iconic blue-chip index has made some big changes in recent years to better reflect the modern marketplace.","content":"
The 30 names that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) are certainly well-respected blue chips. But potential doublers? That seems unlikely -- at least in the foreseeable future. After all, the Dow is a collection of the market's oldest, stodgiest, and slowest-moving companies meant for your grandmother's portfolio, right?
\n
If that's your perception of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, you might want to take another look. In recent years, the DJIA has been tweaked and modernized for the current tech-driven era. More than that, though, it includes a handful of companies that are anything but old school. One of these stocks even has the potential to double its value (again) in less than five years.
\n
\n
It's not yesteryear's Dow Jones Industrial Average
\n
The Dow component that has this potential: Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM).
\n
Yes, the provider of a cloud-based, customer relationship management platform is, in fact, a DJIA component. It was added to the index in August 2020 (in the midst of the pandemic) along with Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) and Honeywell (NASDAQ:HON), replacing more-traditional stocks like ExxonMobil, Pfizer, and Raytheon Technologies.
\n
That round of swapping was the latest in a bigger effort to bring the index further into the 21st century. Unsurprisingly, it has juiced the Dow's returns just a bit. It's up more than 90% for the past five years despite the early 2020 swoon linked to the onset of COVID-19, and higher by 200% for the past 10 years.
\n
Salesforce didn't contribute to most of that bullish effort, but don't be surprised if it's a key driver of similar gains in the Dow over the next five- and 10-year stretches.
\n
Salesforce's bright future
\n
If you're not familiar with it, Salesforce is one of the original companies to commercialize cloud computing, before the term even began to be widely used. Its online customer database and customer-management platform were launched in 1999, and there was nothing else quite like it at the time.
\n
That's certainly changed in the meantime. Not only is the customer relationship management (CRM) space now relatively crowded with competitors, but after 22 years of availability, the whole CRM thing has seemingly run most of its course. What's left?
\n
As it turns out, for Salesforce, quite a lot.
\n
\n
The best days for basic CRM offerings might be in the rearview mirror, but what lies ahead are all sorts of revenue-bearing integrations with Salesforce's existing platform. For instance, earlier this week FedEx announced a partnership with Salesforce that will offer e-commerce and supply chain tools to business clients with such a need. In July, Salesforce completed its acquisition of intra-enterprise communication platform Slack, and by August had integrated its CRM tools with Slack's user interface. Salesforce-owned Tableau, which helps organizations collect and analyze all sorts of data, unveiled changes to its service earlier this month that will make it more secure, yet also easier to use at a greater scale.
\n
And this is just a recent sampling of how the company continues to improve its suite of services. Others have yet to be imagined. They're coming, though, spurred by the emerging new norm in workplaces: working from home (or at least working there more often).
\n
Capitalizing on the new norm
\n
This wasn't exactly the plan a year ago. Most organizations that expected employees to regularly report to an office before the pandemic similarly expected them to return to the office once the pandemic had passed. Working from home has worked out better than most organizations could have hoped, however, and given that the coronavirus has yet to fully pass (and might never really do so), at least some companies are rethinking their office-attendance policies altogether.
\n
Take researcher Omdia's recent Future of Work survey as an example. It indicates that more than two-thirds of all U.S. employers believe overall productivity has improved since workers were allowed to do their jobs outside of a centralized office. The same survey suggests more than half of all employees will be doing at least some work from home for the indefinite future.
\n
In this vein, PwC reports that 72% of U.S. executives currently plan to increase their investment in virtual (online) collaboration tools. Technology market researcher IDC forecasts that spending on work-based software -- including cloud-based collaboration and analytics tools -- will grow more than 21% per year through 2024.
\n
It all plays right into Salesforce's hands, setting the stage for the stock to move from its current price near $257 to a value in excess of $500.
\n
Bottom line
\n
There's still something of a wait before we see that move fully pan out, to be clear.
\n
Salesforce is in the right place at the right time, and it's poised for more double-digit percentage growth for the next several years. But there are limits. This company's clients are other companies, for example, which tend to move slowly when making purchases and entering new service contracts no matter how great the need.
\n
Compared to any other Dow component, though, Salesforce is still easily the company that's best positioned for strong, reliable growth for the next several years.
\n
Data source: Thomson Reuters. iconic blue-chip index has made some big changes in recent years to better reflect the modern marketplace.","content":"
The 30 names that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) are certainly well-respected blue chips. soared in 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic funneled millions of new customers to its store","content":"
Targetstock soared in 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic funneled millions of new customers to its stores and website, yet that rally has stalled as investors look toward an end to the crisis. Yet Guggenheim argues that Target’s advantage is here to stay, and that selloff is a buying opportunity.
\n
Analyst Robert Drbul boosted his rating on Target (ticker: TGT) to Buy from Neutral, and established a $200 price target on Monday. He writes that he has “admired the execution and performance of the company over the past year and have been waiting for a pullback to become more constructive.” With the shares off some 6% last week, despite another upbeat earnings report, that time has come.
\n
Drbul sees three main reasons to be bullish on Target. First, he notes the tremendous growth the company saw last year, when it grew revenue by $15 billion, more than the company had grown over the prior 11 years combined.
\n
“Target proved fulfill-from-store can work, driving share gains and meeting an unprecedented demand led by a rise in digital demand,” he writes, and while he had “stubbornly been skeptical” of the company’s ability to execute as well as major competitors such asWalmart(WMT) andAmazon.com(AMZN), those fears have been laid to rest, leading him to think that these three retailers will keep their pandemic market-share gains.
\n
Second, he also likes the company’s expanding partnerships with key brands, includingLevi Strauss(LEVI), Ulta Beauty (ULTA), andWalt Disney(DIS). Yet Guggenheim argues that Target’s advantage is here to stay, and that selloff is a buying opportunity.\nAnalyst Robert Drbul boosted his rating on Target (ticker: TGT) to Buy from Neutral, and established a $200 price target on Monday. He writes that he has “admired the execution and performance of the company over the past year and have been waiting for a pullback to become more constructive.” With the shares off some 6% last week, despite another upbeat earnings report, that time has come.\nDrbul sees three main reasons to be bullish on Target. First, he notes the tremendous growth the company saw last year, when it grew revenue by $15 billion, more than the company had grown over the prior 11 years combined.\n“Target proved fulfill-from-store can work, driving share gains and meeting an unprecedented demand led by a rise in digital demand,” he writes, and while he had “stubbornly been skeptical” of the company’s ability to execute as well as major competitors such asWalmart(WMT) andAmazon.com(AMZN), those fears have been laid to rest, leading him to think that these three retailers will keep their pandemic market-share gains.\nSecond, he also likes the company’s expanding partnerships with key brands, includingLevi Strauss(LEVI), Ulta Beauty (ULTA), andWalt Disney(DIS). He notes that these high-profile agreements with popular consumer brands could be a “tipping point for vendors,” as they drive more and more traffic to Target.\nFinally, Drbul is upbeat about the U.S. consumer in 2021: While unemployment remains an issue, government stimulus and greater savings rates should allow for more shopping. “We expect Target to fully participate in the discretionary spending increase in 2021, led by its apparel offering.”\nTarget stock is up 1.4% to $175 in recent trading. Video Communications (ZM) started 2021 on a very strong note but its shares have seen continued pressure during the tech sell-off in recent months.
\n
In April of this year, I concluded that Zoom ended 2020 on a solid note, yet I was still not connecting to the shares as the 2021 guidance was largely in line with the fourth quarter run rate, leaving little to no sequential growth.
\n
Furthermore, the revenues to be realized in the future depend heavily on the outcome of the pandemic. As we have seen good news on that front of course recently, that is a bad outcome for Zoom (at least in the near term). While the company is off to a good start in 2021, the potential for sales declines on a year-over-year basis later this year makes me frightened at a huge 25 times sales multiple.
\n
My April Take
\n
Zoom is one of the undisputed beneficiaries of the Covid-19 pandemic, as the operating momentum was unheard of. That rapid growth is clearly reliant on the pandemic which creates a key risk as well, as in my opinion the outlook is largely binary, related to the potential reopening of the economies across the globe.
\n
That is not entirely fair as well, as the binary outcome does not mean that we return to a pre-Covid-19 world either, because even if the pandemic comes to an end, demand will in all likelihood come in (far) above the run rate reported ahead of the pandemic.
\n
The thesis started with 2019, a year in which the company grew sales by 88% to $623 million, and with shares trading at $60 ahead of the pandemic, valuations were elevated at around 20 times sales. Originally the company guided for 50% revenue growth in 2020, yet the pandemic changed everything. First quarter sales in 2020 jumped 169% as a result of the pandemic, triggering a doubling of the annual sales outlook.
\n
Second quarter sales were up 355% in the second quarter, 367% in the third quarter and growth even topped 369% in the fourth quarter. Fourth quarter revenues of $882 million were essentially equal to the original outlook for all of 2020, showing the real extent of the momentum!
\n
With sales running at a run rate of $3.5 billion, earnings were coming in around a billion a year as the great momentum triggered a huge run in the shares from $60 ahead of the pandemic, to a high of nearly $600 in October. Shares are now down to $330, as nearly half the gains have been given back. Working with a 300 million shares count at the time of the fourth quarter results, valued at $322 per share, the company was valued at $96 billion, for a $92 billion enterprise valuation.
\n
This came down to 26 times annualized sales and 100 times earnings. While >300% growth rates look compelling, comparables from now on will get difficult, but moreover is the uncertainty on the outcome of the pandemic, and thus the demand for Zoom's products, as well as potential about becoming a commodity like product and competition from Teams, among others.
\n
With the company guiding for first quarter 2021 sales of $900-$905 million and full year sales of $3.77 billion for 2021, it was evident to me that sequential growth would be coming to a standstill as this did not rhyme with a 25 times sales multiple in my book. This was the key reason why I have not initiated a position yet despite the near 50% pullback seen in the share price.
\n
Solid Start To 2021
\n
Zoom started the year on a solid note with first quarter sales up 191% to $956 million. The percentage growth rates come down quite a bit already after the first quarter of last year already included a huge bump in sales, and with shares running at a $3.8 billion run rate, it is evident that the best of the growth is a thing of the past already. The company continues to be very profitable with after-tax earnings of $227 million resulting in nearly 25% after-tax profit margins, yet earnings only trend around $3 per share here.
\n
A share count of 305 million shares now trade at $330 which implies an equity valuation just above the $100 billion mark, for an enterprise value of around $96 billion. Based on the current run rate of $3.8 billion in sales, the company trades at 25 times sales. On the back of the solid first quarter results, the company hiked the midpoint of the full year sales guidance to $3.98 billion, essentially a $210 million increase in the sales guidance. This suggests somewhat stronger momentum in the remainder of the year, despite the promising trends related to the pandemic. Even after the hike, shares still trade at 24 times sales.
\n
While the hike in the guidance for the entire year is comfortable, it still suggests that sequential revenue and earnings numbers are likely seen flattish from here onward, as I fear that in case of a big re-opening we might even see temporary negative growth numbers on a year-over-year basis. Those prospects frighten me with a current 24 times sales multiple attached to the business, and even as the business is very profitable, I am very scared on these prospects, meaning that I continue to stand on the sideline.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Zoom: Zooming In, Not Connecting
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nZoom: Zooming In, Not Connecting\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-06 08:44 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nAfter a ridiculous 2020, Zoom previously guided for flattish sequential trends in 2021.\nThe first quarter has actually been surprisingly strong as the company hiked the full-year guidance as ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"ZM":"Zoom"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4433258-zoom-zooming-in-not-connecting","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1125022737","content_text":"Summary\n\nAfter a ridiculous 2020, Zoom previously guided for flattish sequential trends in 2021.\nThe first quarter has actually been surprisingly strong as the company hiked the full-year guidance as well.\nDespite this positive news flow, I am very worried about potential lack of year-over-year growth later this year at a 25 times sales multiple.\n\nPhoto by Sundry Photography/iStock Editorial via Getty Images\nZoom Video Communications (ZM) started 2021 on a very strong note but its shares have seen continued pressure during the tech sell-off in recent months.\nIn April of this year, I concluded that Zoom ended 2020 on a solid note, yet I was still not connecting to the shares as the 2021 guidance was largely in line with the fourth quarter run rate, leaving little to no sequential growth.\nFurthermore, the revenues to be realized in the future depend heavily on the outcome of the pandemic. First quarter sales in 2020 jumped 169% as a result of the pandemic, triggering a doubling of the annual sales outlook.\nSecond quarter sales were up 355% in the second quarter, 367% in the third quarter and growth even topped 369% in the fourth quarter. Fourth quarter revenues of $882 million were essentially equal to the original outlook for all of 2020, showing the real extent of the momentum!\nWith sales running at a run rate of $3.5 billion, earnings were coming in around a billion a year as the great momentum triggered a huge run in the shares from $60 ahead of the pandemic, to a high of nearly $600 in October. Shares are now down to $330, as nearly half the gains have been given back. Working with a 300 million shares count at the time of the fourth quarter results, valued at $322 per share, the company was valued at $96 billion, for a $92 billion enterprise valuation.\nThis came down to 26 times annualized sales and 100 times earnings. While >300% growth rates look compelling, comparables from now on will get difficult, but moreover is the uncertainty on the outcome of the pandemic, and thus the demand for Zoom's products, as well as potential about becoming a commodity like product and competition from Teams, among others.\nWith the company guiding for first quarter 2021 sales of $900-$905 million and full year sales of $3.77 billion for 2021, it was evident to me that sequential growth would be coming to a standstill as this did not rhyme with a 25 times sales multiple in my book. This was the key reason why I have not initiated a position yet despite the near 50% pullback seen in the share price.\nSolid Start To 2021\nZoom started the year on a solid note with first quarter sales up 191% to $956 million. The percentage growth rates come down quite a bit already after the first quarter of last year already included a huge bump in sales, and with shares running at a $3.8 billion run rate, it is evident that the best of the growth is a thing of the past already. The company continues to be very profitable with after-tax earnings of $227 million resulting in nearly 25% after-tax profit margins, yet earnings only trend around $3 per share here.\nA share count of 305 million shares now trade at $330 which implies an equity valuation just above the $100 billion mark, for an enterprise value of around $96 billion. Even after the hike, shares still trade at 24 times sales.\nWhile the hike in the guidance for the entire year is comfortable, it still suggests that sequential revenue and earnings numbers are likely seen flattish from here onward, as I fear that in case of a big re-opening we might even see temporary negative growth numbers on a year-over-year basis. Those prospects frighten me with a current 24 times sales multiple attached to the business, and even as the business is very profitable, I am very scared on these prospects, meaning that I continue to stand on the sideline.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":96,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":888689632,"gmtCreate":1631493336326,"gmtModify":1676530555767,"author":{"id":"3569273453559983","authorId":"3569273453559983","name":"XavierAwe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8889e85a368f471766f0e82fb4a508f9","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569273453559983","authorIdStr":"3569273453559983"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","listText":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","text":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82a0f0ff1ab81b3aaf4993def3be1c72","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/888689632","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":358,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":814828179,"gmtCreate":1630807385891,"gmtModify":1676530397500,"author":{"id":"3569273453559983","authorId":"3569273453559983","name":"XavierAwe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8889e85a368f471766f0e82fb4a508f9","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569273453559983","authorIdStr":"3569273453559983"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","listText":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","text":"$General Motors(GM)$Same","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4fe08010cfbdff31647eacfbe15bbc57","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/814828179","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":347,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168403358,"gmtCreate":1623979907674,"gmtModify":1703825331099,"author":{"id":"3569273453559983","authorId":"3569273453559983","name":"XavierAwe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8889e85a368f471766f0e82fb4a508f9","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569273453559983","authorIdStr":"3569273453559983"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$PayPal(PYPL)$Same same same","listText":"$PayPal(PYPL)$Same same same","text":"$PayPal(PYPL)$Same same same","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10168c4734ba1492456de82cd083e543","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/168403358","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":33,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":169133710,"gmtCreate":1623820718230,"gmtModify":1703820504303,"author":{"id":"3569273453559983","authorId":"3569273453559983","name":"XavierAwe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8889e85a368f471766f0e82fb4a508f9","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569273453559983","authorIdStr":"3569273453559983"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Same","listText":"Same","text":"Same","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/169133710","repostId":"1105892749","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1105892749","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623809672,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1105892749?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-16 10:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Bulls Look for Stock Catalysts. He is a Tesla bull rating shares Buy. His price target for the stock is $900 a share, almost 50% higher than recent levels. “Even bulls should admit that the rise in the stock price during the second half of 2020, while perhaps deserved in principle, was packed into a highly concentrated time frame,” he writes.
\n
Tesla shares rose 227% in the second half of 2020, buoyed by strong earnings, strong deliveries, and the stock’s inclusion in the S&P 500.
\n
“The stock had the better part of five years-worth of performance packed into about five month,” Jonas adds. He says his clients are now looking for the next big thing that can drive the stock forward again. His ideas include capacity expansion in Texas and Germany. After that, he predicts Tesla will open up five more plants between now and the middle of this decade.
\n
Jonas is also looking for Tesla to unveil another new vehicle model. By his estimation, Tesla covers only about 15% of the total addressable market for the auto industry with its Y, X, 3, and S models. Model expansion will be a positive. That isn’t on the near-term horizon, though the company is due to deliver its Cybertruck later in 2021.
\n
Canaccord analyst Jonathan Dorsheimer is looking in a different area for a catalyst: residential solar power. Part of the reason he is bullish is that “Tesla is creating an energy brand and an Apple-esque ecosystem of products with customer focused connectivity, seamlessly marrying car, solar, and back-up power,” he wrote in a report released Sunday.
\n
Dorsheimer is bullish, but feeling a little down lately. He still rates the stock Buy, but he cut his price target to $812 from $974 in his report. Among other things, he is disappointed by battery delays. Tesla is planning to use larger battery cells that promise better range, charge time, and costs. Those batteries aren’t available yet.
\n
Looking a little further back, Goldman Sachs analyst Mark Delaney was watching Tesla’s Model S Plaid delivery event last week. The Plaid can go zero to 60 miles per hour in less than two seconds. Delaney was impressed by the technology, but pointed out the Plaid, at roughly $130,000, is a niche vehicle. He is looking for 2021 deliveries to exceed expectations. Delaney is modeling 875,000 vehicles for Tesla in 2021. The Wall Street consensus number is closer to 825,000.
\n
Delaney rates shares Buy and has an $860 price target.
\n
New production ramping up, strong deliveries, and a growing solar business is what these three will watch for in coming months.
