The real value comes from holding on to your stocks for years -- decades is best -- and watching as their businesses grow and appreciate. Genuine Parts
\n
You may know aftermarket auto parts retailer Genuine Parts (NYSE:GPC) better as the owner of NAPA Auto Parts stores. It has a long history of outperformance with sales growing in 87 of the last 93 years (last year being one of those anomalies where revenue dropped, though for obvious reasons).
\n
Still, the long-term outlook remains not only positive, but quite upbeat. The auto industry was also hurt by the pandemic, which means people were buying new cars but keeping their rust buckets on the road longer and they'll need parts to keep them running.
\n
Worse for new car dealers, the computer chip shortage that's plaguing numerous industries, and the auto industry in particular, has manufacturers lowering expectations for production for the coming year. Ford just issued a fairly robust earnings report but its guidance that it expects production to fall by 1.1 million vehicles this year put a damper on its stock.
\n
Again, that means car owners will need to keep their current vehicles in good shape, so Genuine Parts will still be needed. And it's that constant ebb and flow of demand for people to fix their cars that has sustained the auto parts retailer over the past century, and will likely keep it motoring for at least another 100 years into the future. (Even if we're driving flying cars by then, owners will still need the parts to repair them.)
\n
One of the most attractive things about Genuine Parts, however, is its record of dividend payments. The company has paid investors a cash dividend every year since going public in 1928, and its payout this year of $3.26 per share represents the 65th consecutive year it increased the dividend, which currently yields 2.6% annually.
\n
2. Leggett & Platt
\n
Robinhood's meme stock crowd would probably never pile into Leggett & Platt (NYSE:LEG) because making innerspring coils for mattresses and sofas is not the sort of sexy play that pops up in internet chatrooms. Yet this study business has been around since 1883 and keeps chugging along largely out of view of the masses, but producing outsized returns for those in the know.
\n
Over the last 40 years, Leggett & Platt has returned almost 10,600% for investors, compared to nearly 3,800% by the S&P 500, meaning $10,000 invested in this oh-so-boring company at the start of 1980 would be worth well over $1 million today (the stock index would have generated $387,000 in the same time frame).
\n
Data by YCharts.
\n
Leggett & Platt has done that by sticking to its knitting, or rather its steel coils. It rarely extends far outside those operations, which account for half of its annual revenue, and when it does it tends to be in closely related fields.
\n
Beyond mattresses and sofas, the company supplies the auto and aerospace industries, furniture manufacturers, and flooring and textile businesses with products that are in some fashion closely related to its core components, such as mechanical and lumbar support for seats; They dominate their industries, generate tons of cash and are obscenely profitable. Yet neither of the companies are in the prestigious Dow Jones Industrial Average — and for a good reason.
\n
BothAmazon(AMZN)andAlphabet(GOOGL)have stock prices in the quadruple digits. That makes them a no-go for the Dow, which weights its 30 components by share price rather than market value. So if either Amazon (currently priced north of $3,300 a share) or Alphabet (trading at just under $2,300) joined theDow, they would immediately have an outsized impact on the Dow.It wouldn't even be close: The priciest Dow stock currently isUnitedHealth(UNH), and at just over $400 a share, it makes up about 8% of the Dow's weighting. The case for splitting sharesBut if Amazon and Alphabet wanted to join the Dow, there's a solution to this price problem: The companies could announce a stock split, which increases the number of shares of the company has while cutting the price of each share to a more affordable level. It wouldn't change the companies' value.
\n
That's whatApple(AAPL)did in 2014, and it wasadded to the Dow in early 2015. Applesplit its stock again last year. Elon Musk'sTesla(TSLA)executed its ownstock splitlast year to make its surging stock more accessible to individual investors.
\n
Beyond the Dow question, splits can be compelling because some experts argue that having a more affordable price for a single share could attract even more investors. But that's admittedly less of an issue due to fractional trading, in which investors can buy a small piece of a company's shares through online brokers like Robinhood, Fidelity or Charles Schwab. There have been rumors about Amazon potentially announcing a split soon, especially now that Jeff Bezos is getting ready tohand over the CEO reinsto AWS headAndy Jassy. But Amazon didn't mention anything about a potential split when the companyreported earnings last week.Amazon was not immediately available for comment when asked by CNN Business if the company was considering a stock split, while a spokesperson for Alphabet declined to comment.High profile companies are 'split' on whether to splitThe pair of tech giants aren't the only companies trading at sky-high stock prices. Priceline ownerBooking(BKNG),Chipotle(CMG)andAutoZone(AZO)are also prominent companies in the S&P 500 with stock prices in excess of $1,000 a share.A Booking spokesperson, when asked by CNN Business about a future stock split, said the company has \"considered this but have not really seen the need to do so as of now.\"Chipotle chief financial officer Jack Hartung said in an email to CNN Business that \"we do not have any plans to split our stock at this time, but if we see an opportunity to enhance shareholder value and remove impediments to interested investors owning our stock, we will discuss the opportunity with our Board.\"
\n
AutoZone was not immediately available for comment.Meanwhile, several other high-profile companies in addition to Apple and Tesla have announced stock splits lately.Spice companyMcCormick(MKC)split its stock in December — its first split in about 20 years. They dominate their industries, generate tons of cash and are obscenely profitable. Yet neither of the companies are in the prestigious Dow Jones Industrial Average — and for a good reason.\nBothAmazon(AMZN)andAlphabet(GOOGL)have stock prices in the quadruple digits. It wouldn't change the companies' value.\nThat's whatApple(AAPL)did in 2014, and it wasadded to the Dow in early 2015. Applesplit its stock again last year. Elon Musk'sTesla(TSLA)executed its ownstock splitlast year to make its surging stock more accessible to individual investors.\nBeyond the Dow question, splits can be compelling because some experts argue that having a more affordable price for a single share could attract even more investors. Priceline ownerBooking(BKNG),Chipotle(CMG)andAutoZone(AZO)are also prominent companies in the S&P 500 with stock prices in excess of $1,000 a share.A Booking spokesperson, when asked by CNN Business about a future stock split, said the company has \"considered this but have not really seen the need to do so as of now.\"Chipotle chief financial officer Jack Hartung said in an email to CNN Business that \"we do not have any plans to split our stock at this time, but if we see an opportunity to enhance shareholder value and remove impediments to interested investors owning our stock, we will discuss the opportunity with our Board.\"\nAutoZone was not immediately available for comment.Meanwhile, several other high-profile companies in addition to Apple and Tesla have announced stock splits lately.Spice companyMcCormick(MKC)split its stock in December — its first split in about 20 years. Paint giantSherwin-Williams(SHW)split in April \"to make the stock more accessible to employees and a broader base of investors,\" senior vice president of investor relations James Jaye said on a conference call with analysts last month. And railroadCanadian Pacific(CP), which is in a bidding war with rivalCanadian National(CNI)forKansas City Southern(KSU), is preparing for a split later this month. Some of the questions that came up in Saturday's livestream dealt with moves Berkshire made during the early stages of the pandemic last year -- including what led the company to exit most of its banking positions while loading up onBank of America(NYSE:BAC). After months of speculation, Buffett gave a little bit of insight into what drove his decision making.
\n
Too much exposure
\n
Prior to the pandemic, Berkshire owned a slate of bank stocks, and Buffett seemed to have a bullish stance toward the sector. However, as stay-at-home orders and economic shutdowns spread across the country and banks braced for heavy loan losses, Buffett seemed to do a 180 and exited many of his holdings.
\n
Berkshire eliminated its stake in investment bankGoldman Sachs and eventuallyJPMorgan Chase, America's largest bank by assets. Berkshire also sold its position in regional banks likePNC Financial Services Group andM&T Bank. And Buffett appears to be looking for an exit on former favoriteWells Fargo, selling shares gradually for the past several quarters.
\n
While all of this was going on, Buffett and Berkshire pumped more than $2 billion of stock into Bank of America and increased the company's stake to 11.9% of outstanding shares, a move that required special regulatory approval.
\n

\n
\n
While we don't yet know what moves Buffett has made in 2021, he doesn't appear to have done much, since the cost basis of Berkshire's bank, insurance, and finance stocks after the first quarter was just slightly higher than it was at the end of 2020.
\n
During the Q&A part of Berkshire's shareholder meeting, Buffett was asked why he had sold most of his bank stocks last year.
\n
\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten,\" Buffett said. \"We overall didn't want as much in banks as we had.\"
\n
The Oracle of Omaha added: \"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago. The banking business around the world -- in various places -- might worry me. But our banks are in far, far better shape than 10 or 15 years ago. But when things froze for a short period of time, the biggest thing the banks had going for them was that the Federal Reserve was behind them, and the Federal Reserve is not behind Berkshire. It's up to us take care of ourselves.\"
\n
What to make of this
\n
Buffett is one of the greatest investing minds of all time, if not No. 1, so it's important to realize that it will be difficult for us to see these moves exactly as he does. And I can certainly appreciate his remark about having too much exposure. Keep in mind, Buffett is managing an equities portfolio of hundreds of billions of dollars, so a few percentage points one way or the other is huge. He needs to think about safety much more than your standard responsible investor (Buffett sometimes refers to himself as Berkshire's \"chief risk officer,\" and he did so again on Saturday). But it really is difficult for me to understand all these moves.
\n
Goldman Sachs is not very loan-heavy, so it didn't really face the same degree of risk as other large banks like Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase. Investment banks also tend to do better in periods of volatility, and Goldman is working to build up its consumerbankand asset and wealth management divisions to generate steadier revenues. Goldman's stock is nearly 40% higher than it was prior to the pandemic, and many thinkit's still trading cheap.
\n
Buffett's decision to load up on Bank of America and dump JPMorgan as an even bigger mystery to me. JPMorgan not only has a more diversified business, but its earnings power is greater, as well. The bank is also extremely safe. Its reserves for loan losses peaked at $34 billion during 2020, but the bank was prepared for scenarios where its reserves would have peaked at $52 billion. JPMorgan also engineered its way through the Great Recession better than any of the largest banks in America. Buffett officially eliminated Berkshire's stake in JPMorgan in the fourth quarter of the year. Meanwhile, the stock is up nearly 21% year to date at Tuesday's prices, and Buffett likely missed out on even more appreciation, considering he sold the bulk of his JPMorgan position in the third quarter of 2020.
\n
Hindsight is, of course, 20/20, but the numbers are also the numbers, and Buffett missed out on huge gains on his former bank holdings that could just be getting started. Banks are potentially poised for a strong multiyear run, with earnings expected to jump in a rising-rate environment. Buffett did say Saturday that he is concerned about \"very substantial inflation,\" so maybe he thinks too much inflation may kill loan demand, or that rising rates might reveal bad credit quality. However, cyclical stocks like banks and financials tend to perform better during inflation than high-growth tech stocks, which Berkshire has recently made abigger part of its portfoliothan financials.
\n
Is Buffett done with banking?
\n
Buffett has not abandoned the sector altogether. Bank of America is still Berkshire's second-largest holding behindApple. Berkshire also still has large positions inAmerican Express, U.S. Bancorp, andBank of New York Mellon. Buffett also may not be pulling all the strings here -- he's ceded a lot of Berkshire's investing authority to others who may be making the decisions. It has long been known that two of Buffett's lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, are much more involved in Berkshire's portfolio decisions now. In addition, Berkshire recently confirmed that Berkshire's Vice Chairman Greg Abel isexpected to succeed Buffettas CEO when he eventually steps aside.
\n
But with all that has recently happened, it does seem like it could be a while until we see Berkshire buy traditional bank stocks again.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here's How Warren Buffett Explained Berkshire Hathaway's Bank Selloff
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere's How Warren Buffett Explained Berkshire Hathaway's Bank Selloff\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-05 10:14 GMT+8 The motley fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Berkshire Hathaway's(NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B)annual shareholder meeting and its marathon question-and-answer session have once again come and gone, offering investors another glimpse into the ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BRK.A":"伯克希尔","BRK.B":"伯克希尔B"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/05/04/heres-how-warren-buffett-explained-berkshire-hatha/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1132504423","content_text":"Berkshire Hathaway's(NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B)annual shareholder meeting and its marathon question-and-answer session have once again come and gone, offering investors another glimpse into the extraordinary mind of legendary investor Warren Buffett. In a way, doge then is more like a USD but in a digital form,” he wrote.Bubbles & maniasMoya wrote that the dogecoin bubble should have “popped by now, but institutional interest is trying to take advantage of this momentum and that could support another push higher.”Many skeptics warn that dogecoin could leave a lot of newbie investors hemorrhaging losses if they wade into the asset imprudently.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":393,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102841305,"gmtCreate":1620199143107,"gmtModify":1704340088378,"author":{"id":"3562323522882055","authorId":"3562323522882055","name":"Psi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5487674b6e3f42f2c607f2eda9f34dbc","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3562323522882055","authorIdStr":"3562323522882055"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102841305","repostId":"2133542329","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2133542329","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"T-Reuters","id":"1086160438","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a113a995fbbc262262d15a5ce37e7bc5"},"pubTimestamp":1620198959,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2133542329?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-05 15:15","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Novo Nordisk CEO Says We Can See That Growth Is Coming Back In Obesity","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2133542329","media":"T-Reuters","summary":"Novo Nordisk NOVOB.CO Chief Executive Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen on media conference call:Ceo Says Un","content":"
Novo Nordisk NOVOB.CO Chief Executive Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen on media conference call:Ceo Says Underlying, A Very Good Start To The Year For Novo Nordisk.Ceo Says We Have Improved Our Share In Diabetes Value Market To 29.3%.Ceo Says As The United States Is Gradually Coming Out Of Lockdown, We'Re Optimistic On Staying On A Positive Trajectory For Rybelsus.Ceo Says We Can See That Growth Is Coming Back In Obesity.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The figures were partly distorted by the low base a year ago when the economy was in lockdown, but the quarter-on-quarter expansion, a better reflection of growth momentum, also outperformed.
\n
The latest data show an export sector that’s booming but consumption that remains subdued. While export demand is set to remain strong, “the revival of tourism-related activities will likely be slow in view of the still austere pandemic situation in many places around the world,” it said.
\n
“Gradual relaxation of social distancing bodes well for domestic activities,” said Raymond Yeung, chief economist for Greater China at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. “What’s concerning is the relatively slow vaccination rate and the variant of virus strain. Sweeney said he was not.“So you don’t have any idea how what you are asking for would impact any of the developers who engage in those other categories of apps, is that right?” Gonzalez Rogers asked.\"I personally do not,\" Sweeney said.At another point, Sweeney said users faced \"friction\" in making purchases in the \"Fortnite\" game outside of native applications.Gonzalez Rogers asked Sweeney whether the company's desire to be free of Apple's in-app purchase requirements meant that it wanted the \"Fortnite\" user base, which includes many younger users, to have access to \"what I would call, as a parent, an impulse purchase.\"\"What you are really asking for is the ability to have impulse purchases,\" she said to Sweeney through layers of plexiglass separating the witness booth from the bench.\"Yes,\" Sweeny replied, \"customer convenience is a huge factor in this.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102841728,"gmtCreate":1620199367664,"gmtModify":1704340090342,"author":{"id":"3562323522882055","authorId":"3562323522882055","name":"Psi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5487674b6e3f42f2c607f2eda9f34dbc","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3562323522882055","idStr":"3562323522882055"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice!","listText":"Nice!","text":"Nice!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102841728","repostId":"1115203133","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1115203133","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620178775,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1115203133?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-05 09:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why is dogecoin’s price spiking?
\n
Beyond mattresses and sofas, the company supplies the auto and aerospace industries, furniture manufacturers, and flooring and textile businesses with products that are in some fashion closely related to its core components, such as mechanical and lumbar support for seats; steel mechanisms and motion hardware for chairs; and synthetic fabrics for ground stabilization, drainage protection, erosion, and weed control.
\n
Yet like Genuine Parts, Leggett & Platt is also a longtime dividend payer, and it notes that maintaining its inclusion in the list of Dividend Aristocrat stocks, or those companies that have increased their shareholder payout for 25 consecutive years or more, is a high priority for the company.
\n
The dividend actually ranks second on its list of priorities after investing in organic growth, and with 49 straight years of dividend hikes, Leggett & Platt is poised to become a Dividend King, or a company with 50 or more years of raising its payout (a much smaller elite group of stocks, of which Genuine Parts is also a member).
\n
Because it is a conservatively run business in a fairly conservative industry, there's little reason why it shouldn't be able to keep going as it has for many years to come, and that's why Leggett & Platt will remain in my portfolio forever.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It rarely extends far outside those operations, which account for half of its annual revenue, and when it does it tends to be in closely related fields.\nBeyond mattresses and sofas, the company supplies the auto and aerospace industries, furniture manufacturers, and flooring and textile businesses with products that are in some fashion closely related to its core components, such as mechanical and lumbar support for seats; steel mechanisms and motion hardware for chairs; and synthetic fabrics for ground stabilization, drainage protection, erosion, and weed control.\nYet like Genuine Parts, Leggett & Platt is also a longtime dividend payer, and it notes that maintaining its inclusion in the list of Dividend Aristocrat stocks, or those companies that have increased their shareholder payout for 25 consecutive years or more, is a high priority for the company.\nThe dividend actually ranks second on its list of priorities after investing in organic growth, and with 49 straight years of dividend hikes, Leggett & Platt is poised to become a Dividend King, or a company with 50 or more years of raising its payout (a much smaller elite group of stocks, of which Genuine Parts is also a member).\nBecause it is a conservatively run business in a fairly conservative industry, there's little reason why it shouldn't be able to keep going as it has for many years to come, and that's why Leggett & Platt will remain in my portfolio forever.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":553,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102875617,"gmtCreate":1620201223539,"gmtModify":1704340108440,"author":{"id":"3562323522882055","authorId":"3562323522882055","name":"Psi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5487674b6e3f42f2c607f2eda9f34dbc","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3562323522882055","idStr":"3562323522882055"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102875617","repostId":"1106669817","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1106669817","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620186328,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1106669817?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-05 11:45","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Amazon and Alphabet may need to split their high-priced stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1106669817","media":"CNN","summary":"New York Amazon and Google owner Alphabet are two of the most valuable companies on the planet.

Some of the questions that came up in Saturday's livestream dealt with moves Berkshire made during the early stages of the pandemic last year -- including what led the company to exit most of its banking positions while loading up onBank of America(NYSE:BAC). After months of speculation, Buffett gave a little bit of insight into what drove his decision making.\nToo much exposure\nPrior to the pandemic, Berkshire owned a slate of bank stocks, and Buffett seemed to have a bullish stance toward the sector. However, as stay-at-home orders and economic shutdowns spread across the country and banks braced for heavy loan losses, Buffett seemed to do a 180 and exited many of his holdings.\nBerkshire eliminated its stake in investment bankGoldman Sachs and eventuallyJPMorgan Chase, America's largest bank by assets. Berkshire also sold its position in regional banks likePNC Financial Services Group andM&T Bank. And Buffett appears to be looking for an exit on former favoriteWells Fargo, selling shares gradually for the past several quarters.\nWhile all of this was going on, Buffett and Berkshire pumped more than $2 billion of stock into Bank of America and increased the company's stake to 11.9% of outstanding shares, a move that required special regulatory approval.\n\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nWhile we don't yet know what moves Buffett has made in 2021, he doesn't appear to have done much, since the cost basis of Berkshire's bank, insurance, and finance stocks after the first quarter was just slightly higher than it was at the end of 2020.\nDuring the Q&A part of Berkshire's shareholder meeting, Buffett was asked why he had sold most of his bank stocks last year.\n\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten,\" Buffett said. \"We overall didn't want as much in banks as we had.\"\nThe Oracle of Omaha added: \"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago. It's up to us take care of ourselves.\"\nWhat to make of this\nBuffett is one of the greatest investing minds of all time, if not No. But it really is difficult for me to understand all these moves.\nGoldman Sachs is not very loan-heavy, so it didn't really face the same degree of risk as other large banks like Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase. Investment banks also tend to do better in periods of volatility, and Goldman is working to build up its consumerbankand asset and wealth management divisions to generate steadier revenues. Goldman's stock is nearly 40% higher than it was prior to the pandemic, and many thinkit's still trading cheap.\nBuffett's decision to load up on Bank of America and dump JPMorgan as an even bigger mystery to me. Meanwhile, the stock is up nearly 21% year to date at Tuesday's prices, and Buffett likely missed out on even more appreciation, considering he sold the bulk of his JPMorgan position in the third quarter of 2020.\nHindsight is, of course, 20/20, but the numbers are also the numbers, and Buffett missed out on huge gains on his former bank holdings that could just be getting started. However, cyclical stocks like banks and financials tend to perform better during inflation than high-growth tech stocks, which Berkshire has recently made abigger part of its portfoliothan financials.\nIs Buffett done with banking?\nBuffett has not abandoned the sector altogether. In addition, Berkshire recently confirmed that Berkshire's Vice Chairman Greg Abel isexpected to succeed Buffettas CEO when he eventually steps aside.\nBut with all that has recently happened, it does seem like it could be a while until we see Berkshire buy traditional bank stocks again.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":292,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":106222776,"gmtCreate":1620126541295,"gmtModify":1704338986488,"author":{"id":"3562323522882055","authorId":"3562323522882055","name":"Psi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5487674b6e3f42f2c607f2eda9f34dbc","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3562323522882055","idStr":"3562323522882055"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Follow","listText":"Follow","text":"Follow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/106222776","repostId":"2132511028","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2132511028","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1620117368,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2132511028?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-04 16:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"5 Stocks To Watch For May 4, 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2132511028","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:","content":"
Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:

Wall Street expects CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) to report quarterly earnings at $1.71 per share on revenue of $68.39 billion before the opening bell. Sign up here
\n
Hong Kong’s economy posted its fastest growth in more than a decade in the first quarter, though the recovery is an uneven one led mainly by exports and held back by weak consumer spending and a slow vaccine rollout.
\n
After declining for a record six quarters, gross domestic product surged 7.8% from a year earlier, advance data showed Monday, beating all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists. The figures were partly distorted by the low base a year ago when the economy was in lockdown, but the quarter-on-quarter expansion, a better reflection of growth momentum, also outperformed.
\n
The latest data show an export sector that’s booming but consumption that remains subdued. The city’s hotels and retail shops are reliant on tourism spending, especially from visitors from the mainland, and border closures have hurt those sectors. Retail sales unexpectedly slowed in March, according to a government report Tuesday.
\n
The city’s ability to reopen and fully rebound from the pandemic will depend on its vaccination rollout, with low participation so far hindering the economy’s outlook.
\n
“Having a high vaccination rate is important to have the border open between Hong Kong and China and also between Hong Kong and other foreign economies,” said Iris Pang, chief economist for Greater China at ING Bank NV. “Without the border open economic activities will only grow slowly.”
\n
Hong Kong has endured its most economically challenging two-year stretch in its history, posting unprecedented back-to-back annual contractions in 2019 and 2020 as the city grappled with waves of political unrest, fallout from the deteriorating U.S.-China relationship, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
The economy has recently showed signs of stronger recovery. Exports surged above HK$400 billion ($51.5 billion) for the first time ever in March while unemployment dropped the most since 2003 in the month, easing back from a 17-year high.
\n
Although retail sales by value gained in February for the first time since 2019, the growth rate unexpectedly slowed to 20.1% in March, according to government data released Tuesday, much lower than the 34% projected by economists. Spending has improved with the relaxation of some social distancing controls, but the near-term outlook remains challenging with tourism in the doldrums, the government said.
\n
The government will announce revised figures for first-quarter GDP as well as its latest projections for full-year growth on May 14. Sign up here\nHong Kong’s economy posted its fastest growth in more than a decade in the first quarter, though the recovery is an uneven one led mainly by exports and held back by weak consumer spending and a slow vaccine rollout.\nAfter declining for a record six quarters, gross domestic product surged 7.8% from a year earlier, advance data showed Monday, beating all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists. The figures were partly distorted by the low base a year ago when the economy was in lockdown, but the quarter-on-quarter expansion, a better reflection of growth momentum, also outperformed.\nThe latest data show an export sector that’s booming but consumption that remains subdued. The city’s hotels and retail shops are reliant on tourism spending, especially from visitors from the mainland, and border closures have hurt those sectors. Retail sales unexpectedly slowed in March, according to a government report Tuesday.\nThe city’s ability to reopen and fully rebound from the pandemic will depend on its vaccination rollout, with low participation so far hindering the economy’s outlook.\n“Having a high vaccination rate is important to have the border open between Hong Kong and China and also between Hong Kong and other foreign economies,” said Iris Pang, chief economist for Greater China at ING Bank NV. “Without the border open economic activities will only grow slowly.”\nHong Kong has endured its most economically challenging two-year stretch in its history, posting unprecedented back-to-back annual contractions in 2019 and 2020 as the city grappled with waves of political unrest, fallout from the deteriorating U.S.-China relationship, and the Covid-19 pandemic.\nThe economy has recently showed signs of stronger recovery. Exports surged above HK$400 billion ($51.5 billion) for the first time ever in March while unemployment dropped the most since 2003 in the month, easing back from a 17-year high.\nAlthough retail sales by value gained in February for the first time since 2019, the growth rate unexpectedly slowed to 20.1% in March, according to government data released Tuesday, much lower than the 34% projected by economists. Spending has improved with the relaxation of some social distancing controls, but the near-term outlook remains challenging with tourism in the doldrums, the government said.\nThe government will announce revised figures for first-quarter GDP as well as its latest projections for full-year growth on May 14. Financial Secretary Paul Chan has previously estimated the economy will expand 3.5% to 5.5% in 2021, but that’s likely to be revised higher now, given the strong growth data.\nCitigroup Inc. raised its full-year growth forecast by 2 percentage points to 6%, while Goldman Sachs Group Inc. economists upgraded theirs to 9.2% from 4.6%.\nStill, economic activity remains below pre-recession levels as the pandemic and social distancing measures continue to weigh on consumer spending and tourism, the government said in its report Monday. While export demand is set to remain strong, “the revival of tourism-related activities will likely be slow in view of the still austere pandemic situation in many places around the world,” it said.\n“Gradual relaxation of social distancing bodes well for domestic activities,” said Raymond Yeung, chief economist for Greater China at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. “What’s concerning is the relatively slow vaccination rate and the variant of virus strain.
