n
Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.
\n
Starting with the S&P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. The list is sorted by dividend yield:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Company
\n
Dividend yield
\n
Forward FCF yield
\n
Forward \"headroom\"
\n
Trailing FCF yield
\n
Trailing \"headroom\"
\n
\n
\n
Williams Cos. Ordinarily that would appear to be plenty of headroom to support the dividend. But it implies a payout ratio of 62%, which is much higher than the ratio of the current yield to the forward FCF yield.
\n
REITs
\n
For a second screen of real estate investment trusts, we used funds from operations (FFO) instead of free cash flow. FFO adds depreciation on real estate to earnings and nets out gains or losses on the sale of property. Here are the 10 highest-yielding REITs in the S&P Composite 1500 with positive forward and trailing FFO \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet:
\n
\n
\n
\n
REIT
\n
Dividend yield
\n
Forward FFO yield
\n
Forward \"headroom\"
\n
Trailing FFO yield
\n
Trailing \"headroom\"
\n
\n
\n
Omega Healthcare Investors Inc.
What That Means for Stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165077583","media":"Barrons","summary":"Analysts have been racing to revise earnings estimates upward of late, but those projections could e","content":"
Analysts have been racing to revise earnings estimates upward of late, but those projections could easily still be too low. That could mean more upside for stocks even though the market has been hot recently.
\n
Earnings estimates for 2021 for the average S&P 500 company have been revised higher by 8% in the past six months, according to FactSet data.Covid-19 vaccines have found arms at a fast pace, enabling states to reopen, which has been met by pent-up demand resulting fromtrillions of dollars of fiscal stimulus. Given that, revisions upward may now be less frequent.
\n
But there is indeed more upside to earnings, according to analysis from Credit Suisse strategists. For every percentage point of additional gross domestic product growth, revenue growth on the S&P 500 is roughly double, historically, Credit Suisse said. With GDP expected to grow just over 7% in 2021—the fastest clip in decades as the economy normalizes after the lockdowns of 2020—S&P 500 revenues could grow about 14%.
\n
But analysts only expect aggregate sales growth on the index of around 9% for the year, according to FactSet data. Considering current revenue estimates, Credit Suisse’s analysis implies roughly 4% upside to sales projections.
\n
Earnings would have even more potential to rise. For many S&P 500 companies—think of manufacturers, retail businesses, and food-chain operators—increased sales often mean even higher profit growth. That is because those companies have high operating leverage: A significant portion of their costs don’t vary much, so when sales rise, profit margins expand and earnings grow robustly.
\n
Credit Suisse is forecasting EPS growth of 34% in 2021, higher than the consensus estimate of 25%.
\n
Would higher expectations pump stock prices upward significantly? One challenge is that stocks already reflect a high degree of optimism. The S&P 500 is up almost 20% since late September, when investors resumed buying up assets most sensitive to changes in the economy.
\n
That has brought valuations to fairly high levels, with the average stock on the index trading at just under 22 times the per-share earnings expected for next year, compared with the long-term average of 15 times.
\n
But interest rates have recently been on the rise, which makes stocks less attractive. Many on Wall Street see the S&P 500 trading down to 20 times the earnings expected for next year. While expectations of bigger profits could help stocks, the gain would be partially offset if shares trade at a lower multiple of forecasted earnings.
\n
The most economically sensitive stocks are some of the best ones to play the earnings story.Cyclicals have run hot,but some still look good.
\n
Norfolk Southern (ticker: NSC) could achieve earnings per share of $16 by 2023,Citigroup analysts wrote in a note. That would put the rail and transportation company on a path to grow earnings at a 20% clip for the next three years, up from the 13% FactSet data indicates Wall Street analysts currently expect. That could mean more upside for stocks even though the market has been hot recently.\nEarnings estimates for 2021 for the average S&P 500 company have been revised higher by 8% in the past six months, according to FactSet data.Covid-19 vaccines have found arms at a fast pace, enabling states to reopen, which has been met by pent-up demand resulting fromtrillions of dollars of fiscal stimulus. Given that, revisions upward may now be less frequent.\nBut there is indeed more upside to earnings, according to analysis from Credit Suisse strategists. For every percentage point of additional gross domestic product growth, revenue growth on the S&P 500 is roughly double, historically, Credit Suisse said. With GDP expected to grow just over 7% in 2021—the fastest clip in decades as the economy normalizes after the lockdowns of 2020—S&P 500 revenues could grow about 14%.\nBut analysts only expect aggregate sales growth on the index of around 9% for the year, according to FactSet data. Considering current revenue estimates, Credit Suisse’s analysis implies roughly 4% upside to sales projections.\nEarnings would have even more potential to rise. For many S&P 500 companies—think of manufacturers, retail businesses, and food-chain operators—increased sales often mean even higher profit growth. That is because those companies have high operating leverage: A significant portion of their costs don’t vary much, so when sales rise, profit margins expand and earnings grow robustly.\nCredit Suisse is forecasting EPS growth of 34% in 2021, higher than the consensus estimate of 25%.\nWould higher expectations pump stock prices upward significantly? One challenge is that stocks already reflect a high degree of optimism. The S&P 500 is up almost 20% since late September, when investors resumed buying up assets most sensitive to changes in the economy.\nThat has brought valuations to fairly high levels, with the average stock on the index trading at just under 22 times the per-share earnings expected for next year, compared with the long-term average of 15 times.\nBut interest rates have recently been on the rise, which makes stocks less attractive. Many on Wall Street see the S&P 500 trading down to 20 times the earnings expected for next year. While expectations of bigger profits could help stocks, the gain would be partially offset if shares trade at a lower multiple of forecasted earnings.\nThe most economically sensitive stocks are some of the best ones to play the earnings story.Cyclicals have run hot,but some still look good.\nNorfolk Southern (ticker: NSC) could achieve earnings per share of $16 by 2023,Citigroup analysts wrote in a note. That would put the rail and transportation company on a path to grow earnings at a 20% clip for the next three years, up from the 13% FactSet data indicates Wall Street analysts currently expect. While the stock is trading above its average price/earnings ratio for the past five years, the Citi analysts still see room for a 37% gain in the shares.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":228,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":356697834,"gmtCreate":1616771051528,"gmtModify":1704798795332,"author":{"id":"3557383846065950","authorId":"3557383846065950","name":"Yagami","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/75715a6be809adb20122e1ffecfdbe45","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557383846065950","authorIdStr":"3557383846065950"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gogo~","listText":"Gogo~","text":"Gogo~","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/356697834","repostId":"2122472374","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2122472374","pubTimestamp":1616770512,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2122472374?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-26 22:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMD Stock Has Crashed 20%: Here's Why You Should Buy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2122472374","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The high-flying chipmaker has been battered on the stock market this year, but it could soon turn around.","content":"
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) stock hit a 52-week high in January this year, but the price for this high-flying chipmaker has pulled back over 20% since then thanks to a variety of factors such as the broader sell-off in tech stocks and rival Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC) resurgence under new leadership.
\n
However, one look at the pace of AMD's growth and its outlook for the year tells us that the recent sell-off in the stock may not be justified. In fact, Intel says that its 7nm client CPUs code-named Meteor Lake are in development and will tape in the next quarter. It transitioned away from mail-in DVDs as soon as technology allowed for streaming. It also pivoted to proprietary content as competitors began to emerge. Today, Netflix leads the streaming market with almost 204 million subscribers as it dominates the Golden Globes. This subscriber count far outpaces its nearest competitor, Disney's Disney+, with around 95 million subscribers.
\n
\n
Amazon similarly leads in e-commerce, selling nearly $341 billion in goods in 2020. While that still lags Walmart's (NYSE:WMT) $555 billion in net sales, Walmart earns most revenue from in-store retailing. Also, Amazon has started a successful cloud computing business, AWS. It maintains a significant market lead over competitors, controlling about one-third of the market, according to ParkMyCloud. Additionally, AWS accounts for the majority of Amazon's profits.
\n
As mentioned before, both operate streaming video platforms. Nonetheless, Amazon treats streaming as an added benefit for subscribing to its Prime service and does not release specific financial figures on Prime Video. Thus, for purposes of comparing stocks, investors should not view the two companies as \"competitors.\"
\n
Competitive advantages
\n
Instead, investors should look more closely at what each company's financials reveal about its true strengths and weaknesses.
\n
In fiscal 2020, Netflix's revenue increased by 24% year over year to nearly $25 billion. Its net income rose 48% to just under $2.8 billion over the same period. Income surged as slower growth in operating expenses more than offset Netflix's rising cost of interest and foreign exchange losses.
\n
Nonetheless, investors should take Netflix's net income with a grain of salt. Debt moved higher as content spending steadily rose. BMO Capital Markets forecasted over $17 billion in content spending in 2020. The pandemic shut down production for much of the year, and Netflix did not confirm that figure or reveal how much it allocated to content in 2020.
\n
Nonetheless, the company spent $15 billion in content development in 2019. This conflicts with the $12.4 billion reported in cost of revenue that year, meaning debt likely financed some development costs.
\n
As a result, total debt has risen from under $3.4 billion in 2016 to over $16.3 billion in 2020. This far exceeds equity of just under $11.1 billion, the company's value after subtracting liabilities from assets, and leaves the debt-to-equity ratio at almost 1.5.
\n
Nonetheless, for 2020 Netflix reported free cash flow of more than $1.9 billion, its first year of positive free cash flow since 2011. This covered the $767 million in interest expenses for 2020. Still, the negative cash flow in previous years leads to questions about how Netflix will cover interest expenses if production spending again leads to negative cash flow.
\n
Knowing this discrepancy, investors should question how long Netflix can finance content development through debt. Eventually, the company may have to dilute shares or scale back development to maintain its financial stability.
\n
This approach stands in stark contrast to Amazon's financial picture. Its net sales grew by 38% from year-ago levels to $386.1 billion, and net income rose by 84% to $11.1 billion. Income surged as operating expense growth lagged revenue increases, and, unlike in 2019, Amazon turned a non-operating profit in 2020.
\n
Amazon's leadership in two industries also serves as an advantage. AWS accounted for $13.5 billion of Amazon's $22.9 billion in operating income in 2020. This allows AWS to subsidize competitive initiatives.
\n
In 2019, net income grew modestly for retailing as the company switched from two-day to one-day shipping. As a result, overall shipping costs in 2019 rose by more than $10 billion, or 37% from year-ago levels, during a period when retail sales revenue increased by just over 18%, or $38 billion during that period. However, since AWS increased operating income by 26%, the company still grew net income by 15%.
\n
Amazon also supports a more stable balance sheet. In 2020, long-term debt increased by more than $8 billion to $31.8 billion. Nonetheless, the $31 billion in annual free cash flow easily covered interest expenses of just over $1.6 billion. Also, since Amazon supports an equity value of $93.4 billion, its debt-to-equity ratio comes in at a more comfortable 0.3. This makes debt a less significant burden for Amazon than for Netflix.
\n
Netflix or Amazon?
\n
That debt picture also helps Amazon come out a clear winner among these tech stocks. Netflix appears headed for a hard choice between financial stability and staying ahead in the content race. In contrast, the profit levels of AWS can insulate Amazon amid a highly competitive retail environment. This success in two different industries of its own creation makes Amazon difficult to challenge.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Better Buy: Netflix vs. Amazon
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBetter Buy: Netflix vs. Amazon\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-11 23:07 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Investors comparing Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) may think first of the companies' rivalry in streaming video -- but these stocks' efforts to begin new industries probably serve as a...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMZN":"亚马逊","NFLX":"奈飞"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/11/better-buy-netflix-vs-amazon/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2118984296","content_text":"Investors comparing Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) may think first of the companies' rivalry in streaming video -- but these stocks' efforts to begin new industries probably serve as a more important commonality. It’s the biggest gaming acquisition in Microsoft’s history, eclipsing the $2.5 billion the firm paid to buy Minecraft developer Mojang in 2014.\nThe Bethesda deal’s completion comes days after the European Union and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission gave the takeover their blessing. Bethesda is a household name in gaming. It’s published a number of hit franchises including the role-playing game series Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, and the Doom shooter franchise.\nIn a blog postTuesday, Microsoft confirmed rumors that some new Bethesda games would be exclusive to its Xbox console and Windows PCs.\n“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” said Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s Xbox unit.\nSuch a move would ramp up Microsoft’s competition withSony. Both firms debuted their next-generation consoles last year, hoping to lure in gamers with the promise of big improvements on the older systems.\nMicrosoft took a different approach to Sony though, heavily marketing its Xbox Game Pass subscription service which offers players access to a library of games. Sony, on the other hand, is touting new PlayStation exclusives to attract gamers.\nWith Bethesda, Microsoft is hoping to build out Xbox Game Pass by including the Rockville, Maryland-based studio’s catalog of titles. But it also aims to convince people to play on its Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms and PCs, rather than Sony’s new PlayStation 5.\nMicrosoft has often been seen as lagging behind Sony when it comes to major first-party releases. Xbox Game Studios’ highly anticipated new Halo game, Halo Infinite, was delayed until later this year after a backlash over quality issues in a reveal of the game.\nGaming has been a key beneficiary from the coronavirus pandemic as people have been spending more of their time at home. Major publishers like Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios and Electronic Arts have looked to capitalize on that trend by using their huge cash piles to snap up smaller game developers.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":100,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":361160450,"gmtCreate":1614213967870,"gmtModify":1704889613979,"author":{"id":"3557383846065950","authorId":"3557383846065950","name":"Yagami","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/75715a6be809adb20122e1ffecfdbe45","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557383846065950","authorIdStr":"3557383846065950"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Curis(CRIS)$wait for the rebound","listText":"$Curis(CRIS)$wait for the rebound","text":"$Curis(CRIS)$wait for the rebound","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81fd4447eed39c66b24cf9cf22939825","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/361160450","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":459,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":340831274,"gmtCreate":1617369215198,"gmtModify":1704699244893,"author":{"id":"3557383846065950","authorId":"3557383846065950","name":"Yagami","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/75715a6be809adb20122e1ffecfdbe45","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557383846065950","authorIdStr":"3557383846065950"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Apex Technology Acquisition Corp(APXT)$it will come back.....","listText":"$Apex Technology Acquisition Corp(APXT)$it will come back.....","text":"$Apex Technology Acquisition Corp(APXT)$it will come back.....","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/00d4d2e7b1b120bf63e9bbcfb195e7a4","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/340831274","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":821,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":356697834,"gmtCreate":1616771051528,"gmtModify":1704798795332,"author":{"id":"3557383846065950","authorId":"3557383846065950","name":"Yagami","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/75715a6be809adb20122e1ffecfdbe45","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557383846065950","authorIdStr":"3557383846065950"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gogo~","listText":"Gogo~","text":"Gogo~","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/356697834","repostId":"2122472374","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2122472374","pubTimestamp":1616770512,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2122472374?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-26 22:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMD Stock Has Crashed 20%: Here's Why You Should Buy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2122472374","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The high-flying chipmaker has been battered on the stock market this year, but it could soon turn around.","content":"
The chipmaker ended 2020 on a high and expects to deliver massive growth once again this year. More importantly, investors shouldn't worry too much about the potential impact of Intel's recent announcements on AMD's fortunes just yet, as the latter has enough going for it to ward off any threat from its bigger rival.
\n
Let's see why.
\n
AMD data by YCharts
\n
AMD isn't going to fall behind Intel anytime soon
\n
AMD chipped away substantially at Intel's dominance in PC central processing units (CPUs) and server processors last year. That chatter has only become stronger as Chipzilla reportedly looks to erase AMD's technological leadership with aggressive capacity investments.
\n
Intel recently announced a capital expenditure budget of $20 billion for 2021, a big increase over last year's $14 billion outlay, as it looks to shore up its manufacturing. The company says that the delays it faced with the 10-nanometer (nm) and 7nm chip manufacturing processes are now fixed. In fact, Intel says that its 7nm client CPUs code-named Meteor Lake are in development and will tape in the next quarter. Intel is expected to start shipping its 7nm PC chips to customers in 2023, while data center chips based on the platform are also expected in that year.
\n
AMD has already been selling 7nm processors for quite some time now, giving it an advantage over Intel, which fumbled its transition to the competing 10nm platform and has remained stuck on the 14nm platform for a long time now. What's more, investors need not be afraid of Intel's progress on the 7nm front, as Chipzilla's timeline for the launch of those chips hasn't changed.
\n
\n
In fact, AMD can be expected to raise its game by the time Intel's 7nm chips hit the market by transitioning to the competing 5nm manufacturing node within the next couple of years. A smaller processing node will allow AMD to pack more transistors closer to each other, leading to improved computing performance and lower power consumption.
\n
Therefore, AMD can remain ahead of Intel once it makes the transition to a smaller 5nm process node. Chipzilla is unlikely to regain its technology lead until the launch of its own 5nm process, the timeline for which is unknown right now. As it turns out, AMD's foundry partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is reportedly working to increase the production capacity of 5nm chips. That should bode well for AMD, as it is expected to become TSMC's second-largest customer and enjoy stronger bargaining power.
\n
Additionally, AMD can be expected to keep up the pressure on Intel in the data center space after the launch of its latest EPYC server processors. AMD claims that the latest EPYC 7003 processors based on the 7nm process are twice as fast as Intel's competing chips. Third-party tests conducted by AnandTech indicate the same.
\n
More importantly, AMD has a solid lineup of clients using the latest EPYC server processors.
