Meanwhile, CRWD has a forward price-earnings ratio of 56.5 and an extremely elevated trailing price-sales ratio of 13.5. And last year its earnings from continuous operations came in at -182.3 million, while its operating income was an even worse -$190.2 million.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Moreover, after the company released its Q4 results last month, investment bank <strong>Stifel</strong> noted that the firm’s “top-line beat was below recent trends,” while the company’s end-of-year revenue surge was not as large as it usually is, <em>The Fly</em> reported. Stifel increased its price target on the shares to $125 from $110 but kept a “hold” rating on the name.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Stocks to Sell: Clorox (CLX)</h2><p>As it becomes clear that the Fed is not going to raise interest rates to 6% and the U.S. is, in all likelihood, not heading for stagflation or a recession, the Street’s infatuation with staples stocks is going to end. That will spell bad news for one of America’ most famous staple names, <strong>Clorox </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>CLX</u></strong>).</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Another<em> InvestorPlace</em> columnist, Josh Enomoto, recently reported that CLX has a forward price-earnings ratio of 29 times. That’s a ridiculously high valuation for a name whose sales, excluding acquisitions,. are never going to increase more than a few percentage points annually. And Enomoto reported that “both its EBITDA and FCF growth rate over the past three years have been sitting in negative territory. ”</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Also noteworthy is that <strong>Wells Fargo</strong>, in a note to investors on April 12, said it expects the company’s Q1 results to beat analysts’ average estimates, but still thinks that the shares are overvalued, as shown by the fact that it has an “underweight” rating on the name.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Stocks to Sell: Mullen (MULN)</h2><p>Electric-vehicle maker <strong>Mullen </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong><u>MULN</u></strong>) spends very little on R&amp;D, only putting $29 million towards the category last year. Also, its upcoming EV “looks much like a $5,000 Chinese-made car from <strong>Alibaba</strong> (NYSE: <strong><u>BABA</u></strong>),” another <em>InvestorPlace</em> columnist, Thomas Yeung, recently reported. Worse, <em>Seeking Alpha</em> columnist Bashar Issa wrote that “Mullen is essentially rebranding Chinese vehicles.”</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Both of these items are negative for MULN. That’s because the low R&amp;D spending suggests that its upcoming EVs will not have the features necessary to succeed in the highly competitive U.S. auto market, and lower-end, China-made EVs have not performed well at all in the U.S. Indeed, both <strong>Electrameccanica </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong><u>SOLO</u></strong>) and <strong>Ayro</strong> (NASDAQ: <strong><u>AYRO</u></strong>) –two EV makers that I had once been enthusiastic about — have seen their progress set back years, partly because they discovered that their Chinese-made EVs could not compete in America.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">And, as I’ve written in previous articles, the past record of both Mullen and its CEO, David Michery, should not inspire a great deal of confidence among investors.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Robert Half International (RHI)</h2><p>Although the U.S. labor market remains strong as a whole, jobless claims have been rising, and there are sectors that appear to be laying off large numbers of people. Specifically, banks, mortgage companies, and tech firms appear to be looking to reduce their workforces.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">That does not bode well for <strong>Robert Half</strong> (NYSE: <strong><u>RHI</u></strong>), as two of the five fields in which the recruiting company specializes are “finance and accounting” and “technology.” With many laid-off employees in these fields looking for jobs, most companies will not need to hire Robert Half to find workers for them.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Providing evidence for my bear thesis on RHI stock, the recruiter’s revenue fell 3% year-over-year in the fourth quarter of last year, while its net income sank to $147.65 million from $167.9 million during the same period a year earlier. Further, the company’s forward price-earnings ratio of 15 is fairly high for a well-established company whose prospects are dimming going forward.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Charter Communications (CHTR)</h2><p><strong>Charter Communications’</strong> (NASDAQ: <strong><u>CHTR</u></strong>) two main businesses — cable TV and broadband internet — are facing major threats. Of course, the phenomenon of cord cutting — American consumers getting rid of cable and relying only on much cheaper streaming options instead — is quite prevalent. Indeed, Charter lost nearly 700,000 net cable TV subscribers last year.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Charter and its peers have relied on gaining internet broadband customers to offset the cable losses. Last year, for example, Charter added nearly 100,000 net new broadband subscribers.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">However, Charter is facing a new threat on that front, as<strong> T-Mobile </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong><u>TMUS</u></strong>) and <strong>Verizon </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>VZ</u></strong>) have begun offering 5G home internet service. Moreover, Verizon is offering its 5G home internet service for only $25-$35 for month, which is much less expensive than the amount typically charged by cable companies like Charter. Indeed, Charter’s Spectrum advertises that it offers “Internet For As Low As $49.99” per month.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">With Verizon undercutting Charter’s internet offerings and CHTR likely to continue to bleed TV subscribers, CHTR stock will probably tumble this year.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Kohl’s (KSS)</h2><p><strong>Kohl’s </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>KSS</u></strong>) could very well be the next major primarily brick-and-mortar retailer to crash and burn. I’ve only been in its stores a handful of times in the past five years, but my impression has been that it does not offer great value or very high quality, while shopping in its stores is not very interesting. Moreover, at a time when many Americans are prioritizing spending on experiences over products, Kohl’s sales may trend sharply downward.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Already in the fourth quarter of last year, the retailer’s net sales sank 7% year-over-year, while its gross margins sank ten percentage points YOY.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">And <em>Seeking Alpha </em>columnist Penny Wiser reported, “The company continues to face an intensified market share loss as consumers’ migrate to e-commerce channels, retailers with better value-for-money propositions…and retailers which have a diverse offering.”</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\"><strong>Morgan Stanley</strong> last month started coverage of KSS stock with an “underweight” rating, as the bank noted that the retailer’s full-year top-line guidance “was 25% below analysts’ average outlook.”</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">FuelCell Energy (FCEL)</h2><p><strong>FuelCell’s </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong><u>FCEL</u></strong>) valuation continues to be extremely excessive, given its previous performance and its outlook.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Specifically, FCEL stock has a forward price-sales multiple, based on analysts’ average 2023 revenue estimate of $136 million, of nearly seven times. That’s a very high multiple, especially considering that the mean 2023 sales estimate only calls for the company’s top line to climb 45 this year.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Moreover, in the firm’s last reported quarter, its EBITDA, excluding certain items, came in at -$14.4 million, below its adjusted EBITDA of -$13.6 million during the same period a year earlier. This blew past analysts’ estimates of S$2.16 billion and marked a second straight quarter of record-breaking profits.</p><p>For the full year, net profit grew 20 per cent to S$8.19 billion – also a record performance.</p><p>UOB and OCBC followed up with their report cards last week.</p><p>UOB’s core net profit for the fourth quarter rose 37 per cent to S$1.4 billion, beating analysts’ forecast of S$1.2 billion. Both are new record highs.</p><p>Over at OCBC, fourth-quarter net profit rose 34 per cent from a year ago to S$1.31 billion, missing a S$1.6 billion estimate based on analysts polled by Bloomberg.</p><p>Full-year net profit was up 18 per cent to a new high of S$5.75 billion.</p><p>After ending 2022 on “a solid note”, the three banks are set to improve their profitability further in 2023, said Mr Eugene Tarzimanov, vice-president and senior credit officer at Moody’s Investors Service.</p><p>“Yet the pace of change will be less significant than last year because of growing funding and operating costs,” he added.</p><h2>CAUTIOUS OUTLOOK</h2><p>Rising interest rates have been a boon for local lenders, as seen from the double-digit growth in net interest income – earnings on loans minus deposit costs – and net interest margins last year.</p><p>But with the US Federal Reserve on track for smaller interest-rate hikes this year, banks will start seeing slower earnings growth on this front, said IG’s market strategist Yeap Jun Rong.</p><p>Funding costs are also catching up amid the continued competition for deposits, which may see growth momentum in net interest margins “start to come off notably”, said Mr Thilan Wickramasinghe, head of research at Maybank Securities in Singapore.</p><p>Top executives at the banks have flagged a cautious outlook.</p><p>OCBC, for instance, is guiding a net interest margin of about 2.1 per cent this year versus 1.91 per cent for 2022 and 2.31 per cent in the latest quarter.</p><p>Speaking at the bank’s results briefing last week, group chief executive Helen Wong said global interest rates may plateau and even taper in the second half of 2023.</p><p>“I don’t want to paint too rosy a picture as we go into the rest of the year,” she was quoted as saying in an article by The Business Times.</p><p>There could also be challenges in loan growth amid fears of a global recession, although the reopening of China may “provide some tailwinds”, said Mr Wickramasinghe.</p><p>Mr Pramod Shenoi, co-head of Asia-Pacific research at CreditSights, noted that each bank has its focus areas when it comes to loan growth. For example, DBS is banking on its large corporate pipeline, while OCBC and China are optimistic about China’s reopening and the region’s growth prospects.</p><p>Still, loan growth “is likely to be difficult and competition is likely to be more intense, thereby not allowing rate rises to be passed through as expecting and capping net interest margins,” he added.</p><p>A mixed outlook also lies ahead for the banks’ fee income from wealth and retail segments.</p><p>Wealth management fees have been muted given choppy markets. Mr Wickramasinghe said this would pick up when the market outlook becomes clearer, but that may happen only later in the year.</p><p>Higher fee income from credit cards may also be likely as more people resume overseas travel.</p><p>“But if consumers get more cautious with an uncertain economic environment, or interest rates being higher for longer and affect discretionary spending, then card spending may not see too much growth too,” said Mr Shenoi.</p><p>Asset quality is the other headwind for banks moving forward, experts said.</p><p>“Corporates and consumers are facing high input costs and high interest rates. This is impacting margins and disposable income, so asset quality pressure and delinquencies need to be closely watched going forward,” said Mr Wickramasinghe.</p><h2>WHAT THIS MEANS FOR SHARE PRICES</h2><p>Following their respective earnings results, shares of the banking trio have come off their highs set earlier in the year.</p><p>Shares of DBS slipped 0.17 per cent, or S$0.06, to finish at S$34.34 on Monday (Feb 27). OCBC gained 0.24 per cent, or S$0.03, to S$12.70, while UOB rose 0.3 per cent, or S$0.09, to end the trading day at S$29.94.</p><p>“I think the general downside reaction in share prices to the banks’ results reflects some concerns on whether this stellar performance can continue through 2023,” said Mr Yeap.</p><p>But this may be temporary, going by the target prices of analysts.</p><p>For example, brokerage UOB Kay Hian has a target price of S$45.80 for DBS, while RHB Group Research sees DBS’ stock hitting S$42.</p><p>For UOB, CGS-CIMB has a target price of S$33.30 and OCBC Investment Research sees the stock’s fair value at S$34.</p><p>The local banks also remain “a stable dividend play” for shareholders, especially after having upsized their dividend payouts following the upbeat fourth-quarter results, said Mr Yeap.</p><p>DBS, which pays its dividends quarterly, recommended a final dividend of S$0.42 per share and a special dividend of S$0.50 per share.</p><p>UOB and OCBC pay their dividends half-yearly. Pandemic support by central banks has been credited with underpinning the global economic recovery, while keeping credit flowing, but also pushing up asset prices to sometimes worrying levels.</p><p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average  was poised for a 19% annual gain for 2021, while the Nasdaq Composite Index  advanced about 22%, according to FactSet.</p><p>Fed Chairman Jerome Powell outlined plans in December to more aggressively reduce the central bank&#39;s hallmark $120 billion in monthly pandemic bond purchases, in a bid to combat inflation that&#39;s touched 1980s levels. It is targeting March as a potential end date for the program, after about two years. Image source: The Motley Fool.</span></p>\n<h2>Amazon</h2>\n<p>Even though Buffett's investing lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, are the architects behind Berkshire Hathaway's stake in <b>Amazon</b> (NASDAQ:AMZN), it's arguably the Buffett stock that should be bought most aggressively ahead of the second half of the year.</p>\n<p>As most folks probably know, Amazon is an e-commerce juggernaut. Based on an April report from eMarketer, the company effectively controls $0.40 of every $1 spent online in the United States. It's also pivoted its online retail popularity into signing up more than 200 million people to its Prime program worldwide. The fees Amazon collects from Prime help it to undercut its competition on price. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Prime members tend to spend many multiples more than non-Prime shoppers during the course of the year.</p>\n<p>But it's the company's cloud infrastructure service, Amazon Web Services (AWS), that has truly budded into a star. Since the operating margins associated with cloud infrastructure are considerably higher than what Amazon nets from retail and advertising, AWS' growth is leading to a surge in operating cash flow. If investors were to continue to pay the midpoint of Amazon's operating cash flow multiple over the past decade, it could hit $10,000 a share by 2025.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b18b49b2b35da2fc49e0a83b883d1c22\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Bristol Myers Squibb</h2>\n<p>Pharmaceutical stocks are money machines, and none looks to be more attractive on a valuation basis than <b>Bristol Myers Squibb</b> (NYSE:BMY).</p>\n<p>One reason to be excited about this drug developer is its organic growth potential. Eliquis, which was co-developed with <b>Pfizer</b>, has blossomed into the world's leading oral anticoagulant, with sales expected to surpass $10 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, dozens of additional clinical trials are underway for cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which generated $7 billion in sales last year. This offers plenty of opportunity to expand Opdivo's label and pump up its pricing power.</p>\n<p>Another reason Bristol Myers Squibb is such an intriguing stock is its November 2019 acquisition of cancer and immunology company Celgene. Buying Celgene brought the blockbuster multiple-myeloma drug Revlimid into the fold. Revlimid has sustainably grown its annual sales by a double-digit percentage for more than a decade, with label expansion, longer duration of use, and pricing power all playing a role. This key treatment, which topped $12 billion in sales last year, is protected from a full onslaught of generic competition until early 2026. That means Bristol Myers will be rolling in the dough for another five years, at minimum.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1b152e369d7c967dcbc926192ee888c1\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"531\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Mastercard</h2>\n<p>Everyone seems to be looking for the smartest recovery play from the pandemic. Payment processor <b>Mastercard</b> (NYSE:MA) might well be the safest way to take advantage of a steady uptick in consumer and enterprise spending.</p>\n<p>Mastercard isn't a cheap stock by any means -- at 36 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings consensus -- but it benefits from a simple numbers game. While economic contractions and recessions are inevitable, these periods of turbulence tend to be short-lived. By comparison, economic expansions often last many years. Buying into Mastercard allows investors to take full advantage of these long periods of economic expansion and robust spending. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mastercard has the second-highest share of credit-card network purchase volume in the U.S., the leading market for consumption.</p>\n<p>Investors can also sleep easy with the understanding that Mastercard strictly sticks to payment facilitation. Even though some of its peers also lend, and are therefore able to generate interest income and fees during bull markets, Mastercard has avoided becoming a lender. It's something you'll truly appreciate when a recession strikes. Whereas most financial stocks will be forced to set aside capital to cover credit or loan delinquencies, Mastercard won't have to. This is a big reason it bounces back from recessions quicker than most financial stocks.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e4e1a1fe028efa4c966b66ef2cd466f5\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Teva Pharmaceutical Industries</h2>\n<p>If you have an appetite for turnaround plays, brand-name and generic-drug developer <b>Teva Pharmaceutical Industries</b> (NYSE:TEVA) is the stock to buy hand over fist for the second half of 2021. Like Amazon, it's a stock that was added to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio by either Combs or Weschler and not Buffett.</p>\n<p>While there's no denying that Teva has its fair share of hurdles to overcome, the company's turnaround-focused CEO, Kare Schultz, has been a blessing. Since taking the helm less than four years ago, Schultz has helped shave off more than $10 billion in net debt, and he's overseen the reduction of roughly $3 billion in annual operating expenses. There's more work to do to improve Teva's balance sheet, but the company is very clearly on much firmer ground than it was back in 2016-2017.</p>\n<p>Schultz also has the potential to play peacemaker for a number of outstanding lawsuits targeting Teva's role in the opioid crisis. If this litigation can be resolved with minimal cash outlay, Teva's valuation could soar. At just 4 times the company's projected earnings in 2021, Teva is about as cheap as a healthcare stock can get.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/44a30c4dfd6886a29e22d3c6558c3e56\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Bank of America</h2>\n<p>Lastly, bank stock <b>Bank of America</b> (NYSE:BAC) has the look of a company that can be confidently bought hand over fist for the second half of 2021.</p>\n<p>For much of the past decade, the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates at or near historic lows. That's meant less in the way of interest income for banks. But the latest update from the nation's central bank suggests that interest rates could begin creeping up in 2023, a year earlier than previously forecast. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive money-center bank. According to its first-quarter investor presentation, BofA would generate $8.3 billion in net interest income on a 100-basis-point shift in the interest rate yield curve. Translation: Bank of America's profits should rocket higher beginning in 2023-2024.</p>\n<p>At the same time, BofA has done an outstanding job of controlling its costs and improving its operating efficiency. Investments in digitization have resulted in higher mobile app and digital banking use, which is allowing the company to consolidate some of its branches. Eliquis, which was co-developed with Pfizer, has blossomed into the world's leading oral anticoagulant, with sales expected to surpass $10 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, dozens of additional clinical trials are underway for cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which generated $7 billion in sales last year. This offers plenty of opportunity to expand Opdivo's label and pump up its pricing power.\nAnother reason Bristol Myers Squibb is such an intriguing stock is its November 2019 acquisition of cancer and immunology company Celgene. Buying Celgene brought the blockbuster multiple-myeloma drug Revlimid into the fold. Revlimid has sustainably grown its annual sales by a double-digit percentage for more than a decade, with label expansion, longer duration of use, and pricing power all playing a role. This key treatment, which topped $12 billion in sales last year, is protected from a full onslaught of generic competition until early 2026. Payment processor Mastercard (NYSE:MA) might well be the safest way to take advantage of a steady uptick in consumer and enterprise spending.\nMastercard isn't a cheap stock by any means -- at 36 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings consensus -- but it benefits from a simple numbers game. While economic contractions and recessions are inevitable, these periods of turbulence tend to be short-lived. By comparison, economic expansions often last many years. Buying into Mastercard allows investors to take full advantage of these long periods of economic expansion and robust spending. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mastercard has the second-highest share of credit-card network purchase volume in the U.S., the leading market for consumption.\nInvestors can also sleep easy with the understanding that Mastercard strictly sticks to payment facilitation. Even though some of its peers also lend, and are therefore able to generate interest income and fees during bull markets, Mastercard has avoided becoming a lender. It's something you'll truly appreciate when a recession strikes. Whereas most financial stocks will be forced to set aside capital to cover credit or loan delinquencies, Mastercard won't have to. This is a big reason it bounces back from recessions quicker than most financial stocks.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nTeva Pharmaceutical Industries\nIf you have an appetite for turnaround plays, brand-name and generic-drug developer Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (NYSE:TEVA) is the stock to buy hand over fist for the second half of 2021. Like Amazon, it's a stock that was added to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio by either Combs or Weschler and not Buffett.\nWhile there's no denying that Teva has its fair share of hurdles to overcome, the company's turnaround-focused CEO, Kare Schultz, has been a blessing. Since taking the helm less than four years ago, Schultz has helped shave off more than $10 billion in net debt, and he's overseen the reduction of roughly $3 billion in annual operating expenses. There's more work to do to improve Teva's balance sheet, but the company is very clearly on much firmer ground than it was back in 2016-2017.\nSchultz also has the potential to play peacemaker for a number of outstanding lawsuits targeting Teva's role in the opioid crisis. If this litigation can be resolved with minimal cash outlay, Teva's valuation could soar. At just 4 times the company's projected earnings in 2021, Teva is about as cheap as a healthcare stock can get.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBank of America\nLastly, bank stock Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) has the look of a company that can be confidently bought hand over fist for the second half of 2021.\nFor much of the past decade, the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates at or near historic lows. That's meant less in the way of interest income for banks. But the latest update from the nation's central bank suggests that interest rates could begin creeping up in 2023, a year earlier than previously forecast. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive money-center bank. According to its first-quarter investor presentation, BofA would generate $8.3 billion in net interest income on a 100-basis-point shift in the interest rate yield curve. Translation: Bank of America's profits should rocket higher beginning in 2023-2024.\nAt the same time, BofA has done an outstanding job of controlling its costs and improving its operating efficiency. Investments in digitization have resulted in higher mobile app and digital banking use, which is allowing the company to consolidate some of its branches. Investors in the once-highflying firm include about 34,000 individuals who put money in products including perpetual notes and preference shares.</p>\n<p>Borrelli Walsh, which has been in charge of Hyflux since November last year, said in its statement earlier this month that the remaining value of the Hyflux Group would be best realized in a liquidation;read more details.</p>\n<p>Patrick Bance, a Singapore-based director at Borrelli Walsh, declined to comment when asked about the asset sale forecasts.</p>\n<p>One of the bidders for Hyflux assets is Singapore’sKeppel Infrastructure Trust, according to the person. It’s interested in the TuasOne waste-to-energy plant and the remaining 30% stake in the SingSpring desalination plant that it doesn’t own already, the person said.</p>\n<p>Keppel Infrastructure has contractual rights to acquire the 30% stake in the SingSpring plant and to take over the operations, and that’s unaffected by the liquidation proceedings, the firm’s spokesperson said in an email response to Bloomberg queries. Sherwin-Williams (SHW) is lifting the price of paint, one of many companies that's responding to higher commodities costs.</p>\n<p>Food prices are also surging. Chipotle (CMG) just raised prices. So did Campbell Soup (CPB).</p>\n<p>And the chief financial officer of restaurant and arcade chain Dave &amp; Buster's (PLAY) said during a recent earnings call with analysts that he expects a 6% to 8% increase in food costs for 2021 due to higher chicken, beef and dairy prices.</p>\n<p>Wages are rising too, especially for workers in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors that are returning to jobs as the economy reopens. That adds to inflationary pressures, because some companies will choose to hike prices in order to maintain profits.</p>\n<p>Labor shortages aren't helping.</p>\n<p>The CEO of online pet retailer Chewy (CHWY) wrote in a letter to shareholders after its latest earnings report that it \"faced labor shortages in our fulfillment centers similar to those being faced by many companies nationwide.\" As a result, Chewy continues \"to invest in higher wages and benefits\" in order to fill job vacancies.</p>\n<p>Yet investors — and the Federal Reserve — are shrugging off rising inflation as \"transitory.\" Long-term bond yields are falling, which isn't what normally happens when inflation runs hot. If bond investors believed that price hikes are here to stay, they'd be demanding higher yields.</p>\n<p>And the market is pricing in just a 3% chance of a rate hike from the Fed by the end of the year. That's down from a 10% likelihood of higher rates just a month ago. Investors know a rate hike is the central bank's best tool to fight rising inflation, and they'll want to hear more on the subject when Fed chair Jerome Powell speaks at a press conference on Wednesday.</p>\n<p>\"The bond market is still not concerned about inflation. It's buying what the Fed is selling,\" said Randy Warren, CEO of Warren Financial.</p>\n<p>The problem is that there is a chance the Fed could wait too long to react to inflation.</p>\n<p>\"Is inflation transitory or something more structural?\" asked Steven Oh, global head of credit and fixed income with PineBridge Investments. \"Will the Fed lose control of it down the road and make a policy error and not have the ability to rein it in?\"</p>\n<p>If the Fed and bond market are wrong about inflation, the central bank may have to wind down its pandemic stimulus much more quickly than it — and investors — would like. That would mean unwinding its big asset purchases and raising rates sooner rather than later.</p>\n<p>Oh doesn't think that will be the case. And many others agree. They argue that investors must keep in mind how rapidly the economy has roared back.</p>\n<p>For that reason, it should not be that big of a surprise that there are dislocations in the job market and supply chain. It will take time for conditions to revert to what they were like in late 2019 and early 2020 before Covid-19.</p>\n<p>\"There are a lot of questions about inflation because you see it in everyday life,\" said Bryan Koslow, principal of Clarus Group, a wealth management firm. \"But we may have seen the peak, especially in terms of wage growth.\"</p>\n<p>Even if that does turn out to be true, the mere fact that investors and consumers are so focused on prices is noteworthy. Inflation has essentially been a non-issue for more than a decade.</p>\n<p>\"The Fed has to take the inflation concerns seriously,\" said Troy Gayeski, co-chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager at SkyBridge Capital. He added that he thinks there is a 20% chance that inflation pressures turn out to be more persistent as opposed to transitory.</p>\n<p>\"The risk of meaningful inflation has been non-existent since 2008. Until now,\" Gayeski said.</p>\n<p><b>What's getting more expensive</b></p>\n<p>Food and paint aren't the only things getting more expensive. As CNN Business' Moira Ritter points out, the prices of just about everything have gone up lately.</p>\n<p>Lumber prices have soared. And the housing market continues to boom. That's led to a big spike in the prices of couches and other household furnishings.</p>\n<p>Used cars are a lot more expensive too. Chalk that up to people returning to work and a dearth of new cars on dealership lots due to the chip supply shortage that has hurt production of new vehicles.</p>\n<p>People are traveling more as well. However, the company released updated guidance on Monday that showed wider margins for the second quarter than previous projections.\nAnalyst Stephen Trent upgraded the stock to buy from neutral, saying in a note to clients on Tuesday that the stock’s recent struggles “opened value in the shares” and the updated guidance helped to convince him it was time to buy the dip.\n“Forecast adjustments for Spirit Airlines include the incorporation of stronger, expected unit revenue, higher forecasted growth in available seat miles, but with this growth only partially tempered by lower ’21E efficiency gains and higher fuel into our model,” the note said.\nThe positive guidance on revenue outweighs higher guidance on the cost side, Citi said.\n“Costs associated with re-starting some operations look poised to pressure ex-fuel [cost per available seat mile] more than we had previously anticipated, while fuel prices keep rising.
