With so much uncertainty in the air, it's hard to feel confident about even basic things like whether to add to your positions or reduce them.But you're not helpless in the face of inflation, and the answer regarding whether you should buy or sell stocks is also very much dependent on which stocks are under consideration. Let's take a look at a pair of arguments and a pair of stocks to weigh the possibilities.Why it's tempting to sellBetween justified fears of inflation contributing to a prolonged bear market and the economic pressure that inflation inherently forces onto investors via rising prices, it's not shocking that people are thinking about selling stocks. Selling puts money into investors' accounts, and it also inoculates them against the anxiety caused by daily falling share prices. But, it's usually not a good idea as timing the market is a fool's errand that doesn't typically end well.The reason why selling right now might not be a good decision is that there's a solid chance not much has changed over the last few months about a given company's ability to compete. Take CVS Health (CVS 2.33%), for example. The total return of its shares is down by about 11% so far this year, which isn't too bad compared to the market's decline of more than 20%.But its competitive disposition hasn't changed. The products it sells, namely prescriptions and consumer health goods, aren't ones that people buy less of when prices are rising. That gives the company pricing power, which it can use to protect its margins even during inflation.After all, you need to buy roughly the same amount of shampoo each month to stay clean, regardless of whether it's marginally more expensive than before. It would take a pretty fiendish rise in prices to change that, and such a change would probably only be temporary due to destruction of demand. Likewise, while its shares are down, it isn't as though any of CVS's competitors have made major inroads during this inflationary period.Nor are fears of the Federal Reserve continuing to hike interest rates going to harm the company's ability to do business. With trailing 12-month revenue of nearly $299 billion, it isn't a growth-stage company -- and because it's profitable, it doesn't need to borrow to raise cash to open new retail locations or anything else. So rising borrowing costs aren't going to put a crimp in its ability to grow, and inflation isn't a major concern.As for businesses in similar situations, where the ongoing economic phenomena aren't going to cause problems with growth or margin maintenance, it simply doesn't make sense to sell.Why it's probably better to buyWarren Buffett's timeless advice to \"be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful\" is as relevant as ever. The level of fear about inflation in the market right now is driving stocks down, and in many cases -- as demonstrated by CVS -- the downward movements are not always prompted by genuine reductions in companies' abilities to grow or compete.Therefore, generally speaking, if you have your eye on a stock and your investing thesis for it isn't negatively impacted by ongoing economic events, it's probably as good a time as ever to buy it.That's especially true for shares of under-the-weather evergreen stocks like Costco Wholesale (COST 1.97%). Much like CVS, its stock is down by more than 18% this year, but it's still profitable, and its discount warehouse business model is as in-demand as ever. Costco's huge range of products include many consumer staples like groceries and toilet paper, so its base of revenue, which totaled $195.9 billion in 2021, is relatively secure from inflation-linked headwinds. And people might even want to shop at its warehouses more if they think they'll get a better deal there amid rising prices.In a nutshell, you're leaving money on the table if you were thinking of buying Costco shares and inflation made you hesitate. Berkshire&#39;s annual meeting, held virtually for the past two years in the pandemic, will be streamed live Saturday.</p><p><b>Here are a few topics to watch out for.</b></p><p><b>&#39;Sociopathic grandpa&#39;?</b></p><p>Maybe Berkshire Hathaway chief executive officer Buffett will address billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel&#39;s remarks earlier this month that the legendary, 91-year old investor is a top &#34;enemy&#34; of bitcoin and part of a &#34;finance gerontocracy&#34; holding back the cryptocurrency&#39;s adoption. Thiel made those remarks at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami, where he also called Buffett a &#34;sociopathic grandpa from Omaha.&#34; Crypto has soared in popularity, with Fidelity Investments announcing April 26 that it will allow investors to add a bitcoin account to their 401(k)s.</p><p><b>Fed fighting inflation</b></p><p>In May 2020, Buffett praised Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell&#39;s handling of the market tumult during the COVID-19 crisis. He compared Powell with the late Paul Volcker, who as Fed Chair in the early 1980s helped tame inflation that had spiked in the 1970s. &#34;He and Jay Powell couldn&#39;t seem more different in temperament...but Jay Powell, in my view, and the Fed board belong up there on the pedestal&#34; with him, Buffett said in remarks at Berkshire&#39;s 2020 meeting.</p><p>This year the U.S. stock market has sunk, with investors jittery over the Fed raising interest rates to fight the hottest inflation in about four decades. The cost of living has surged in the wake of massive monetary and fiscal stimulus during the pandemic, and now, investors fear Powell risks tipping the economy into recession as he aims to bring inflation under control.</p><p><b>What about all that cash?</b></p><p>At the start of 2022, Berkshire (BRKA)(BRKA) had about $112 billion in &#34;dry powder&#34; that could be used for investments, acquisitions or stock buybacks, according to a note earlier this month from Morningstar senior stock analyst Greggory Warren. &#34;Buffett&#39;s recent buying spree--including Occidental Petroleum, HP, and Alleghany --has barely dented the conglomerate&#39;s cash balance,&#34; he wrote. &#34;We believe the company has finally hit a nexus where it is far more focused on reducing its cash hoard through stock and bond investments and share repurchases.&#34;</p><p><b>Winding down?</b></p><p>Buffett, the &#34;Oracle of Omaha&#34; widely revered for his stock-picking prowess, will soon be auctioning off a private meal to raise money for the Glide Foundation for a final time. Glide, a California charity for the homeless, said Monday that bidding for a lunch with Buffett will open June 12. What Glide described as the &#34;grand finale&#34; lunch may raise questions about how much longer he intends on leading Berkshire Hathaway as CEO. He&#39;s been auctioning private meals since 2000, taking a pause for two years during the pandemic. Greg Abel, Berkshire&#39;s vice chairman in charge of non-insurance operations, is expected to be Buffett&#39;s successor.</p><p><b>Climate change</b></p><p>Berkshire shareholders are once again set to challenge Buffett to step up efforts to combat climate change by doing more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to a New York Times report on Monday. Buffett, who has argued that subsidiaries such as Berkshire Hathaway Energy disclose plenty about their emissions, faces a shareholder proposal asking for an overhaul of how the conglomerate views climate risks, the New York Times reported.</p><p><b>Berkshire performance</b></p><p>Berkshire will release its first-quarter earnings report Saturday morning as it kicks off its annual meeting.</p><p>Buffett&#39;s Berkshire (BRKA) is outperforming the beaten-up stock market this year, with its shares putting up gains so far in 2022. Berkshire&#39;s class B shares are up 10.8%  this year through Thursday, while the S&amp;P 500 index  dropped 10% over the same period, FactSet data show.</p><p><b>Also Read: 12 Questions for Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Meeting</b></p><p>The highlight of Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting Saturday in Omaha will be 5 hours and 15 minutes of questions directed at CEO Warren Buffett and vice chairmen Charlie Munger, Ajit Jain, and Greg Abel.</p><p>Buffett, 91, told Charlie Rose in a recent interview that he is eager to hear from what he calls his business partners at the first in-person Berkshire Hathaway  (ticker: BRK.A and BRK.B) meeting since 2019.</p><p>“They can ask questions that can be impertinent. They can do anything they want with us. I love it and Charlie loves it,” Buffett told Rose.</p><p>The Q&amp;A session will get under way at 10:15 a.m. Eastern with Buffett taking alternate questions from CNBC’s Becky Quick and shareholders.</p><p>With so many questions on shareholders’ minds, here are a dozen that could be posed to Buffett.</p><p>1. You said earlier in April that you’re in good health and have no plans to retire. How long do you expect to remain CEO and what would you most like to accomplish in the remaining time?</p><p>2. Berkshire’s stock buybacks slowed in the first two months of the first quarter. Is the stock less attractive and much closer to intrinsic value after its rally this year?</p><p>3. Your investment lieutenants Todd Combs and Ted Weschler are expected to take over the $350 billion equity portfolio when you depart. How have they performed versus the S&amp;P 500 since they joined Berkshire about a decade ago, and why aren’t they managing more than their current $35 billion?</p><p>4. What would it take for you to consider selling Berkshire’s huge Apple stake?</p><p>5. Give us your thinking on the Occidental (OXY) and HP Inc. (HPQ) investments this year. Would you consider buying all of Occidental?</p><p>6. You’ve often praised Google. Why hasn’t Alphabet (GOOG) become a big equity holding for Berkshire?</p><p>7. Even with the impact of the tech stock selloff that began last November, NVDA closed out 2021 up 125% for the year.Last Friday, NVDA closed at $195.15, a new low for 2022 and its lowest close since last July. For some investors, this is a signal that it’s time to hold off on investing in this company. For smart investors looking to build up their growth portfolios, NVDA stock at this price is tough to resist.NVDA Stock Is Impacted by Outside FactorsA bargain-priced stock is not really a bargain when the company is underperforming. However, Nvidia is the exact opposite of this. The company has been on an extended roll and its future looks even brighter. Graphics cards and GPUs were primarily of interest to PC makers — especially those producing PC gaming rigs — for years. However, over the past decade, the massive parallel processing capability of GPUs has made them central to our most advanced technological innovations, including AI and machine learning.Let’s look back at Nvidia’s last quarter to put this in some perspective. The company reported record fourth quarter revenue of $7.64 billion. That was up 53% year-over-year. Nvidia set record quarterly revenue numbers for three different divisions: Gaming, Data Center and Professional Visualization. Adjusted earnings-per-share of $1.32 was up 69% YoY. Both revenue and earnings beat market expectations.
