But my feeling is that more and more people will have it at least sometimes, as a token to the environment, or out of animal love, or for health reasons. Or a KFC, or a Pizza Hut or, or a Taco Bell for that matter.

So it’s important to remember that we are in unusual times. And unusual things happen in unusual times.

And if that means that a company like Beyond Meat has to offer discounts, write off some inventory, or absorb extra costs, so be it. After all, nobody could have planned for a health crisis coming along and shutting down all the restaurants and sending people indoors for protection.

As investors, we should be thinking longer-term.

That means we should be looking at the long-term potential for revenue and earnings growth despite the near-term challenges.

Let’s take revenue first. In the just-reported quarter, the company managed to grow sales just 3.5% from the year-ago period, as softness at foodservice offset tremendous growth at retail (both in the U.S and international markets).

People generally buy familiar brands at grocery stores. So the surge in sales indicates strong underlying demand and growing brand awareness.

Okay, so it’s offering discounts. But so is prime competitor Impossible Foods. Management commentary also indicates that the absorption of higher fixed cost from operating below capacity in the prior quarter was a bigger driver of weakness.

The company is also adding IT infrastructure, it’s also adding headcount in an effort to boost R&D and marketing and support international expansion in Europe and China. It’s also adding production capacity in these two international markets.

So while on the one hand we are seeing it building its own brand and internal capabilities, on the other, it is signing long-term deals with leading brands like McDonalds, Yum Brands (YUM Quick QuoteYUM-Free Report) and Pepsico (PEP Quick QuotePEP-Free Report) . When you’re mainly selling into mom n pops, business can be more uncertain. But when you’re selling into recognized leaders in foodservice with deeper pockets to withstand near-term issues, and also testing the water in healthy snacks, the business will obviously be more stable.

But all this wouldn’t be as good if Beyond Meat wasn’t a great innovator. And it has made great strides in this. It has moved on from its burger patty to create sausage and meatballs. Its agreement with McDonalds includes a promise of co-developed plant-based chicken, pork and eggs. Its agreement with Yum includes the creation of signature menu items in different plant-based categories.

Zacks Estimates currently expect the company to swing to a profit this year while growing revenues 53.8%. Both these numbers are due for a revision given the new deals and expected increase in costs (the commencement of production at international facilities should have a mitigating effect on cost and reduce logistics complications).

While trading below their median value over the past year, Beyond Meat shares aren’t cheap. Morgan Says Now Is the Time to Bet on the S&P 500","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129467108","media":"Barrons","summary":"Don’t worry. Be greedy.Even though investor fears are rising, and the stock market is getting bullie","content":"
Don’t worry. Be greedy.

Even though investor fears are rising, and the stock market is getting bullied by rising bond yields,J.P. Morganstrategists have told their clients that now is the time to embrace stocks.

TheS&P 500may be waffling around 3875, but the bank is standing by its 2021 year-end price target of 4400 on a range of 4200 to 4600. Its numbers aren’t merely some derivative of the stock market’s expected earnings. Instead, they reflect America’s economic reawakening after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shawn Quigg, a J.P. Morgan derivatives strategist, recently told clients that there is little to stand in the way of the market’s achievement of “such gains sooner than later, particularly considering the numerous catalysts ahead, their impact on volatility, and the implications that will have on investor positioning.”

As President Joe Biden’s administration champions a $1.9 trillion stimulus program, and Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations decline, Quigg anticipates stocks surging. His view is somewhat at odds with recent trading. Stocks have declined as the 10-year Treasury note yield has increased to about 1.38%, a move that is fanning inflation fearsand worries about stock slumps.

Quigg likes taking advantage of the fear and the pending stimulus program, which Biden has begun to defend against concerns that it is too large. In various interviews, the president has challenged critics to tell him what to cut at a time when so much of the nation is suffering. The Biden administration is now warning that the greatest risk isn’t a large stimulus package, but one that is too small and thus doesn’t meaningfully stimulate economic growth.

To position for the stock market to surge higher, Quigg advised clients to consider selling one of the SPDR S&P 500 ETF‘s (ticker: SPY) May $353 put options and buying 15 May $450 call options. When the ETF was at $392.39, the leveraged risk-reversal strategy—that is,selling one put and buying many more calls with a higher strike price but the same expiration—could be done for no cost. In other words, the money received for selling the put was enough to buy 15 bullish calls.

The trade expresses high conviction that the ETF—which was recently trading around $387—will reach $450 by May 21, when May options expire. At $460, the call is worth $10.

Should the ETF decline, say, because current fears push the market below the $353 strike price, investors would be obligated to buy it at the lower price, or to cover or adjust the puts.

Quigg’s trade idea has a lot to admire.

For one, the trade carried zero cost when it was recommended late last week. Yes, prices have moved since the Feb. 18 note was published, but investors can recast strike prices to create similar pricing. The markets change, and that’s why there are so many different strike prices that are listed.

Moreover, if J.P. Be greedy.Even though investor fears are rising, and the stock market is getting bullied by rising bond yields,J.P. Morganstrategists have told their clients that now is the time to embrace stocks.TheS&P 500may be waffling around 3875, but the bank is standing by its 2021 year-end price target of 4400 on a range of 4200 to 4600. Its numbers aren’t merely some derivative of the stock market’s expected earnings. Instead, they reflect America’s economic reawakening after the Covid-19 pandemic.Shawn Quigg, a J.P. Morgan derivatives strategist, recently told clients that there is little to stand in the way of the market’s achievement of “such gains sooner than later, particularly considering the numerous catalysts ahead, their impact on volatility, and the implications that will have on investor positioning.”As President Joe Biden’s administration champions a $1.9 trillion stimulus program, and Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations decline, Quigg anticipates stocks surging. His view is somewhat at odds with recent trading. Stocks have declined as the 10-year Treasury note yield has increased to about 1.38%, a move that is fanning inflation fearsand worries about stock slumps.Quigg likes taking advantage of the fear and the pending stimulus program, which Biden has begun to defend against concerns that it is too large. At $460, the call is worth $10.Should the ETF decline, say, because current fears push the market below the $353 strike price, investors would be obligated to buy it at the lower price, or to cover or adjust the puts.Quigg’s trade idea has a lot to admire. For one, the trade carried zero cost when it was recommended late last week. Yes, prices have moved since the Feb. 18 note was published, but investors can recast strike prices to create similar pricing. The markets change, and that’s why there are so many different strike prices that are listed. Moreover, if J.P. Morgan’s base view of the economic reawakening proves true, owning a bundle of upside calls that cost nothing could be quite lucrative. Should the market succumb to the current fears that are weakening prices, owning S&P 500 stocks at lower prices isn’t terrible, either.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":264,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":363085467,"gmtCreate":1614083448259,"gmtModify":1704887851994,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3559818694287768","authorIdStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting!","listText":"Interesting!","text":"Interesting!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/363085467","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":121,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":369033747,"gmtCreate":1613986901789,"gmtModify":1704886482759,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3559818694287768","authorIdStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/369033747","repostId":"1152031988","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1152031988","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1613985392,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1152031988?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-22 17:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The Hopes That Rose and Fell With GameStop","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1152031988","media":"The New York Times","summary":"Fueled by amateur traders and online enthusiasm, the struggling retailer’s shares took investors on ","content":"
Fueled by amateur traders and online enthusiasm, the struggling retailer’s shares took investors on a ride like no other. And by the end of a wild two-week ride where fortunes were made and lost, some just hoped they’d be able to pay their rent.

Winners and losers are made every day on Wall Street. And for a while, the unlikely trading boom around the stock of the beleaguered video game retailerGameStopput the little guy on top. Breathtaking fortunes appeared overnight.

But they disappeared almost as quickly.

At its highest point,GameStop’s share price was $483. On Friday, the stock was worth $40.59. The trading frenzy — powered by online hype over a rebellion against traditional Wall Street powers — had created, and then destroyed, roughly $30 billion in on-paper wealth.

Many small-time investors who got caught up in the mania as it peaked lost big. Timing a trade perfectly is nearly impossible even for the best stock pickers, so even those who made money missed out on far greater riches if they didn’t sell at the rally’s peak.

Whether they set out to make a mint or make a point, these traders rode the GameStop wave up — and down.

Shawn Daumer, 19, near his office in Crown Point, Ind. Shawn Daumer went to Hooters.

Armed with money partly from high school graduation gifts and winnings from trades on stocks like Tesla, Mr. Daumer had spent about $47,000on shares of GameStop the week before it went through the roof.

It was Jan. 26 — just two days into GameStop’s big week— when he and his brother hit up Hooters, scarfed down 30 wings and got 10 more to go. Two days later, GameStop hit its intraday peak of $483 and Mr. Daumer, a real estate broker in Valparaiso, Ind., was holding 1,233 shares. He was up more than a half-million dollars on his initial investment.

Mr. Daumer traced his interest in GameStop to the same place many others did: Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum, where armchair traders gather for raunchy jokes, tales of success and even to brag about enormous losses.

Understand What Happened With GameStop

Shares in GameStop, the video retailer, have crashed from their January highs, which were driven by memes on social media.

Amateur traders egging on one another on Redditbet heavily on shares of the company in January, sending the price up more than 1,700 percent at one point.

The wave was in part aimed athurting large hedge funds that had been short selling — betting against — GameStop stock. Some of those fundsexperienced huge losses as a result.

But many of the individual investors who pumped up the stock could lose huge amounts of money, too. Somebelieve the price will go back up and are refusing to sell, even as the share price has collapsed.

Now, regulators are looking into how the rally started and whethernew rules should be created because of it.

“Really the biggest part is once you see everybody buying shares day after day, and seeing it live on your own screen, and watching it go up,” Mr. Daumer said in the midst of GameStop’s surge. “It’s follow the trend, you know? If that’s the trend, follow it and it makes you money.”

But GameStop’s stock abruptly turned down when the trading app Robinhood and other brokerage firms announced a slew of restrictions on the trading of a handful of stocks that had been spiking. Mr. Daumer had about $200,000 in potential profits evaporate almost immediately.

“I’m still up 500 percent,” he said at the time. “I’m OK.” Besides, Mr. Daumer and his fellow Redditors believed GameStop would soar once more: “We’re going to $1,000,” he said.

They never came close.

Last week,as the stock plunged 72 percent in two days, he’d had enough. Mr. Daumer put in an order to sell on Tuesday afternoon, and the order was filled Wednesday morning at a price of $91.22.

He walked away with more than $65,000 in profit, more than doubling his investment.

Not everyone was so lucky.

A Rude Awakening

Nora Samir held her GameStop shares too long and lost more than half of what she invested.Credit...David Maurice Smith for The New York Times

It seemed like a dream to Nora Samir.

She woke up in the middle of the night of Jan. 27 at her home in Sydney. On the other side of the world, GameStop was soaring.

The $735 she’d put in the day before had doubled. She raced downstairs to tell her mother, who was sleeping.

“Nora, don’t be greedy,” her mother warned. “You need to take it out.”

But Ms. Samir, 24, a child-health researcher at the University of New South Wales and a stock market neophyte,

didn’t sell — she bought.

After investing about $800 more, she owned just over nine shares of GameStop. She later plowed $1,800 into BlackBerry, the cellphone maker that once dominated mobile email and hadbeen swept up in the frenzy.

“I was on a high,” she admitted. “When the stock is going up, you don’t think of how low it can go.”

The high didn’t last long — and the fall was made worse when her trading app crashed, leaving her with little choice but to hold on while GameStop shares plunged.

She managed to sell one share on the way down, for $134. The shares she still owned on Friday were worth $528. She’s lost more than half what she put into GameStop.

The lesson, Ms. Samir said: “Don’t be greedy.”

You Only Live Once

Jacob Chalfant, a high school senior from Westfield, N.J., enjoyed how his “diamond hands” were putting the squeeze on Wall Street’s hedge funds.

A poster on WallStreetBets since he was 15, Mr. Chalfant, now 18, relished the GameStop rally for the pressure it put on firms like Melvin Capital, which had bet that GameStop’s shares would fall.

In the parlance of Reddit, Mr. Chalfant’s diamond-hard hands won’t fold, unlike the “paper hands” of sellers. He’s still holding the shares he bought for $1,035 — about a month’s wages from his job at a pizza shop and his freelance photography business — when GameStop was trading at $290. On Friday, his investment was worth $220.

“I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ve already lost the money,” he said. “Realistically, the stock is not going to go where it was before.”

But the losses are an investment, too, Mr. Chalfant said. They’ve earned him “internet points” on WallStreetBets. “If you’re saying, ‘I’m still holding,’ you have more clout than if you didn’t,” he said.

(Many on the WallStreetBets forum insist that GameStop’s shares may surge again. On the other hand, another Reddit forum opened last week where users share tales of losses from trading the stock whose ticker symbol is GME: GMEbagholdersclub.)

Mr. Chalfant said he and other teenage traders enjoy the gamification of the investing, and many of his friends had gotten in on GameStop just because they thought it was funny, not to make money.

“We’re living in a system where there’s no such thing as justice anymore and the entire world is falling apart,” Mr. Chalfant said. “Nothing really matters, so we might as well try to have fun while we’re here.”

Collateral Damage

Terrell Jones didn’t need to invest in GameStop to lose money off the frenzy.

Mr. Jones, a college student from Kenosha, Wis., bought $300 in shares of AMC, the movie theater chain whose stock was also swept up in the attempt to squeeze the short sellers who profit as stocks decline.

“I just got caught up in the social media hype and just dove right into it,” he said. “I fell for it.”

When AMC started to fall and he had lost $112, Mr. Jones, 24, panicked.

“I just had to get out of there as soon as possible,” he said. “It’s a lot of money, we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I have rent that needs to be paid.”

Mr. Jones, 24, had never invested in the stock market before. Now, though, he feels that he learned a lesson.

“I realized pretty quick that people like me were up against those billionaires,” he said. “And at the end of the day, those people always find a way to win.”

Losing His Head

“This is money I have already written off,” said C. Arthur Davitt is a model of financial discipline.

He automatically sweeps $200 a month into an index fund, saves enough to get a company match on his 401(k) and has been aggressively paying down his $35,000 in graduate school debt.

But Mr. Davitt, 29, thought it might be fun to get in on some of the skyrocketing stocks. He put less than $1,500 in GameStop and AMC — the GameStop portion is now down by nearly half, and his stake in AMC lost more than 20 percent.

“I am not a gambler by nature,” he said, “and this is money I have already written off.”

Mr. Davitt, who lives in Chicago and works for a company that provides worker assistance programs for employers, figures he might as well hold on to both companies. GameStop just named several new executives, which could help inject new life into the company, he said, and AMC could see a bounce once more people start venturing out of their homes.

“If I didn’t like GameStop or AMC,” Mr. Davitt said, “I wouldn’t be finding this as enjoyable.”

Another on the Line

By almost any measure, Mr. Daumer, the Indiana teenager, is one of the winners of the GameStop trade. He more than doubled his money, even if he didn’t score the biggest possible payday.

“Do you fish?” he asked, searching for a way to explain the experience.

When you’re fishing, he said, and you feel a tug on your line, it might be just a nibble or it might be a bite. He thought it was just a small nibble, and decided to wait.

“The fish got away,” he said.

But there are others out there to be hooked, he said. He’s already dabbling in shares of a penny stock, Castor Maritime, which is based in Cyprus. On Friday, they were worth $220.Credit...Bryan Anselm for The New York TimesSome wanted to be on the front lines of a revolution. Some wanted to be rich. And by the end of a wild two-week ride where fortunes were made and lost, some just hoped they’d be able to pay their rent.Winners and losers are made every day on Wall Street. Timing a trade perfectly is nearly impossible even for the best stock pickers, so even those who made money missed out on far greater riches if they didn’t sell at the rally’s peak.Whether they set out to make a mint or make a point, these traders rode the GameStop wave up — and down.Shawn Daumer, 19, near his office in Crown Point, Ind. He said he sold his GameStop shares last week and walked away with more than $65,000 in profit.Credit...Evan Jenkins for The New York TimesMoney on the TableWhat do you do when you’re 19 and suddenly holding a quarter-million dollars in stock? Shawn Daumer went to Hooters.Armed with money partly from high school graduation gifts and winnings from trades on stocks like Tesla, Mr. Daumer had spent about $47,000on shares of GameStop the week before it went through the roof.It was Jan. He was up more than a half-million dollars on his initial investment.Mr. Daumer traced his interest in GameStop to the same place many others did: Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum, where armchair traders gather for raunchy jokes, tales of success and even to brag about enormous losses.Understand What Happened With GameStopShares in GameStop, the video retailer, have crashed from their January highs, which were driven by memes on social media.Amateur traders egging on one another on Redditbet heavily on shares of the company in January, sending the price up more than 1,700 percent at one point. Now, regulators are looking into how the rally started and whethernew rules should be created because of it.“Really the biggest part is once you see everybody buying shares day after day, and seeing it live on your own screen, and watching it go up,” Mr. Daumer said in the midst of GameStop’s surge. “It’s follow the trend, you know? If that’s the trend, follow it and it makes you money.”But GameStop’s stock abruptly turned down when the trading app Robinhood and other brokerage firms announced a slew of restrictions on the trading of a handful of stocks that had been spiking. Mr. Daumer had about $200,000 in potential profits evaporate almost immediately.“I’m still up 500 percent,” he said at the time. “I’m OK.” Besides, Mr. Daumer and his fellow Redditors believed GameStop would soar once more: “We’re going to $1,000,” he said. They never came close.Last week,as the stock plunged 72 percent in two days, he’d had enough. Mr. Daumer put in an order to sell on Tuesday afternoon, and the order was filled Wednesday morning at a price of $91.22.He walked away with more than $65,000 in profit, more than doubling his investment. Not everyone was so lucky.A Rude AwakeningNora Samir held her GameStop shares too long and lost more than half of what she invested.Credit...David Maurice Smith for The New York TimesIt seemed like a dream to Nora Samir. She woke up in the middle of the night of Jan. 27 at her home in Sydney. On the other side of the world, GameStop was soaring. The $735 she’d put in the day before had doubled. She raced downstairs to tell her mother, who was sleeping.“Nora, don’t be greedy,” her mother warned. “You need to take it out.”But Ms. Samir, 24, a child-health researcher at the University of New South Wales and a stock market neophyte, didn’t sell — she bought. After investing about $800 more, she owned just over nine shares of GameStop. She later plowed $1,800 into BlackBerry, the cellphone maker that once dominated mobile email and hadbeen swept up in the frenzy.“I was on a high,” she admitted. “When the stock is going up, you don’t think of how low it can go.”The high didn’t last long — and the fall was made worse when her trading app crashed, leaving her with little choice but to hold on while GameStop shares plunged. She managed to sell one share on the way down, for $134. The shares she still owned on Friday were worth $528. She’s lost more than half what she put into GameStop. The lesson, Ms. Samir said: “Don’t be greedy.”You Only Live OnceJacob Chalfant, a high school senior from Westfield, N.J., enjoyed how his “diamond hands” were putting the squeeze on Wall Street’s hedge funds.A poster on WallStreetBets since he was 15, Mr. Chalfant, now 18, relished the GameStop rally for the pressure it put on firms like Melvin Capital, which had bet that GameStop’s shares would fall.In the parlance of Reddit, Mr. Chalfant’s diamond-hard hands won’t fold, unlike the “paper hands” of sellers. He’s still holding the shares he bought for $1,035 — about a month’s wages from his job at a pizza shop and his freelance photography business — when GameStop was trading at $290. On Friday, his investment was worth $220.“I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ve already lost the money,” he said. “Realistically, the stock is not going to go where it was before.”But the losses are an investment, too, Mr. Chalfant said. They’ve earned him “internet points” on WallStreetBets. “If you’re saying, ‘I’m still holding,’ you have more clout than if you didn’t,” he said.(Many on the WallStreetBets forum insist that GameStop’s shares may surge again. On the other hand, another Reddit forum opened last week where users share tales of losses from trading the stock whose ticker symbol is GME: GMEbagholdersclub.)Mr. Chalfant said he and other teenage traders enjoy the gamification of the investing, and many of his friends had gotten in on GameStop just because they thought it was funny, not to make money.“We’re living in a system where there’s no such thing as justice anymore and the entire world is falling apart,” Mr. Chalfant said. “Nothing really matters, so we might as well try to have fun while we’re here.”Collateral DamageTerrell Jones didn’t need to invest in GameStop to lose money off the frenzy.Mr. Jones, a college student from Kenosha, Wis., bought $300 in shares of AMC, the movie theater chain whose stock was also swept up in the attempt to squeeze the short sellers who profit as stocks decline.“I just got caught up in the social media hype and just dove right into it,” he said. “I fell for it.”When AMC started to fall and he had lost $112, Mr. Jones, 24, panicked.“I just had to get out of there as soon as possible,” he said. “It’s a lot of money, we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I have rent that needs to be paid.”Mr. Jones, 24, had never invested in the stock market before. Now, though, he feels that he learned a lesson.“I realized pretty quick that people like me were up against those billionaires,” he said. “And at the end of the day, those people always find a way to win.”Losing His Head“This is money I have already written off,” said C. Arthur Davitt, who lives in Chicago.Credit...Lyndon French for The New York TimesOrdinarily, C. He put less than $1,500 in GameStop and AMC — the GameStop portion is now down by nearly half, and his stake in AMC lost more than 20 percent.“I am not a gambler by nature,” he said, “and this is money I have already written off.”Mr. Davitt, who lives in Chicago and works for a company that provides worker assistance programs for employers, figures he might as well hold on to both companies. GameStop just named several new executives, which could help inject new life into the company, he said, and AMC could see a bounce once more people start venturing out of their homes.“If I didn’t like GameStop or AMC,” Mr. Davitt said, “I wouldn’t be finding this as enjoyable.”Another on the LineBy almost any measure, Mr. Daumer, the Indiana teenager, is one of the winners of the GameStop trade. He more than doubled his money, even if he didn’t score the biggest possible payday.“Do you fish?” he asked, searching for a way to explain the experience. When you’re fishing, he said, and you feel a tug on your line, it might be just a nibble or it might be a bite. If you wait to feel a stronger tug, you risk losing the fish you didn’t know you had.The peak, he said, was that kind of moment. He thought it was just a small nibble, and decided to wait.“The fish got away,” he said. But there are others out there to be hooked, he said. He’s already dabbling in shares of a penny stock, Castor Maritime, which is based in Cyprus. It’s up over 300 percent so far this year. What kind of business is the company in?“You know what? I wish I could tell you,” Mr. Daumer said. “I just like the numbers.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":32,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3566689258209455","authorId":"3566689258209455","name":"ozy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/301e2056c724e0bde9141a13dfb0cce3","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3566689258209455","authorIdStr":"3566689258209455"},"content":"tp The chief executive of Tesla Inc , whose recent tweets have fueled the digital-currency rally, made the remark on Twitter while replying to a user who said that gold was better than both bitcoin and conventional cash. Musk, who earlier in the week remarked that he found the prospect of holding bitcoin adventurous for an S&P 500 company, said in a tweet: \"Money is just data that allows us to avoid the inconvenience of barter ...\" \"That said, BTC & ETH do seem high lol,\" he added. Bitcoin , the world's most popular cryptocurrency, hit a fresh high in Asian trading on Saturday, extending a two-month rally a day after the digital currency's market capitalization exceeded $1 trillion. Ethereum or ether is the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and daily volume. Musk, an ardent proponent of digital currencies, has defended Tesla's recent purchase of $1.5 billion of bitcoin, which has ignited mainstream interest in the digital currency. When Will Yields Start Hurting the Stock Market?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1114166601","media":"Barrons","summary":"After a long grind higher in long-term Treasury yields, the 30-year climbed above 2% for the first t","content":"
After a long grind higher in long-term Treasury yields, the 30-year climbed above 2% for the first time since Covid-19 hit. That has investors asking when the broader trend of rising bond yields will hurt the stock market.

The central concern is that once Treasury yields climb high enough investors will want to buy safe bonds instead of stocks or high-yield debt. But it isn’t clear when that will occur, and the 30-year bond carries extra risk of losses as yields keep rising. When it comes to the 10-year note, a more popular benchmark,Wall Street consensus is hard to find: Strategists’ forecasts say 10-year Treasury yields may need to rise only to 1.75%, or as high as 5%, to make them more attractive than those riskier alternatives.

Yields on long-term Treasuries have been rising steadily since late August, and more quickly since Nov. 9, whenPfizerand BioNTech announced an effective Covid-19 vaccine. The 30-year yield was hovering near 2% Monday after breaching that level in morning trading—up from 1.6% before the vaccine. The benchmark 10-year yield has climbed as well, rising to 1.2% Monday from 0.8% before the vaccine.

Long-term yields had retreated from their morning highs by Monday afternoon amid concerns about Covid-19 vaccine distribution and the pace of global economic reopening, with the 10-year yield off one basis points (hundredth of a percentage point) and the 30-year yield down three basis points.

But the expectation remains for yields to keep climbing over coming weeks and months. And a key question is how high yields need to be to dent stock-market returns. Several Wall Street strategists have tackled that puzzle in recent notes.

Almost 70% of S&P 500 companies pay a higher yield than the 10-year note, wrote a team led by equity strategist Savita Subramanianin a recent note. That proportion would fall to 40% if companies keep their payouts at current levels and the Treasury yield rises to 1.75% by the end of this year, they found.

That could start undermining the attractiveness of stocks as an income play; today the overall dividend yield on the S&P 500 is 1.5%, higher than the 10-year Treasury payout. That has helped offset concerns about valuations that are higher than historical averages.

Yet the picture looks far better for stocks from a total-return perspective. The implied long-term return of the S&P 500 is around 3%, the bank’s equity strategists wrote.

Wall Street strategists don’t expect the 10-year note to be able to challenge that return soon. In a January outlook piece,Bank of America’sinterest-rate strategists predicted that 3% will be the benchmark yield’s peak during this expansion, implying yields won’t reach those levels until the Fed starts raising interest rates. And according to some of the bank’s valuation models, all else equal, stocks will look cheap compared to Treasuries until yields rise to 5%.

More important, a 3% return from the S&P 500 will still outpace akey market gauge of inflation expectations over the next decade. That indicator, called the break-even inflation rate, has been driven higher by improving growth expectations as the U.S. recovers from the Covid-19 crisis. On Monday it hit 2.2%, the highest level since 2014.

The 10-year Treasury yield, in contrast, remains below market inflation forecasts over that period, and is expected to stay that way through the end of this year at least. Even higher inflation-adjusted yields may not hurt stocks, wrote Credit Suisse strategist Jonathan Golub in a Feb. 8 note, as the boost stocks get from stronger economic growth should outweigh the bond market’s relative improvement in yield.

In another positive for stocks, rising yields aren’t negatively affecting large-cap U.S. companies’ balance sheets. The effective yield on the ICE BofA Corporate Index, a gauge of current borrowing costs for high-rated companies, remains at just 1.9% for a maturity of nearly 12 years. And last year’s record-setting flood of fixed-rate borrowing means that companies won’t need to refinance their debt for years.

There is one way that rising rates are negatively affecting at least some stocks: Investors are less willing to wait for profit growth,Goldman Sachsstrategists wrote in a Feb. 7 note. Stocks that are sensitive to economic growth and “value” stocks that underperformed during the pandemic have outperformed since the 10-year yield climbed above 1%, they found, because investors are discounting future cash flows at a higher rate. The Russell 2000 Value ETF (IWN) has climbed 14% so far this year.

Goldman strategists wrote that a quick jump in Treasury yields would be dangerous for the stock market as a whole. But the bank estimated that real damage would require yields to rise 36 basis points in the span of a month. That looks unlikely, considering the fact that it took yields about three months to climb that far during the latest attention-grabbing move higher.

Of course, the rise in yields will likely require some changes in the way that money managers who allocate cash across different markets make their decisions, strategists and investors say. Hedge fund D.E. Shaw recently found that long-term bonds should serve as a betterhedge against declines in the stock marketas yields rise.

So bonds will likely become marginally more attractive in coming months. But it isn’t clear that such a shift will be enough to undermine stocks, especially as long-term bond returns are most at risk from rising yields. So while Treasuries could provide a better alternative to stocks some day, that process could take longer than investors might think.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":166,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":382134894,"gmtCreate":1613381171318,"gmtModify":1704880199410,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I think today is a good day","listText":"I think today is a good day","text":"I think today is a good day","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/382134894","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":86,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3566689258209455","authorId":"3566689258209455","name":"ozy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/301e2056c724e0bde9141a13dfb0cce3","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3566689258209455","idStr":"3566689258209455"},"content":"tomorrow will be a good day","text":"tomorrow will be a good day","html":"tomorrow will be a good day"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":386929869,"gmtCreate":1613128320851,"gmtModify":1704878665325,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Today is a good day","listText":"Today is a good day","text":"Today is a good day","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/386929869","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":46,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":360694102,"gmtCreate":1613898060306,"gmtModify":1704885786536,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/360694102","repostId":"2112881103","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2112881103","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1613723004,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2112881103?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-19 16:23","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Copper rallies to $8,700 level on supply worries, weak dollar","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2112881103","media":"Reuters","summary":"Feb 19 (Reuters) - Because of that, only a handle of ESG exchange-traded funds and mutual funds own the company.
\n
Outgoing CEO Jeff Bezos, the founder of the e-commerce giant, has “actually done the hard stuff, the hardest stuff being operations,” says Andrew Behar, CEO of As You Sow, a nonprofit shareholder advocacy group. “On other issues, though, he’s completely not even thinking about them.”
\n
Bezos will retain an influential position in the company as executive chairman and one of its largest shareholders. Jassy, the new CEO, is now the head of Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud-computing business.
\n
Inhis letter to Amazon’s workforce, Bezos tried to burnish his ESG credentials:
\n
“As Amazon became large, we decided to use our scale and scope to lead on important social issues. Two high-impact examples: our $15 minimum wage and theClimate Pledge. In both cases, we staked out leadership positions and then asked others to come along with us. In both cases, it’s working. Other large companies are coming our way. I hope you’re proud of that as well.”
\n
Natasha Lamb, managing partner at Arjuna Capital, a sustainable and impact investment firm focusing on workplace issues for women and people of color, disputes Bezos’ claim of being a leader in these two areas, saying that there was great pressure on the company to increase worker pay and to sign the climate pledge.
\n
“He is not the poster child of the American dream, but of what is eating America alive, which is growing inequality,” she says.
\n
Amazonincreasedthe minimum wage to $15 in 2018 after years of criticism that it mistreated and underpaid workers, and the company caughtflakfor what workers said were poor health conditions in the pandemic. It is also fightinga unionization attempt at a warehouse in Alabama.
\n
Emanuele Colonnelli, an assistant professor of finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business who has done ESG research, agrees with Lamb. “A lot of the most promising steps toward ESG seem reactionary, as they have been taken only recently, at a moment in which regulatory and public pressure reached sky-high levels that became impossible to ignore,” he says.
\n
Although Amazon installed a higher minimum wage,MSCI considers the company a laggard when it comes to corporate behavior and labor management. Overall, MSCI gives Amazon a BBB rating, saying it is average for companies in the retail-consumer discretionary space.
\n
Lamb says Amazon has become what Walmartwas in the 1990s, criticized for shuttering small businesses. During the coronavirus, “everybody has become so reliant on Amazon, and those patterns are sticky. It has grave implications for small business.”
\n
Colonnelli says Amazon’s monopoly power can’t be denied and should be at the core of its ESG considerations. “It will be up to Jassy – and Bezos of course- to decide whether they want to be driving the change toward a business model that is less prone to anti-competitive practices, and therefore lead to a more equitable allocation of rents,” he says.
\n
A ‘real opportunity’ to be a leader
\n
Behar says As You Sow has interviewed Amazon employees and says the company has a “real opportunity” to be a leader on human capital management, such as increasing hourly employee wages, improving health care benefits, especially during the pandemic, and paid leave, as well as improving efforts around diversity equity inclusion.
\n
Lamb says with a new CEO coming on board, she wants greater clarity about defining gender and racial pay equity and to address diversity as a whole, noting that there are very few women and people of color in the company’s upper ranks. She says other shareholders are asking for a racial equity audit and for a worker representative on the board of directors, “which I think would be helpful.”
\n
Climate inroads
\n
When it comes to its climate pledge, Amazon is making some inroads. BloombergNEF said Amazon was the leading corporate buyer of clean energy in 2020, signing 35 separate clean energy power-purchasing agreements, totaling 5.1 gigawatts of power. BNEF says Amazon has now purchased over 7.5GW of clean energy to date, pushing it ahead of Alphabet GOOGL at 6.6GW and Facebook FB at 5.9GW as the world’s largest clean-energy buyer.
\n

\n
Garvin Jabush, chief investment officer at Green Alpha Advisors, says Amazon’s investments in renewable energy and its $440 million investment in electric-truck start up Rivian are all impressive starts, but the company has a long way to go.
\n
Green Alpha Advisors doesn’t own Amazon because Jabush says it is still a large contributor to climate risk; he noted the company saw a 15% increase in carbon dioxide emissions in 2019. It also supplies advanced computing data to the oil and gas industry to help fossil-fuel companies locate new deposits.
\n
Both Jabush and Behar says Amazon faces material risk as it deals with electronic waste and plastic waste. Behar says it is trying to work with the e-commerce giant to reduce waste, noting the company could emulate Best Buy’s take-back program to recycle electronic waste. This could become a sustainable money maker by recouping the copper, gold and silver in used electronic parts, he says.
\n
Reducing plastic waste is also critical since Amazon is a big user of packaging. Amazon has reduced Styrofoam usage, but “they could commit to zero plastic in two to three years from now and it would make a big difference,” he says.
\n
Jabush says it’s always a debate at his firm each year about whether to buy Amazon because it is “a phenomenal business,” but he says until it reduces its climate impact, he won’t buy it. But with a new CEO, there’s an opportunity for change, Jabush says, pointing to how Tim Cook changed Apple after taking over from Steve Jobs.
\n
“Sustainability was low on their priority list, and Tim Cook has made Apple into by far the most sustainable megacap in the world right now,” he says.
","source":"market_watch","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Because of that, only a handle of ESG exchange-traded funds and mutual funds own the company.\nOutgoing CEO Jeff Bezos, the founder of the e-commerce giant, has “actually done the hard stuff, the hardest stuff being operations,” says Andrew Behar, CEO of As You Sow, a nonprofit shareholder advocacy group. “On other issues, though, he’s completely not even thinking about them.”\nBezos will retain an influential position in the company as executive chairman and one of its largest shareholders. Jassy, the new CEO, is now the head of Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud-computing business.\nInhis letter to Amazon’s workforce, Bezos tried to burnish his ESG credentials:\n“As Amazon became large, we decided to use our scale and scope to lead on important social issues. Two high-impact examples: our $15 minimum wage and theClimate Pledge. In both cases, we staked out leadership positions and then asked others to come along with us. In both cases, it’s working. Other large companies are coming our way. I hope you’re proud of that as well.”\nNatasha Lamb, managing partner at Arjuna Capital, a sustainable and impact investment firm focusing on workplace issues for women and people of color, disputes Bezos’ claim of being a leader in these two areas, saying that there was great pressure on the company to increase worker pay and to sign the climate pledge.\n“He is not the poster child of the American dream, but of what is eating America alive, which is growing inequality,” she says.\nAmazonincreasedthe minimum wage to $15 in 2018 after years of criticism that it mistreated and underpaid workers, and the company caughtflakfor what workers said were poor health conditions in the pandemic. It is also fightinga unionization attempt at a warehouse in Alabama.\nEmanuele Colonnelli, an assistant professor of finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business who has done ESG research, agrees with Lamb. “A lot of the most promising steps toward ESG seem reactionary, as they have been taken only recently, at a moment in which regulatory and public pressure reached sky-high levels that became impossible to ignore,” he says.\nAlthough Amazon installed a higher minimum wage,MSCI considers the company a laggard when it comes to corporate behavior and labor management. Overall, MSCI gives Amazon a BBB rating, saying it is average for companies in the retail-consumer discretionary space.\nLamb says Amazon has become what Walmartwas in the 1990s, criticized for shuttering small businesses. During the coronavirus, “everybody has become so reliant on Amazon, and those patterns are sticky. It has grave implications for small business.”\nColonnelli says Amazon’s monopoly power can’t be denied and should be at the core of its ESG considerations. “It will be up to Jassy – and Bezos of course- to decide whether they want to be driving the change toward a business model that is less prone to anti-competitive practices, and therefore lead to a more equitable allocation of rents,” he says.\nA ‘real opportunity’ to be a leader\nBehar says As You Sow has interviewed Amazon employees and says the company has a “real opportunity” to be a leader on human capital management, such as increasing hourly employee wages, improving health care benefits, especially during the pandemic, and paid leave, as well as improving efforts around diversity equity inclusion.\nLamb says with a new CEO coming on board, she wants greater clarity about defining gender and racial pay equity and to address diversity as a whole, noting that there are very few women and people of color in the company’s upper ranks. She says other shareholders are asking for a racial equity audit and for a worker representative on the board of directors, “which I think would be helpful.”\nClimate inroads\nWhen it comes to its climate pledge, Amazon is making some inroads. BloombergNEF said Amazon was the leading corporate buyer of clean energy in 2020, signing 35 separate clean energy power-purchasing agreements, totaling 5.1 gigawatts of power. BNEF says Amazon has now purchased over 7.5GW of clean energy to date, pushing it ahead of Alphabet GOOGL at 6.6GW and Facebook FB at 5.9GW as the world’s largest clean-energy buyer.\n\nGarvin Jabush, chief investment officer at Green Alpha Advisors, says Amazon’s investments in renewable energy and its $440 million investment in electric-truck start up Rivian are all impressive starts, but the company has a long way to go.\nGreen Alpha Advisors doesn’t own Amazon because Jabush says it is still a large contributor to climate risk; he noted the company saw a 15% increase in carbon dioxide emissions in 2019. It also supplies advanced computing data to the oil and gas industry to help fossil-fuel companies locate new deposits.\nBoth Jabush and Behar says Amazon faces material risk as it deals with electronic waste and plastic waste. Behar says it is trying to work with the e-commerce giant to reduce waste, noting the company could emulate Best Buy’s take-back program to recycle electronic waste. This could become a sustainable money maker by recouping the copper, gold and silver in used electronic parts, he says.\nReducing plastic waste is also critical since Amazon is a big user of packaging. Amazon has reduced Styrofoam usage, but “they could commit to zero plastic in two to three years from now and it would make a big difference,” he says.\nJabush says it’s always a debate at his firm each year about whether to buy Amazon because it is “a phenomenal business,” but he says until it reduces its climate impact, he won’t buy it. But with a new CEO, there’s an opportunity for change, Jabush says, pointing to how Tim Cook changed Apple after taking over from Steve Jobs.\n“Sustainability was low on their priority list, and Tim Cook has made Apple into by far the most sustainable megacap in the world right now,” he says.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":159,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":360695996,"gmtCreate":1613897882315,"gmtModify":1704885784751,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting!","listText":"Interesting!","text":"Interesting!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/360695996","repostId":"2113829669","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2113829669","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1613883480,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2113829669?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-21 12:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla bitcoin gambit already made $1 billion, more than 2020 profit from car sales, estimates analyst","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2113829669","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"MW UPDATE: Tesla bitcoin gambit already made $1 billion, more than 2020 profit from car sales, estim","content":"

\n
\nMW UPDATE: Tesla bitcoin gambit already made $1 billion, more than 2020 profit from car sales, estimates analyst\n
\n
\n By Mark DeCambre \n
\n
\n 'While the Bitcoin investment is a side show for Tesla, [it is] clearly been a good initial investment and a trend we expect could have a ripple impact for other public companies over the next 12 to 18 months,' says Ives \n
\n
\n Much has been made about the hefty sum that Tesla Inc. has invested in bitcoin, a speculative asset that has only been around since 2009. \n
\n
\n Read:Why did Tesla buy bitcoin? \n
\n
\n However, early estimates from prominent technology analyst Dan Ives sees the investment by the electric-vehicle maker, headed by outspoken Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, already minting a digital paper profit of at least $1 billion, as the price of the asset soars to records. \n
\n
\n \"Based on our calculations, we estimate that Tesla so far has made roughly $1 billion of profit over the last month...To put this in perspective, Tesla is on a trajectory to make more from its Bitcoin investments than profits from selling its [electric vehicle] cars in all of 2020,\" wrote Wedbush's prolific analyst Dan Ives, in a note published on Saturday afternoon. \n
\n
\n Earlier this month, Tesla Inc. $(TSLA)$ became the latest and most well-known major corporation said that it purchased $1.5 billion of bitcoin and that it expects to begin accepting payment in the cryptocurrency for its products in the future. \n
\n
\n The move by Tesla to invest in bitcoin was seen as further confirmation of the legitimacy of the nascent asset that didn't exist until about 12 years ago. \n
\n
\n On Friday, bitcoin's price soared to a record around $54,000 and breached a total market valuation of $1 trillion , further bolstering the perception of the crypto as a legitimate asset if not a nascent one. \n
\n
\n Check out: Is bitcoin headed to $100,000 in 2021 or is its price 'unsustainable'? \n
\n
\n On Saturday, a single bitcoin extended its gain to a record at $57,492, according to CoinDesk . Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained nearly 3% thus far in the year, the S&P 500 index has climbed about 4% and the Nasdaq Composite Index has advanced 7.7% over the same period. \n\n\n Tesla's stock, by the way, has climbed over 11% since the start of the year. \n\n\n The Wedbush analyst said it isn't clear if Tesla's bitcoin move is a stunt, aligned with the perception of Musk as an iconoclast, but still believes that it is likely that other corporations may be compelled to follow suit and swap some of their cash for bitcoins in the future. \n\n\n \"We still expect less than 5% of public companies will head down this route until more regulatory goal posts are put in place around the crypto market, which is clearly starting to gain more mainstream adoption in 2021 and we believe will have a seismic impact for blockchain, payments, banks, and semis in the years to come,\" Ives wrote. \n\n\n -Mark DeCambre; 415-439-6400; AskNewswires@dowjones.com \n\n\n \n\n\n$(END)$ Dow Jones Newswires\n\n\n February 20, 2021 23:58 ET (04:58 GMT)\n\n\n Copyright (c) 2021 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":120,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":364258276,"gmtCreate":1614858320495,"gmtModify":1704776116114,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting","listText":"Interesting","text":"Interesting","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/364258276","repostId":"1121663617","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1121663617","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1614851841,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1121663617?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-04 17:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"5 Stocks To Watch For March 4, 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1121663617","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Wall Street expects Kroger Co KRto report quarterly earnings at $0.69 per share on revenue of $30.86","content":"
Wall Street expects Kroger Co KRto report quarterly earnings at $0.69 per share on revenue of $30.86 billion before the opening bell. PayPal’s market value is now $359 billion.Mastercard‘s equity, meanwhile, was worth $339 billion at recent prices around $341.
\n
Mastercard (MA) andVisa(V), the two major card-processing networks, have been hurt by a slowdown in payment volumes related to the pandemic, particularly in highly profitable cross-border transactions. Both stocks are down around 4% this year and are largely flat over the past 52 weeks.
\n
PayPal, on the other hand, got a lift as the pandemic sent shoppers online and fueled a surge in digital payments. The company is also developing new revenue streams, aiming to become a digital payments “super app,” expanding into everything from Bitcoin to in-store QR-codes, international money transfers, and new peer-to-peer (P2P) services.
\n
PayPal outlined its five-year strategy in a presentation to investors last week. And some analysts were clearly impressed. Lisa Ellis of MoffettNathanson raised her price target on the stock to $350, reflecting a variety of sources of growth.
\n
Just about every facet of the business may bepoisedto double over the next five years. PayPal expects to have 750 million active accounts by 2025, up from 377 million now. It sees total payments volume expanding at a 25% annualized rate, reaching $2.8 trillion by 2025. Revenues are expected to hit more than $50 billion, up from an estimated $25.6 billion this year.
\n
PayPal also expects to boost adjusted operating margins from 25% to 28%, and sees earnings per share rising an average 22% a year. It’s planning to generate $40 billion in free cash flow over the next five years, targeting 30% to 40% for share repurchases.
\n
As Ellis points out, PayPal has several stepping stones to hit those targets. One is a new service called Buy Now Pay Later, an interest-free installment plan for consumer purchases. The service is gaining traction, with $750 million of transaction volume in the fourth quarter.
\n
Anothergrowth driveris cryptocurrencies. PayPal users can now buy and store Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on its app. The company aims to allow crypto to be used as a funding source with the 28 million merchants on its platform, acting as a middleman between consumers and businesses. Bitcoinhit a record$50,000 on Tuesday, up 75% this year, and it appears to be driving greater usage of PayPal, which could ultimately lead to higher average revenue per customer.
\n
PayPal also aims to use its Venmo P2P service as a platform for consumer-to-business payments. And PayPal is making inroads with brick-and-mortar merchants through QR technology for contactless payments in stores.
\n
Does all of this warrant a higher market value and a steep premium to Mastercard stock? The card network is actually expected to lift revenue and profits at a faster pace in fiscal 2021, according to Ellis, growing revenue 21.7% versus 19% for PayPal. She also sees Mastercard’s earnings per share rising 33.3% versus 17.5% for PayPal’s.
\n
But the five-year outlook is clearly more favorable for PayPal, with revenue rising 21% a year, compared with 15% for Mastercard, and earnings compounding at a 22% rate, versus 17% for Mastercard.
\n
The question is whether PayPal’s valuation is getting too rich. At 67 times estimated 2021 per-share earnings, PayPal stock is trading nearly three times more expensive than the S&P 500’s P/E ratio of 23 times earnings. Mastercard goes for 42 times 2021 earnings.
\n
Nonetheless, Wall Street can’t seem to catch up with PayPal’s fast-rising stock. The average target for the stock price is $309, less than 2% above the recent level.
\n
“You have to appreciate the earnings power in the model,” says Wedbush analyst Moshe Katri, who maintained a $300 target on the stock after the presentation last week. “The more they’re able to expand user engagement and get to point where users keep going back and using its products, the more the user fees can go up.”
\n
Whether that means the stock can keep climbing will depend on how quickly it can turn into the super-app that Wall Street has come to expect.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
PayPal Is Now Worth More Than Mastercard. And for Baidu, it marks a further effort to diversify its business well beyond advertising.\nBaidu’s Nasdaq-traded shares jumped more than 3.5% after hours. They climbed 6.67% on Tuesday.\nBaidu’s chip company would be a subsidiary, with the search giant likely to be the majority shareholder, the person said. Venture capital firms GGV and IDG Capital are involved in early stage discussions to invest in Baidu’s chip firm, the source added. Both firms have extensive investments in China.\nBaidu declined to comment when contacted by CNBC. IDG Capital was not immediately available for comment.Calls to GGV’s offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing went unanswered.\nCurrently, Baidu has an in-house chip unit that has helped to develop its Kunlun semiconductors, designed to process huge amounts of data for artificial intelligence applications. But a standalone chip company is seen helping Baidu to better commercialize its technology, the source said.\nThe semiconductor business would aim to sell chips to customers in several industries including automakers, which are currently facing a global chip shortage.\nA standalone chip maker could also tie into other parts of Baidu’s businesses, such as its driverless car software.\nDiversification flurry\nBaidu’s move is part of push by the company to diversify its broader business — an effort which since September alone has seen the Chinese technology giant raise money for a biotech firm and a standalone electric vehicle company.\nAdvertising accounts for most of Baidu’s revenue currently, but other operations are contributing a growing percentage of sales. Ad-related revenue, which the company refers to in its earnings statements as online marketing services, accounted for around 80% of total revenue in 2018. That proportion fell to 71% in the third quarter of 2020, the most recent published results.\nBaidu’s semiconductor focus comes as the Chinese government tries to boost domestic independence around that critical technology — a trend that has accelerated during China’s trade war with the United States.\nChinese internet giant Tencent, the owner of messaging app WeChat,recently invested in an AI chip start-up.\nIn 2019, e-commerce company Alibaba launched its first chip to power artificial intelligence processes.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":16,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":364258467,"gmtCreate":1614858336259,"gmtModify":1704776116275,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/364258467","repostId":"1119441964","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":327,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365782529,"gmtCreate":1614780612861,"gmtModify":1704775135300,"author":{"id":"3559818694287768","authorId":"3559818694287768","name":"Onein","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f44222d7a58dc68aed056991c643c17","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3559818694287768","idStr":"3559818694287768"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Li auto go!!","listText":"Li auto go!!","text":"Li auto go!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/754335e01afa4114f31038a5e504df72","width":"750","height":"2484"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/365782529","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
