The figures easily crushed analyst expectations, despite the fact that production of the company's flagship Model S and Model X vehicles has been halted, as Tesla is retooling those production lines for the refreshed versions that were announced earlier this year.
\n
In the wake of the news, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives upgraded his rating on Tesla shares from neutral to outperform while boosting his price target from $950 to $1,000. Here's what investors need to know.
\n
The new Model S interior. Meanwhile, early reactions to the updated Model S and Model X interior are also encouraging. The interior refresh is the most meaningful update to the more expensive vehicles to date, although some aspects such as having the cars predict which gear the driver wants to be in are controversial.
\n
Wedbush was particularly impressed with the results, suggesting that Tesla could be a long-term beneficiary of what Ives dubs a \"Green Tidal Wave\" thesis. The figures easily crushed analyst expectations, despite the fact that production of the company's flagship Model S and Model X vehicles has been halted, as Tesla is retooling those production lines for the refreshed versions that were announced earlier this year.\nIn the wake of the news, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives upgraded his rating on Tesla shares from neutral to outperform while boosting his price target from $950 to $1,000. Here's what investors need to know.\nThe new Model S interior. Image source: Tesla.\nTesla will ride the \"Green Tidal Wave\"\nIn terms of the production and delivery numbers, the electric vehicle (EV) leader delivered nearly 185,000 vehicles in the first quarter, while analysts were expecting just 168,000 deliveries.\n\n\n\nVehicle Family\nQ1 2021 Production\nQ1 2021 Deliveries\n\n\n\n\nModel S/X\n0\n2,020\n\n\nModel 3/Y\n180,338\n182,780\n\n\nTotal\n180,338\n184,800\n\n\n\nData source: Tesla.\nTesla noted that the Model Y, which recently commenced production at the company's factory in Shanghai, is enjoying a strong reception in China. Meanwhile, early reactions to the updated Model S and Model X interior are also encouraging. The interior refresh is the most meaningful update to the more expensive vehicles to date, although some aspects such as having the cars predict which gear the driver wants to be in are controversial.\nWedbush was particularly impressed with the results, suggesting that Tesla could be a long-term beneficiary of what Ives dubs a \"Green Tidal Wave\" thesis. There are high expectations that the Biden administration will enact policies that are supportive of EVs and the broader fight against climate change, including the possibility of reinstating the EV federal tax credit for Tesla and General Motors.\n\"In our opinion the 1Q delivery numbers released on Friday was a paradigm changer and shows that the pent-up demand globally for Tesla's Model 3/Y is hitting its next stage of growth as part of a global green tidal wave under way,\" the analyst wrote in a research note to investors. \"We now believe Tesla could exceed 850k deliveries for the year with 900k a stretch goal, despite the chip shortage and various supply chain issues lingering across the auto sector.\"\nTopping 850,000 in 2021 deliveries would represent significant growth from the roughly 500,000 cars that Tesla delivered in 2020. The administration aims to approve a first proposal designed to create jobs, revamp U.S. infrastructure and fight climate change before it turns toward a second plan to improve education and expand paid leave and health-care coverage.\nThrough the plan announced Wednesday, the White House aims to show it can “revitalize our national imagination and put millions of Americans to work right now,” the administration official said.\nThe White House plans to fund the spending by raising the corporate tax rate to 28%. Republicans slashed the levy to 21% from 35% as part of their 2017 tax law.\nThe administration also aims to boost the global minimum tax for multinational corporations and ensure they pay at least 21%. The White House also aims to discourage firms from listing tax havens as their address and writing off expenses related to offshoring, among other reforms.\nBiden hopes the package will create manufacturing jobs and rescue failing American infrastructure as the country tries to emerge from the shadow of Covid-19. He and congressional Democrats also aim to combat climate change and start a transition to cleaner energy sources.\nThe president was set to announce his plans in Pittsburgh, a city where organized labor has a strong presence and the economy has undergone a shift from traditional manufacturing and mining to health care and technology. Biden, who has pledged to create union jobs as part of the infrastructure plan, launched his presidential campaign at a Pittsburgh union hall in 2019.\nWhile Democrats narrowly control both chambers of Congress, the party faces challenges in passing the infrastructure plan. The GOP broadly supports efforts to rebuild roads, bridges and airports and expand broadband access, but Republicans oppose tax hikes as part of the process.\n“We’re hearing the next few months might bring a so-called infrastructure proposal that may actually be a Trojan horse for massive tax hikes and other job-killing left-wing policies,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said earlier this month.\nBiden has said he hopes to win Republican support for an infrastructure bill. If Democrats cannot get 10 GOP senators on board, they will have to try to pass the bill through budget reconciliation, which would not require any Republicans to back the plan in a chamber split 50-50 by party.\nThey would also have to consider whether to package the physical infrastructure plans with other recovery policies including universal pre-K and expanded paid leave. Republicans likely would not back more spending to boost the social safety net, especially if Democrats move to hike taxes on the wealthy to fund programs.\nThe administration official did not say whether Biden would seek to pass the plan with bipartisan support.\n“We will begin and will already have begun to do extensive outreach to our counterparts in Congress,” the official said.\nAsked Monday about how the bill could pass, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden would “leave the mechanics of bill passing to [Senate Majority] Leader [Chuck] Schumer and other leaders in Congress.”\nAs of now, Democrats will have two more shots at budget reconciliation before the 2022 midterms. Schumer, D-N.Y., hopes to convince the chamber’s parliamentarian to allow Democrats to use the process at least once more beyond those two opportunities, according to NBC News.\nThe party passed its $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package without a Republican vote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":354126114,"gmtCreate":1617152988238,"gmtModify":1704696458020,"author":{"id":"3560512813846492","authorId":"3560512813846492","name":"DDay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d245eabe23251bc39d7dc319849b5db0","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560512813846492","authorIdStr":"3560512813846492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ASPEN (GROUP) HOLDINGS LIMITED(1F3.SI)$ Time to wake up! Last year, the volatility brought about by the coronavirus pandemic led to the quickest decline of more than 30% in theS&P 500's storied history, as well as the fastest rebound back to all-time highs.
\n
In 2021, an unexpected catalyst has taken over as a key market driver:retail investors.
\n
The important question retail investors should be asking about AMC and GameStop
\n
Beginning in mid-January, retail investors from Reddit's WallStreetBets chat room began banding together to buy shares and out-of-the-money call options in companies with high levels of short interest (i.e., stocks where a lot of investors are betting on a share price decline). Both video game and accessories retailerGameStop(NYSE: GME)and movie theater chainAMC Entertainment(NYSE: AMC)fit the bill. GameStop was the most short-sold stock of any publicly traded company, with AMC also heavily short-sold and sporting a penny stock share price (which is itself a major lure for young retail investors).
\n
Without getting too far into the weeds, the goal of these retail investors was to effect ashort squeezeand put a hurting on the so-called big money. Institutional investors and hedge funds are the primary holders of short positions. By creating a short squeeze, retail investors sent pessimists fleeing for the exit, further vaulting companies like GameStop and AMC to the upside.
\n
But tenured investors are also keenly aware that a company's operating performancematters far more than any short-term euphoria. With short-squeezes highly unlikely to support GameStop's or AMC's market valuations over the long run, the question becomes this: When will these turnaround candidates be profitable?
\n
Let's take a closer look.
\n
GameStop's multiyear transformation is a work in progress
\n
To get the obvious out of the way, GameStop endured a rough 2020 because of the pandemic. Some of its stores were closed, with others seeing dramatically reduced foot traffic. This did not help an already struggling company.
\n
The problem for GameStop is thatit's a victim of its own success. Over two decades, it became one of the dominant retailers of new and used video games, consoles, and accessories. The used game market, which allowed the company to repurchase and resell physical games, was an especially lucrative venture for the company. With things going so well for so long, management continued down the same path.
\n
However, this success came to an abrupt halt a few years ago. With gamers steadily shifting to digital platforms, GameStop's brick-and-mortar empire quickly transformed from an asset to a liability. Despite its best efforts to promote digital gaming -- GameStop's e-commerce sales in 2020 grew by 191% -- total revenue last yeardeclined by 21%, with the company shuttering 12% of its stores.
\n
In order for GameStop to get back into the profit column, it needs to continue to reinvest in digital growth initiatives, while at the same time curbing its spending by closing underperforming stores. Essentially, GameStop is going to back its way into the profit column. Full-year sales will remain relatively stagnant, but the higher margins associated with digital gaming, coupled with lower costs from a smaller store base, should eventually bring GameStop back to profitability.
\n
When might this happen? According to Wall Street's consensus estimates fromFactSet, it'll be three more years before GameStop is back in the profit column. If there is a positive here, it's that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) is expected to be positive this year, but EBITDA isn't the same as profitability.
\n
Considering how far GameStop has run, waiting three more years for an estimated $1.25 per share in profitis a tall order.
\n
AMC's future is murky, at best
\n
Compared to AMC Entertainment, GameStop had a cakewalk in 2020. The pandemic shuttered many of AMC's theaters, and most of those thathave reopenedhave capacity-limiting social distancing mandates in place.
\n
To get back to its glory days, AMC's game plan is to focus on harnessing film exclusivity in its theaters, reducing its debt load, and emphasizing high-margin alternative channels, such as its video on demand service. Losing exclusivity on film releases, or having its exclusivity window cut in any meaningful way, would prove devastating to AMC's chances of a successful turnaround.
\n
Making matters worse, the company has been forced to leverage itself to the hilt in order to survive. It ended 2020 with $5.7 billion in corporate borrowings, and has been paying north of a 10% interest rate on most of its debt issuances over the past year. Last year, the volatility brought about by the coronavirus pandemic led to the quickest decline of more than 30% in theS&P 500's storied history, as well as the fastest rebound back to all-time highs.\nIn 2021, an unexpected catalyst has taken over as a key market driver:retail investors.\nThe important question retail investors should be asking about AMC and GameStop\nBeginning in mid-January, retail investors from Reddit's WallStreetBets chat room began banding together to buy shares and out-of-the-money call options in companies with high levels of short interest (i.e., stocks where a lot of investors are betting on a share price decline). Both video game and accessories retailerGameStop(NYSE: GME)and movie theater chainAMC Entertainment(NYSE: AMC)fit the bill. GameStop was the most short-sold stock of any publicly traded company, with AMC also heavily short-sold and sporting a penny stock share price (which is itself a major lure for young retail investors).\nWithout getting too far into the weeds, the goal of these retail investors was to effect ashort squeezeand put a hurting on the so-called big money. Institutional investors and hedge funds are the primary holders of short positions. By creating a short squeeze, retail investors sent pessimists fleeing for the exit, further vaulting companies like GameStop and AMC to the upside.\nBut tenured investors are also keenly aware that a company's operating performancematters far more than any short-term euphoria. With short-squeezes highly unlikely to support GameStop's or AMC's market valuations over the long run, the question becomes this: When will these turnaround candidates be profitable?\nLet's take a closer look.\nGameStop's multiyear transformation is a work in progress\nTo get the obvious out of the way, GameStop endured a rough 2020 because of the pandemic. Some of its stores were closed, with others seeing dramatically reduced foot traffic. This did not help an already struggling company.\nThe problem for GameStop is thatit's a victim of its own success. Over two decades, it became one of the dominant retailers of new and used video games, consoles, and accessories. The used game market, which allowed the company to repurchase and resell physical games, was an especially lucrative venture for the company. With things going so well for so long, management continued down the same path.\nHowever, this success came to an abrupt halt a few years ago. With gamers steadily shifting to digital platforms, GameStop's brick-and-mortar empire quickly transformed from an asset to a liability. Despite its best efforts to promote digital gaming -- GameStop's e-commerce sales in 2020 grew by 191% -- total revenue last yeardeclined by 21%, with the company shuttering 12% of its stores.\nIn order for GameStop to get back into the profit column, it needs to continue to reinvest in digital growth initiatives, while at the same time curbing its spending by closing underperforming stores. Essentially, GameStop is going to back its way into the profit column. Full-year sales will remain relatively stagnant, but the higher margins associated with digital gaming, coupled with lower costs from a smaller store base, should eventually bring GameStop back to profitability.\nWhen might this happen? According to Wall Street's consensus estimates fromFactSet, it'll be three more years before GameStop is back in the profit column. If there is a positive here, it's that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) is expected to be positive this year, but EBITDA isn't the same as profitability.\nConsidering how far GameStop has run, waiting three more years for an estimated $1.25 per share in profitis a tall order.\nAMC's future is murky, at best\nCompared to AMC Entertainment, GameStop had a cakewalk in 2020. The pandemic shuttered many of AMC's theaters, and most of those thathave reopenedhave capacity-limiting social distancing mandates in place.\nTo get back to its glory days, AMC's game plan is to focus on harnessing film exclusivity in its theaters, reducing its debt load, and emphasizing high-margin alternative channels, such as its video on demand service. AMC also needs the pandemic to wrap up in 2021, at least in the United States. The quicker its theaters can return to full capacity, the faster the company can address its most-pressing concerns.\nBut the issues with AMC look far less fixable than what GameStop is contending with.AT&Tsubsidiary WarnerMedia announced plans torelease all of its films on HBO Maxthe same day they'll hit theaters in 2021.Walt Disneywill do the same on its Disney+ streaming platform for a small number of movies. Losing exclusivity on film releases, or having its exclusivity window cut in any meaningful way, would prove devastating to AMC's chances of a successful turnaround.\nMaking matters worse, the company has been forced to leverage itself to the hilt in order to survive. It ended 2020 with $5.7 billion in corporate borrowings, and has been paying north of a 10% interest rate on most of its debt issuances over the past year. Social media-savvy retail investors have piled into NOK stock at a mind-boggling rate since the beginning of the year.
\n
Similar to other fan favorites such as GameStop (NYSE:GME) and AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC),Nokia saw a massive parabolic spike at the end of January. Since then, shares have fallen back to earth as retail investors focus their efforts increasingly on penny stocks with small floats.
\n
Indeed, the sheer float size of Nokia made it a head-scratcher for me as a potential short-squeeze stock. That’s neither here nor there.
\n
What has been particularly interesting to me is the excitement that has been brewing for beginner investors getting into options trading. Here’s my take on what investors should consider about options strategies.
\n
NOK Stock Options Trading Frenzy Is Exciting, but Dangerous
\n
Many investors have moved to looking at options strategies to trade NOK stock. I think seeing the “gain/loss porn” on social media sites can entice investors to get into these trades. However, I’ve got the following commentary.
\n
I’m generally a more conservative long-term investor looking at long/short strategies. Options generally don’t appeal to me, except in two scenarios:
\n
\n
I’d like to hedge out some earnings-specific or short-term risk on an overweight position. In this case, buying puts on an overweight position.
\n
I want to generate extra income on a stock I think might trade sideways over the near-term, but has great long-term upside potential. In this case, a covered call strategy.
\n
\n
Generally speaking, buying naked puts or calls is an extremely high risk proposition. Yes, it’s true that sometimes you can get it right and book some pretty impressive gains. However, most trades will be zeros. Writers selling the various options do so to make a profit. Like taking insurance at the blackjack table (options are supposed to be used as portfolio insurance), they’re generally losing bets.
\n
That’s not to say sometimes options can be mispriced due to sentiment. However, thinking you’re smarter than the market has bankrupted more than a few individuals.
\n
Now, writing/selling naked (uncovered) puts or calls is even more crazy. That’s because losses can be much larger than 100%. If you buy a call or put and it doesn’t work out, you lose that premium. Exposing oneself to potentially infinite losses is not a prudent investment strategy whatsoever.
\n
Covered Call Strategy Here’s an Interesting One
\n
Now, for investors bullish on NOK stock long-term (and I think there’s reason to be), a covered call strategy might make sense here.
\n
Nokia is a company with some pretty decent valuation metrics. It’s profitable, and is going to benefit greatly from a surge in 5G adoption. The catalysts are real with this company, and it’s actually a fundamentally-sound long-term investment. That makes NOK stock one of the few such “meme stocks” I’d put in this bucket.
\n
Accordingly, if you’re thinking of owning this stock for five years or longer, but want some additional income, covered calls are a great idea.
\n
I do think there’s a decent likelihood this stock will continue to trade within a relatively narrow range for some time. That said, a resurgence of volatility driven by retail investor sentiment certainly isn’t out of the question.
\n
Bottomline on NOK Stock
\n
If you’re in this investment for the long-haul, forget the naked options buying with NOK stock. Don’t worry about the lottery-ticket returns naked options can provide. Cheering for others praying for a bet to work out from the sidelines can be more satisfying long-term.
\n
Capital preservation should be a primary goal for investors. Accordingly, naked options trading is a game for those with either way too much money and a lot of time on their hands, or those with an extreme risk-loving preference.
\n
My worry is that this market mania may create an environment where beginner investors use options incorrectly, get burned, and never want to invest again. Investing conservatively for the long-term can be difficult when you see folks making ridiculous short-term returns trading naked options.
\n
However, when you see a social media post showing a massive options win, I relate this to how most degenerate gamblers will take a photo of a massive chip stack. They’re not going to take a photo of an oft-empty table, or them reloading at the cashiers cage multiple times in same the night after losing all their gains.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Nokia Stock Deserves a Word on Options Strategies for Meme Investors
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNokia Stock Deserves a Word on Options Strategies for Meme Investors\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-25 22:41 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Those bullish on NOK stock for the long term should bag the thought of naked options\nFinnish telecommunications network tech provider Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) is a stock that has, somehow, been ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NOK":"诺基亚"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/03/nokia-stock-deserves-a-word-on-options-strategies-for-meme-investors/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1116017322","content_text":"Those bullish on NOK stock for the long term should bag the thought of naked options\nFinnish telecommunications network tech provider Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) is a stock that has, somehow, been bestowed with meme stock status of late. All three firms bounced after falling in premarket trading.

Credit Suisse slid as much as 0.6% in U.S. trading after rising earlier in Zurich, even after the bank said it will take a 4.4 billion-franc ($4.7 billion) writedown tied to the implosion of Archegos. The S&P 500 Index was little changed Tuesday morning.

Shares of companies involved in earlier block trades totaling more than $20 billion have had a rocky ride after Hwang and his private investment firm became the center of one of the biggest margin calls of all time. A basket of equally weighted shares linked to the fund has slumped about 33% since hitting a peak on March 22, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

“The aftermath of the Archegos Capital meltdown appears to be mostly priced in,” said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda Corp. “Prime brokerages will have to deal with further regulatory reviews and greater transparency may end up being required to avoid family offices from circumventing federal security laws. A basket of equally weighted shares linked to the fund has slumped about 33% since hitting a peak on March 22, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.“The aftermath of the Archegos Capital meltdown appears to be mostly priced in,” said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda Corp. “Prime brokerages will have to deal with further regulatory reviews and greater transparency may end up being required to avoid family offices from circumventing federal security laws. Deal","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197750491","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- BritishVolt Ltd., the developer of the first giant battery factory in the U.K., is co","content":"
(Bloomberg) -- BritishVolt Ltd., the developer of the first giant battery factory in the U.K., is considering going public.

The company has appointed Barclays Plc and Guggenheim Capital LLC as advisers to look into options including listing in the U.S. through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, Orral Nadjari, founder and chief executive officer of BritishVolt, said in an interview. The deal could be announced as soon as the end of this quarter, he said.

It’s the first time the company has talked in detail about its plans to finance the 2.6 billion-pound ($3.6 billion) project that will play a central role in delivering Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s green plan. The U.K. has banned sales of new gasoline and diesel cars by 2030, and needs a factory producing batteries for electric vehicles to avoid falling behind in the global race to lead manufacturing for the energy transition.

“The SPAC market is very interesting and is the result of the very mature capital markets in the U.S. that have identified the industrial revolution that is happening now, when we go from the era of internal combustion engine towards an era of electrification,” Nadjari said. “There will be a lot of scale-ups that will need a lot of capital.”

The company hasn’t identified any automotive customers yet, and it’s unclear if any automaker will agree on a supply deal with an upstart that’s still seeking funding. Nadjari, a former investment banker, says he’s not worried.

If BritishVolt does agree a SPAC deal, the target to announce it will be the end of the second quarter or beginning of the third, Nadjari said.

Based in Blyth in northeast England, the company is planning to launch its series B funding round next week to raise as much as 100 million pounds, with Barclays as its financial adviser, Nadjari said. The round already has “a lot of interest” and series C will follow before summer with a cap of 250 million pounds.

The series A funding round, which closed in February, made William Harrison, chief executive officer of private equity firm Cathexis Holdings LP, the second-largest shareholder, after Nadjari. Cathexis is the family office of Harrison investing from a low of $3 million in niche EV deals, to more than $100 million when buying established companies or financing infrastructure and real estate, according to its website.

Because of its exit from the European Union, the U.K.’s auto industry has little time to localize production of batteries. The Brexit deal reached late in 2020 requires 30% of the content of battery packs for U.K.-built cars to be sourced domestically; the regulation gets tougher in 2024.

“The new rules of origin should provide the conditions for the U.K. automotive industry to succeed,” said Stephen Gifford, chief economist at the Faraday Institution, which researches commercial battery developments. “But, to do so, it is now more important than ever that gigafactories are built in the U.K., and quickly, and with well-developed local supply chains.”

Ministers are determined for the U.K. to stay in the mix of leading battery-makers in Europe. The deal could be announced as soon as the end of this quarter, he said. It’s the first time the company has talked in detail about its plans to finance the 2.6 billion-pound ($3.6 billion) project that will play a central role in delivering Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s green plan. The U.K. has banned sales of new gasoline and diesel cars by 2030, and needs a factory producing batteries for electric vehicles to avoid falling behind in the global race to lead manufacturing for the energy transition.“The SPAC market is very interesting and is the result of the very mature capital markets in the U.S. that have identified the industrial revolution that is happening now, when we go from the era of internal combustion engine towards an era of electrification,” Nadjari said. “There will be a lot of scale-ups that will need a lot of capital.”The company hasn’t identified any automotive customers yet, and it’s unclear if any automaker will agree on a supply deal with an upstart that’s still seeking funding. Nadjari, a former investment banker, says he’s not worried. If BritishVolt does agree a SPAC deal, the target to announce it will be the end of the second quarter or beginning of the third, Nadjari said.Based in Blyth in northeast England, the company is planning to launch its series B funding round next week to raise as much as 100 million pounds, with Barclays as its financial adviser, Nadjari said. The round already has “a lot of interest” and series C will follow before summer with a cap of 250 million pounds. The series A funding round, which closed in February, made William Harrison, chief executive officer of private equity firm Cathexis Holdings LP, the second-largest shareholder, after Nadjari. Cathexis is the family office of Harrison investing from a low of $3 million in niche EV deals, to more than $100 million when buying established companies or financing infrastructure and real estate, according to its website.Because of its exit from the European Union, the U.K.’s auto industry has little time to localize production of batteries. The Brexit deal reached late in 2020 requires 30% of the content of battery packs for U.K.-built cars to be sourced domestically; the regulation gets tougher in 2024.“The new rules of origin should provide the conditions for the U.K. automotive industry to succeed,” said Stephen Gifford, chief economist at the Faraday Institution, which researches commercial battery developments. “But, to do so, it is now more important than ever that gigafactories are built in the U.K., and quickly, and with well-developed local supply chains.”Ministers are determined for the U.K. to stay in the mix of leading battery-makers in Europe. Johnson has committed 1 billion pounds to help build factories that can produce batteries at scale. BritishVolt has applied for some of the funding and is waiting to hear back.“We have had very fruitful conversations with the government,” Nadjari said. “Definitely government funding is critical for large industrial investment such as BritishVolt.”The Faraday Institution estimates the U.K. will need seven giant factories by 2040, each producing 20 gigawatt-hours per year of batteries.
