It said in a September filing that it was informed by the Nasdaq that it had 60 calendar days from Sept. 17 to get the exchange's approval for a plan detailing how it will get back in compliance with listing requirements. That gets to a date of Nov. 16.

Nasdaq rules on "discipline" state that the "last day of the period so computed shall be included, unless it is a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, in which event the period runs until the end of the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday."

A source close to the company said the effective deadline is Nov. 18 since the 60-day deadline falls on a Saturday.

Submission of a satisfactory plan has been made harder by the fact that Super Micro's last auditor, Ernst & Young, resigned last month after raising concerns about the company's accounting and saying that it wasn't willing to be associated with management's financial statements.

"To remain listed Super Micro needs to submit to Nasdaq a plan of how they are going to regain compliance," said Olga Usvyatsky, an accounting analyst and author of an accounting newsletter, Deep Quarry. "It is up to Nasdaq whether to accept or reject the plan."

Were the Nasdaq to accept Super Micro's plan, the company might get an extension to get current on its requirements, she added.

It seems unlikely that Super Micro will have a new auditor by the time the Nasdaq deadline comes around. The company disclosed Wednesday that it will also need time to file its quarterly filing for the most recent quarter. In doing so, Super Micro said in a filing that it "needs additional time "to select and engage a successor firm" and for that auditor to review the financial statements from last fiscal year.

Super Micro shares are down 62% in the past month, and Wall Street seems pessimistic that the company will be able to satisfy the deadline and thus keep its Nasdaq listing without an auditor. The company said in Wednesday's filing that it was "diligently working to select an independent registered public accounting firm."

"As we previously disclosed, [Super Micro] intends to take all necessary steps to achieve compliance with the Nasdaq continued listing requirements as soon as possible," a company spokesperson told MarketWatch on Thursday.

It remains to be seen if the company will be able to submit a satisfactory proposal without an auditor or whether the Nasdaq would be willing to accept a proposal if Super Micro doesn't yet have a new accountant but can show it's close to getting one.

If Super Micro shares ultimately get delisted, they would continue to trade but do so over the counter rather than on the Nasdaq exchange, and perhaps with a change to the company's ticker symbol. When electric-vehicle maker Fisker was delisted earlier this year, it moved to OTC trading, and the company's ticker symbol changed to "FSRN" from "FSR."

Super Micro was delisted already, back in 2018, which might mean that the Nasdaq has it on a shorter leash this time around.

Back in September 2017, Super Micro had delayed its annual filing and was notified by the Nasdaq that it had 60 days to submit a proposal for how it would get back in compliance. Super Micro said it could appeal if its plan didn't get accepted.

When that 60-day deadline hit in November 2017, the company said it needed more time to complete and audit review and finalize its financials. The company was then given some time to submit a revised plan.

By March 2018, Super Micro's stock had still yet to be delisted, and the company sought a hearing with the Nasdaq at which it would present a plan to get back in compliance with Nasdaq requirements. At the time, Super Micro noted in a filing that the hearings panel had the authority to grant it up to 360 days from when the original filing was due in order to regain its compliance.

That May, Super Micro said it was on track to submit the needed filings and the hearings panel granted it until August of that year to get current with filing requirements. The panel said Super Micro was able to stay listed until then.

But the company fell short of that August 2018 deadline as well, with its shares moving to the OTC markets after they were suspended from the Nasdaq.

In all, it was a drawn-out process that investors shouldn't rule out this time around either.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Super Micro's Looming Deadline Fuels Fear of Delisting. SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC faces a looming deadline to outline how it will get back in the good graces of the Nasdaq, with the server maker on thin ice as it tries to maintain its listing on the exchange. But the company's past delisting shows that the process of reaching that point can be drawn-out, with various extensions given along the way.Super Micro already delayed its annual filing to review its financial controls. It said in a September filing that it was informed by the Nasdaq that it had 60 calendar days from Sept. 17 to get the exchange's approval for a plan detailing how it will get back in compliance with listing requirements. That gets to a date of Nov. 16.Nasdaq rules on \"discipline\" state that the \"last day of the period so computed shall be included, unless it is a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, in which event the period runs until the end of the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday.\"A source close to the company said the effective deadline is Nov. 18 since the 60-day deadline falls on a Saturday.Submission of a satisfactory plan has been made harder by the fact that Super Micro's last auditor, Ernst & Young, resigned last month after raising concerns about the company's accounting and saying that it wasn't willing to be associated with management's financial statements.\"To remain listed Super Micro needs to submit to Nasdaq a plan of how they are going to regain compliance,\" said Olga Usvyatsky, an accounting analyst and author of an accounting newsletter, Deep Quarry. \"It is up to Nasdaq whether to accept or reject the plan.\"Were the Nasdaq to accept Super Micro's plan, the company might get an extension to get current on its requirements, she added. It seems unlikely that Super Micro will have a new auditor by the time the Nasdaq deadline comes around. The company disclosed Wednesday that it will also need time to file its quarterly filing for the most recent quarter. In doing so, Super Micro said in a filing that it \"needs additional time \"to select and engage a successor firm\" and for that auditor to review the financial statements from last fiscal year.Super Micro shares are down 62% in the past month, and Wall Street seems pessimistic that the company will be able to satisfy the deadline and thus keep its Nasdaq listing without an auditor. The company said in Wednesday's filing that it was \"diligently working to select an independent registered public accounting firm.\"\"As we previously disclosed, [Super Micro] intends to take all necessary steps to achieve compliance with the Nasdaq continued listing requirements as soon as possible,\" a company spokesperson told MarketWatch on Thursday. It remains to be seen if the company will be able to submit a satisfactory proposal without an auditor or whether the Nasdaq would be willing to accept a proposal if Super Micro doesn't yet have a new accountant but can show it's close to getting one.If Super Micro shares ultimately get delisted, they would continue to trade but do so over the counter rather than on the Nasdaq exchange, and perhaps with a change to the company's ticker symbol. When electric-vehicle maker Fisker was delisted earlier this year, it moved to OTC trading, and the company's ticker symbol changed to \"FSRN\" from \"FSR.\"Super Micro was delisted already, back in 2018, which might mean that the Nasdaq has it on a shorter leash this time around.Back in September 2017, Super Micro had delayed its annual filing and was notified by the Nasdaq that it had 60 days to submit a proposal for how it would get back in compliance. Super Micro said it could appeal if its plan didn't get accepted. When that 60-day deadline hit in November 2017, the company said it needed more time to complete and audit review and finalize its financials. The company was then given some time to submit a revised plan.By March 2018, Super Micro's stock had still yet to be delisted, and the company sought a hearing with the Nasdaq at which it would present a plan to get back in compliance with Nasdaq requirements. In all, it was a drawn-out process that investors shouldn't rule out this time around either.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":21,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":370888668774432,"gmtCreate":1731588115645,"gmtModify":1731590028769,"author":{"id":"3569318025811476","authorId":"3569318025811476","name":"LeonardKSW","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/eeba92ccfc8a91444aa3e36de4a39425","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569318025811476","idStr":"3569318025811476"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Genting Sing(G13.SI)$ stupid counter","listText":"$Genting Sing(G13.SI)$ stupid counter","text":"$Genting Sing(G13.SI)$ stupid counter","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/370888668774432","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":26,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":370842068033856,"gmtCreate":1731576740832,"gmtModify":1731576744564,"author":{"id":"3569318025811476","authorId":"3569318025811476","name":"LeonardKSW","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/eeba92ccfc8a91444aa3e36de4a39425","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569318025811476","idStr":"3569318025811476"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bankruptcy would be nice","listText":"Bankruptcy would be nice","text":"Bankruptcy would be nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/370842068033856","repostId":"2483582867","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2483582867","kind":"live","pubTimestamp":1731575258,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2483582867?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-11-14 17:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Super Micro Computer Shares Fall 8.1% Premarket, Set to Extend Losses for Fifth Straight Day","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2483582867","media":"THOMSON REUTERS","summary":"Super Micro Computer Shares Fall 8.1% Premarket, Set to Extend Losses for Fifth Straight Day","content":"

Super Micro Computer Shares Fall 8.1% Premarket, Set to Extend Losses for Fifth Straight Day

","source":"reuters_en_live","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; SMCI stock now trades at just 13 times trailing earnings. This low earnings multiple suggests either of the following: the market is punishing Super Micro Computer more than it should or the books are cooked more than we can imagine.
\n
To draw conclusions here, let's take a deeper look into the drama behind the stock and what could happen going forward. I'm going to assume you know nothing about this business, so let's understand what it is.
\n
READ ALSO: 8 Best Wide Moat Stocks to Buy Now and 30 Most Important AI Stocks According to BlackRock.
\n
What Does Super Micro Computer Do?
\n
Super Micro Computer describes itself in its recent 10-Q report as \"...a Silicon Valley-based provider of accelerated compute platforms that are comprised of application-optimized high performance and high-efficiency server and storage systems for a variety of markets, including enterprise data centers, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (“AI”), 5G and edge computing. We also provide global support and services to help our customers install, upgrade and maintain their computing infrastructure.\"
\n
In simple terms, sell servers for cloud computing and AI models. This makes them--or at least you'd think as such--a very good bet on AI. That's exactly why this stock rallied so much and analysts were so optimistic about where it was heading. The breadth of this company's products across so many high-growth areas made it the perfect AI bet in some sense:
\n

\n
So, why didn't this bet pay off in recent months?
\n
The Rise and (Recent) Fall of Super Micro Computer
\n
The product suite here really made it a natural beneficiary of the AI boom. AI computing power was--and still is--surging. It only made sense that companies that are providing the hardware for these power-hungry large language models were about to post triple-digit growth figures and nosebleed valuations.
\n
The stock rose ~4,630% from the end of 2019 to its peak.
\n
However, cracks began to appear in August when short-seller Hindenburg Research published a report alleging accounting irregularities at Super Micro. The company then delayed filing its annual 10-K report. You don't really do this unless something is really wrong--and something was wrong.
\n
While management downplayed the issues--stating they did not expect significant restatements--the scrutiny was too much to not have an impact.
\n
In late September, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Justice Department had launched a probe into Super Micro following the Hindenburg report allegations. This news caused Super Micro shares to fall 12% in a single trading session.
\n
The real bombshell dropped on October 30th when Super Micro disclosed that its auditor Ernst & Young (EY) had resigned. EY said it could no longer rely on management's representations. SMCI stock plunged 30% on that news and analysts began pulling back price targets significantly. SMCI stock now trades at $26 as of writing.
\n
Should You Catch This Falling Knife?
\n
As I've noted before: this stock trades at just 13 times trailing earnings. It's a data center company with huge potential, and any AI stock trading at such a low amount should warrant a closer look.
\n
And what do you do when you want to take a closer look? The vast majority of analysts would look at the company's income statement and balance sheet, along with whatever supplementary information it has to make a judgment about whether or not they think the price is undervalued or overvalued.
\n
However, the Hindenburg report and the auditor's resignation puts all previous reports from Super Micro Computer into question. One could waggle around its earnings figures and projections to show you it's trading so low, but when you look at what has happened, how confident can you really be about those earnings figures?
\n
It's not just earnings figures that are hanging in the balance. The fact that Super Micro Computer has been delaying its 10-K for this long suggests that books may have been cooked enough to burn other parts of the income statement and maybe even the balance sheet. As a result, things are very murky here. The history behind SMCI makes it pretty fishy.
\n

\n
Regardless, I still think Super Micro Computer is worth looking into. The books can only be cooked so much--if they are cooked in the first place--so, even if we discount 20% off its earnings for potential financial statement manipulation, SMCI stock is still going for a fire sale compared to other AI companies.
\n
So before you make a decision, let's get a basic overview of Super Micro's financials.
\n

\n
Here are some things to keep in mind beyond those figures:
\n

\n
If I were forced to take management's figures as is--without assuming significant manipulation or delisting--I would say SMCI stock is a falling knife that could be worth catching if you are someone who's okay with losing a good portion of that investment if things don't turn out as expected.
\n
SMCI's Financial Expectations
\n
I believe it is a good idea to look into a range of expectations going forward to have a broader idea of where this train is heading. The company's management is obviously going to give you some very rosy figures going forward, but let's look into what analysts think.
\n

\n
At the midpoint of these projections, you're paying 7.7 times forward earnings for next year, and 5.8 times earnings for FY2026's earnings. You're also paying 0.55 times forward sales, and 0.47 times FY2026 sales.
\n
The median forward PE ratio among 851 hardware companies is 16.25 times. The forward PS ratio of 0.55 is also much lower than the company's broader industry average. SMCI stock now trades at just 13 times trailing earnings. This low earnings multiple suggests either of the following: the market is punishing Super Micro Computer more than it should or the books are cooked more than we can imagine.\nTo draw conclusions here, let's take a deeper look into the drama behind the stock and what could happen going forward. I'm going to assume you know nothing about this business, so let's understand what it is.\nREAD ALSO: 8 Best Wide Moat Stocks to Buy Now and 30 Most Important AI Stocks According to BlackRock.\nWhat Does Super Micro Computer Do?\nSuper Micro Computer describes itself in its recent 10-Q report as \"...a Silicon Valley-based provider of accelerated compute platforms that are comprised of application-optimized high performance and high-efficiency server and storage systems for a variety of markets, including enterprise data centers, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (“AI”), 5G and edge computing. Our Total IT Solutions include complete servers, storage systems, modular blade servers, blades, workstations, full rack scale solutions, networking devices, server sub-systems, server management and security software. We also provide global support and services to help our customers install, upgrade and maintain their computing infrastructure.\"\nIn simple terms, sell servers for cloud computing and AI models. This makes them--or at least you'd think as such--a very good bet on AI. That's exactly why this stock rallied so much and analysts were so optimistic about where it was heading. The breadth of this company's products across so many high-growth areas made it the perfect AI bet in some sense:\n\nSo, why didn't this bet pay off in recent months?\nThe Rise and (Recent) Fall of Super Micro Computer\nThe product suite here really made it a natural beneficiary of the AI boom. AI computing power was--and still is--surging. It only made sense that companies that are providing the hardware for these power-hungry large language models were about to post triple-digit growth figures and nosebleed valuations.\nThe stock rose ~4,630% from the end of 2019 to its peak.\nHowever, cracks began to appear in August when short-seller Hindenburg Research published a report alleging accounting irregularities at Super Micro. The company then delayed filing its annual 10-K report. You don't really do this unless something is really wrong--and something was wrong.\nWhile management downplayed the issues--stating they did not expect significant restatements--the scrutiny was too much to not have an impact.\nIn late September, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Justice Department had launched a probe into Super Micro following the Hindenburg report allegations. This news caused Super Micro shares to fall 12% in a single trading session.\nThe real bombshell dropped on October 30th when Super Micro disclosed that its auditor Ernst & Young (EY) had resigned. EY said it could no longer rely on management's representations. SMCI stock plunged 30% on that news and analysts began pulling back price targets significantly. SMCI stock now trades at $26 as of writing.\nShould You Catch This Falling Knife?\nAs I've noted before: this stock trades at just 13 times trailing earnings. It's a data center company with huge potential, and any AI stock trading at such a low amount should warrant a closer look.\nAnd what do you do when you want to take a closer look? The vast majority of analysts would look at the company's income statement and balance sheet, along with whatever supplementary information it has to make a judgment about whether or not they think the price is undervalued or overvalued.\nHowever, the Hindenburg report and the auditor's resignation puts all previous reports from Super Micro Computer into question. One could waggle around its earnings figures and projections to show you it's trading so low, but when you look at what has happened, how confident can you really be about those earnings figures?\nIt's not just earnings figures that are hanging in the balance. The fact that Super Micro Computer has been delaying its 10-K for this long suggests that books may have been cooked enough to burn other parts of the income statement and maybe even the balance sheet. As a result, things are very murky here. The history behind SMCI makes it pretty fishy.\n\nRegardless, I still think Super Micro Computer is worth looking into. The books can only be cooked so much--if they are cooked in the first place--so, even if we discount 20% off its earnings for potential financial statement manipulation, SMCI stock is still going for a fire sale compared to other AI companies.\nSo before you make a decision, let's get a basic overview of Super Micro's financials.\n\nHere are some things to keep in mind beyond those figures:\n\nIf I were forced to take management's figures as is--without assuming significant manipulation or delisting--I would say SMCI stock is a falling knife that could be worth catching if you are someone who's okay with losing a good portion of that investment if things don't turn out as expected.\nSMCI's Financial Expectations\nI believe it is a good idea to look into a range of expectations going forward to have a broader idea of where this train is heading. The company's management is obviously going to give you some very rosy figures going forward, but let's look into what analysts think.\n\nAt the midpoint of these projections, you're paying 7.7 times forward earnings for next year, and 5.8 times earnings for FY2026's earnings. You're also paying 0.55 times forward sales, and 0.47 times FY2026 sales.\nThe median forward PE ratio among 851 hardware companies is 16.25 times. The forward PS ratio of 0.55 is also much lower than the company's broader industry average. SMCI stock will look even cheaper if you compare it to some high-caliber AI companies.\nBut again, take everything with a spoonful of salt, because there's a decent possibility that the earnings figures we're dealing with are not accurate. If that turns out to be true, estimates will be revised down substantially.\nThe Beneish M-Score is a mathematical model that we can use to try and identify if a company manipulated its earnings. Here's how SMCI performs:\n\nOf course, The Beneish M-Score isn't foolproof, but it's something to keep in mind if you're putting money into SMCI.\nThe Bottom Line\nMy take is that if you are chasing high-risk, high-reward AI bets, buying SMCI could end up being worth it. The premium you're paying is much lower than other AI companies, so there's a clear argument that the negatives here have been priced in.\nHowever, I would not buy SMCI if you are a value investor or if you are uncomfortable with losing over 50% of your money.\n\n\nI'm relying heavily on analyst estimates, but my doomsday scenario is what I believe could be the floor if everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. A bad recession could drag it down even lower.\n$13 may be hard to swallow for some bulls--even if it's the worst price target--but you should consider that very few would've thought that its current price of $26 would've been possible if they were asked just a few months back.\nWith all that in mind, I think whether or not SMCI is a buy relies entirely on how much risk you're okay with taking. I would give SMCI stock a \"speculative buy\" rating at best due to the huge amount of uncertainty. If you can't afford to take big hits--a retiree, for example--I would not touch this stock with a ten-foot pole.\nThere are better AI bets out there; often safer--with higher upside potential.\nWhile we acknowledge the potential of SMCI as an AI play, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns, and doing so within a shorter time frame. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than NVDA but that trades at less than 5 times its earnings, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock.\nREAD NEXT: 10 Best Pet Stocks To Invest In According to Analysts and 15 AI News Investors Should Not Miss.\nDisclosure: None. The Mac maker accounted for 50% of its $353 billion stock portfolio at the end of the second quarter. But many investors incorrectly assume Apple is on the cutting edge of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation given its status as the biggest of the big tech companies. Wall Street is more skeptical.

Apple didn't even mention AI at its developers conference in June, and Needham analyst Laura Martin says the iPhone giant is "pretty far behind" its big tech peers where generative AI is concerned. That may or may not be true -- Apple does have a penchant for secrecy -- but investors would still be hard pressed to consider Apple an AI stock given the available information.

However, Berkshire does own small positions in Amazon and Snowflake, and both have defined their AI strategies more clearly. Three, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leader in cloud computing, and its market share rivals that of Microsoft Azure and Alphabet's Google Cloud combined.

That last point is particularly salient because it positions the company as an epicenter for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation. Indeed, consultancy Gartner recently recognized AWS as a leader in cloud AI developer services, and the company is pressing its advantage by investing heavily in AI product development. Those efforts have already borne fruit. Amazon Bedrock is a new cloud service that allows businesses to access and customize pre-trained large language models to build generative AI applications.

However, CEO Andy Jassy recently highlighted an even more compelling reason why AWS is well positioned to be a category leader in generative AI, saying: "People want to bring generative AI models to the data, not the other way around. AWS not only has the broadest array of storage, database, analytics, and data management services for customers, it also has more customers and data stores than anybody else."

Here's the upshot: Straits Research says retail e-commerce sales will increase by 8% annually through 2030, and Grand View Research says the adtech and cloud computing markets will grow 14% annually during that period. Meanwhile, Bloomberg Intelligence expects the generative AI market to compound at a 42% growth rate annually through 2033. Those figures imply low-double-digit sales growth for Amazon (at a minimum) for the foreseeable future, which makes its current valuation of 2.7 times sales look cheap. That's why this Warren Buffett stock is worth buying.

2. Snowflake

Data is the cornerstone of AI, and Snowflake helps businesses manage big data across public clouds and private infrastructure. Its platform supports multiple workloads that businesses have traditionally tackled with a patchwork of tools, including data engineering for ingestion, data lakes for storage, and data warehousing for analytics. But product consolidation is not its only advantage.

One of Snowflake's greatest selling points is its cloud neutrality, meaning it supports those workloads across all three major public clouds. Snowflake also allows customers to securely share, buy, and sell data, which creates a potentially powerful network effect: its platform becomes increasingly valuable as more businesses onboard data. No other company offers the same breadth of functionality and flexibility.

Snowflake reported solid financial results in the second quarter of fiscal 2024 (ended July 31). Its customer count increased 25% to 8,537, and the average customer spent 42% more over the past year. In turn, revenue soared 37% to $640 million, and non-GAAP earnings improved to $0.22 per diluted share, up from $0.01 per diluted share in the year-ago period.

Turning to the future, investors have good reason to think Snowflake can maintain its growth trajectory. CEO Frank Slootman provided the following insight during the latest earnings call: "Data sharing makes Snowflake uniquely positioned to enable AI workloads." Slootman also said enterprises cannot have an AI strategy without first developing a data strategy.

That AI tailwind, coupled with the broader benefits of developing a data strategy, should help Snowflake achieve its medium-term target of $10 billion in annual revenue by fiscal 2029 (ends Jan. 31, 2029). That implies annual revenue growth of 37% over the next four-and-a-half years.

In that context, Snowflake's current valuation of 21.4 times sales looks reasonable, and it's certainly a discount to the three-year average of 66.4 times sales. Investors should feel comfortable buying a small position in this growth stock today. I would start with 1% of my portfolio (or less) and selectively add shares during pullbacks.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Warren Buffett AI Growth Stocks to Buy Now and Hold Forever
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Warren Buffett AI Growth Stocks to Buy Now and Hold Forever\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2023-09-22 08:01 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has a significant stake in Apple. The Mac maker accounted for 50% of its $353 billion stock portfolio at the end of the second quarter. But many investors incorrectly assume Apple is on the cutting edge of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation given its status as the biggest of the big tech companies. Wall Street is more skeptical.Apple didn't even mention AI at its developers conference in June, and Needham analyst Laura Martin says the iPhone giant is \"pretty far behind\" its big tech peers where generative AI is concerned. That may or may not be true -- Apple does have a penchant for secrecy -- but investors would still be hard pressed to consider Apple an AI stock given the available information. However, Berkshire does own small positions in Amazon and Snowflake, and both have defined their AI strategies more clearly. Here's why these growth stocks are worth buying.1. AmazonThe investment thesis for Amazon boils down to three bullet points. One, it operates the most popular e-commerce marketplace worldwide, and its market share is still rising. justify 'gradual' ","content":"

\n
\nMW UPDATE: BlackBerry stock is now a 'sell' at Canaccord, as price is too rich to justify 'gradual' improvement in fundamentals\n
\n
\n Tomi Kilgore \n
\n
\n Price target raised 25% by analyst Michael Walkley, but rating cut as new target is 19% below current prices \n
\n
\n Shares of BlackBerry Ltd. sank Tuesday, after Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley recommended investors sell, as prices have rallied too much recently to justify the improvement seen in the company's security software business. \n
\n
\n Walkely said he believes BlackBerry has made positive strides integrating its Cylance artificial intelligence-based products should improve. \n
\n
\n BlackBerry reported in December fiscal third-quarter revenue that fell 20% from a year ago, and the current FactSet consensus calls for revenue for fiscal 2021, which ends this month, to fall 14.3%. But fiscal 2022 revenue is expected to rise 10.3%. \n
\n
\n Based on his recovery view, Walkley raised his price target by 25%, to $10 from $8. But that new target is still 18.6% below current levels, and he cut his rating to sell, after being at hold for at least three years. \n
\n
\n \"[W]ith the volatility in the shares following recent unusual trading activity from a targeted short squeeze, the share price is above our increased price target, resulting in our downgrade to sell,\" Walkley wrote in a note to clients. \n
\n
\n Don't miss: It isn't just GameStop: Here are some of the other heavily shorted stocks shooting higher . \n
\n
\n The U.S.-listed stock (BB.T) dropped 5.8% in midday trading. Although the stock has tumbled 51.1% since closing at a 9 1/2-year high of $25.10 on Jan. 27, it has still more than doubled (up136.6%) over the past three months. In comparison, the ETFMG Prime Cyber Security exchange-traded fund $(HACK)$ has rallied 26.6% over the past three months and the S&P 500 index has gained 8.5%. \n
\n
\n Even though the stock has pulled back sharply from its \"Reddit driven rally\" to its January high, \"our analysis leads us to believe the shares are still overvalued,\" Walkley wrote. \n
\n
\n And besides the recent short media-inspired volatility, Walkley noted that BlackBerry's software business has been growing \"much slower\" than those of its security software competitors. So despite improving fundamentals, he believes the stock should trade at a discount to rivals until there is \"more proof in execution\" on the company's product roadmap. \n
\n
\n -Tomi Kilgore; 415-439-6400; AskNewswires@dowjones.com \n
\n
\n \n
\n
\n $(END)$ Dow Jones Newswires\n
\n
\n February 16, 2021 12:48 ET (17:48 GMT)\n
\n
\n Copyright (c) 2021 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.\n
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
BlackBerry stock is now a 'sell' at Canaccord, as price is too rich to justify 'gradual' improvement in fundamentals
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBlackBerry stock is now a 'sell' at Canaccord, as price is too rich to justify 'gradual' improvement in fundamentals\n
\n\n
\n\n\n<div class=\"head\" \">\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Dow Jones
\n
2021-02-17 01:48
\n
\n\n
\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n

\n\n\n Based on his recovery view, Walkley raised his price target by 25%, to $10 from $8. But that new target is still 18.6% below current levels, and he cut his rating to sell, after being at hold for at least three years. \n\n\n \"[W]ith the volatility in the shares following recent unusual trading activity from a targeted short squeeze, the share price is above our increased price target, resulting in our downgrade to sell,\" Walkley wrote in a note to clients. \n\n\n Don't miss: It isn't just GameStop: Here are some of the other heavily shorted stocks shooting higher . \n\n\n The U.S.-listed stock (BB.T) dropped 5.8% in midday trading.
