So AMC issued more debt and new shares several times during 2020, effectively digging the hole deeper.</p>\n<p>As of March 31, 2021, AMC's balance sheet was insolvent -- even if the company sold every last asset, it still wouldn't have enough cash to cover its liabilities.</p>\n<p>Now, in order to meet its minimum liquidity requirements, attendance must reach 85% of pre-COVID levels by the fourth quarter of this year. If that doesn't happen, management said it would likely seek a \"restructuring of [its] liabilities.\" That's a fancy phrase that means shareholders would be completely wiped out.</p>\n<p>So let's ignore the red flags raised by AMC's valuation. Investors still need to ask this question: Can attendance reach 85% of pre-pandemic levels in that time frame? If you aren't certain the answer is yes, then it's time to sell this stock. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.</p>\n<p>Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.</p>\n<p>As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.</p>\n<p>This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.</p>\n<p>Both the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.</p>\n<p>Clearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”</p>\n<p>As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know do<i>not</i>want to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.</p>\n<p>What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.</p>\n<p>This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.</p>\n<p>However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.</p>\n<p><b>Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential</b></p>\n<p>I’m talking about <b>Nio, Inc.</b>(NYSE:<b>NIO</b>). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio back in February.</p>\n<p>The company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.</p>\n<p>The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies like<b>NVIDIA Corporation</b>(NASDAQ:<b>NVDA</b>), another one of my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.</p>\n<p>Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.</p>\n<p>With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.</p>\n<p>That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.</p>\n<p>Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”</p>\n<p>Interestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.\nInstead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.\nAs a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.\nThis “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.\nBoth the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.\nClearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”\nAs someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.\nWhat Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.\nThe good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.\nThis is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.\nHowever, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.\nTaking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential\nI’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.\nThe company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.\nThe company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.\nNow, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.\nWith the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.\nThat means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.\nShares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”\nInterestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. AMC stock is wildly overvalued</h3>\n<p>The pandemic hit AMC hard last year, forcing the company to shutter theaters around the world. Not surprisingly, that sparked sharp declines in attendance, sales, and profitability. At its current price, this is a dangerous investment.</p>\n<h3>3. AMC has a liquidity problem</h3>\n<p>Before the pandemic, AMC had $265 million in cash and $4.7 billion in debt on its balance sheet. It also had $4.9 billion in operating lease liabilities (i.e., rent).</p>\n<p>When the pandemic hit, the company deferred a portion of its rent, but still couldn't cover operating expenses and interest payments. So AMC issued more debt and new shares several times during 2020, effectively digging the hole deeper.</p>\n<p>As of March 31, 2021, AMC's balance sheet was insolvent -- even if the company sold every last asset, it still wouldn't have enough cash to cover its liabilities.</p>\n<p>Now, in order to meet its minimum liquidity requirements, attendance must reach 85% of pre-COVID levels by the fourth quarter of this year. If that doesn't happen, management said it would likely seek a \"restructuring of [its] liabilities.\" That's a fancy phrase that means shareholders would be completely wiped out.</p>\n<p>So let's ignore the red flags raised by AMC's valuation. Investors still need to ask this question: Can attendance reach 85% of pre-pandemic levels in that time frame? If you aren't certain the answer is yes, then it's time to sell this stock. But many others are likely to get burned when the stock price finally returns to more normal levels.\nIf you own shares, here are three reasons to sell AMC stock right now.\n1. Today, Wall Street analysts see larger-than-average gains between 35% and 54% for the stocks of <b>Alteryx</b> (NYSE:AYX), <b>Uber Technologies</b> (NYSE:UBER), and <b>Micron Technology</b> (NASDAQ:MU).</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1459afd2cda964bb91343031338eaea0\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>Alteryx: Implied upside of 35%</h3>\n<p>Data analytics software company Alteryx has not only seen its shares fall with its peer group in 2021, but it actually underperformed the sector in 2020 as well. Currently, the stock is down more than 50% from the all-time highs set back in July 2020, and it trades at just 11 times sales, a discount to most of its peers in the SaaS sector.</p>\n<p>There are a couple of reasons for Alteryx's relative underperformance. First, it has to use a strange accounting convention, whereby it recognizes 35%-40% of its contract value upfront, with the rest recognized ratably over time. That can really distort things when new business slows down, or when contract terms compress. That happened with the onset of the pandemic, so it appeared that Alteryx's revenue had plunged. YOY = year over year.</p>\n<p>While there is some deceleration, it's somewhat inevitable that a company will decelerate as it grows. Moreover, new CEO Mark Anderson, who took over in late 2020, is fairly new to the job. He has taken a more focused approach to sales and marketing, concentrating Alteryx's efforts on the largest global companies with more capacity to spend. So that could be why the customer count is slowing -- Alteryx is implementing a strategy of getting its best customers to spend more. On the recent conference call with analysts, Anderson reiterated that he sees \"new and significant expansion opportunities,\" just within the Global 2000 large-cap companies, where Alteryx only has 39% penetration.</p>\n<p>Wall Street analysts appear to believe in Anderson, who has a track record of scaling software businesses, most recently at <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PANW\">Palo Alto Networks</a></b> (NYSE:PANW). The average target among 14 analysts who cover Alteryx stock is $117.71, about 35% upside from current levels.</p>\n<h3>Uber Technologies: Implied upside of 40%</h3>\n<p>With the economic reopening at hand, analysts are also warming up to the world's leading ride-hailing business, Uber Technologies. Obviously, Uber's core ride-hailing business took a big hit during the pandemic; however, the company was able to maintain some level of revenue stability thanks to its food delivery business, which skyrocketed with people stuck at home.</p>\n<p>Food delivery revenue rose 230% last quarter, helped out by the December acquisition of Postmates and helping to offset a 41% year-over-year decline in mobility revenue. Last quarter, food delivery was actually the largest segment by revenue for the first time. Helped out by increased operating leverage, higher take rates, and cost cuts following the Postmates acquisition, Uber's food delivery platform saw adjusted EBITDA losses narrow from $313 million to $200 million last quarter. On the conference call with analysts, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said he expects EBITDA breakeven for the delivery business by year end. The freight business also continued to grow nicely, with revenue up 51% and EBITDA losses improving by 55%.</p>\n<p>Uber has also been streamlining its business, selling off its autonomous vehicle and flying car divisions to start-ups, and management expects the streamlining of the business will lead to profitability in the near term -- at least on an adjusted EBITDA basis.</p>\n<p>The ideal scenario would be for food delivery revenue to stick around due to new habits and work-from-anywhere cultures, with ride-sharing bouncing back strongly and the freight business scaling. Analysts appear to share the sunny outlook, with the average price target among 38 analysts at $68.64, about 40% above current stock levels.</p>\n<h3>Micron Technology: Implied upside of 53.6%</h3>\n<p>Finally, memory chip maker Micron Technology also has lots of upside, according to Wall Street analysts. It may be surprising that Micron is down some 21% from all-time highs, given that memory prices have been rising amid a big chip shortage. Perhaps Micron's participation in the technology sector has contributed to the skepticism.</p>\n<p>What's strange is that Micron, unlike a lot of high-growth software stocks, is really more like a cyclical stock, and appears set for higher profits throughout 2021 and into 2022. In fact, the stock only trades at a mere 7.5 times next year's earnings estimates. Micron has also committed to return at least 50% of free cash flow to shareholders via share repurchases, so the company will likely take advantage of the currently discounted stock price by buying back stock.</p>\n<p>Of course, Micron's share price is quite volatile, so investors should be prepared. Some analysts appear to be looking for the next down cycle, as Micron tends to boom and bust based on memory prices. In fact, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> analyst at Lynx Equity Strategies just downgraded Micron to a sell rating based on the anticipation of memory price slowdowns in the back half of the year; but strangely, that same analyst lowered his price target from $110 to $100, still about 30% higher than today's stock price!</p>\n<p>Fears of a downturn seem a bit premature to me, since memory cycles tend to last a couple years, not just two good quarters. Micron remained profitable in the recent downturn, and could potentially make higher highs in this up cycle. Meanwhile, memory-intensive digitization trends around 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things accelerated during the pandemic, which I wouldn't expect to slow down any time soon.</p>\n<p>Most analysts appear to have a more bullish outlook, with the average price target among 30 analysts covering the stock at $118.62, about 53% higher than the price today. In fact, even the lowest analyst price target is $90, about 18% higher than the current stock price, and the highest price target is $172. The prospect of higher inflation and a rotation to cheaper \"reopening\" plays have certainly hurt some of the very stocks that have powered the market's gains over the past few years.\nBut digital trends aren't going away with the reopening, so if the world goes back to a pre-pandemic \"normal,\" it's reasonable to expect that technology stocks will eventually gain some market leadership and continue their strong relative performance. Today, Wall Street analysts see larger-than-average gains between 35% and 54% for the stocks of Alteryx (NYSE:AYX), Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER), and Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU).\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nAlteryx: Implied upside of 35%\nData analytics software company Alteryx has not only seen its shares fall with its peer group in 2021, but it actually underperformed the sector in 2020 as well. Currently, the stock is down more than 50% from the all-time highs set back in July 2020, and it trades at just 11 times sales, a discount to most of its peers in the SaaS sector.\nThere are a couple of reasons for Alteryx's relative underperformance. First, it has to use a strange accounting convention, whereby it recognizes 35%-40% of its contract value upfront, with the rest recognized ratably over time. That can really distort things when new business slows down, or when contract terms compress. That happened with the onset of the pandemic, so it appeared that Alteryx's revenue had plunged. YOY = year over year.\nWhile there is some deceleration, it's somewhat inevitable that a company will decelerate as it grows. Moreover, new CEO Mark Anderson, who took over in late 2020, is fairly new to the job. He has taken a more focused approach to sales and marketing, concentrating Alteryx's efforts on the largest global companies with more capacity to spend. So that could be why the customer count is slowing -- Alteryx is implementing a strategy of getting its best customers to spend more. On the recent conference call with analysts, Anderson reiterated that he sees \"new and significant expansion opportunities,\" just within the Global 2000 large-cap companies, where Alteryx only has 39% penetration.\nWall Street analysts appear to believe in Anderson, who has a track record of scaling software businesses, most recently at Palo Alto Networks (NYSE:PANW). The average target among 14 analysts who cover Alteryx stock is $117.71, about 35% upside from current levels.\nUber Technologies: Implied upside of 40%\nWith the economic reopening at hand, analysts are also warming up to the world's leading ride-hailing business, Uber Technologies. Obviously, Uber's core ride-hailing business took a big hit during the pandemic; however, the company was able to maintain some level of revenue stability thanks to its food delivery business, which skyrocketed with people stuck at home.\nFood delivery revenue rose 230% last quarter, helped out by the December acquisition of Postmates and helping to offset a 41% year-over-year decline in mobility revenue. Last quarter, food delivery was actually the largest segment by revenue for the first time. Helped out by increased operating leverage, higher take rates, and cost cuts following the Postmates acquisition, Uber's food delivery platform saw adjusted EBITDA losses narrow from $313 million to $200 million last quarter. On the conference call with analysts, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said he expects EBITDA breakeven for the delivery business by year end. The freight business also continued to grow nicely, with revenue up 51% and EBITDA losses improving by 55%.\nUber has also been streamlining its business, selling off its autonomous vehicle and flying car divisions to start-ups, and management expects the streamlining of the business will lead to profitability in the near term -- at least on an adjusted EBITDA basis.\nThe ideal scenario would be for food delivery revenue to stick around due to new habits and work-from-anywhere cultures, with ride-sharing bouncing back strongly and the freight business scaling. Analysts appear to share the sunny outlook, with the average price target among 38 analysts at $68.64, about 40% above current stock levels.\nMicron Technology: Implied upside of 53.6%\nFinally, memory chip maker Micron Technology also has lots of upside, according to Wall Street analysts. It may be surprising that Micron is down some 21% from all-time highs, given that memory prices have been rising amid a big chip shortage. Perhaps Micron's participation in the technology sector has contributed to the skepticism.\nWhat's strange is that Micron, unlike a lot of high-growth software stocks, is really more like a cyclical stock, and appears set for higher profits throughout 2021 and into 2022. In fact, the stock only trades at a mere 7.5 times next year's earnings estimates. Micron has also committed to return at least 50% of free cash flow to shareholders via share repurchases, so the company will likely take advantage of the currently discounted stock price by buying back stock.\nOf course, Micron's share price is quite volatile, so investors should be prepared. Some analysts appear to be looking for the next down cycle, as Micron tends to boom and bust based on memory prices. In fact, one analyst at Lynx Equity Strategies just downgraded Micron to a sell rating based on the anticipation of memory price slowdowns in the back half of the year; but strangely, that same analyst lowered his price target from $110 to $100, still about 30% higher than today's stock price!\nFears of a downturn seem a bit premature to me, since memory cycles tend to last a couple years, not just two good quarters. Micron remained profitable in the recent downturn, and could potentially make higher highs in this up cycle. Meanwhile, memory-intensive digitization trends around 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things accelerated during the pandemic, which I wouldn't expect to slow down any time soon.\nMost analysts appear to have a more bullish outlook, with the average price target among 30 analysts covering the stock at $118.62, about 53% higher than the price today. In fact, even the lowest analyst price target is $90, about 18% higher than the current stock price, and the highest price target is $172. It had marketed the shares at HK$17.2 to HK$19.8 apiece.</p>\n<p>The teahouse operator is testing the waters after Angelalign Technology Inc., a maker of clear orthodontic braces, heralded a revival in Hong Kong’s IPO market with a massive 132% pop on its June 16 debut, becoming one of this year’s most popular offerings in the city.</p>\n<p>First-time share sales in Hong Kong are ticking up after a period of muted activity, as an easing of the global tech selloff has created a more favorable backdrop for debuts. At least 13 companies are currently in the lineup to go public, compared to only two deals priced in April and four in May, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.</p>\n<p>Still, not every IPO is getting a warm welcome as investors have become more selective amid higher volatility in markets and growing expectations of a tightening of U.S. monetary policy. China Youran Dairy Group Ltd. and CARsgen Therapeutics Holdings Ltd. slumped 12% and 9%, respectively, in their trading debuts last Friday.</p>\n<p>Nayuki’s share sale attracted five cornerstone investors who agreed to subscribe for about $155 million of stock. They are UBS Asset Management, China Universal Asset Management, GF Fund, China Southern Asset Management and CCB International, according to the prospectus.</p>\n<p>The retail portion of Nayuki’s IPO was more than 400 times oversubscribed, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported, citing people it didn’t identify.</p>\n<p>The top-of-the-range pricing values the bubble tea chain at about $4.38 billion, up from the $2 billion in its last funding round. It originally planned to file for an IPO in the U.S. in February last year, Bloomberg News reported, but eventually opted for Hong Kong.</p>\n<p>The Shenzhen-based firm sells fresh-fruit teas, cold-brew beverages and baked goods. It recorded losses of 203 million yuan in 2020 and 40 million yuan in the previous year, according to its prospectus. Revenue rose 22% year-on-year to 3.1 billion yuan.</p>\n<p>Nayuki plans to use proceeds from the offering to expand its teahouse network, deepen market penetration and strengthen its supply chain. It had 491 flagship Nayuki outlets at the end of last year, including 489 in mainland China and one each in Hong Kong and Japan.</p>\n<p>Nayuki’s shares are set to start trading in Hong Kong on June 30. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.</p>\n<p>Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.</p>\n<p>As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.</p>\n<p>This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.</p>\n<p>Both the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.</p>\n<p>Clearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”</p>\n<p>As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know do<i>not</i>want to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.</p>\n<p>What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.</p>\n<p>This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.</p>\n<p>However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.</p>\n<p><b>Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential</b></p>\n<p>I’m talking about <b>Nio, Inc.</b>(NYSE:<b>NIO</b>). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio back in February.</p>\n<p>The company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.</p>\n<p>The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies like<b>NVIDIA Corporation</b>(NASDAQ:<b>NVDA</b>), another one of my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.</p>\n<p>Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.</p>\n<p>With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.</p>\n<p>That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.</p>\n<p>Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”</p>\n<p>Interestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.\nThis is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.\nHowever, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.\nTaking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential\nI’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.\nThe company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.\nThe company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.\nNow, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.\nWith the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.\nThat means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.\nShares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”\nInterestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. So I don’t think we will be able to see open and free travel in the region, in particular, any time soon,” said the minister who also co-chairs Singapore’s coronavirus task force.\nSingapore is a Southeast Asian city-state with no domestic air travel market. International travel came to a sudden halt in the past year due to the pandemic, and that’s hurt Singapore’s aviation and tourism sectors — two major contributors to economic growth.\nWong said the Singapore government continues to talk with its counterparts in the region about setting up “safe travel lanes.” He didn’t name the places Singapore is in talks.\n“Perhaps amongst the countries with low and stable infections, we may have some travel arrangements. Perhaps for vaccinated travelers, there may be some benefits in terms of shorter quarantine times,” said the minister.\n“But for the most part ... all of that is not going to add up to what we used to have pre-Covid. So air travel, I’m afraid, will take some time to recover,” Wong added.\n\nSingapore has an air travel bubble agreement with Hong Kong that will allowtravelers to skip quarantine.
