2024","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2159922112","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"After gradual relaxation of issuing requirements, no Mastercard credit and debit cards will have mag","content":"
After gradual relaxation of issuing requirements, no Mastercard credit and debit cards will have mag stripes by 2033
\n
The practice of swiping could soon be limited to thieves and online daters as Mastercard Inc. prepares a phaseout of the magnetic stripes that enable people to swipe their credit and debit cards.
\n
Though magnetic stripes have been a fixture of payment cards for decades, the industry has pushed requirements in recent years that have shifted more payments over to safer chip-based technology, such that 86% of face-to-face card transactions globally now take place with EMV chips, according to a Mastercard $(MA)$ blog post. As such, the company plans to to gradually do away with magnetic stripes altogether and will no longer require them on its cards beginning in 2024 in most markets.
\n
Europe will be in the first wave of regions impacted by the relaxed requirement, as chip technology is \"already widely used\" there. U.S. bank issuers will no longer have to include magnetic stripes starting in 2027, per the Thursday post.
\n
By 2029, no new Mastercard credit and debit cards will be issued with magnetic stripes, meaning that by 2033, there will be no such Mastercards in the market with that technology.
\n
Though swipe technology has been supplanted by chip technology, the magnetic stripe once offered crucial benefits to the card industry. In the beginning days of cards, store clerks would have to write out a cardholder's information by hand and use flatbed imprinting machines to transfer the information to carbon paper packets, the Mastercard blog noted. Card companies would issue a monthly list of bad account numbers and merchants would have to reference their own shopper records against that list to make sure that the purchases were legitimate.
\n
The invention of the mag stripe is largely attributed to IBM, Mastercard continued, and the technology enabled banks to encode card information onto magnetic tape on the back of cards. This spurred greater card acceptance and made it easier to quickly authorize transactions.
\n
EMV cards offer greater improvements, however, in that they feature microprocessors that help better secure a cardholder's information. Many have small antennae that allow for contactless transactions, which have grown more popular during the pandemic given consumer wariness about passing cards to other parties.
\n
Mastercard saw 1 billion more contactless transactions in the first quarter than it did in the same period a year prior. chip shortage hurt new-vehicle supplies, but it didn't hurt demand.","content":"
Auto investors had a pleasant surprise when Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) reported its second-quarter earnings on July 29: a nice profit. While the effects of the global semiconductor shortage had Wall Street expecting a loss of about $0.10 per share, Ford instead managed a tidy profit of almost $600 million, or $0.13 per share.
\n
How did Ford beat estimates by that much? In this Motley Fool Live video, recorded on Aug. 5, Industry Focus host Nick Sciple and Motley Fool senior auto specialist John Rosevear dug into the details and found that the answer had a lot to do with supply and demand.
\n
A transcript is below the video.
\n
Nick Sciple: Maybe we can move on to Ford earnings. John, one of the other things you wanted to talk about today as we've seen, big auto across-the-board report earnings over the past week and a half, two weeks, we'll talk about General Motors, we'll talk about Ford, BMW, maybe some others. But let's start here with Ford had a pretty positive response to earnings back in late July. It's traded down a little bit since then, what were the big themes to pull out from Ford's earnings report?
\n
John Rosevear: Well, I mean, people were expecting a not so good quarter because Ford has been, and let's back up to refresh our memory there's an ongoing global shortage of semiconductors, computer chips, particularly the simpler, older style computer chips that autos are full of that control little things. This is not the latest cutting-edge silicon in a new iPhone. This is older technology stuff that is still very useful that automakers like because it's rugged and proven and they know it'll last 10-15 years in a car which has a harsh environment. There's been a shortage of that kind of computer chip, and it has really disrupted production for a lot of automakers. Ford has been hit harder than some. They've had to cut a lot of production which is really unfortunate given that they have a brand-new version of their F-150 pickup, that would be in very high demand if they can build them that fast, and so forth. Wall Street was expecting a not-very-good quarter, perhaps even a loss. Ford came in with a profit on an adjusted EBIT basis, which is what we all watch. They made a profit of $1.1 billion versus a loss of $1.9 billion in the second quarter of 2021. Of course, a lot of the factories that, that shutdown from COVID, their margins were not quite as high as we'd like and so forth. But it was a respectable quarter and it was again better than Wall Street expected and the story there is that, yeah, we're not selling as many cars and trucks as we want, but that's true of everybody. There's a shortage, there's very high consumer demand. We're not offering very much in the way of incentives, we're getting full price for these, and that is doing great things for our margins.
\n
Sciple: Yeah, John. This reminds me, I tweeted something out about this a few weeks ago. I went with my then fiance, now wife, we have since been married, to go get some repairs done on her car. We were in the Honda dealership, and all across the dealership, they had in these little plastic display things, articles from like Car and Driver and things like that talking about, \"There is this big car shortage,\" and the translation is, \"Listen, we got the cars that we have, we're going to sell them to you for the price that we name, and if you don't want it, good luck finding another one.\" It sounds like that's some of what you were describing here, John. It is, \"Listen, the cars that are out there, people are going to have to pay what they have to pay.\"
\n
Rosevear: Ford is actually, I think this is a temporary situation because of the chip shortage, but they've actually lost pickup truck market share because GM has been able, for whatever reasons with its suppliers, to build somewhat more pickups and get them out there. But everybody is selling cars, trucks, SUVs at full boat prices if not market prices, because I know some of the dealers are doing well off this, the automakers hate that, but [laughs] dealers are independent businesses, they can price things the way they want. While the effects of the global semiconductor shortage had Wall Street expecting a loss of about $0.10 per share, Ford instead managed a tidy profit of almost $600 million, or $0.13 per share.\nHow did Ford beat estimates by that much? In this Motley Fool Live video, recorded on Aug. 5, Industry Focus host Nick Sciple and Motley Fool senior auto specialist John Rosevear dug into the details and found that the answer had a lot to do with supply and demand.\nA transcript is below the video.\nNick Sciple: Maybe we can move on to Ford earnings. It's traded down a little bit since then, what were the big themes to pull out from Ford's earnings report?\nJohn Rosevear: Well, I mean, people were expecting a not so good quarter because Ford has been, and let's back up to refresh our memory there's an ongoing global shortage of semiconductors, computer chips, particularly the simpler, older style computer chips that autos are full of that control little things. We're not offering very much in the way of incentives, we're getting full price for these, and that is doing great things for our margins.\nSciple: Yeah, John. It is, \"Listen, the cars that are out there, people are going to have to pay what they have to pay.\"\nRosevear: Ford is actually, I think this is a temporary situation because of the chip shortage, but they've actually lost pickup truck market share because GM has been able, for whatever reasons with its suppliers, to build somewhat more pickups and get them out there. But everybody is selling cars, trucks, SUVs at full boat prices if not market prices, because I know some of the dealers are doing well off this, the automakers hate that, but [laughs] dealers are independent businesses, they can price things the way they want. But where the automakers are saving money is they don't have to do the incentives. There are still incentives out there for a few things, but they're nothing like what we would expect to see in normal times, even normal growth economy times, and that is putting a lot of points on margin.\nSciple: Yeah. When demand is very strong relative to supply, you don't have to do a lot to sell what you have out there.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":30,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9017497633,"gmtCreate":1649805229290,"gmtModify":1676534577820,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$中国尚舜化工(QES.SI)$gg","listText":"$中国尚舜化工(QES.SI)$gg","text":"$中国尚舜化工(QES.SI)$gg","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/eb020f751cf3c80125f6b5ed5121f9f3","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9017497633","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9016269021,"gmtCreate":1649201795513,"gmtModify":1676534467839,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$小米集团-W(01810)$wah","listText":"$小米集团-W(01810)$wah","text":"$小米集团-W(01810)$wah","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/f4678201ced9fc94dc7f318ec7c69118","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9016269021","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":67,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9018691615,"gmtCreate":1649030710547,"gmtModify":1676534437874,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$三倍做多FTSE中国ETF-Direxion(YINN)$wow","listText":"$三倍做多FTSE中国ETF-Direxion(YINN)$wow","text":"$三倍做多FTSE中国ETF-Direxion(YINN)$wow","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fb672f0a23ad927eb3cbd8fb2a581d7f","width":"1080","height":"3087"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9018691615","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":37,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":839924485,"gmtCreate":1629118503347,"gmtModify":1676529935892,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Really?","listText":"Really?","text":"Really?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/839924485","repostId":"2159863223","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2159863223","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1629117060,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2159863223?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-16 20:31","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Popular Robinhood Dividend Stocks You Can Buy Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2159863223","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"There are good reasons why Robinhood investors like these stocks so much.","content":"
Popular Robinhood stocks and dividends might seem to go together like orange juice and toothpaste. Bank of America isn't a stodgy bank stock, though. Its shares have soared nearly 60% over the last 12 months and are up close to 40% so far this year.
\n
The company offers a solid dividend that currently yields around 2%. Although BofA didn't increase its dividend in 2020 because of the effects of COVID-19, it has boosted the dividend payout by an impressive 180% over the last five years.
\n
Some investors might be worried that Bank of America missed revenue estimates in the second quarter of 2021. This rare miss was due primarily to lower-than-expected trading revenue in the company's investment banking unit. The good news is that BofA's core banking business performed quite well.
\n
Bank of America should benefit as the global economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The company's investments in technology differentiate BofA from its peers. Robinhood investors like this bank stock for a good reason.
\n
Johnson & Johnson
\n
No other stock on Robinhood's 100 most popular list comes with the dividend pedigree of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ). The healthcare giant is a Dividend King -- an elite group of S&P 500 stocks that have increased their dividends for at least 50 consecutive years. J&J's streak of dividend hikes stands at 59 years in a row. Its dividend yields north of 2.4%.
\n
Johnson & Johnson provides stability that's nearly unmatched. The company's diversification across healthcare certainly helps. J&J is a leader in consumer health, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. It has 28 different platforms or products that generated more than $1 billion in sales last year. Roughly 70% of its total revenue comes from products that are either No. 1 or No. 2 based on global market share.
\n
To be sure, Johnson & Johnson faces some challenges. The company has been embroiled in high-profile litigation on multiple fronts. Sales are falling for its former top-selling drug, Remicade, due to biosimilar competition.
\n
However, J&J has survived and thrived through more difficult times over the last 135 years. Its overall business continues to deliver solid growth. There are few dividend stocks -- including those that aren't widely held by Robinhood investors -- that are better choices to buy and hold over the long term than Johnson & Johnson.
\n
Pfizer
\n
Johnson & Johnson isn't the only big pharma stock that Robinhood investors like. Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) is even more popular, currently ranking No. 14 on the trading platform's top 100 stocks list.
\n
Although Pfizer isn't a member of dividend royalty like J&J is, the company offers an attractive dividend yield of 3.3%. That yield topped 4% throughout the first several months of 2020. However, Pfizer's shares have soared over 30% year to date, causing its dividend yield to decline.
\n
You can probably guess why Pfizer stock has performed so well. The company's COVID-19 vaccine has become a massive commercial success. Pfizer expects the vaccine will generate sales of $33.5 billion this year, with its partner BioNTech receiving half of the profits. That total will make the vaccine the biggest-selling drug or vaccine in the world.
\n
There are some uncertainties about how long the COVID-19 vaccine gravy train will last. Some key patents for several of Pfizer's drugs also expire later this decade. However, Pfizer has other drugs that should generate strong growth. It also has a huge and growing cash stockpile that it could (and probably will) use to make acquisitions.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Popular Robinhood Dividend Stocks You Can Buy Right Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Popular Robinhood Dividend Stocks You Can Buy Right Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-16 20:31 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Popular Robinhood stocks and dividends might seem to go together like orange juice and toothpaste. Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) is even more popular, currently ranking No. 14 on the trading platform's top 100 stocks list.\nAlthough Pfizer isn't a member of dividend royalty like J&J is, the company offers an attractive dividend yield of 3.3%. That yield topped 4% throughout the first several months of 2020. However, Pfizer's shares have soared over 30% year to date, causing its dividend yield to decline.\nYou can probably guess why Pfizer stock has performed so well. The company's COVID-19 vaccine has become a massive commercial success. Pfizer expects the vaccine will generate sales of $33.5 billion this year, with its partner BioNTech receiving half of the profits. That total will make the vaccine the biggest-selling drug or vaccine in the world.\nThere are some uncertainties about how long the COVID-19 vaccine gravy train will last. Some key patents for several of Pfizer's drugs also expire later this decade. However, Pfizer has other drugs that should generate strong growth. It also has a huge and growing cash stockpile that it could (and probably will) use to make acquisitions.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":33,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":894760717,"gmtCreate":1628857876839,"gmtModify":1676529876488,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/894760717","repostId":"2159292142","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2159292142","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1628857524,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2159292142?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-13 20:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Mister Car Wash Q2 Earnings Smashes Estimates; Provides FY21 Guidance","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2159292142","media":"Benzinga","summary":"\n","content":"
\n
Mister Car Wash Inc (NYSE:MCW) reported second-quarter FY21 sales growth of 93.4% year-on-year, to $197.08 million, beating the analyst consensus of $193.20 million.
\n
Comparable stores sales rose 93% versus last year. It also said that it would not try to monetize games directly, using them instead to drive overall subscription growth and retention. Games will be included at no extra cost in all of Netflix's subscription packages.
\n
While it may seem like Netflix is arriving late to the gaming arena, there are still at least three reasons to believe the streaming giant could succeed in this new category.
\n
1. Netflix has a huge platform
\n
Netflix's customer reach alone gives it the opportunity to be a powerhouse in gaming. The company has more than 200 million paying subscribers around the world, and many of its customers spend hours a day on the platform. While Netflix users come to the service to watch TV and movies, the company knows that ultimately its customers are looking for entertainment. Management considers its competition to range from Alphabet's YouTube to social media platforms like ByteDance's TikTok to video games, in addition to other streaming services and linear TV.
\n
Additionally, launching mobile gaming makes sense. It won't require any additional hardware; the interactivity is built into the devices; and most Netflix users already have the app loaded onto their devices. According to Apptopia, Netflix was the 10th-most downloaded app in the world in 2020, with 223 million downloads, and it was the only one in the top 10 that doesn't provide a free service. It's a good bet that many of the subscribers who come to Netflix for shows and movies would be happy to try out games on the platform as well.
\n
With a global brand and a giant built-in audience, Netflix should also be a highly appealing partner for game developers. Chief product officer Greg Peters said as much on the Q2 earnings call, arguing that because Netflix wouldn't be concerned with monetization tactics like advertising or in-app purchases, it would be more attractive to developers: \"So we're finding that many game developers really like that concept and that focus and this idea of being able to put all of their creative energy into just great gameplay, and not having to worry about those other considerations that they have typically had to trade off with, just making compelling games.\"
\n
2. There's crossover potential with its intellectual property
\n
There's no shortage of intellectual property (IP) in Hollywood that has become video games or, in turn, video games that have become movies. Among games that have become hit movies are Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Sonic the Hedgehog, while there are plenty of success stories in the other direction like Goldeneye 007, Mad Max, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
\n
Netflix has historically lacked the kind of monetization machine that Walt Disney has. When Disney makes a hit movie, it lives multiple lives as theme-park rides, toys, and live events like musical theater or Ice Capades -- and as games, which it generally licenses to developers.
\n
It's easy to imagine some of Netflix's hit shows like Narcos, Ozark, or Stranger Things translating into games. A show like Queen's Gambit, for example, could have easily lent itself to a themed chess game based on the show.
\n
There's also the potential for Netflix's gaming IP to move in the other direction. If the company launches a hit mobile game, the infrastructure to make those characters into a show or a movie is readily available. Peters acknowledged that this was part of the strategy on the call: \"Part of that will be games that extend our IP. We think that's a really rich, rich space, so that's very much part of our long-term thesis.\"
\n
Netflix is also planning to do stand-alone games. Overall, the complementarity between games and video entertainment is powerful, especially for a platform with so many paying subscribers.
\n
3. Netflix has a great track record
\n
Netflix doesn't move into new businesses thoughtlessly. Over its history, the company has been incredibly disciplined, making two large leaps -- from DVDs to streaming, and then from licensing content to producing original shows and movies. Though its brief attempt to separate the DVD business under the brand Qwikster was a failure, Netflix is not a company that blindly enters new experiments, and it understands its core competencies well.
\n
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos mostly dismissed the idea of getting into sports again, saying on the call: \"Our fundamental product is on-demand and advertising-free, and sports tends to be live and packed with advertising. So there's not a lot of natural synergies in that way, except for it happens in television.\"
\n
Co-CEO Reed Hastings also said that video gaming was something the company had discussed for years, and decided on going forward with because it shares a lot of qualities with video entertainment: \"You're going to have these long franchises and very positive for us, kind of industry-structure-wise, if we can master the skill set.\"
\n
While video games aren't a slam dunk for Netflix and will likely take years to come to fruition, the new direction also shows that the streaming champ is looking for new opportunities as its growth rate in streaming slows.
\n
With more than 200 million subscribers and one of the best-known brands in entertainment, it would be a mistake to count out Netflix in video games.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons Netflix Could Succeed in Video Games
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons Netflix Could Succeed in Video Games\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-24 08:46 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
For more than 20 years, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) has provided its customers with access to television shows and movies, first on DVDs and now through streaming.\nThe company has always been disciplined ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NFLX":"奈飞"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/07/23/3-reasons-netflix-could-succeed-in-video-games/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2153829859","content_text":"For more than 20 years, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) has provided its customers with access to television shows and movies, first on DVDs and now through streaming.\nThe company has always been disciplined with its approach. Chief product officer Greg Peters said as much on the Q2 earnings call, arguing that because Netflix wouldn't be concerned with monetization tactics like advertising or in-app purchases, it would be more attractive to developers: \"So we're finding that many game developers really like that concept and that focus and this idea of being able to put all of their creative energy into just great gameplay, and not having to worry about those other considerations that they have typically had to trade off with, just making compelling games.\"\n2. There's crossover potential with its intellectual property\nThere's no shortage of intellectual property (IP) in Hollywood that has become video games or, in turn, video games that have become movies. Among games that have become hit movies are Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Sonic the Hedgehog, while there are plenty of success stories in the other direction like Goldeneye 007, Mad Max, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.\nNetflix has historically lacked the kind of monetization machine that Walt Disney has. When Disney makes a hit movie, it lives multiple lives as theme-park rides, toys, and live events like musical theater or Ice Capades -- and as games, which it generally licenses to developers.\nIt's easy to imagine some of Netflix's hit shows like Narcos, Ozark, or Stranger Things translating into games. A show like Queen's Gambit, for example, could have easily lent itself to a themed chess game based on the show.\nThere's also the potential for Netflix's gaming IP to move in the other direction. If the company launches a hit mobile game, the infrastructure to make those characters into a show or a movie is readily available. Peters acknowledged that this was part of the strategy on the call: \"Part of that will be games that extend our IP. We think that's a really rich, rich space, so that's very much part of our long-term thesis.\"\nNetflix is also planning to do stand-alone games. Overall, the complementarity between games and video entertainment is powerful, especially for a platform with so many paying subscribers.\n3. Netflix has a great track record\nNetflix doesn't move into new businesses thoughtlessly. Over its history, the company has been incredibly disciplined, making two large leaps -- from DVDs to streaming, and then from licensing content to producing original shows and movies. Though its brief attempt to separate the DVD business under the brand Qwikster was a failure, Netflix is not a company that blindly enters new experiments, and it understands its core competencies well.\nCo-CEO Ted Sarandos mostly dismissed the idea of getting into sports again, saying on the call: \"Our fundamental product is on-demand and advertising-free, and sports tends to be live and packed with advertising. So there's not a lot of natural synergies in that way, except for it happens in television.\"\nCo-CEO Reed Hastings also said that video gaming was something the company had discussed for years, and decided on going forward with because it shares a lot of qualities with video entertainment: \"You're going to have these long franchises and very positive for us, kind of industry-structure-wise, if we can master the skill set.\"\nWhile video games aren't a slam dunk for Netflix and will likely take years to come to fruition, the new direction also shows that the streaming champ is looking for new opportunities as its growth rate in streaming slows.\nWith more than 200 million subscribers and one of the best-known brands in entertainment, it would be a mistake to count out Netflix in video games.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":124,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174555977,"gmtCreate":1627115513899,"gmtModify":1703484496200,"author":{"id":"3564626043064310","authorId":"3564626043064310","name":"ahlai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9793982b5a1286b7c7b89debc6c9a93","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564626043064310","authorIdStr":"3564626043064310"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Earnings are important","listText":"Earnings are important","text":"Earnings are important","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/174555977","repostId":"1191636755","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1191636755","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627084309,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191636755?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-24 07:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Earnings Are Coming. Figuring out if the stock will go up or down, however, shouldn’t be all that difficult.
\n
The EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday,July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.
\n
There are plenty of factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings—the global semiconductor shortage, vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.
\n

\n
Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.
\n
The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.
\n
After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.
\n
There is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.
\n
Investors will also want to know when Tesla’s new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Tesla’s Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Tesla’s driver-assistance functions—the company recently started selling its driver-assistance software as a subscription—and how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its charging network to other EVs down the road.
\n
All those topics and more should come up on the earningsconference callscheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
