Battery technology is the main reason.\nCanaccord analy","content":"
A Tesla bull is a little less bullish Monday. Battery technology is the main reason.
\n
Canaccord analyst Jonathan Dorsheimer threw his Tesla (ticker: TSLA) target price into reverse Monday, cutting it to $812, down $162, or 17% from $974. He maintained his Buy rating though.
\n
The cut isn’t having much impact on shares in Monday trading. Tesla stock is up about 1.3% to $618 a share.
\n
Even though he is still bullish on the company, Dorsheimer is wary about Tesla’s new batteries. In particular the larger 4680 cell design which promises better charge time, longer per-charge range and lower cost.
\n
The 4680 refers to a cylindrical battery with a diameter of 46 millimeters and a length of 80 millimeters. Today’s Tesla’s have 2170 batteries. That’s 21 millimeter diameter and 70 millimeter length.
\n
Tesla recently started delivering its Model S Plaid vehicle, billed as the fastest production car ever built. It can go zero to 60 miles per hour in under 2 seconds. But it also canceled the Plaid+ which was going to have longer per-charge range partly because of the new battery design.
\n
Dorsheimer wrote that the Plaid+ “was reportedly going to be the first to feature the new 4680 cell design.” The cancellation “signals to us the new cell format isn’t ready for production just yet, and cell production capacity constraints for energy storage products like Powerwall remain.”
\n
If the batteries aren’t ready yet, that’s a problem. Better batteries are a competitive advantage for electric-vehicle makers. Lower costs also allow Tesla to either charge less or make more money per car. Lower prices can expand the pool of Tesla buyers. Better profits, of course, are cheered by investors. And any battery-supply constraints could impact Tesla vehicle deliveries down the road. Wall Street expects Tesla to deliver 800,000 to 900,000 cars in 2021, up from about 500,000 cars in 2020.
\n
Dorsheimer’s target-price cut lowered the analyst average for Tesla stock to $618 a share from $623.
\n

\n
Drops aren’t the norm recently. Tesla stock’s average analyst target price is up more than 830% from the start of 2018. The average analyst target price, however, has stopped rising since early February.
\n
That’s also when bond yields started rising because of inflation fears. Higher bond yields hurt richly valued technology companies more than others for two reasons. Higher yields make it more costly to finance growth. It also reduces the present value of future cash flow. And growth companies generate most of their cash flow far in the future.
\n
Investors are looking for a catalyst to snap Tesla stock out of its recent range. First quarter earnings didn’t do it. Neither has the launch of the Plaid. Production from new facilities in Texas and Germany, due to start around year end 2021, as well as the new batteries, could be what investors need.
\n
Of course, they also need EV demand to stay strong and for interest rates to stay in a low, stable range.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Bull Cuts Price Target Because of Batteries. The average analyst target price, however, has stopped rising since early February.\nThat’s also when bond yields started rising because of inflation fears. Higher bond yields hurt richly valued technology companies more than others for two reasons. Higher yields make it more costly to finance growth. It also reduces the present value of future cash flow. And growth companies generate most of their cash flow far in the future.\nInvestors are looking for a catalyst to snap Tesla stock out of its recent range. First quarter earnings didn’t do it. Neither has the launch of the Plaid. Production from new facilities in Texas and Germany, due to start around year end 2021, as well as the new batteries, could be what investors need.\nOf course, they also need EV demand to stay strong and for interest rates to stay in a low, stable range.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":411,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":135081084,"gmtCreate":1622122537648,"gmtModify":1704179855908,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3560422609897036","idStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/135081084","repostId":"1154877560","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1154877560","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1622122359,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1154877560?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-27 21:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow rises 200 points amid better-than-expected jobs data, Boeing shares jump","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1154877560","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stocks climbed on Thursday as investors digested stronger-than-expected labor-market data. The D","content":"
U.S. stocks climbed on Thursday as investors digested stronger-than-expected labor-market data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 200 points. But one shouldn't forget that this same index has jumped more than 240% in the past five years, which means that a $5,000 investment in the index would be worth $17,000 now.
\n
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) stock has done even better over five years, rising over 1,850% and turning $5,000 into nearly $100,000. Rival graphics card specialist NVIDIA(NASDAQ:NVDA)has soared over 1,200% over a similar period. Both stocks have pulled back thanks to the tech sell-off, but these two stocks could deliver outsized gains over the next five years as well, thanks to the catalysts they are sitting on. Let's find out why.
\n
\n
1. Advanced Micro Devices
\n
AMD's fortunes have changed big time over the past five years. A competitive product lineup has allowed it to take market share away from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) in the x86 processor market, a trend that's expected to continue in the next five years.
\n
AMD DATA BY YCHARTS
\n
AMD has made solid progress in the PC market through its Ryzen CPUs (central processing units) and Radeon GPUs (graphics processing units). According to the latest data from Steam Hardware Survey for April, AMD now controls almost 29.5% of the PC CPU space. It controlled 25% of the market in December 2020, with Intel holding the rest. Steam data is a credible source for PC market share information, as the platform is used by 120 million monthly active users worldwide.
\n
Meanwhile, Mercury Research estimates that AMD's desktop PC market share increased to 19.3% at the end of the first quarter, up from just 11.4% four years ago. It also holds 18% of the mobile CPU market. AMD's CPU market share is expected to jump as high as 50% in 2021 as per Wall Street. This doesn't seem surprising given thetechnology advantage AMD enjoys over Intel, as well as Chipzilla's troubles with getting its latest chips out of the gate.
\n
AMD has also turned on the heat in the laptop market. The company's Ryzen 5000 mobile processors are expected to power 50% more models this year and pave the way for more market share gains.
\n
Meanwhile, AMD has made solid progress in the server processor market, finishing Q1 with an 8.9% share. It was nowhere to be seen in server processors four years ago, but the arrival of the EPYC chips has given it a big shot in the arm. AMD is poised to take away more market share from Intel in servers in the coming years and could make billions of dollars from this space.
\n
On the other hand, the arrival of the latest gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are powered by AMD's chips is moving the needle in a big way for the chipmaker. The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.8 million units so far. It is expected to sell over 200 million units over its lifetime, according to an analyst at Japanese firm Rakuten Securities, as compared to 116 million units of the previous generation PS4.
\n
What's more, AMD is reportedly getting 80% more revenue from each unit of the PS5 over the PS4. So, a combination of higher shipments and stronger revenue from each gaming console should unlock a massive revenue opportunity for the company in the long run. Not surprisingly, analysts expect AMD to deliver almost 30% annual earnings growth over the next five years -- making it a top growth stock where one can park $5,000 right now, given that it is trading at less than 28 times forward earnings.
\n
2. NVIDIA
\n
NVIDIA has come a long way in the past five years. The chipmaker has branched out into several fast-growing applications such as data centers, artificial intelligence, autonomous cars, and 5G wireless networks from supplying graphics cards for gaming PCs.
\n
NVDA DATA BY YCHARTS
\n
Gaming continues to be NVIDIA's biggest source of revenue, accounting for 46% of its top line last fiscal year. The segment's revenue was up 41% in fiscal 2021 to $7.7 billion, thanks to the launch of NVIDIA's new RTX 30 series graphics cards, which have set the sales charts on fire by triggering a massive upgrade cycle.
\n
NVIDIA estimates that 85% of its installed base is yet to upgrade to the RTX series cards, which pack a huge performance bump at aggressive price points over prior generation cards. That's a huge opportunity, as NVIDIA's installed base of gaming graphics cards stands at 140 million. More importantly, the company's new GPUs are driving an increase in the average selling price (ASP).
\n
The latest Ampere-based GPUs recorded an ASP of $360 in the first six months of their launch thanks to an increase in the proportion of customers buying higher-priced cards. That's 20% higher than the previous generation Turing cards that had an ASP of $300 in the initial six months, and well above the $245 ASP of the Pascal cards that were released five years ago.
\n
\n
So, NVIDIA's gaming business could keep growing at a terrific pace over the next five years thanks to a combination of strong volumes and improved pricing. Jon Peddie Research estimates that 41.5 million discrete GPUs were sold in 2020, and NVIDIA dominated this market with a share of 82% at the end of the year. This bodes well for NVIDIA's future, as the GPU market is expected to clock annual growth of nearly 34% through 2027 as per third-party estimates.
\n
Beyond gaming, NVIDIA is sitting on huge opportunities in nascent markets such as self-driving cars. The company has struck several partnerships in this space and has already lined up automotive design wins worth $8 billion for the next five years. This figure could keep growing thanks to NVIDIA's solid product roadmap, which indicates that it is working on more powerful self-driving platforms that should hit the market in the coming years.
\n
Throw in the fact that NVIDIA's terrific growth in the data center market won't be fading any time soon, and investors will have one more reason to hold on to this tech titan. The data center business generated $6.7 billion in revenue in FY21, up 124% year over year. It accounted for 40% of the total revenue. NVIDIA is now branching out into new areas to ensure that this business keeps growing at elevated rates.
\n
It recently announced the Grace CPU, a server processor that's expected to go on sale in 2023. But one shouldn't forget that this same index has jumped more than 240% in the past five years, which means that a $5,000 investment in the index would be worth $17,000 now.\nAdvanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) stock has done even better over five years, rising over 1,850% and turning $5,000 into nearly $100,000. Let's find out why.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\n1. Advanced Micro Devices\nAMD's fortunes have changed big time over the past five years. A competitive product lineup has allowed it to take market share away from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) in the x86 processor market, a trend that's expected to continue in the next five years.\nAMD DATA BY YCHARTS\nAMD has made solid progress in the PC market through its Ryzen CPUs (central processing units) and Radeon GPUs (graphics processing units). According to the latest data from Steam Hardware Survey for April, AMD now controls almost 29.5% of the PC CPU space. It controlled 25% of the market in December 2020, with Intel holding the rest. Steam data is a credible source for PC market share information, as the platform is used by 120 million monthly active users worldwide.\nMeanwhile, Mercury Research estimates that AMD's desktop PC market share increased to 19.3% at the end of the first quarter, up from just 11.4% four years ago. It also holds 18% of the mobile CPU market. AMD's CPU market share is expected to jump as high as 50% in 2021 as per Wall Street. This doesn't seem surprising given thetechnology advantage AMD enjoys over Intel, as well as Chipzilla's troubles with getting its latest chips out of the gate.\nAMD has also turned on the heat in the laptop market. The company's Ryzen 5000 mobile processors are expected to power 50% more models this year and pave the way for more market share gains.\nMeanwhile, AMD has made solid progress in the server processor market, finishing Q1 with an 8.9% share. It was nowhere to be seen in server processors four years ago, but the arrival of the EPYC chips has given it a big shot in the arm. AMD is poised to take away more market share from Intel in servers in the coming years and could make billions of dollars from this space.\nOn the other hand, the arrival of the latest gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are powered by AMD's chips is moving the needle in a big way for the chipmaker. The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.8 million units so far. It is expected to sell over 200 million units over its lifetime, according to an analyst at Japanese firm Rakuten Securities, as compared to 116 million units of the previous generation PS4.\nWhat's more, AMD is reportedly getting 80% more revenue from each unit of the PS5 over the PS4. So, a combination of higher shipments and stronger revenue from each gaming console should unlock a massive revenue opportunity for the company in the long run. Not surprisingly, analysts expect AMD to deliver almost 30% annual earnings growth over the next five years -- making it a top growth stock where one can park $5,000 right now, given that it is trading at less than 28 times forward earnings.\n2. NVIDIA\nNVIDIA has come a long way in the past five years. The chipmaker has branched out into several fast-growing applications such as data centers, artificial intelligence, autonomous cars, and 5G wireless networks from supplying graphics cards for gaming PCs.\nNVDA DATA BY YCHARTS\nGaming continues to be NVIDIA's biggest source of revenue, accounting for 46% of its top line last fiscal year. The segment's revenue was up 41% in fiscal 2021 to $7.7 billion, thanks to the launch of NVIDIA's new RTX 30 series graphics cards, which have set the sales charts on fire by triggering a massive upgrade cycle.\nNVIDIA estimates that 85% of its installed base is yet to upgrade to the RTX series cards, which pack a huge performance bump at aggressive price points over prior generation cards. That's a huge opportunity, as NVIDIA's installed base of gaming graphics cards stands at 140 million. More importantly, the company's new GPUs are driving an increase in the average selling price (ASP).\nThe latest Ampere-based GPUs recorded an ASP of $360 in the first six months of their launch thanks to an increase in the proportion of customers buying higher-priced cards. That's 20% higher than the previous generation Turing cards that had an ASP of $300 in the initial six months, and well above the $245 ASP of the Pascal cards that were released five years ago.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nSo, NVIDIA's gaming business could keep growing at a terrific pace over the next five years thanks to a combination of strong volumes and improved pricing. Jon Peddie Research estimates that 41.5 million discrete GPUs were sold in 2020, and NVIDIA dominated this market with a share of 82% at the end of the year. This bodes well for NVIDIA's future, as the GPU market is expected to clock annual growth of nearly 34% through 2027 as per third-party estimates.\nBeyond gaming, NVIDIA is sitting on huge opportunities in nascent markets such as self-driving cars. The company has struck several partnerships in this space and has already lined up automotive design wins worth $8 billion for the next five years. This figure could keep growing thanks to NVIDIA's solid product roadmap, which indicates that it is working on more powerful self-driving platforms that should hit the market in the coming years.\nThrow in the fact that NVIDIA's terrific growth in the data center market won't be fading any time soon, and investors will have one more reason to hold on to this tech titan. The data center business generated $6.7 billion in revenue in FY21, up 124% year over year. It accounted for 40% of the total revenue. NVIDIA is now branching out into new areas to ensure that this business keeps growing at elevated rates.\nIt recently announced the Grace CPU, a server processor that's expected to go on sale in 2023. This would be new territory for NVIDIA, and success here could supercharge the company's data center business, as the server processor market is expected to be worth $19 billion by 2023.\nSo, NVIDIA still has a lot of room for growth. Analysts forecast 20%-plus annual earnings growth for the next five years, though NVIDIA could do better if the new opportunities it is attacking bear fruit. In all, NVIDIA looks like a top stock where investors can park $5,000, as it is set for multi-year growth and trades at an attractive 36 times forward earnings as compared to 2020's average multiple of 46.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":502,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":371518218,"gmtCreate":1618960541934,"gmtModify":1704717404285,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3560422609897036","idStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh boy","listText":"Oh boy","text":"Oh boy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/371518218","repostId":"2129823787","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2129823787","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1618957127,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2129823787?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-21 06:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"UiPath raises $1.34 billion in IPO -source","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2129823787","media":"Reuters","summary":"By Krystal Hu and Echo WangApril 20 (Reuters) - Automation technology startup UiPath on Tuesday sold","content":"
By Krystal Hu and Echo Wang

April 20 (Reuters) - Automation technology startup UiPath on Tuesday sold shares in its initial public offering $(IPO.UK)$ above its target range to raise $1.34 billion, a person familiar with the matter said.

UiPath priced 23.89 million shares at $56 per share, the source said. The net-add forecast for the March quarter is down from the 15.8 million spike in subscribers driven by Covid-19 in the year-ago first quarter.
\n
The company expects operating margin in the March quarter to jump to 25%, from 16.6% a year ago and 14.4% in the fourth quarter.
\n
Last quarter,Netflix surprised Wall Street with the news that it now expects to be cash flow break-even or better moving forward—and that it has begun considering stock buybacks. Netflix had $1.9 billion in positive free cash flow in 2020, thanks to lower production costs as a result of the pandemic, compared with a $3.3 billion cash flow loss in 2019. For 2021, Netflix expects to break even on a cash flow basis. Fourth-quarter cash flow was negative $138 million.
\n
Netflix also said that with $8.2 billion in cash and an untouched $750 million credit facility, “we believe we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” In addition, the streaming giant said it had about $16 billion in debt overall and expects to maintain $10 billion to $15 billion in gross debt over time. The net-add forecast for the March quarter is down from the 15.8 million spike in subscribers driven by Covid-19 in the year-ago first quarter.\nThe company expects operating margin in the March quarter to jump to 25%, from 16.6% a year ago and 14.4% in the fourth quarter.\nLast quarter,Netflix surprised Wall Street with the news that it now expects to be cash flow break-even or better moving forward—and that it has begun considering stock buybacks. Netflix had $1.9 billion in positive free cash flow in 2020, thanks to lower production costs as a result of the pandemic, compared with a $3.3 billion cash flow loss in 2019. For 2021, Netflix expects to break even on a cash flow basis. Fourth-quarter cash flow was negative $138 million.\nNetflix also said that with $8.2 billion in cash and an untouched $750 million credit facility, “we believe we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” In addition, the streaming giant said it had about $16 billion in debt overall and expects to maintain $10 billion to $15 billion in gross debt over time. Netflix said it would “explore returning cash to shareholders through ongoing stock buybacks,” something it hasn’t done since 2011.\nThe stock shot higher on that news, but has since eased back, as attention turns to the potential for slowing near-term subscriber growth. Analyst sentiment heading into earnings is mixed.\nPiper Sandler analyst Thomas Champion, who has an Overweight rating and $605 target price on Netflix, is bullish on the stock heading into the report. While noting that the company was a beneficiary of the pandemic, he thinks Netflix will benefit from a combination of “a strong consumer” as the economy reopens, a clamp-down on password sharing, and “a pandemic tailwind that may remain in Europe.” Champion notes that a recent Piper survey of teens found that they allocate 32% of video consumption to Netflix, versus 8% for Hulu, the second-most popular subscription video service.\nUBS analyst John Hodulik notes that investors have become increasingly focused on how summer seasonality might manifest this year, given a reopening economy and the potential for added churn from higher subscription prices in some markets. The stock could remain volatile in the short-to-medium term, he warns. But the analyst “continues to view Netflix as the long-term winner within streaming media and remains constructive on the fundamentals.” He keeps a Buy rating and $650 target price on Netflix shares.\nRaymond James analyst Andrew Marok, who has a Market Perform rating on Netflix shares, remains cautious on the stock for now. He does see some near-terms risks, however: the pace of subscriber additions post-pandemic, the impact of the pandemic on 2021 content releases, and scaling competition from cheaper competitive subscription services.\nFor Netflix’s June quarter, Wall Street consensus calls for revenue of $7.4 billion, earnings of $2.69 a share, and 4.4 million net subscriber temporary Supplementary Leverage Ratio (SLR) exemption expire as scheduled on March 31, the one year anniversary of the rule change.

The federal bank regulatory agencies today announced that the temporary change to the supplementary leverage ratio, or SLR, for depository institutions issued on May 15, 2020, will expire as scheduled on March 31, 2021.The temporary change was made to provide flexibility for depository institutions to provide credit to households and businesses in light of the COVID-19 event.

This outcome is theone (again) correctly predictedby former NY Fed guru Zoltan Pozsar who following the FOMC said that \"the fact that the Fed made this adjustment practically preemptively – the o/n RRP facility is not being used at the moment, so there are no capacity constraints yet, while repo and bill yields aren’t trading negative yet –suggests that the Fed is “foaming the runway” for the end of SLR exemption.\"

Knowing well this would be a very hot button issue for the market, the Fed published thefollowing statementto ease trader nerves, noting that while the SLR special treatment will expire on March 31, the Fed is \"inviting public comment on several potential SLR modifications\" and furthermore, \"Board may need to address the current design and calibration of the SLR over time to prevent strains from developing that could both constrain economic growth and undermine financial stability\" - in short, if yields spike, the Fed will re-introduce the SLR without delay:

The Federal Reserve Board on Friday announced that the temporary change to its supplementary leverage ratio, or SLR, for bank holding companies will expire as scheduled on March 31. Additionally, the Board will shortly seek comment on measures to adjust the SLR. The Board will take appropriate actions to assure that any changes to the SLR do not erode the overall strength of bank capital requirements. To ease strains in the Treasury market resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and to promote lending to households and businesses, the Board temporarily modified the SLR last year to exclude U.S. Treasury securities and central bank reserves. Since that time, the Treasury market has stabilized. However, because of recent growth in the supply of central bank reserves and the issuance of Treasury securities, the Board may need to address the current design and calibration of the SLR over time to prevent strains from developing that could both constrain economic growth and undermine financial stability. To ensure that the SLR—which was established in 2014 as an additional capital requirement—remains effective in an environment of higher reserves, the Board will soon be inviting public comment on several potential SLR modifications. The proposal and comments will contribute to ongoing discussions with the Department of the Treasury and other regulators on future work to ensure the resiliency of the Treasury market.

The Fed's soothing wods notwithstanding, having been primed for a favorable outcome, the Fed's disappointing announcement was hardly the news traders were hoping for and stocks tumbled...

Bond yields spiked...

... while the stock of JPM, which is the most exposed bank to SLR relief (as noted yesterday in \"Facing Up To JP Morgan's Leverage Relief Threats\")...

.... slumped.

In case you've been living under a rock, here's why you should care about the SLR decision: First, for those whomissed our primer on the issue, some background from JPM (ironically the one bank that has the most to lose from the Fed's decision) the bottom line is that without SLR relief, banks may have to delever, raise new capital, halt buybacks, sell preferred stock, turn down deposits and generally push back on reserves (not necessarily all of these, and not in that order) just as the Fed is injecting hundreds of billions of reserves into the market as the Treasury depletes its TGA account.

The massive expansion of the Fed’s balance that has occurred implied an equally massive growth in bank reserves held at Federal Reserve banks. The expiration of the regulatory relief would add ~$2.1tn of leverage exposure across the 8 GSIBs. As well, TGA reduction and continued QE could add another ~$2.35tn of deposits to the system during 2021.

While the expiry of the carve-out on March 31 would not have an immediate impact on GSIBs, the continued increase in leverage assets throughout the course of the year would increase long-term debt (LTD) and preferred requirements. Here, JPM takes an optimistic view and writes that\"even the “worst” case issuance scenario as very manageable, with LTD needs of $35bn for TLAC requirements and preferred needs of $15-$20bn to maintain the industry-wide SLR at 5.6%.

The constraint is greater at the bank entity, where the capacity to grow leverage exposure to be ~$765bn at 6.2% SLR.\"Goldman's take was more troubling: the bank estimated that under the continued QE regime, there would be a shortfall of some $2 trillion in reserve capacity, mainly in the form of deposits which the banks would be unable to accept as part of ongoing QE (much more in Goldman'sfull take of the SLR quandary).

So what happens next?

Addressing this topic, yesterday Curvature's Scott Skyrm wrote that \"the largest banks are enjoying much larger balance sheets, but there are political factors in Washington that are against an extension of the exemption.... Here are a couple of scenarios and their implications on the Repo market:

The exemption is extended 3 months or 6 months - No impact on the Repo market. It's already fully priced-in.The exemption is continued for reserves, but ended for Treasurys. Since large banks are the largest cash providers in the Repo market, less cash is intermediated into the market and Repo rates rise. Volatility increases as Repo assets move from the largest banks to the other Repo market participants. The exemption is ended for both reserves and Treasurys. Same as above.

In other words, Skyrm has a relatively downbeat view, warning that \"since large banks are the largest cash providers in the Repo market, less cash is intermediated into the market and Repo rates rise.\" Additionally, volatility is likely to increase as repo assets move from the largest banks to the other Repo market participants...

Perhaps a bit too draconian? Well, last week, JPMorgan laid out 5 scenarios for SLR, of which two predicted the end of SLR relief on March 31, as follow:

3. Relief ends March 31, banks fully raise capital Impact on BanksRatesFront-End Rates 4. Relief ends March 31, banks raise capital & de-lever Impact on BanksRatesFront-End Rates

Going back to Zoltan, let's recallthat the repo gurualso cautioned that \"ending the exemption of reserves and Treasuries from the calculation of the SLR may mean that U.S. banks will turn away deposits and reserves on the margin (not Treasuries) to leave more room for market-making activities, and these flows will swell further money funds’ inflows coming from TGA drawdowns.\"

More importantly, Zoltan does not expect broad chaos in repo or broader markets, and instead provides a more benign view on the negligible impact the SLR has had (and will be if it is eliminated), as he explained in a note from Tuesday.

How to determine if Zoltan's benign view is correct? The Fed's soothing wods notwithstanding, having been primed for a favorable outcome, the Fed's disappointing announcement was hardly the news traders were hoping for and stocks tumbled...Bond yields spiked...... while the stock of JPM, which is the most exposed bank to SLR relief (as noted yesterday in \"Facing Up To JP Morgan's Leverage Relief Threats\")....... As well, TGA reduction and continued QE could add another ~$2.35tn of deposits to the system during 2021.While the expiry of the carve-out on March 31 would not have an immediate impact on GSIBs, the continued increase in leverage assets throughout the course of the year would increase long-term debt (LTD) and preferred requirements. Here, JPM takes an optimistic view and writes that\"even the “worst” case issuance scenario as very manageable, with LTD needs of $35bn for TLAC requirements and preferred needs of $15-$20bn to maintain the industry-wide SLR at 5.6%.The constraint is greater at the bank entity, where the capacity to grow leverage exposure to be ~$765bn at 6.2% SLR.\"Goldman's take was more troubling: the bank estimated that under the continued QE regime, there would be a shortfall of some $2 trillion in reserve capacity, mainly in the form of deposits which the banks would be unable to accept as part of ongoing QE (much more in Goldman'sfull take of the SLR quandary). So what happens next?Addressing this topic, yesterday Curvature's Scott Skyrm wrote that \"the largest banks are enjoying much larger balance sheets, but there are political factors in Washington that are against an extension of the exemption.... Here are a couple of scenarios and their implications on the Repo market:The exemption is extended 3 months or 6 months - No impact on the Repo market. In other words, Skyrm has a relatively downbeat view, warning that \"since large banks are the largest cash providers in the Repo market, less cash is intermediated into the market and Repo rates rise.\" Additionally, volatility is likely to increase as repo assets move from the largest banks to the other Repo market participants...Perhaps a bit too draconian? Well, last week, JPMorgan laid out 5 scenarios for SLR, of which two predicted the end of SLR relief on March 31, as follow:3. Relief ends March 31, banks fully raise capital Impact on BanksRatesFront-End Rates 4. Relief ends March 31, banks raise capital & de-lever Impact on BanksRatesFront-End RatesGoing back to Zoltan, let's recallthat the repo gurualso cautioned that \"ending the exemption of reserves and Treasuries from the calculation of the SLR may mean that U.S. banks will turn away deposits and reserves on the margin (not Treasuries) to leave more room for market-making activities, and these flows will swell further money funds’ inflows coming from TGA drawdowns.\"More importantly, Zoltan does not expect broad chaos in repo or broader markets, and instead provides a more benign view on the negligible impact the SLR has had (and will be if it is eliminated), as he explained in a note from Tuesday. How to determine if Zoltan's benign view is correct? He concluded his note by writing that \"given that our call for a zero-to-negative FRA-OIS spread by the end of June was predicated on the end of SLR extension and an assumption that the Fed will try to fix a quantity problem with prices, not quantities, today’s adjustments mean that FRA-OIS won’t trade all the way down to zero or negative territory.\"FRA-OIS from here will be a function of how tight FX swaps will trade relative to OIS, but Treasury bills trading at deeply sub-zero rates is no longer a risk...While Bills have occasionally dipped into the negative territory on occasion, so far they have avoided a fullblown plunge into NIRP, which may be just the positive sign the market is waiting for to ease the nerves associated with the sudden and largely unexpected end of the SLR exemption.* * *Finally, for those curious what the immediate market impact will be, NatWest strategist Blake Gwinn writes that the Fed announcement that they’re letting regulatory exemptions for banks expire at the end of the month \"really threads the needle and \"assuages concerns about the potential long-term impact on the markets\" asthe SLR \"ends it but defuses a lot of the knee-jerk market reaction” by pledging to address the current design and calibration of the supplementary leverage ratio to prevent strains from developing.“I was never worried about a day-one bank puke of Treasuries or drawdown in repo or anything like that on no renewal,” Gwinn said. “My concern was the longer run,” like as reserves continue to rise, would the SLR “become a nuisance and drag on Treasuries and spreads” Gwinn concludes that with the statement, the Fed is\"really speaking to those fears and basically saying, ‘don’t worry, we are on it’.”Well, with yields spiking to HOD in early quad-witch trading, the market sure seems quite skeptical that the Fed is on anything.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":467,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":135081084,"gmtCreate":1622122537648,"gmtModify":1704179855908,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/135081084","repostId":"1154877560","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1154877560","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1622122359,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1154877560?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-27 21:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow rises 200 points amid better-than-expected jobs data, Boeing shares jump","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1154877560","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stocks climbed on Thursday as investors digested stronger-than-expected labor-market data. The D","content":"
U.S. stocks climbed on Thursday as investors digested stronger-than-expected labor-market data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 200 points. Place your bets!
\n
\n
One of the hotter stocks as of late is recent Direct Listing, Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR). Some investors were expecting the company was expected to release blowout earnings today and fell short of that. The company did post incredible revenue growth, and the path forward looks bright as well. However, investors were disappointed with just how bright that picture is according to the company. The stock is falling leading up to the end of the lock-up period as expected. Next week will tell a better story as to where this stock is headed. If you are feeling risky, jump aboard.
\n
Who Are They?
\n
If you are like me, you likely had no idea who this company was or what they did. Well, Palantir Technologies Inc. has been around since 2003 and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. In short, they build and deploy software platforms for the intelligence community in the USA to assist in counterterrorism investigations and operations.
\n
Palantir Gothamis a software program that identifies patterns hidden deep within datasets. This helps execute real-world responses to threats that have been identified within the platform. This was used in the efforts to help those in need in hurricane Florence in 2018. Palantir Gothamcombined publicly available flood data with weather information and social vulnerability census data to find the communities in greatest needand resources were deployed appropriately. More recently, they are providing the U.S. government with coronavirus tracking software.
\n
The company also provides Palantir Foundry,a platform that transforms the ways organizations operate by creating a central operating system for their data; and allows individual users to integrate and analyze the data they need in one place.
\n
Pretty cool hey?
\n
What Is Driving The Company?
\n
Revenue. This is a growth play, plain and simple. Looking below we can see what is forecasted down the pipe. The missing block is 2020, which we found out todaywas $1.1 billion. That is a ~47% increase year-over-year. Going forward, analysts are projecting the pace stays heavy at 35%+ per year revenue growth. Often we consider 20% being strong, so that makes this look really good. For the fourth quarter, the company posted $322.1 million in revenue for the quarter, which was a beat by 20%.
\n

\n
(Source: TIKR.com)
\n
The shock came from theloss per share which totaled $0.08 versus the positive $0.02 consensus. The stock fell over 12% today on the earnings news. Upon diving deeper, it would appear most investors were disappointed with the forward forecasts. I personally think they are sandbagging a bit to blow away consensus down the line, but time will tell how true that is. Based on everything the company had put out in terms of news, which is nicely outlined inJohn Rhodes article : Palantir: Potential Q4 Revenue Blowoutmost people expected the revenue beat, but the action in the stock over the last week showed otherwise.
\n
Data has become more relevant to the average person than ever before. The local news has all kinds of data on it when it comes to COVID-19.In 2020, Palantir helped 100 commercial organizations and 10 national governments respond to COVID-19. This has been a large opportunity for Palantir, and they have not squandered it. This response has helped earn thema 2-year contract for U.K. health services work worth $31.5 million. In the fourth quarter alone, the company signed21 deals worth more than $5 million. 12 of which were worth $10 million or more. Revenue growth will continue to be the future of Palantir.
\n
Some of the best business going is government business. For the year, Palantir saw56% of their revenue or $610 million come from government contracts. While the commercial side saw higher year-over-year growth at 107%, a 77% increase in government-based revenue isn't anything to laugh at. One of the more impressive pieces was that we saw happen with the average customer.Revenue increased by 41% year-over-year. Up to $7.9 million per customer from $5.6 million. This is an important metric to keep an eye on as customers hand more and more business over to Palantir as they continue to develop and improve their systems. The other factor playing into this is Palantir pulling larger customers into the fold. The new customers acquired in 2020, generated $42 million in revenue.
\n

\n
(Company Presentation)
\n
So all of this and we still sit down 12% today? As I mentioned above, it was the forward forecasts that people were a bit shocked at. Palantir said toexpect revenue growth in excess of 30% for 2021. This would be fantastic news for most companies, but after you just posted a 47% growth year, it is a bit saddening. But as I said, I think they are sandbagging a bit. Analysts are still projecting about a 35% increase for 2021. Something tells me they will outdo that as the year goes on. The company did state that they are targeting $4 billion in revenue by 2025, which carrying 30% per year growth from here will get you. I fully expect that number to creep closer to $5 billion based on current projections. Palantir is going after the \"big fish\" across multiple industries.8 of their customers fall into the Fortune 100, and 12 of the Global 100. As their products continue to develop and improve, their bottom line is only going to get better. I think there is a lot of room to run here in the long term.
\n
What Are The Risks?
\n
One of the up-and-coming risks is the lock-up period ending, which I will touch on below. Besides that, I will look at the government contracts. Yes, they are some of the most important, but that's not to say they come without risk. In the past, Palantir has said they need to focus more so on commercial customers to help the bottom line and to turn a profit (part of the reason for the earnings sell-off). As we can see, they have landed some big-time commercial clients, but that government aspect still exists.
\n
Something to keep in mind as well is that dealing with the government can lead to crossing some lines that some are not okay with. As reported by the Washington Post,in 2018, more than 200 employees signed a letter to CEO Alex Karp, citing concerns over a partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Multiple other big tech companies have been forced to cut ties with government agencies in the past over potential human rights violations.
\n
That said, I do really think the company will continue to do very well in the commercial sector and well reduce the overall government exposure overtime.
\n
What's The \"Lock-Up Period\"?
\n
The one concern many have had with Palantir is the lock-up period, which ends on February 19th (Friday). Typically, this is where we will see the lows kick in on IPO's that go this route, but it is not always the case.
\n
\n Looking at 15 stocks that sawtheir lock-up periods expire in the first two weeks of October, the majority of shares started to fall in the days before the expiration date, prior to bouncing back three to five days afterwards. However, some saw virtually no selling pressure on the day and the share price immediately climbed once the lock-up had ended.\n
\n
What is it? Well in short, instead of an IPO where new shares of the company are created and are underwritten by an intermediary, we have a Direct Listing. This is wherethe business sells shares directly to the public without the help of any intermediaries. It does not involve any underwriters or other intermediaries, there are no new shares issued. This means the largest shareholders in the business can only freely sell their shares after the IPO lock-up expiration. Spotify (SPOT) and Slack (WORK) are two examples of companies that went the Direct Listing route. That said, neither of these companies had lock-up periods for employees.
\n
So what does this mean? Well, given thatMarketWatch said:
\n
\n For Palantir, though, years of venture-capital investments have created more than enough shares to launch public trading: roughly 1.64 billion, though that grows to 2.17 billion in a fully diluted formula that includes vesting options.\n
\n
It means that with roughly 497 million current outstanding shares, that we could see about 1.7 billion shares hit the market. Now that is not really likely, but what it does mean is that there should be less than average selling pressure on the stock considering the usually IPO accounts for 10% of shares released, while Palantir released over 20% based on the numbers provided above.
\n
Where are we now? Well as per the study quoted earlier, we are right on track. The stock is selling off in an orderly fashion right before the lock-up period ends. Now we have to wait and see what the rebound looks like. Or does everyone sell high and try and buy even lower? It is a bit of a wait-and-see. Let's take a look at what the technicals show us.
\n
What Does The Price Say?
\n
Taking a quick peek at the technicals, we can see a couple of really strong support levels. Firstly, we broke through a pretty big one at $30 today and did so in a big way, which is a bit concerning in the short term, but there is potential for a quick bounce to re-test that $30 mark quickly. If these markets have taught us anything, it's that they can move quickly! In a normal case, this is probably where my stop would be. But have not had a position until today, the game changes a bit as I take on more risk.
\n

\n
(Source: TC2000.com)
\n
When a stock as popular as Palantir tanks like we saw today, one of two things happens. Either the dip gets bought up and this stock will fly back up to $40, or we see Palantir drop down to ~$23. Because the stock is so new, we really do not have a good gauge for support. Looking below we can see roughly where I am pulling $23 out of. This is a pretty substantial move from here yet. Would be about 20% to the downside. If $23 breaks, it could go even further south.
\n

\n
(Source: TC2000.com)
\n
When trying to catch the bounce, you have to be prepared to average down. It is a totally different approach. Scale in, and scale-out.... all while knowing when to cut it loose. If you want to play this safe, watch for the bounce and try and get in then. I do think there will be a decent bounce that takes the stock back to $36-$40, but the question is when. This is not a long-term hold for me personally.
\n
Wrap-Up
\n
As you can see, there is a lot to like about the direction in which the company is headed. The valuation can always be debated, but at the end of the day, the value is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Palantir is a revenue machine and it is not going to slow down. They are playing with the \"big fish\" and the revenue will follow as long as they can continue to deliver on their goals. I am currently long, but watching closely as the lock-up period ends this week. If you are going long, make sure to scale in over the next couple of days and place your bets for which way this goes next week. Stay safe out there!
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Palantir: Buy The Dip
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nPalantir: Buy The Dip\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-02-19 14:59 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nPalantir posted solid revenue, but missed on earnings. If $23 breaks, it could go even further south.\n\n(Source: TC2000.com)\nWhen trying to catch the bounce, you have to be prepared to average down. It is a totally different approach. Scale in, and scale-out.... all while knowing when to cut it loose. If you want to play this safe, watch for the bounce and try and get in then. I do think there will be a decent bounce that takes the stock back to $36-$40, but the question is when. This is not a long-term hold for me personally.\nWrap-Up\nAs you can see, there is a lot to like about the direction in which the company is headed. Stay safe out there!","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":111,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":184401076,"gmtCreate":1623720393895,"gmtModify":1704209480141,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Come on","listText":"Come on","text":"Come on","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/184401076","repostId":"1131396369","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":411,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":371518218,"gmtCreate":1618960541934,"gmtModify":1704717404285,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh boy","listText":"Oh boy","text":"Oh boy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/371518218","repostId":"2129823787","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":378,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":373219645,"gmtCreate":1618847903087,"gmtModify":1704715891338,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/373219645","repostId":"1121126533","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1121126533","pubTimestamp":1618845021,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1121126533?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-19 23:10","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Netflix Reports Earnings Tuesday.
It also showed off plans to intensify collaboration with suppliers to recycle up to 95% of raw materials.
\n
Plus, the automaker announced it is aiming to open six new “gigafactories” in Europe by 2030, while also expanding its resources for electric cars.
\n
And following its announcement surrounding its electric vehicle (EV) and battery plans on Monday, the company saw its stock soar as much as 23% last week.
\n
Sounds like Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), or maybe Nio(NYSE:NIO) right?
\n
Nope. As many of you likely have already figured out, it was Volkswagen AG (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) — founded way back in 1937 — that made EV and stock market headlines last week.
\n
And my Fry’s Investment Report members were along for the ride — watching their month-old recommendation soar as VW out-Tesla-ed Tesla.
\n
Here’s how it happened…
\n
Under the Hood
\n
Prior to the past month, Volkswagen shares had been doing a whole lot of nothing for quite a while.
\n
The stock was up about 30% over the last two years and sported a market value of just shy of $110 billion. The chart below shows the striking divergence between Tesla’s extraordinary stock and Volkswagen’s merely ordinary one.
\n
Below, we look at the stocks of Tesla and VW over about the last month. As you can see, while Tesla is down 17%, Volkswagen is up 78%.
\n
I recommended VW to my Investment Report subscribers just weeks ago, on February 12. The stock has jumped as much as 123% since then. But as some investors have taken quick profits over the last couple days, VW has retreated somewhat.
\n
Volkswagen Group, the company, owns the Volkswagen brand of automobiles, of course. It also owns Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and other brands.
\n
In all, VW produces 9 million to 10 million cars per year. And it does so very profitably.
\n
Despite the COVID-challenged conditions of 2020, VW posted gross earnings (EBITDA) of $32 billion for the year and net income of $5.1 billion.
\n
For perspective, the company booked EBITDA of $43.6 billion in 2019. At the current quote, therefore, the stock is selling for just three times a very depressed EBITDA.
\n
But auto sales have been rebounding, and the company’s EBITDA is on track to rebound to about $40 billion this year.
\n
In most years, VW is the largest car company in the world. (Toyota Motor(NYSE:TM) is usually a close second.) But that status is no match for the alluring story that is powering Tesla shares from record high to record high.
\n
By contrast, Volkswagen shares had been merely plodding along at a respectable pace — tacking on a few percentage points per year while paying a 2.7% dividend.
\n
Kind of boring really.
\n
EV Race’s Next Gear
\n
But I expected that boredom to end in 2021, as Volkswagen not only recovers from the COVID bust but also establishes itself as the world’s No. 1 electric vehicle maker.
\n
Last year, the VW Group produced just five EV models. But it will be launching several new models this year, and every year after that throughout the rest of this decade.
\n
In 2022, for example, VW will begin selling the Audi Q5 e-tron SUV, the electric Porsche Macan, and the VW Buzz — an all-electric, retro-looking VW van.
\n
Importantly, VW isn’t simply introducing new BEVs. It is introducing several models that compete head-to-head with Teslas.
\n
For example, VW sold 20,000 Porsche Taycans last year and expects to boost that sales volume this year. The Taycan is a four-door sedan that rolls off the showroom floor for about $100,000 and can blast from 0 to 60 miles per hour in well under three seconds.
\n
So too can the Tesla S, reports New York Times writer Jack Ewing. He reports:
\n
But tests by Car and Driver confirmed Porsche’s assertion that the Taycan can replicate those blastoffs 10 times in a row, unlike the Tesla, which becomes sluggish with repeat use as the battery wears down… Porsche has found a way to maintain explosive acceleration even when the battery is not fully charged.
\n
In all, VW expects to offer more than 50 BEV models and 30 plug-in hybrids and to be selling 3 million EVs annually by 2025.
\n
To accomplish this feat, the company has invested gargantuan sums in R&D. Last year, VW spent about $15 billion on R&D — 10 times more than Tesla spent.
\n
Further, VW plans to invest $40 billion in “e-mobility” over the next few years, including $17 billion to expand its market-leading presence in China.
\n
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is also investing heavily in battery technology in order to gain an advantage over its rivals. Last May, the company spent $1.4 billion to acquire a stake in German battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech. Gotion develops the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, which is widely used in China.
\n
A couple months later, VW invested $300 million to boost its stake in QuantumScape Corp. (NYSE:QS), the high-tech battery venture that also attracted an investment from Bill Gates.
\n
Although QuantumScape’s claims about its solid-state battery technology have met with skepticism, it has won enough believers to achieve a $17 billion market value.
\n
Volkswagen owns 25.5% of QuantumScape. Yet, Volkswagen investors do not appear to be assigning much value to that $4.3 billion holding. It also showed off plans to intensify collaboration with suppliers to recycle up to 95% of raw materials.\nPlus, the automaker announced it is aiming to open six new “gigafactories” in Europe by 2030, while also expanding its resources for electric cars.\nAnd following its announcement surrounding its electric vehicle (EV) and battery plans on Monday, the company saw its stock soar as much as 23% last week.\nSounds like Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), or maybe Nio(NYSE:NIO) right?\nNope. As many of you likely have already figured out, it was Volkswagen AG (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) — founded way back in 1937 — that made EV and stock market headlines last week.\nAnd my Fry’s Investment Report members were along for the ride — watching their month-old recommendation soar as VW out-Tesla-ed Tesla.\nHere’s how it happened…\nUnder the Hood\nPrior to the past month, Volkswagen shares had been doing a whole lot of nothing for quite a while.\nThe stock was up about 30% over the last two years and sported a market value of just shy of $110 billion. The chart below shows the striking divergence between Tesla’s extraordinary stock and Volkswagen’s merely ordinary one.\nBelow, we look at the stocks of Tesla and VW over about the last month. As you can see, while Tesla is down 17%, Volkswagen is up 78%.\nI recommended VW to my Investment Report subscribers just weeks ago, on February 12. The stock has jumped as much as 123% since then. But as some investors have taken quick profits over the last couple days, VW has retreated somewhat.\nVolkswagen Group, the company, owns the Volkswagen brand of automobiles, of course. It also owns Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and other brands.\nIn all, VW produces 9 million to 10 million cars per year. And it does so very profitably.\nDespite the COVID-challenged conditions of 2020, VW posted gross earnings (EBITDA) of $32 billion for the year and net income of $5.1 billion.\nFor perspective, the company booked EBITDA of $43.6 billion in 2019. At the current quote, therefore, the stock is selling for just three times a very depressed EBITDA.\nBut auto sales have been rebounding, and the company’s EBITDA is on track to rebound to about $40 billion this year.\nIn most years, VW is the largest car company in the world. (Toyota Motor(NYSE:TM) is usually a close second.) But that status is no match for the alluring story that is powering Tesla shares from record high to record high.\nBy contrast, Volkswagen shares had been merely plodding along at a respectable pace — tacking on a few percentage points per year while paying a 2.7% dividend.\nKind of boring really.\nEV Race’s Next Gear\nBut I expected that boredom to end in 2021, as Volkswagen not only recovers from the COVID bust but also establishes itself as the world’s No. 1 electric vehicle maker.\nLast year, the VW Group produced just five EV models. But it will be launching several new models this year, and every year after that throughout the rest of this decade.\nIn 2022, for example, VW will begin selling the Audi Q5 e-tron SUV, the electric Porsche Macan, and the VW Buzz — an all-electric, retro-looking VW van.\nImportantly, VW isn’t simply introducing new BEVs. It is introducing several models that compete head-to-head with Teslas.\nFor example, VW sold 20,000 Porsche Taycans last year and expects to boost that sales volume this year. The Taycan is a four-door sedan that rolls off the showroom floor for about $100,000 and can blast from 0 to 60 miles per hour in well under three seconds.\nSo too can the Tesla S, reports New York Times writer Jack Ewing. He reports:\nBut tests by Car and Driver confirmed Porsche’s assertion that the Taycan can replicate those blastoffs 10 times in a row, unlike the Tesla, which becomes sluggish with repeat use as the battery wears down… Porsche has found a way to maintain explosive acceleration even when the battery is not fully charged.\nIn all, VW expects to offer more than 50 BEV models and 30 plug-in hybrids and to be selling 3 million EVs annually by 2025.\nTo accomplish this feat, the company has invested gargantuan sums in R&D. Last year, VW spent about $15 billion on R&D — 10 times more than Tesla spent.\nFurther, VW plans to invest $40 billion in “e-mobility” over the next few years, including $17 billion to expand its market-leading presence in China.\nMeanwhile, Volkswagen is also investing heavily in battery technology in order to gain an advantage over its rivals. Last May, the company spent $1.4 billion to acquire a stake in German battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech. Gotion develops the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, which is widely used in China.\nA couple months later, VW invested $300 million to boost its stake in QuantumScape Corp. (NYSE:QS), the high-tech battery venture that also attracted an investment from Bill Gates.\nAlthough QuantumScape’s claims about its solid-state battery technology have met with skepticism, it has won enough believers to achieve a $17 billion market value.\nVolkswagen owns 25.5% of QuantumScape. Yet, Volkswagen investors do not appear to be assigning much value to that $4.3 billion holding. So I think of its stock as a “free call option” on a possible breakthrough from QuantumScape.\nThen, there are all those announcements VW made on “Power Day” earlier last week.\nVolkswagen’s grand BEV ambitions are not merely an attempt to transition successfully to the next phase of human mobility. They are also an attempt to establish a new phase of robust profitability for the company.\nAnd its investors.\nA month ago, I predicted that “a double by the end of 2022 is well within reach.”\nSo far, so good.\nIn the brand-new issue of Fry’s Investment Report, I made my latest recommendation. It may not be able to soar to peak gains of more than 100% in a month — fast gains like that are truly rare.\nBut it has embarked on a new trajectory of long-term growth… growth that the 5G rollout could accelerate faster than most investors currently expect.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":393,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":387135054,"gmtCreate":1613726723678,"gmtModify":1704884184514,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"BTC go go","listText":"BTC go go","text":"BTC go go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/387135054","repostId":"2112816164","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":34,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":360964622,"gmtCreate":1613813240566,"gmtModify":1704885300622,"author":{"id":"3560422609897036","authorId":"3560422609897036","name":"Littleboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e738b4d33e2620c060e595e6d27459da","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560422609897036","authorIdStr":"3560422609897036"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/360964622","repostId":"1179306002","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179306002","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1613727528,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1179306002?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-19 17:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Big tech-led equity inflows fuelling 'mother-of-all asset bubbles': BofA","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179306002","media":"Reuters","summary":"LONDON (Reuters) - A record rush to big technology stocks saw equity funds bagging $27.8 billion inf","content":"
LONDON (Reuters) - A record rush to big technology stocks saw equity funds bagging $27.8 billion inflows last week with the ongoing ultra-easy monetary policy creating the “mother-of-all asset bubbles”, BofA said on Friday.

Global market capitalisation has risen $50 trillion, or $6.2 billion per hour, since last March, almost ten times faster than the pace seen in the immediate aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, the U.S. investment bank said.

Big tech attracted a record $19 billion inflows in the last six weeks.
