Despite their high valuations, many investors regarded these stocks as safe investments, because together they captured where so much of the economy’s growth seemed to be—from retailing to entertainment to smartphones—while also commanding strong balance sheets and huge scale to fend off rivals. Today, even though the five stocks still make up over 13% of the market value of the S&amp;P 500, the FAANG narrative seems like it’s over for good.</p><p>It’s partly a story specific to Meta and increasing skepticism about Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg’s focus on a still-hazy venture called the metaverse. But it’s also a story about how investors have changed their thinking about companies’ promises of long-run growth versus the profits they can deliver in the next few quarters or years. Although their declines in the past 12 months aren’t as deep as Meta’s 72% drop, most of the other FAANGs have had a rough time, with losses of 40% to 60%. Only Apple Inc. has treaded water. “Investors are having a crisis of confidence in growth,” says Gene Munster, co-founder of Loup Ventures, a technology investment firm. Munster says if there’s a next step for social media beyond mobile phones, just a few companies will be able to dominate “and they’re one of them.”</p><p>But the message from shareholders so far has been clear: They don’t want to gamble on a next big thing that could take years to pay off, and they want better performance from the core social media brands. That’s a common-sense approach, but one that hasn’t always been applied to Big Tech, where winners often pivot from one business to the next as growth seems to top out. Netflix was DVDs in the mail, then streaming, then a Hollywood player to rival Walt Disney Co. Amazon was books, then a general retail colossus plus cloud computing plus microphones in your house. Facebook was a homepage for college students, then a news feed, and then morphed into mobile media with messaging and photos and video as it became Meta.</p><p>“Facebook proved itself to be a successful company that started with nothing and gained everything,” says Marshall Front, chief investment officer at Front Barnett Associates. “The question is, can they do this again? There is a lot of skepticism out there.” The new wariness may stem partly from how speculative the metaverse is. Meanwhile, the core existing business is slowing down. Meta averaged annual revenue growth of about 42% from 2013 through 2021. This year, the company’s sales are projected to shrink by 1%, according to the average of analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. That is, instead of getting out of the game entirely by following one of the first three outcomes above, you can close the current option and initiate a new chain with a different strike/expiration/premium combination as a single transaction. There are risks and advantages to this as we plan to describe later.</p><h2>Why $200 Looks attractive?</h2><ul><li><b>Trend:</b> Apart from being a nice round number, $200 is about 20% below the current market price, a bear market by itself by definition. That is on top of the 36% already lost from highs, making $200 more than 50% off from highs. In our view, that is a compelling enough pullback for a company that still has many growth avenues in front of it.</li><li><b>Valuation:</b> At $200, Tesla will be trading at a PEG ratio of less than 1. This is based on a forward multiple of 46 [$200 divided by forward EPS of $4.32] and the five year expected growth rate of 55%. As avid followers of Growth at Reasonable Price [GARP] would attest, a PEG of less than 1 makes a stock more attractive.</li><li><b>Technical:</b> From a technical standpoint, $200 has historically offered plenty of support to the stock. AMD is forecast to report $1.89 billion in computing and graphics sales, a relatively modest 31% rise from a year ago.</p>\n<p>In early April, shareholders from AMD and Xilinx Inc.&nbsp;approved a $35 billion wrap-up between the two companies. In March, the company announced a&nbsp;new gaming card.</p>\n<p><b>What to expect</b></p>\n<p>Earnings: Of the 34 analysts surveyed by FactSet, AMD on average is expected to post adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share, up from 35 cents a share expected at the beginning of the quarter and 18 cents a share reported in the year-ago period. Estimize, a software platform that crowdsources estimates from hedge-fund executives, brokerages, buy-side analysts and others, calls for earnings of 48 cents a share.</p>\n<p>Revenue: Back in January, AMD predicted first-quarter sales between $3.1 billion and $3.3 billion, while analysts on average had forecast revenue of $2.68 billion at the time. Now, 31 analysts, on average, expect revenue of $3.18 billion, up from the $1.79 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. Estimize expects revenue of $3.25 billion.</p>\n<p>Stock movement: In the first quarter, AMD shares fell 14.4%. In contrast, the PHLX Semiconductor Index gained 11.8%, the S&amp;P 500 index gained 5.8%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 2.8%.</p>\n<p><b>What analysts are saying</b></p>\n<p>Susquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Rolland, who has a positive rating and a $115 price target on AMD, said PC and graphics processing unit checks point to continued strong demand in the first quarter.</p>\n<p>\"While many believe upside is capped by capacity constraints, we believe AMD is quickly becoming [Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (2330.TW)] preferred 'CPU' partner, as Intel's IDM 2.0 strategy appears increasingly competitive to thefoundry,\" Rolland said. \"Therefore, we would not be surprised to see AMD receive more than enough wafers to track toward full-year guidance and perhaps beyond.\"</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSTLW\">Morgan Stanley</a> analyst Joseph Moore, who just reinstated estimates for AMD, said he expects strong earnings above the consensus from AMD with \"strong demand across the board, and supply constraints due to substrates and to a lesser extent wafers.\"</p>\n<p>Moore expects fab priority to keep going to high margin products like servers and \"enthusiast desktop microprocessors\" and \"lowest-margin customers that are strategic and sole sourced\" like Microsoft Corp.'s <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSFT\">$(MSFT)$</a> and Sony Group Corp.'s gaming consoles.</p>\n<p>\"With competitors also dealing with supply constraints, overall pricing should be healthy,\" Moore said. There are early signs that a shift is already under way: Growth has slowed or evaporated for Netflix and Meta, while the sheer size of Amazon, Apple and Alphabet means they’re unlikely to provide the huge returns in the future that they did in the past.</p><p>“We think it is unlikely the FAANG will lead the next tech bull cycle,” Richard Clode, a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, said by phone, adding that he has reduced his holdings of those stocks “very materially.” “We are at our lowest exposure to FAANG that we’ve been since the acronym was created.”</p><p>If it is indeed the end of the cycle for these companies, what an ending it’s been.</p><p>The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020 rocked the whole stock market, but after a blink-and-you-missed-it plunge, indexes came roaring back. Large-capitalization technology stocks including the FAANGs led the way as locked-down consumers ordered goods from Amazon, subscribed to Netflix to watch “Tiger King,” and spent hours scrolling through Facebook and searching on Google using iPhones.</p><p>But investors are reassessing their longer-term potential now that societies have reopened and higher interest rates around the world have damped risk appetites.</p><p>One of the biggest draws for investors has been the super-charged growth rates that technology companies offered. Now the growth looks more pedestrian.</p><p>“Superior” sales growth, the characteristic most associated with large-cap tech stocks, has vanished, at least for this year, Goldman Sachs strategists wrote in November. The bank’s strategists predict sales growth of 8% for megacap tech stocks in 2022, below the 13% growth expected for the broader S&amp;P 500 Index.</p><p>While Goldman does expect tech companies to deliver faster sales growth than the benchmark next year and in 2024, the gap is much smaller than the average of the past decade, the firm said.</p><p>“It’s very hard to grow those mega-revenues at very, very high growth rates the way that they did historically,”said Michael Nell, senior investment analyst and portfolio manager at UBS Asset Management. “While the megacap stocks have held up well, going forward it’s hard to see that they are necessarily going to drive performance from here.”</p><p>Meta shares shed a quarter of their value in one day in October after the Facebook owner’s sales forecast for the fourth quarter came in at the low end of analysts’ expectations amid a slowdown in the advertising market. Amazon.com slumped 7% a day later after projecting the slowest holiday-quarter growth in the firm’s history.</p><p>The example of past stock-market stars is sobering. Cisco Systems Inc. and Intel Corp., leaders in the dot-com boom of the late 1990s, have never climbed back to the highs they reached in 2000, while it took the Nasdaq 100 Index 15 years to surpass its 2000 peak.</p><p>Apple, the world’s largest company with a $2.3 trillion market value, has held up the best in this year’s bear market, falling 20%. The stock has been bolstered by the company’s cash pile of about $170 billion, marketable securities and demand for its latest iPhones.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e152f52682a9045bf5fb03327e9246de\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>The other stocks in the FAANG group have fallen more, ranging from Alphabet’s 36% drop to the 66% plunge of Meta. Even with the declines, the group still accounts for more than 10% of the S&amp;P 500 weighting, so subpar performance in coming years will be a big drag on the market.</p><p>And the pain in technology stocks looks set to continue next year. Analysts see profits for the industry contracting by 1.8% next year, compared with expected growth of 2.7% for the broader US market, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence.</p><p>Faced with a higher cost of borrowing and rising inflation, investors are becoming more exacting in terms of which companies they are willing to back. Big capital projects on unproven technologies, such as Meta’s bet on the metaverse, haven’t gone down well. A basket of money-losing tech stocks compiled by Goldman has plunged nearly 60% this year.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/214486c5a208a57b5ad666dcdbbce157\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>“The market’s telling them we want some near-term profitability and we can’t afford to fund all of your negative free cash flow. Get a bit more realistic: grow a little bit slower, but do it profitably,” said Neil Robson, head of global equities at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.</p><p>Robson is still overweight technology in his portfolios, though by a smaller amount than in the past. He still owns Amazon and Alphabet, though he’s also investing in companies that improve energy efficiency. UBS Asset Management’s Nell is finding opportunities in the software-as-a-service space and semiconductor stocks, while Janus Henderson’s Clode is looking toward energy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and at areas that could prove resilient in a recession, such as software firms that could help with productivity.</p><p>“Two years ago we could have thrown a dart at a FAANG dart board and we would’ve pretty much come up a winner, right?” said Dan Morgan, a senior portfolio manager at Synovus Trust Co. “Do we just blindly throw money into an ETF which just buys nothing but FAANG? There are early signs that a shift is already under way: Growth has slowed or evaporated for Netflix and Meta, while the sheer size of Amazon, Apple and Alphabet means they’re unlikely to provide the huge returns in the future that they did in the past.“We think it is unlikely the FAANG will lead the next tech bull cycle,” Richard Clode, a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, said by phone, adding that he has reduced his holdings of those stocks “very materially.” “We are at our lowest exposure to FAANG that we’ve been since the acronym was created.”If it is indeed the end of the cycle for these companies, what an ending it’s been.The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020 rocked the whole stock market, but after a blink-and-you-missed-it plunge, indexes came roaring back. Large-capitalization technology stocks including the FAANGs led the way as locked-down consumers ordered goods from Amazon, subscribed to Netflix to watch “Tiger King,” and spent hours scrolling through Facebook and searching on Google using iPhones.But investors are reassessing their longer-term potential now that societies have reopened and higher interest rates around the world have damped risk appetites.One of the biggest draws for investors has been the super-charged growth rates that technology companies offered. Now the growth looks more pedestrian.“Superior” sales growth, the characteristic most associated with large-cap tech stocks, has vanished, at least for this year, Goldman Sachs strategists wrote in November. The bank’s strategists predict sales growth of 8% for megacap tech stocks in 2022, below the 13% growth expected for the broader S&P 500 Index.While Goldman does expect tech companies to deliver faster sales growth than the benchmark next year and in 2024, the gap is much smaller than the average of the past decade, the firm said.“It’s very hard to grow those mega-revenues at very, very high growth rates the way that they did historically,”said Michael Nell, senior investment analyst and portfolio manager at UBS Asset Management. “While the megacap stocks have held up well, going forward it’s hard to see that they are necessarily going to drive performance from here.”Meta shares shed a quarter of their value in one day in October after the Facebook owner’s sales forecast for the fourth quarter came in at the low end of analysts’ expectations amid a slowdown in the advertising market. Amazon.com slumped 7% a day later after projecting the slowest holiday-quarter growth in the firm’s history.The example of past stock-market stars is sobering. Cisco Systems Inc. and Intel Corp., leaders in the dot-com boom of the late 1990s, have never climbed back to the highs they reached in 2000, while it took the Nasdaq 100 Index 15 years to surpass its 2000 peak.Apple, the world’s largest company with a $2.3 trillion market value, has held up the best in this year’s bear market, falling 20%. The stock has been bolstered by the company’s cash pile of about $170 billion, marketable securities and demand for its latest iPhones.The other stocks in the FAANG group have fallen more, ranging from Alphabet’s 36% drop to the 66% plunge of Meta. Even with the declines, the group still accounts for more than 10% of the S&P 500 weighting, so subpar performance in coming years will be a big drag on the market.And the pain in technology stocks looks set to continue next year. Analysts see profits for the industry contracting by 1.8% next year, compared with expected growth of 2.7% for the broader US market, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence.Faced with a higher cost of borrowing and rising inflation, investors are becoming more exacting in terms of which companies they are willing to back. Big capital projects on unproven technologies, such as Meta’s bet on the metaverse, haven’t gone down well. A basket of money-losing tech stocks compiled by Goldman has plunged nearly 60% this year.“The market’s telling them we want some near-term profitability and we can’t afford to fund all of your negative free cash flow. Get a bit more realistic: grow a little bit slower, but do it profitably,” said Neil Robson, head of global equities at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.Robson is still overweight technology in his portfolios, though by a smaller amount than in the past. He still owns Amazon and Alphabet, though he’s also investing in companies that improve energy efficiency. AMD’s revenue acceleration and strong gross margin expansion make a strong case for upside in the stock.</p>\n<p><b>Why AMD is worth $120</b></p>\n<p>Before I dive into AMD’s latestresults, let’s quickly recap what the firm’s guidance was for the last quarter. For Q2’21, AMD expected a minimum of $3.5B in revenues with “high case” guidance implying 7% revenue growth Q/Q and a gross margin of 47%.</p>\n<p>I expected AMD’s revenues to hit the high end of guidance ($3.7B), to have a minimum free cash flow of $895M (8% Q/Q growth) and a free cash flow margin of 24%. Given the acceleration of sales in higher-priced Ryzen desktop and notebook processors and GPUs as well as higher average selling prices/ASPs driven by broad-based strength in end markets, I expected AMD to beat its own margin guidance and report a gross margin of 48% for Q2’21. I also predicted a refreshment of AMD’s gross margin guidance due to strength in CPU and GPU ASPs. I laid out my forecast for AMD’s Q2’21 earnings in detail inAMD: On The Road To $5 Billion In Annual Free Cash Flow.</p>\n<p>Turning to AMD’s actual results, the semiconductor firm proved once more that it is firing on all cylinders. AMD’s Q2’21 revenues were $3,850M, $150M above the high-end of guidance and up 12% Q/Q, with revenue momentum continuing in both Graphics/Computing and Enterprise markets. Graphics/Computing revenues increased 7% Q/Q to $2,250M because of higher client and graphic processor sales as well as strengthening ASPs. Enterprise, which has become the driver of AMD’s sales growth in recent quarters, saw Q2'21 revenues of $1.6B, up 19% Q/Q. Enterprise revenues continued to accelerate in Q2'21, after AMD recorded 5% Q/Q revenue growth in Q1'21.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ec3e9d1f0b7d59915f9db8790725803\" tg-width=\"1039\" tg-height=\"587\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source:AMD)</span></p>\n<p>The most interesting revelation of AMD’s Q2’21 earnings, however, was the trend in gross margins. AMD's gross margin jumped 4 PP to 48%, 1 PP above guidance because of a better mix of higher-priced Ryzen processors (both mobile and desktop) and Radeon graphic cards. The uptick in gross margins in Q2’21 marked the third straight quarter of margin expansion for AMD and I don’t believe AMD has seen the end of this trend yet.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dca6426ffa1332827a6774554d499c36\" tg-width=\"1048\" tg-height=\"566\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source:AMD)</span></p>\n<p>Turning to cash flow.</p>\n<p>AMD reported cash flow from operating activities of $952M and free cash flow of $888M, $7M short of my expectation, but still almost six times more than a year ago. As AMD continues to see strong revenue growth tailwinds in both Computing/Graphics and Enterprise end markets, I believe AMD could grow its free cash flow margin to 30% by the end of next year. AMD raised its revenue guidance for FY 2021 (discussed later) by $1.0B which means I am also refreshing my free cash flow expectations for this year and next year.</p>\n<p>AMD expects to have revenues of $15.6B this year. Assuming a stable free cash flow margin of 23-24%, AMD is looking at free cash flow of $3.6B to $3.7B. Revenue estimates for next year are not refreshed yet, but AMD should have revenues of at least $20B in FY 2022 (assuming 25% Y/Y growth), implying free cash flow of $4.6B to $4.8B next year… and these estimates do not account for the possibility that AMD’s 3rd-gen EPYC Milan-powered server processors and higher-priced GPUs improve AMD’s free cash flow margin. A 30% free cash flow margin next year implies a free cash flow of $6.0B.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ea23b7429f2edd8ce6dda945a88daa7\" tg-width=\"819\" tg-height=\"593\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source: Author)</span></p>\n<table>\n <tbody>\n  <tr></tr>\n </tbody>\n</table>\n<p>AMD is guiding for $4.1B in revenues +/- $100 million and the firm refreshed its FY 2021 revenue and gross margin guidance (as predicted). AMD now expects 60% revenue growth for FY 2021 (before 50%) and a gross margin of 48% (before 47%). Assuming 60% revenue growth, AMD is now looking at full year revenues of $15.6B (before $14.6B), so AMD's new guidance calls for $1.0B in additional revenues that were so far not priced into AMD’s market value.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e5c3c579e4a6472ae2c495a325b9a2b\" tg-width=\"1038\" tg-height=\"572\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source:AMD)</span></p>\n<p>AMD’s higher gross margins and sales guidance create a potent force for the firm’s stock to revalue higher. Because of the recent dip in AMD’s shares and the addition of $1.0B in revenues, AMD’s dollar sales growth has become even cheaper after earnings. AMD’s dollar sales growth is valued lower than Nvidia’s and AMD is growing potentially at a faster rate: AMD's revenue guidance calls for 60% Y/Y growth and estimates for Nvidia imply \"only\" 49% Y/Y revenue growth for FY 2021. AMD has a market-capitalization-to-earnings ratio of 42.5 which is low for a firm that grows revenues 60% and that has a gross margin closing in on 50%.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/653c9dd9d37a4abd742703bd87dd3534\" tg-width=\"908\" tg-height=\"312\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source: Author)</span></p>\n<table>\n <tbody>\n  <tr></tr>\n </tbody>\n</table>\n<p>Nvidia’s P-E ratio based on an FY 2022 EPS of $17.29 is 44.5. If AMD earnings growth (FY 2022 EPS of $2.71) was valued the same as Nvidia’s, AMD’s fair price would be $120 ($2.71 x 44.5 earnings multiplier factor), indicating 17% upside.</p>\n<p><b>Challenges to my price target</b></p>\n<p>The biggest opportunities and the biggest risks for AMD are tied to gross margins. AMD is having a year of strong revenue acceleration and margin growth, which is the chief reason why I believe AMD can revalue higher. But gross margins can't grow 3-4 PP every quarter. If AMD's gross margin expansion slows, or worse, gross margins drop back to 40%, decreasing stock returns for AMD are likely. A reversal in the gross margin trend would change my opinion on AMD and put my $120 stock price target in jeopardy.</p>\n<p>Softening ASPs for CPUs and graphic chips are likely going to be the canary in the coal mine and could indicate weakening end markets for AMD ahead of time. Softer end markets imply AMD's revenue growth will slow which could result in a lower earnings multiplier factor by which AMD's profits are valued. I don't believe AMD is overvalued based on earnings, but the market may disagree with my assessment at any time.</p>\n<p><b>Final thoughts</b></p>\n<p>AMD reported impressive revenue growth and gross margins for Q2. AMD's raised guidance and Q/Q revenue acceleration indicate that end markets for CPUs and GPUs are a lot stronger than expected. This could lead to another year of revenue acceleration and a continual expansion of AMD’s gross margin to 50%, supported by rising ASPs. AMD’s revenue acceleration and strong gross margin expansion make a strong case for upside in the stock.\nWhy AMD is worth $120\nBefore I dive into AMD’s latestresults, let’s quickly recap what the firm’s guidance was for the last quarter. For Q2’21, AMD expected a minimum of $3.5B in revenues with “high case” guidance implying 7% revenue growth Q/Q and a gross margin of 47%.\nI expected AMD’s revenues to hit the high end of guidance ($3.7B), to have a minimum free cash flow of $895M (8% Q/Q growth) and a free cash flow margin of 24%. Given the acceleration of sales in higher-priced Ryzen desktop and notebook processors and GPUs as well as higher average selling prices/ASPs driven by broad-based strength in end markets, I expected AMD to beat its own margin guidance and report a gross margin of 48% for Q2’21. I also predicted a refreshment of AMD’s gross margin guidance due to strength in CPU and GPU ASPs. I laid out my forecast for AMD’s Q2’21 earnings in detail inAMD: On The Road To $5 Billion In Annual Free Cash Flow.\nTurning to AMD’s actual results, the semiconductor firm proved once more that it is firing on all cylinders. AMD’s Q2’21 revenues were $3,850M, $150M above the high-end of guidance and up 12% Q/Q, with revenue momentum continuing in both Graphics/Computing and Enterprise markets. Graphics/Computing revenues increased 7% Q/Q to $2,250M because of higher client and graphic processor sales as well as strengthening ASPs. Enterprise, which has become the driver of AMD’s sales growth in recent quarters, saw Q2'21 revenues of $1.6B, up 19% Q/Q. Enterprise revenues continued to accelerate in Q2'21, after AMD recorded 5% Q/Q revenue growth in Q1'21.\n(Source:AMD)\nThe most interesting revelation of AMD’s Q2’21 earnings, however, was the trend in gross margins. AMD's gross margin jumped 4 PP to 48%, 1 PP above guidance because of a better mix of higher-priced Ryzen processors (both mobile and desktop) and Radeon graphic cards. The uptick in gross margins in Q2’21 marked the third straight quarter of margin expansion for AMD and I don’t believe AMD has seen the end of this trend yet.\n(Source:AMD)\nTurning to cash flow.\nAMD reported cash flow from operating activities of $952M and free cash flow of $888M, $7M short of my expectation, but still almost six times more than a year ago. As AMD continues to see strong revenue growth tailwinds in both Computing/Graphics and Enterprise end markets, I believe AMD could grow its free cash flow margin to 30% by the end of next year. AMD raised its revenue guidance for FY 2021 (discussed later) by $1.0B which means I am also refreshing my free cash flow expectations for this year and next year.\nAMD expects to have revenues of $15.6B this year. Assuming a stable free cash flow margin of 23-24%, AMD is looking at free cash flow of $3.6B to $3.7B. Revenue estimates for next year are not refreshed yet, but AMD should have revenues of at least $20B in FY 2022 (assuming 25% Y/Y growth), implying free cash flow of $4.6B to $4.8B next year… and these estimates do not account for the possibility that AMD’s 3rd-gen EPYC Milan-powered server processors and higher-priced GPUs improve AMD’s free cash flow margin. A 30% free cash flow margin next year implies a free cash flow of $6.0B.\n(Source: Author)\n\n\n\n\n\nAMD is guiding for $4.1B in revenues +/- $100 million and the firm refreshed its FY 2021 revenue and gross margin guidance (as predicted). AMD now expects 60% revenue growth for FY 2021 (before 50%) and a gross margin of 48% (before 47%). Assuming 60% revenue growth, AMD is now looking at full year revenues of $15.6B (before $14.6B), so AMD's new guidance calls for $1.0B in additional revenues that were so far not priced into AMD’s market value.\n(Source:AMD)\nAMD’s higher gross margins and sales guidance create a potent force for the firm’s stock to revalue higher. Because of the recent dip in AMD’s shares and the addition of $1.0B in revenues, AMD’s dollar sales growth has become even cheaper after earnings. AMD’s dollar sales growth is valued lower than Nvidia’s and AMD is growing potentially at a faster rate: AMD's revenue guidance calls for 60% Y/Y growth and estimates for Nvidia imply \"only\" 49% Y/Y revenue growth for FY 2021. AMD has a market-capitalization-to-earnings ratio of 42.5 which is low for a firm that grows revenues 60% and that has a gross margin closing in on 50%.\n(Source: Author)\n\n\n\n\n\nNvidia’s P-E ratio based on an FY 2022 EPS of $17.29 is 44.5. If AMD earnings growth (FY 2022 EPS of $2.71) was valued the same as Nvidia’s, AMD’s fair price would be $120 ($2.71 x 44.5 earnings multiplier factor), indicating 17% upside.\nChallenges to my price target\nThe biggest opportunities and the biggest risks for AMD are tied to gross margins. AMD is having a year of strong revenue acceleration and margin growth, which is the chief reason why I believe AMD can revalue higher. But gross margins can't grow 3-4 PP every quarter. If AMD's gross margin expansion slows, or worse, gross margins drop back to 40%, decreasing stock returns for AMD are likely. A reversal in the gross margin trend would change my opinion on AMD and put my $120 stock price target in jeopardy.\nSoftening ASPs for CPUs and graphic chips are likely going to be the canary in the coal mine and could indicate weakening end markets for AMD ahead of time. Softer end markets imply AMD's revenue growth will slow which could result in a lower earnings multiplier factor by which AMD's profits are valued. I don't believe AMD is overvalued based on earnings, but the market may disagree with my assessment at any time.\nFinal thoughts\nAMD reported impressive revenue growth and gross margins for Q2. AMD's raised guidance and Q/Q revenue acceleration indicate that end markets for CPUs and GPUs are a lot stronger than expected. This could lead to another year of revenue acceleration and a continual expansion of AMD’s gross margin to 50%, supported by rising ASPs. TikTok, whose parent company is China-based ByteDance Ltd., said it still uses its own U.S. and Singapore data centers as backup but expects to delete U.S. user data from its own data centers and migrate fully to Oracle servers.</p><p>&#34;We know we are among the most scrutinized platforms from a security standpoint, and we aim to remove any doubt about the security of U.S. user data,&#34; Albert Calamug, who is responsible for TikTok&#39;s U.S. policy, said in a blog post Friday.</p><p>TikTok also said it would be working with Oracle to develop protocols for how data is accessed and managed. Oracle will audit compliance with those protocols.</p><p>TikTok has been trying to calm concerns its Chinese parent or even the Chinese government could gain access to the huge amounts of data it has on Americans and other users.</p><p>Placing more of that data on servers in the U.S. with a U.S. company won&#39;t be enough for many critics, as the physical location of data doesn&#39;t mean it&#39;s protected as long as others can have access, said Ray Wang, founder of Silicon Valley-based Constellation Research Inc., which advises organizations on cloud usage and other technology.</p><p>&#34;Even if the data is held only in U.S. servers, it doesn&#39;t mean that outsiders don&#39;t have access,&#34; he said. &#34;If these systems are intercommunicating with each other, and it happens to be a Chinese connection, how do you keep that separate? What are they doing to keep them separate?&#34;</p><p>In 2020, the issue of Chinese access to U.S. user data came to the forefront of the discussion surrounding TikTok. Then-President Donald Trump threatened to ban the app on national-security grounds. A host of U.S. companies swooped in with offers to buy the platform, promising to protect the data of U.S. users.</p><p>Microsoft Corp. was an early suitor to acquire the app, but the deal soon hit snags when it became apparent that ByteDance wouldn&#39;t share the app&#39;s core algorithm, the powerful program which helps match content to consumers.</p><p>Soon afterward, Oracle, along with Walmart Inc., won a bid to acquire TikTok&#39;s U.S. operations.
