The Federal Open Market Committee vote was unanimous.
\n
The more aggressive signal from the Fed’s forecasts saw the dollar rise, stocks decline and yields on 10-year Treasuries jump.
\n
“It’s a hawkish surprise,” said Thomas Costerg, senior U.S. economist at Pictet Wealth Management, referring to the rate projections. “We are looking at a Fed that seems positively surprised by the speed of vaccinations and the ongoing withdrawal of social-distancing measures.”
\n
The quarterly projections showed 13 of 18 officials favored at least one rate increase by the end of 2023, versus seven in March. Eleven officials saw at least two hikes by the end of that year. In addition, seven of them saw a move as early as 2022, up from four.
\n
“The dots should be taken with a big grain of salt,” Powell said, referring to the interest-rate forecasts. He cautioned that discussions about raising rates would be “highly premature.”
\n
The Fed marked up its inflation forecasts through the end of 2023. Officials see their preferred measure of price pressures rising 3.4% in 2021 compared with a March projection of 2.4%. The 2022 forecast rose to 2.1% from 2%, and the 2023 estimate was raised to 2.2% from 2.1%.
\n
Consumer-price pressures have proven hotter than expected over the last two months. Labor Department figures showed a 0.8% jump in prices in April and a 0.6% rise in May, marking the two biggest monthly increases since 2009.
\n

\n
“As the reopening continues, shifts in demand can be large and rapid, and bottlenecks, hiring difficulties and other constraints could continue to limit how quickly supply can adjust -- raising the possibility that inflation could turn out to be higher and more persistent than we expect,” Powell said.
\n
Labor Department reports on employment published since the last gathering of the FOMC in late April, on the other hand, have disappointed relative to forecasters’ expectations. The U.S. unemployment rate was still elevated at 5.8% in May, with total employment still millions of jobs below pre-pandemic levels.
\n
Even so, the FOMC median projection for unemployment in the fourth quarter of 2021 was unchanged at 4.5%, and the median estimate for the same quarter a year later was marked down to 3.8% from 3.9%. The 2023 forecast was held at 3.5%.
\n
“I am confident that we are on a path to a very strong labor market,” Powell told reporters. “We learned during the course of the last very long expansion, the longest in our history, that labor supply during a long expansion can exceed expectations.”
\n
GDP Forecasts
\n
The U.S. economic recovery is gathering strength as business restrictions lift and social activity increases across the country. The Federal Open Market Committee vote was unanimous.\nThe more aggressive signal from the Fed’s forecasts saw the dollar rise, stocks decline and yields on 10-year Treasuries jump.\n“It’s a hawkish surprise,” said Thomas Costerg, senior U.S. economist at Pictet Wealth Management, referring to the rate projections. “We are looking at a Fed that seems positively surprised by the speed of vaccinations and the ongoing withdrawal of social-distancing measures.”\nThe quarterly projections showed 13 of 18 officials favored at least one rate increase by the end of 2023, versus seven in March. Eleven officials saw at least two hikes by the end of that year. In addition, seven of them saw a move as early as 2022, up from four.\n“The dots should be taken with a big grain of salt,” Powell said, referring to the interest-rate forecasts. He cautioned that discussions about raising rates would be “highly premature.”\nThe Fed marked up its inflation forecasts through the end of 2023. Officials see their preferred measure of price pressures rising 3.4% in 2021 compared with a March projection of 2.4%. The 2022 forecast rose to 2.1% from 2%, and the 2023 estimate was raised to 2.2% from 2.1%.\nConsumer-price pressures have proven hotter than expected over the last two months. Labor Department figures showed a 0.8% jump in prices in April and a 0.6% rise in May, marking the two biggest monthly increases since 2009.\n\n“As the reopening continues, shifts in demand can be large and rapid, and bottlenecks, hiring difficulties and other constraints could continue to limit how quickly supply can adjust -- raising the possibility that inflation could turn out to be higher and more persistent than we expect,” Powell said.\nLabor Department reports on employment published since the last gathering of the FOMC in late April, on the other hand, have disappointed relative to forecasters’ expectations. The U.S. unemployment rate was still elevated at 5.8% in May, with total employment still millions of jobs below pre-pandemic levels.\nEven so, the FOMC median projection for unemployment in the fourth quarter of 2021 was unchanged at 4.5%, and the median estimate for the same quarter a year later was marked down to 3.8% from 3.9%. The 2023 forecast was held at 3.5%.\n“I am confident that we are on a path to a very strong labor market,” Powell told reporters. “We learned during the course of the last very long expansion, the longest in our history, that labor supply during a long expansion can exceed expectations.”\nGDP Forecasts\nThe U.S. economic recovery is gathering strength as business restrictions lift and social activity increases across the country. Robust demand from consumers and businesses alike has outstripped capacity, leading to bottlenecks in the supply chain, longer lead times and higher prices.\nFed officials have said such “fits and starts” are to be expected given the unprecedented nature of the pandemic and expressed optimism about the outlook for the second half of the year as more Americans get vaccinated.\nThe FOMC raised its projections for economic growth. Gross domestic product was seen expanding 7% this year, up from a prior projection of 6.5%. However, the automakers later said they were not in talks with Apple.\n\nApple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the company’s work in autonomous vehicles, following recent reports that the company is in renewed talks to develop its own car.\n“The autonomy itself is a core technology, in my view. If you sort of step back, the car, in a lot of ways, is a robot. An autonomous car is a robot. And so there’s lots of things you can do with autonomy. And we’ll see what Apple does,” Cook said in an interview released Monday with Kara Swisher on the “Sway” podcast.\n“We investigate so many things internally. Many of them never see the light of day. I’m not saying that one will not,” Cook added.\nWhen asked if Apple was working on a car itself or the technology within a car, Cook declined to comment.\n“We love to integrate hardware, software, and services, and find the intersection points of those because we think that’s where the magic occurs. And so that’s what we love to do. And we love to own the primary technology that’s around that,” he said.\nApple has long been expected to get into the auto business with its own vehicle or selling its technology to other car makers, and has made a number of moves indicating it planned to do so. Helping bolster its engineering ranks, the company acquired autonomous vehicle startup Drive.ai in 2019.\nAn autonomous vehicle could position the company against Tesla, which is rolling out its own self-driving features. In 2018, Apple hired back Doug Field, then Tesla’s senior vice president of engineering, to presumably work on self-driving cars. Apple has also brought in several other former Tesla employees, including former Tesla vice president of engineering Michael Schwekutsch, now senior director of engineering for the Special Projects Group at Apple.\nTesla CEO Elon Musk had even said last year that he once tried to start talks to sell the company to Apple, but Cook declined to take a meeting.\n“You know, I’ve never spoken to Elon, although I have great admiration and respect for the company he’s built. The gyrations are beginning to spook even steeled traders.
\n
Bitcoin fell more than 9% on Monday to $42,185, its lowest since Feb. 8, while ether, linked to the ethereum blockhain, fell about 8% to $3,227.22. Dogecoin fell nearly 7% to $0.48, and all three are well under recent records.
\n
Last week Musk said Tesla would stop taking bitcoin as payment, owing to environmental concerns about energy use to process transactions. Defending that decision on Sunday, he suggested Tesla may have sold its own holdings.
\n
In response to an unverified Twitter account called @CryptoWhale, which said https://bit.ly/2QsUQkw: \"Bitcoiners are going to slap themselves next quarter when they find out Tesla dumped the rest of their #Bitcoin holdings. With the amount of hate @elonmusk is getting, I wouldn't blame him...,\" Musk wrote: \"Indeed\".
\n
It is not clear whether he was confirming sales or whether he referred only to the fact that he had faced criticism.
\n
Last week Musk said Tesla would not sell its bitcoin, but the cyrptocurrency has dropped by almost a quarter since Musk's reversal on Tesla taking it as payment.
\n
Dogecoin is also yet to fully recover from Musk describing it as a \"hustle,\" although he did boost the price last week by saying he was working to improve its efficiency.
\n
For an asset class that has surged this year, with dogecoin up about a hundredfold, ether up more than fourfold and bitcoin gaining 45%, some are beginning to call time on the wild ride.
\n
\"Our weekend trading has kicked up, and we're looking at some serious liquidations through the exchanges,\" said Chris Weston of brokerage Pepperstone in Melbourne.
\n
\"I am closing the short-bitcoin/long-ethereum trade and moving to the sidelines, as I feel the dust really needs to settle here,\" he said.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The gyrations are beginning to spook even steeled traders.\nBitcoin fell more than 9% on Monday to $42,185, its lowest since Feb. 8, while ether, linked to the ethereum blockhain, fell about 8% to $3,227.22. Dogecoin fell nearly 7% to $0.48, and all three are well under recent records.\nLast week Musk said Tesla would stop taking bitcoin as payment, owing to environmental concerns about energy use to process transactions. Defending that decision on Sunday, he suggested Tesla may have sold its own holdings.\nIn response to an unverified Twitter account called @CryptoWhale, which said https://bit.ly/2QsUQkw: \"Bitcoiners are going to slap themselves next quarter when they find out Tesla dumped the rest of their #Bitcoin holdings. With the amount of hate @elonmusk is getting, I wouldn't blame him...,\" Musk wrote: \"Indeed\".\nIt is not clear whether he was confirming sales or whether he referred only to the fact that he had faced criticism.\nLast week Musk said Tesla would not sell its bitcoin, but the cyrptocurrency has dropped by almost a quarter since Musk's reversal on Tesla taking it as payment.\nDogecoin is also yet to fully recover from Musk describing it as a \"hustle,\" although he did boost the price last week by saying he was working to improve its efficiency.\nFor an asset class that has surged this year, with dogecoin up about a hundredfold, ether up more than fourfold and bitcoin gaining 45%, some are beginning to call time on the wild ride.\n\"Our weekend trading has kicked up, and we're looking at some serious liquidations through the exchanges,\" said Chris Weston of brokerage Pepperstone in Melbourne.\n\"I am closing the short-bitcoin/long-ethereum trade and moving to the sidelines, as I feel the dust really needs to settle here,\" he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":37,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":352295079,"gmtCreate":1616976870291,"gmtModify":1704800249712,"author":{"id":"3569108454178992","authorId":"3569108454178992","authorIdStr":"3569108454178992","name":"Yeehan1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92208a84c11505290eb1e9d74dde7c52","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569108454178992"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes, it’s overvalued but at the same time, it also demonstrated market irrationality ","listText":"Yes, it’s overvalued but at the same time, it also demonstrated market irrationality ","text":"Yes, it’s overvalued but at the same time, it also demonstrated market irrationality","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/352295079","repostId":"2122230447","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2122230447","pubTimestamp":1616751828,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2122230447?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-26 17:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"GameStop: A Great Company, But Massively Overvalued","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2122230447","media":"TipRanks","summary":"Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter’s latest assessment of GameStop (GME) is something of a double-edged","content":"
\n
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter’s latest assessment of GameStop (GME) is something of a double-edged sword.Following the headline-hogging game retailer’s latest quarterly results, the analyst was full...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1606183248679","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; As for the new price target, the figure still indicates a drop of 84% from current levels. Pachter summed up, “Our downgrade is not a reflection of our opinion of company management, which remains very high. Rather, it appears that the ‘real’ value of GameStop shares (the price willing buyers are prepared to pay in the open market) vastly exceeds the ‘fundamental’ value we believe investors expecting a financial return can reasonably expect.”Pachter’s prognosis reflects the Street’s overall take. GameStop currently has a Moderate Sell consensus rating based on 3 Holds and Sells, each. While not quite as brutal as Patcher’s objective, the $57.75 average price target suggests shares will slide by 70% over the next 12 months.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":43,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":169319472,"gmtCreate":1623816723096,"gmtModify":1703820378865,"author":{"id":"3569108454178992","authorId":"3569108454178992","authorIdStr":"3569108454178992","name":"Yeehan1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92208a84c11505290eb1e9d74dde7c52","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569108454178992"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great China — The value of the cryptocurrency market topped $2 trillion for the first time on Monday driven by a rally inether, the second-largest digital coin.\nIn just over two months, the market capitalization of the cryptocurrency market has doubled, according to price tracking website CoinGecko, as retail and institutional investors pile into the space.\nBitcoin, the biggest digital currency, accounts for over 50% of the entire cryptocurrency market capitalization. Bitcoin has rallied over 100% this year alone, and that has helped drive the cryptocurrency market higher.\nLast month, bitcoin hit a record high of above $61,000. The digital coin was trading at about $58,800 on Tuesday, according to Coindesk data.\nEther rally\nBut the latest boost in the cryptocurrency market appears to have been driven by ether, the digital coin that powers the Ethereum blockchain.\nBitcoin also runs on a technology called blockchainwhich is a public ledger of activity and a way for transactions to take place using the cryptocurrency. In comparison, the Ethereum blockchain is more like a software platform that allows developers to build apps on top of it. Users can then spend ether on these apps.\nSo-calledsmart contracts are a key feature of Ethereum. These are contracts that can be automatically executed using code.\nThere is growing excitement about the use of Ethereum in so-called decentralized finance, or DeFi, applications. These are blockchain-based financial services, such as lending, which could in theory bypass banks and brokerages. Users of these apps may transact using cryptocurrency.\nEthereum also has the underlying technology behind the recent craze innon-fungible tokens, or NFTs — a new type of digital asset.\nBillionaire investor Mark Cuban owns etherand said that it is the \"closest we have to a true currency.\"\nEther hit an all-time high of $2,151.25 on Tuesday morning Singapore time, according to CoinDesk. It is up over 180% year-to-date.\nThe digital currency is also seeing interest among companies.Chinese app maker Meitu bought $22.1 million worth of ether last month, making it one of the first major companies to do so.\nBitcoin interest\nBitcoin still remains the powerhouse of the cryptocurrency market and over the last few months, saw a big increase in interest among companies andlarge institutional investors.\nTeslaandSquareare among a handful ofcompanies that have purchased bitcoin.\nMeanwhile, major investment banks are exploring ways to allow clients to get involved with digital asset investments. In March,CNBC reportedthatMorgan Stanleybecame the first major U.S. bank to offer its wealth management clients access to bitcoin funds.CNBC also reported last month that Goldman Sachsis gearing up to launch its first investment vehicles for bitcoin and other digital assets to clients of its private wealth management group.\nThere is also hope among investors for an expanding portfolio of investment products and many are watching Grayscale Investments, which runs one of the largest publicly traded bitcoin funds. It is known as theGrayscale Bitcoin Trust.\nThe company said on Monday that it is \"100% committed\" to converting that trust into an exchange-traded fund, or ETF. That would effectively track the price of bitcoin and allow traders to play the price movement without owning the cryptocurrency itself. It could be a way for more investors to be involved in the bitcoin market.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":349450979,"gmtCreate":1617633612091,"gmtModify":1704701181135,"author":{"id":"3569108454178992","authorId":"3569108454178992","authorIdStr":"3569108454178992","name":"Yeehan1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92208a84c11505290eb1e9d74dde7c52","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569108454178992"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"This is going to be big ","listText":"This is going to be big ","text":"This is going to be big","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/349450979","repostId":"1198164635","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":56,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":386522251,"gmtCreate":1613212844973,"gmtModify":1704879459797,"author":{"id":"3569108454178992","authorId":"3569108454178992","authorIdStr":"3569108454178992","name":"Yeehan1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92208a84c11505290eb1e9d74dde7c52","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569108454178992"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Are any of them unicorns?","listText":"Are any of them unicorns?","text":"Are any of them unicorns?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/386522251","repostId":"1168862133","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1168862133","pubTimestamp":1613024272,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1168862133?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-11 14:17","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Best Stocks To Buy For 2021? 4 Fintech Stocks To Watch","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1168862133","media":"Nasdaq","summary":"If you’re caught up on the latestBitcoin news, you likely know thatfintech stocksare in the hot seat","content":"
If you’re caught up on the latestBitcoin news, you likely know thatfintech stocksare in the hot seat right now. This is thanks to a $1.5 billion investment into the cryptocurrency from electric vehicle titan Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA). It is one of the latest large tech companies to not only invest in but eventually start acceptingBitcoinas payment. In fact, there have even been speculations of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) being well-positioned to join the cryptocurrency craze as well. How does this connect to fintech stocks?
\n
Well, to begin with, fintech companies are the bridge that allows most of the general public access to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Alternatively, they are also key players in this current age of digital finance. Whatever way you cut it, the fintech industry is becoming more essential and is here to stay for the long run. Meanwhile, more conventional top fintech stocks like Mastercard (NYSE: MA) and American Express (NYSE: AXP) have mostly seen their shares recover to pre-pandemic levels. Therefore, investors would be logical in looking for thebest fintech stocks now. Having read till this point, you might be interested in investing in this industry yourself. If you are, here are four fintech stocks to consider now.
\n
Top Fintech Stocks To Watch
\n
\n
Mogo Inc.(NASDAQ: MOGO)
\n
PayPal Holdings Inc.(NASDAQ: PYPL)
\n
Square Inc.(NYSE: SQ)
\n
Green Dot Corporation(NYSE: GDOT)
\n
\n
Mogo Inc.
\n
Starting us off is Canadian fintech company Mogo. It offers a wide range of financial services ranging from personal loans, mortgages, a Visa Prepaid Card, and credit score viewing. More importantly, the company also facilitates Bitcoin transactions. This particular service has exploded together with the price of the cryptocurrency over the last month. Mogo saw massive month-over-month jumps of 141% in new Bitcoin accounts added and 323% in Bitcoin transaction volume in January. Likewise, MOGO stock is currently up by over 160% year-to-date. Aside from Bitcoin-related tailwinds, the company has also been hard at work expanding its financial portfolio.
\n
For starters, Mogo acquired leading digital payments solutions provider Carta Worldwide, over two weeks ago. This move expanded Mogo’s addressable market by entering the global $2.5 trillion payments market. Following that, the company expanded into Japan last week via Carta. According to Mogo, this move was in support of the TransferWise multi-currency debit card launch in the country. With this move, Mogo continues to expand its market reach globally and seems eager to make the most of its newly acquired subsidiary. With the company firing on all cylinders now, will you be watching MOGO stock?
\n
PayPal Holdings Inc.
\n
Following that, we will be looking at fintech giant, PayPal. Just like our other entries on this list, the company does facilitate cryptocurrency transactions for its clients. Last week, PayPal reported record figures across the board. For its fourth quarter, the company saw a total payment volume (TPV) of $277 billion, a 39% increase year-over-year. Furthermore, the company’s earnings per share more than tripled over the same time as well. In detail, TPVs across its merchant services and Venmo app grew by 42% and 60% respectively. With PayPal riding both Bitcoin and pandemic tailwinds, PYPL stock continues to soar to greater heights. It has gained by over 230% since the March lows and closed yesterday at a record high. Investors may be wondering if it still has room to run moving forward.
\n
For one thing, the company does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Yesterday, it announced a new collaboration with global commerce solutions provider Digital River (DR). To summarize, PayPal now has a new ‘pay later’ option available to U.S. clients on DR’s e-commerce platform. The “Pay in 4” feature will allow customers to pay for items priced from $30 to $600 across four interest-free payments. Simultaneously, merchants get paid upfront at no additional cost to the customer. As PayPal continues to make waves in the fintech space, could PYPL stock continue to flourish this year? You tell me.
\n
Square Inc.
\n
Another top fintech company on the radar now would be Square. Aside from its Bitcoin-related services, the leading fintech player does bring a lot to the table. Whether it is financial solutions, merchant services, or mobile payment, Square’s offerings compete with the best in the field. For the uninitiated, the company markets software and hardware payments products to businesses of all sizes. At the same time, its consumer-focused digital payment ecosystem, Cash App, has also seen mind-blowing growth in the past year. Square reported having 30 million monthly active users on the app which generated over $2 billion in revenue in its recent quarter. Seasoned investors would be familiar with the meteoric rise of the company. Indeed, SQ stock has and continues to impress with gains of over 200% in the past year. With the current focus on fintech, could investors continue to find more value in SQ stock?
\n
Well, it has been posting phenomenal figures on the business side of things. In its third-quarter fiscal reported in November, it saw a year-over-year surge of 139% in total revenue and 246% in cash on hand. Specifically, Cash App’s gross profit skyrocketed by 212% year-over-year. All things considered, will you be watching SQ stock ahead of Square’s upcomingearnings callon February 23?
\n
Green Dot Corporation
\n
Undoubtedly, Green Dot is a fintech industry-veteran that should not be overlooked. As it stands, Green Dot is the world’s largest prepaid debit card company by market capitalization. The company also boasts an impressive list of clients, to say the least. Its fintech partners include but are not limited to, Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Uber (NYSE: UBER), and Walmart (NYSE: WMT). Equally impressive is GDOT stock’s growth of over 220% since the March selloffs. With Green Dot slated to release its fourth-quarter earnings on February 22, I can see investors watching GDOT stock closely.
\n
For the most part, the company has been hard at work maintaining its current momentum. Last month, the company launched a new mobile bank focused on addressing the two in three Americans “living from paycheck to paycheck”. Through this, Green Dot is leveraging its rich industry experience to provide affordable banking solutions for clients in need. In the long run, this could play out well for Green Dot as it engages consumers amidst these troubling times. Moreover, the company appointed a new CTO in Gyorgy Tomso last week. CEO Dan Henry said, “Gyorgy is a fintech veteran whose deep experience leading technology strategy for financial services companies is going to be instrumental in Green Dot’s growth as a leading fintech.” Has all this convinced you to add GDOT to your watchlist?
","source":"lsy1603171495471","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Best Stocks To Buy For 2021? 4 Fintech Stocks To Watch
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBest Stocks To Buy For 2021? 4 Fintech Stocks To Watch\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-02-11 14:17 GMT+8 Nasdaq\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
If you’re caught up on the latestBitcoin news, you likely know thatfintech stocksare in the hot seat right now.
