data including a drop in weekly claims for U.S. unemployment benefits.

With one trading day left, the S&P 500 was set to end the year more than 27% higher, with the Nasdaq up about 23% and the Dow's annual rise just shy of 20%. Each of Wall Street's main indexes was poised for its sharpest three-year surge since 1997-99.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 90.55 points, or 0.25%, to 36,398.08, the S&P 500 lost 14.33 points, or 0.30%, to 4,778.73 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 24.65 points, or 0.16%, to 15,741.56.

Four of the 11 major S&P 500 sector indexes traded higher, led by the real estate sector.

Investors cheered a U.S. Labor Department report that the number of Americans filing for new unemployment claims dropped to a seasonally adjusted 198,000 in the week leading up to Christmas, from a revised 206,000 a week earlier. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast weekly applications would rise to 208,000.

In other strong U.S. data, the Chicago purchasing managers' index (PMI) delivered a print of 63.1, a monthly increase of 1.3 points and 1.1 points above consensus.

A PMI number over 50 signifies expanded activity over the previous month.

Equities have rallied recently on some of the thinnest trading volumes that U.S. stock exchanges have seen due to the holidays. Investors were encouraged by growing evidence that the Omicron variant causes less-severe infections of COVID-19 than the Delta strain.

On Wednesday, top U.S. infectious disease adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said the surge in cases of the Omicron variant should peak by the end of January.

"The strong manufacturer data out of Chicago and an impressive initial jobless claims continue to show an economy that is quite healthy, omits the continued worries obviously over the Omicron variants,” said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Detrick cautioned that low holiday season trading volume could exaggerate price moves.

Stock markets have been in a seasonally strong "Santa Claus Rally" that typically occurs in the last five trading days of the year and the first two of the new year.

Among individual stocks, Biogen Inc slipped 7.09%, giving back gains from the prior session as Samsung BioLogics denied a media report that said the South Korean firm was in talks to buy the U.S. drugmaker.

Walt Disney Co stock saw over 20% losses year-to-date while the overall Dow Jones stock index is on track for a 19% gain for the year.

In 2022, investors will shift their attention to expected U.S. interest rate hikes and midterm elections for U.S. Congress, where President Joe Biden's Democrats now hold a slim majority.

“Midterm years tend to be the most volatile out of the four-year cycle. There's actually a 17% average peak to trunk correction during a midterm year, which is the largest of the four years.” Detrick added, “Investors were pretty spoiled this year. So be aware that next year won’t be as easy.”

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 8.08 billion shares, compared with the 10.83 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.

Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.26-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.47-to-1 ratio favored advancers.

The S&P 500 posted 64 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 70 new highs and 141 new lows.

","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Wall Street Closes Down, Indexes Still Poised for Big Annual Gains
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWall Street Closes Down, Indexes Still Poised for Big Annual Gains\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-31 05:22 GMT+8 Reuters\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Dec 30 (Reuters) - Wall Street closed lower on Thursday, retreating late in thin holiday volume from record highs set early in the session on strong U.S. data including a drop in weekly claims for U.S...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BK4533":"AQR资本管理(全球第二大对冲基金)",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite","BIIB":"渤健公司","BK4532":"文艺复兴科技持仓",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index",".DJI":"道琼斯","COMP":"Compass, Inc.","BK4139":"生物科技"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-stocks-wall-street-closes-212202964.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2195928314","content_text":"Dec 30 (Reuters) - Wall Street closed lower on Thursday, retreating late in thin holiday volume from record highs set early in the session on strong U.S. data including a drop in weekly claims for U.S. unemployment benefits. With one trading day left, the S&P 500 was set to end the year more than 27% higher, with the Nasdaq up about 23% and the Dow's annual rise just shy of 20%. Investors were encouraged by growing evidence that the Omicron variant causes less-severe infections of COVID-19 than the Delta strain. On Wednesday, top U.S. infectious disease adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said the surge in cases of the Omicron variant should peak by the end of January.\"The strong manufacturer data out of Chicago and an impressive initial jobless claims continue to show an economy that is quite healthy, omits the continued worries obviously over the Omicron variants,” said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina.Detrick cautioned that low holiday season trading volume could exaggerate price moves.Stock markets have been in a seasonally strong \"Santa Claus Rally\" that typically occurs in the last five trading days of the year and the first two of the new year.Among individual stocks, Biogen Inc slipped 7.09%, giving back gains from the prior session as Samsung BioLogics denied a media report that said the South Korean firm was in talks to buy the U.S. drugmaker.Walt Disney Co stock saw over 20% losses year-to-date while the overall Dow Jones stock index is on track for a 19% gain for the year.In 2022, investors will shift their attention to expected U.S. interest rate hikes and midterm elections for U.S. Congress, where President Joe Biden's Democrats now hold a slim majority.“Midterm years tend to be the most volatile out of the four-year cycle. There's actually a 17% average peak to trunk correction during a midterm year, which is the largest of the four years.” Detrick added, “Investors were pretty spoiled this year. So be aware that next year won’t be as easy.”Volume on U.S. exchanges was 8.08 billion shares, compared with the 10.83 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.26-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.47-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted 64 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 70 new highs and 141 new lows.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":494,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9011718204,"gmtCreate":1648937640056,"gmtModify":1676534422864,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Nanofilm(MZH.SI)$Almost there ","listText":"$Nanofilm(MZH.SI)$Almost there ","text":"$Nanofilm(MZH.SI)$Almost there","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1cfe2a0a0f8b038188fb8f53a8ce932c","width":"1125","height":"3057"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9011718204","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":564,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9096459108,"gmtCreate":1644452363135,"gmtModify":1676533927728,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9096459108","repostId":"1147985129","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1147985129","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1644451868,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1147985129?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-10 08:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Continued Strength Anticipated For Singapore Stock Market","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1147985129","media":"RTTNews","summary":"The Singapore stock market has moved higher in five straight sessions, soaring more than 170 points ","content":"

The Singapore stock market has moved higher in five straight sessions, soaring more than 170 points or 5.3 percent along the way. This led to a surge in Micron's stock following its quarterly report, as the company indicated that there's a healthy demand for memory chips from several verticals, and vanquished any concerns about a memory supply glut.

The health of the memory market will be a major green flag for Micron in 2022. Let's see why.

Robust memory demand will be a tailwind for Micron Technology in 2022

Micron expects DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) bit demand to increase in the mid- to high teens next year. Meanwhile, NAND (short for "not and") flash memory demand is expected to accelerate 30% in 2022. Micron anticipates the long-term bit demand for DRAM and NAND flash memory to increase at a pace that would be identical to 2022.

Micron is counting on robust memory demand to help it deliver record revenue and solid profitability in the current fiscal year. The company points out that memory demand remains strong across all its end markets. For instance, in personal computers (PCs) and graphics, Micron believes that inventory adjustments at most customers are already done. As a result, Micron sees stable demand for memory chips from the PC market in 2022.

Micron management anticipates PC sales in 2022 to remain consistent with 2021 levels and adds that more PCs are now using low-power DRAM. More specifically, low-power DRAM accounts for 20% of the PC industry's DRAM bit demand at present, and that number is expected to head higher in 2022 and beyond.

On the other hand, more and more PCs are now turning to solid-state drives (SSDs) for faster storage. Around 100 million SSDs were shipped in the first quarter of 2021 as compared to 64 million hard-disk drives (HDDs). Technavio estimates that global SSD sales will continue to increase in the long run, clocking an annual growth rate of 23.6% through 2025. Given that Micron's latest generation of client SSDs have been qualified for use by several PC original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and are already in volume production, it looks well-placed to capitalize on growing SSD demand.

Given that 5G smartphones are using 50% more DRAM and double the NAND flash content as compared to 4G smartphones, and their shipments are expected to increase 40% in 2022, it's easy to see why Micron expects a healthy demand environment to prevail in 2022. Additionally, the increasing adoption of SSDs in data centers is another tailwind for the memory market. Micron's data center revenue was up 70% year over year in the fiscal first quarter, and the company sees further growth in this segment as data centers deploy more SSDs instead of hard-disk drives.

So, rising memory demand will be Micron's biggest growth driver in 2022. However, there's one red flag that investors should keep an eye on, as it could derail Micron's terrific rally.

The red flag investors wouldn't want to miss

While strong memory demand could be a green flag for Micron in 2022, industry watchers are wary that oversupply could send the market into a tailspin in the second half of the year. Gartner is one of the research companies anticipating a memory oversupply in the second half of 2022, thanks to higher supply and weakening demand, which would eventually lead to a reduction in memory prices.

Meanwhile, memory market researcher TrendForce estimates that capacity expansion by memory suppliers could lead to a 17.9% increase in DRAM bit supply in 2022. What's alarming is that DRAM demand is expected to increase 16.3%, according to TrendForce's estimates, and send the memory market from a state of shortage to one of surplus.

As a result, TrendForce forecasts that the price of DRAM could drop by between 15% and 20% in 2022. This led to a surge in Micron's stock following its quarterly report, as the company indicated that there's a healthy demand for memory chips from several verticals, and vanquished any concerns about a memory supply glut. The health of the memory market will be a major green flag for Micron in 2022. Let's see why.Image source: Getty Images.Robust memory demand will be a tailwind for Micron Technology in 2022Micron expects DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) bit demand to increase in the mid- to high teens next year. Meanwhile, NAND (short for \"not and\") flash memory demand is expected to accelerate 30% in 2022. Micron anticipates the long-term bit demand for DRAM and NAND flash memory to increase at a pace that would be identical to 2022.Micron is counting on robust memory demand to help it deliver record revenue and solid profitability in the current fiscal year. The company points out that memory demand remains strong across all its end markets. For instance, in personal computers (PCs) and graphics, Micron believes that inventory adjustments at most customers are already done. As a result, Micron sees stable demand for memory chips from the PC market in 2022.Micron management anticipates PC sales in 2022 to remain consistent with 2021 levels and adds that more PCs are now using low-power DRAM. Given that Micron's latest generation of client SSDs have been qualified for use by several PC original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and are already in volume production, it looks well-placed to capitalize on growing SSD demand.Given that 5G smartphones are using 50% more DRAM and double the NAND flash content as compared to 4G smartphones, and their shipments are expected to increase 40% in 2022, it's easy to see why Micron expects a healthy demand environment to prevail in 2022. The red flag investors wouldn't want to missWhile strong memory demand could be a green flag for Micron in 2022, industry watchers are wary that oversupply could send the market into a tailspin in the second half of the year. Gartner is one of the research companies anticipating a memory oversupply in the second half of 2022, thanks to higher supply and weakening demand, which would eventually lead to a reduction in memory prices.Meanwhile, memory market researcher TrendForce estimates that capacity expansion by memory suppliers could lead to a 17.9% increase in DRAM bit supply in 2022. What's alarming is that DRAM demand is expected to increase 16.3%, according to TrendForce's estimates, and send the memory market from a state of shortage to one of surplus. As a result, TrendForce forecasts that the price of DRAM could drop by between 15% and 20% in 2022. The DRAM industry could generate overall revenue of $90 billion in 2022, which would be identical to 2021 levels, as the potential drop in price could erase any gains arising out of an increase in shipments. This could be bad news for Micron, because 73% of its total revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2022 came from selling DRAM chips. This is a major red flag that Micron investors should keep an eye out for, as weak memory prices have historically wrecked the chipmaker's top and bottom lines. The firm's price target of $12 might even look conservative if Offerpad can turn profitable next year -- it's even possible it could revisit its highs near $20 per share -- but it operates in a tough business, and investors should proceed with cautious optimism.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":446,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9006719539,"gmtCreate":1641850651405,"gmtModify":1676533652878,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh no ","listText":"Oh no ","text":"Oh no","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9006719539","repostId":"1173383930","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1173383930","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1641828185,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1173383930?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-10 23:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nasdaq falls 2%, Dow drops 500 points as Wall Street extends rough start for 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1173383930","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stocks fell Monday morning, extending a rocky start to 2022 for equity markets as interest rate","content":"

U.S. stocks fell Monday morning, extending a rocky start to 2022 for equity markets as interest rates rise.

TheDow Jones Industrial Average dropped 518 points, or 1.4%. The ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKK) is down 38% off its all-time high and down 22% year to date.
\n
ARK and Wood invest in lots of high-growth tech stocks that have been battered this year, which is what's causing the fund's poor performance. Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN), Shopify (NYSE:SHOP), and UiPath (NYSE:PATH) are some of Cathie Wood's favorites, and all are between 20% and 50% off their all-time highs. However, the fact that millions of dollars of their stock are sitting in Wood's ETFs should be indicative of their long-term potential. These companies are trading at bargain prices today, so you might want to consider putting them on your watchlist.
\n
Coinbase: A way to invest in crypto
\n
Coinbase is ARK Invest's third-largest holding, clocking in at a market value of $1.25 billion. Shares of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange have sunk like a stone recently, falling 32% off its all-time highs. However, this isn't fully indicative of business performance.
\n
With over $255 billion in assets across 100 different countries and 72 million users, Coinbase has become a cornerstone of the crypto economy as one of the leading, most trusted cryptocurrency exchanges. The company takes a cut of every purchase of crypto on the platform, so the rise in popularity of cryptocurrency has resulted in impressive revenue success. The company's revenue increased by over 330% year over year in Q3. With this, the company has also achieved impressive profitability: Coinbase brought almost one-third of its revenue to the bottom line.
\n
While its reliance on cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) has led to amazing growth recently, it's really a double-edged sword. The company makes money only on purchases of crypto, so in large-scale crypto sell-offs, the company is left stranded. This leaves Coinbase largely vulnerable to the winds of the crypto markets.
\n
With the recent sell-off of crypto and Bitcoin, Coinbase has followed suit -- falling to a valuation of just 22 times earnings. Whether this is justified or not, Coinbase will likely mimic the crypto market, and its success largely depends on the widespread adoption of crypto. Therefore, if you think that cryptocurrencies will skyrocket over the next decade, Coinbase could be a smart investment.
\n
UiPath: An AI pureplay
\n
While not as large as Coinbase, ARK ETFs hold over $1 billion of UiPath stock -- making it the sixth-largest holding across all of Wood's funds. UiPath is disrupting the way companies operate and handle tedious, repetitive tasks by normalizing the use of artificial intelligence and bots. The company has the vision to deliver a fully automated enterprise so that workers can optimize their efficiency, and the way the company is doing this has attracted companies like AutoDesk (NASDAQ:ADSK) and NASA.
\n
While UiPath's product sounds like a pie-in-the-sky dream, the company is more than real. It has over 9,600 customers and $818 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). With such dominance, UiPath has been named a market leader in the robotic process automation (RPA) market in Gartner's Magic Quadrant. As the leader, it has gained the trust and confidence of companies that might be wary of bringing automation and robots into the workplace.
\n
UiPath has lots of potential to grow. The company sees a $30 billion addressable opportunity by 2024, which would be immense growth from its current $818 million in ARR. UiPath might get some pushback along the way from those wary of integrating robots into the workplace, but its robots can provide efficiency improvements. The company has saved its customers millions of hours and dollars without putting workers' jobs on the line. UiPath is meant to work alongside human employees, and it has been successful in doing so.
\n
Shares have fallen drastically since it came public earlier this year, and that has provided a valuation that an appealing valuation public at 60 times sales, but it now trades at 22 times sales. Cathie Wood has taken the opportunity to buy more shares this December, and you might want to consider doing the same.
\n
Shopify: The rising e-commerce pick
\n
Shopify is farther down at the 11th-largest ARK position, but still represents $950 million worth of shares -- and for good reason. The company has doubled its gross merchandise volume (GMV) over the past 16 months, reaching $400 billion in cumulative GMV on its merchants' platforms in Q3. This has been because of the company's relentless focus on its customers' growth and success. This is unrivaled by competitors like Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), which have often stifled SMBs by noticing their success and then offering and promoting a self-developed product that competes with them directly.
\n
The company recently announced a new feature that would make international sales easier for merchants. Shopify Markets would allow companies to streamline global expansion -- something many Shopify users might never have thought possible. The company also has plans to roll out additional features over the next few years, with one of my personal favorites being Shopify Fulfillment. With this, users could access the fulfillment network that Shopify is building out and let the company pack and ship orders for them.
\n
This focus on customer success is truly unique, which is why the company demands a very high premium. The company trades at roughly 40 times sales, which is the highest valuation out of these three stocks. However, I also believe that Shopify is the highest-quality stock on this list. While all three of these stocks are appealing, Shopify has proven itself the most, and the company's expansion efforts beyond SMB look very promising. While there is more risk that share prices could continue dropping, I think it is worth paying up for high-quality companies, and Shopify fits that bill. Given the number of shares that Cathie Wood owns, I think she is in agreement.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":603,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9914137427,"gmtCreate":1665198319669,"gmtModify":1676537572039,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Missfresh Limited(MF)$ Bullish ","listText":"$Missfresh Limited(MF)$ Bullish ","text":"$Missfresh Limited(MF)$ Bullish","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9914137427","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":55,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9067456069,"gmtCreate":1652500369251,"gmtModify":1676535113125,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9067456069","repostId":"9067487749","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":9067487749,"gmtCreate":1652497550682,"gmtModify":1676535112468,"author":{"id":"4098573842489750","authorId":"4098573842489750","name":"ToughCoyote","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/58563f63b7e52669e57762bb4ebee968","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"4098573842489750","authorIdStr":"4098573842489750"},"themes":[],"title":"Will cryptos esp. The update, known as iOS 14.5, allows iPhone and iPad users to limit companies from tracking their device’s activity. This makes it difficult for companies like Facebook to target users with personalized ads.\nNo company complained more about the impact of iOS 14.5 than Facebook, which warned that the change to the Apple software would impact small businesses’ ability to market to their customers. For a while now, Facebook has warned investors to brace for “ad targeting headwinds” related to Apple’s changes, as well as others in the internet landscape.\nThe social media giant is scheduled to release earnings Wednesday, July 28 after the bell.\nFacebook’s revenue for the second quarter, their guidance for the rest of the year and any commentary from the company’s executives during its earnings call will be telling. This quarter’s results could provide insight as to how many users opted to restrict Facebook’s tracking and whether the social media company has been able to navigate those restrictions.\n“The changes went into effect during the quarter, and we’re still seeing the rollout of the 14.5 update,” said Debra Aho Williamson, principal analyst at eMarketer. “I’m going to be very curious.”\nAlready, Facebook’s peers have navigated the challenge’s of iOS 14.5 with few setbacks. Snap, for example, was not affected by the Apple update as it had anticipated, telling analysts on its earnings call on Thursday that it had observed “higher opt-in rates than we are seeing reported generally across the industry.”Twitterechoed the sentiment, telling shareholders that the effect of Apple’s changes was lower than expected. Both companies did warn that the long-term impacts of iOS 14.5 remain to be seen, but so far, the early returns have been promising.\nHere are three Facebook storylines to follow when the company announces its second-quarter earnings:\n1. Facebook’s commerce business\nIn an effort to combat the restrictions of Apple’s iOS 14.5 update, Facebook has been ramping up its efforts to bring more commerce directly into its own apps.\nIt did this last year by introducing Facebook Shops and Instagram Shops, and more recently, the company announced plans to introduce more ways for creators to promote shoppable products through their Instagram accounts. Further,Facebook in June announced its plans to bring shops to WhatsApp, a messaging service.\nBy having users make purchases from advertisers directly on its own apps, Facebook is able to directly measure the effectiveness of its ads and provide those stats to advertisers.\nAlready, Facebook claims more than 300 million monthly Shops visitors and 1.2 million monthly active Shops across its apps. Any updates from Facebook regarding its commerce efforts will be worthwhile for investors.\n“While Q2 is not historically a big commerce quarter, social commerce is clearly coming into its own,” said Ron Josey, JMP Securities managing director.\n2. Covid’s impact on app usage\nInvestors will want to know whether the economic reopening and the expansion of Covid-19 vaccines have affected the amount of time users spend on Facebook and its various apps.\nA year ago when people worldwide were forced indoors, Facebook and other consumer apps saw their usage skyrocket as people sought to stay connected. Now, investors will want to know if that usage has taken a hit or will it continue growing.\n“Now that people are out and getting around, are they posting more or are they living in the real world? What are they doing?” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer of Bokeh Capital.\nAdding a twist to this, however, is the growing spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus. As cases start to rise again in the U.S., investors will want to know what kind of effect, if any, the delta variant could have on Facebook usage.\n3. The regulatory outlook\nFacebook has been under the microscope of lawmakers and regulators worldwide since the company’s March 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which it was reported that a political consulting firm had improperly accessed the data of 87 million Facebook profiles in a bid to influence the 2016 presidential election.\nThis quarter included some major news regarding all of that regulatory pressure.\nMost notably,Facebook scored a major win in late June when a federal court dismissed an antitrust complaint from the Federal Trade Commission against the company as well as a parallel case brought by 48 state attorneys general. Those fights aren’t quite over just yet, but they certainly relieved some of Facebook’s headaches.\nFurther, the company came under more scrutiny in July when the Biden administration scolded the social media company for not doing enough to combat misinformation on its services that discourage people from taking Covid-19 vaccines. At one point, President Joe Biden said “they’re killing people” in regards to the misinformation on Facebook.\nHearing directly from Facebook’s leaders on their outlook for regulatory pressure following these two developments would be welcome insight for investors.\n“Getting out from underneath the FTC investigation, for the moment, takes a big weight off of Facebook’s back, but the regulatory environment isn’t getting any easier anytime soon,” said Daniel Newman, principal analyst at Futurum Research.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":353,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":172744031,"gmtCreate":1626996571923,"gmtModify":1703481955031,"author":{"id":"3566659005891529","authorId":"3566659005891529","name":"PeterLim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b10e1934fbcbb16c0b6a95a18f8c01e9","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3566659005891529","authorIdStr":"3566659005891529"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool.","listText":"Cool.","text":"Cool.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/172744031","repostId":"2153608165","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2153608165","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1626995460,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2153608165?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-23 07:11","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Twitter earnings show big, unexpected growth and propel stock higher","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2153608165","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Twitter added 7 million new active users, ad revenue hit $1 billion in second quarter.\nTwitter Inc.
