to contend with surging inflation, leading the Wall Street bank to revise up its forecasts for U.S. Treasury yields across the curve.

The bank now sees shorter-dated yields rising at a faster pace than longer-dated ones, causing the yield curve to invert by around 20 basis points. It predicts that 2-year yields -- now around 2.24% -- will rise to 2.9% at the end of this year and 3.15% at the end of 2023. Its 2022 forecast on 10-year yields was revised to 2.7%, up from 2.25% previously. The 10-year yield was around 2.45% in trading Friday.

The forecast changes follow a steady drumbeat of comments from Fed officials who have said they would be willing to raise rates by a half-percentage point at a time if needed, a type of move the U.S. central bank hasn’t done since 2000. That has pushed up bond yields and left traders across Wall Street bracing for a more aggressive path from the Fed.

An inverted yield curve is normally seen as a warning signal of a recession. But Goldman Sachs said that while the risk of an economic slowdown has increased, a modestly inverted curve is a less definitive predictor of a recession, especially in a high-inflation environment like today’s. Inversions were much deeper in the 1970s and early 1980s ahead of a recession, it said.

“One feature of our forecast is a modest inversion of the 2s10s yield curve by year-end,” the report said. “However, we note that the nominal curve tends to invert more easily in a high inflation environment, and we could see earlier and/or deeper curve inversions this cycle. In such an environment, a deeper nominal curve inversion may be needed to produce the same recession odds in models as seen in more recent business cycles.”

Goldman Sachs’s forecast is for the Fed to end its hiking cycle with its benchmark rate at 3.00-3.25%, compared with the market pricing of 2.50-2.75%. The rate is now at 0.25%-0.50%.

","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Goldman Sees Half-Point Fed Hikes in May and June, Higher Yields
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nGoldman Sees Half-Point Fed Hikes in May and June, Higher Yields\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-03-25 22:57 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said it now expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by a half-percentage point at both its May and June meetings to contend with surging inflation, leading the ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"GS":"高盛"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/goldman-sees-half-point-fed-141144535.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1170832075","content_text":"Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said it now expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by a half-percentage point at both its May and June meetings to contend with surging inflation, leading the Wall Street bank to revise up its forecasts for U.S. Treasury yields across the curve. The bank now sees shorter-dated yields rising at a faster pace than longer-dated ones, causing the yield curve to invert by around 20 basis points. You couldn’t guess it from looking at the scoreboard. Because the S&P 500 broke records once more this morning. Clearly investor confidence is waning, but not their risk appetites. Equities like Advanced Micro Devices(NASDAQ:AMD) stock are now miles higher than last year.
\n
This makes it difficult for those who are true fans of the stock. Under the leadership of Lisa Sue, the company has improved its financial situation tremendously.
\n
Investors have consequently rewarded AMD through buying its stock, but therein lies the problem. Today’s note carries a cautionary tone, but not against the company prospects. My concern is about the timing for those looking for new investments.
\n
I have no issues with their fundamental success, since demand for tech is increasing at an exponential rate. There is no doubt that chip company services have a long runway ahead. The pandemic sealed that deal, so there are no more holdouts. Everyone had to embrace tech and the internet.
\n
We now need more computer brains than ever. Just the switch into telecommuting alone is a big boost. This is not to mention all the electronic infrastructure to make it happen. Crypto and NFT are strong trends, and they too are driving demand for smart machines.
\n
Clearly the AMD fundamental thesis is as close to a slam dunk as it gets. The next bit will be evaluating its value.
\n
AMD Stock Is a Bit Too Hot
\n
Spending is not my concern here because they are delivering astonishing growth. They can’t do that while cinching their purses. Price-to-sales is an honest measure of value for growth stocks. AMD’s is now approaching 11, which is 30% more expensive than October. So investor expectations are perhaps growing too fast.
\n
I’m not recommending shorting the stock, because it’s not extravagantly expensive. Fast growers demand higher valuations. But it is getting rich relative to its own self. The stock price needs time to consolidate, so that the P/S metric normalizes a bit.
\n
Among its peers, AMD value is right in the middle of Nvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA) and Intel(NASDAQ:INTC). Its 45 P/E is less than half of NVDA and its P/S is one third. Clearly it’s not an outlier among the bunch. Intel is the cheapest of the three, but for now let’s leave it out of the conversation. INTC value is a low outlier, so we shouldn’t penalize AMD for it.
\n
Let’s put some perspective on how we got to these stratospheric levels. AMD stock went into the pandemic from an all-time high 75% higher than August 2019. Then, after a brief pandemic collapse, investors stepped into it with a vengeance. From the March 2020 low to this November high they rallied 354%. So the latest 20% correction was merely a scratch on the paint job.
\n
Patience Is Important Now
\n
Source: Charts by TradingView
\n
From an investment perspective, I would much rather get into the stock under $122 per share. I realize I may have to wait a bit, but there are plenty of stocks to trade meanwhile. Active traders can make use of the shorter-term trading opportunities within AMD too. Shorter-term profit potential is easy with such momentum stocks. There is support at $130 and resistance above. If it loses footing then I will get my chance.
\n
The small-caps have shown extreme weakness of late. Conversely the S&P and the Nasdaq are ready to rally another 15% from here. This shouldn’t happen unless the small-caps also join the party. So, this week we should focus on that to determine the likelihood of another leg higher in the market. If so, then owning AMD stock now would make short-term sense.
\n
In reality, the markets should meander a bit sideways to consolidate. This would be healthy for AMD and other fast runners. You couldn’t guess it from looking at the scoreboard. Because the S&P 500 broke records once more this morning. Clearly investor confidence is waning, but not their risk appetites. Equities like Advanced Micro Devices(NASDAQ:AMD) stock are now miles higher than last year.\nThis makes it difficult for those who are true fans of the stock. Under the leadership of Lisa Sue, the company has improved its financial situation tremendously.\nInvestors have consequently rewarded AMD through buying its stock, but therein lies the problem. Today’s note carries a cautionary tone, but not against the company prospects. My concern is about the timing for those looking for new investments.\nI have no issues with their fundamental success, since demand for tech is increasing at an exponential rate. There is no doubt that chip company services have a long runway ahead. The pandemic sealed that deal, so there are no more holdouts. Everyone had to embrace tech and the internet.\nWe now need more computer brains than ever. Just the switch into telecommuting alone is a big boost. This is not to mention all the electronic infrastructure to make it happen. Crypto and NFT are strong trends, and they too are driving demand for smart machines.\nClearly the AMD fundamental thesis is as close to a slam dunk as it gets. The next bit will be evaluating its value.\nAMD Stock Is a Bit Too Hot\nSpending is not my concern here because they are delivering astonishing growth. They can’t do that while cinching their purses. Price-to-sales is an honest measure of value for growth stocks. AMD’s is now approaching 11, which is 30% more expensive than October. So investor expectations are perhaps growing too fast.\nI’m not recommending shorting the stock, because it’s not extravagantly expensive. Fast growers demand higher valuations. But it is getting rich relative to its own self. The stock price needs time to consolidate, so that the P/S metric normalizes a bit.\nAmong its peers, AMD value is right in the middle of Nvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA) and Intel(NASDAQ:INTC). Its 45 P/E is less than half of NVDA and its P/S is one third. Clearly it’s not an outlier among the bunch. Intel is the cheapest of the three, but for now let’s leave it out of the conversation. INTC value is a low outlier, so we shouldn’t penalize AMD for it.\nLet’s put some perspective on how we got to these stratospheric levels. AMD stock went into the pandemic from an all-time high 75% higher than August 2019. Then, after a brief pandemic collapse, investors stepped into it with a vengeance. From the March 2020 low to this November high they rallied 354%. So the latest 20% correction was merely a scratch on the paint job.\nPatience Is Important Now\nSource: Charts by TradingView\nFrom an investment perspective, I would much rather get into the stock under $122 per share. I realize I may have to wait a bit, but there are plenty of stocks to trade meanwhile. Active traders can make use of the shorter-term trading opportunities within AMD too. Shorter-term profit potential is easy with such momentum stocks. There is support at $130 and resistance above. If it loses footing then I will get my chance.\nThe small-caps have shown extreme weakness of late. Conversely the S&P and the Nasdaq are ready to rally another 15% from here. This shouldn’t happen unless the small-caps also join the party. So, this week we should focus on that to determine the likelihood of another leg higher in the market. If so, then owning AMD stock now would make short-term sense.\nIn reality, the markets should meander a bit sideways to consolidate. This would be healthy for AMD and other fast runners. There is no urgency to load up on a full-size positions, even in great stocks like this one.\nMy intentions today were not to be negative about the company. I am merely trying to avoid the easy mistakes when possible. AMD stock now does not present an obvious point of entry, but it will follow the market up.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":488,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9000408591,"gmtCreate":1640250901444,"gmtModify":1676533511871,"author":{"id":"3570648900006145","authorId":"3570648900006145","name":"Jkjustea","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/13ede8636aa19964235c8150bb8e0592","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570648900006145","authorIdStr":"3570648900006145"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi","listText":"Hi","text":"Hi","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9000408591","repostId":"1111942278","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1111942278","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1640250064,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1111942278?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-12-23 17:01","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"JD shares dropped more than 9% in premarket trading.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1111942278","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"JD shares dropped more than 9% in premarket trading.\n\nTencent Holdings Ltd.plans to distribute more ","content":"
JD shares dropped more than 9% in premarket trading.
\n

\n
Tencent Holdings Ltd.plans to distribute more than $16 billion ofJD.com Inc.shares as a one-time dividend, representing a near-retreat from the Chinese e-commerce firm that is stoking concerns it will pull away from other marquee investments.
\n
Tencent plans to give out 457.3 million Class A shares in JD.com, representing about 86.4% of its total stake and nearly 15% of the online retailer’s total issued shares, according to a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange. It surged to an all time high of $483 last week but appeared to run out of steam Monday, falling well below its Friday close of $325.\nThe stock closed at $17.25 on Jan. 4, the first trading day of 2021.\n2021.\n1. Call options cost trends\nWhen viewing a stock that's had a long speculative run, it's important to look at the call options on the stock when it stops moving higher, said Julian Emanuel, chief equity and derivatives strategist at BTIG.\nCall options, which allow but don't require investors to buy at a certain price, are basically bets the stock will continue to rise. Aggressive buying in those options can help speculative stocks go even higher until the options themselves become too expensive.\n\"The high price of the options themselves are likely to cause the stock to top and then sell-off or at least go sideways and ultimately sell off as the speculative mania moves on to different areas,\" said Emanuel. \"We're seeing this today in silver.\"\nSilver has been the target of aggressive buying and has also caught the interest of traders in the Reddit forum WallStreetBets.iShares Silver Trust ETFjumped 7.1% Monday and call buying continued to surge at record levels in the ETF.\nRetail investors have been very active in options, opening and closing positions in the same day in many speculative stocks. As for GameStop, Emanuel said the calls appear to have become too expensive to remain a source of further upside for the stock.\nFor instance, the at-the-money Feb. 19 call options — that is, an option with a strike price that's identical to the company's current share price — in GameStop at Friday's close cost about 50% of the company's actual share price, Emanuel said.\nTo give that perspective, the S&P 500 Feb. 19 at-the-money options cost just 2.5% of the S&P's value.\n\"It's difficult to maintain a level of speculative interest when it becomes too expensive to buy call options,\" said Emanuel.\n2. Reduced demand\nTwo other factors depressing the stock are the reduction in short interest as investors were forced to cover shorts, and that brokers have restricted buying in GameStop, Emanuel added. That takes away an important source of demand, and speculative investors become less interested, he said.\n\"It seems the Reddit army is moving into a different area,\" said Chris Murphy, co-head of derivatives strategy at Susquehanna International Group. \"The stock is going down and the volatility goes down.\"\n\"Usually when a stock goes down, volatility goes up,\" he said. \"In this instance, as people leave and move into other areas, you're going to see the stock price and volatility go down.\"\nThe 30-day implied volatility in GameStop options on Friday was 430% but it declined to 375% and continues to fall, Murphy said. Implied volatility measures the expected swing in a stock's price.\nThat means investors are now expecting a move as big as 23% in the stock in one day in either direction, down from 27% on Friday.\nOf course, GameStop has also been affected by trading restrictions.\nRobinhood and other online brokers last week limited buying in GameStop, but allowed investors to sell. Brokers raised margin requirements on GameStop and some other stocks.\nIt's very hard to tell whether GameStop was near a top because of restrictions on the stock, said Steve Massocca, managing director with Wedbush Securities.\n\"When you tell people they can't buy but can only sell, of course it usually goes in one direction,\" he said.\nRobinhood on Monday continued to prohibit clientswho own more than 20 shares of GameStop from buying any new shares.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":221,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3571630433284403","authorId":"3571630433284403","name":"cHao7","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3800b5d66328f3184368a219227b02a3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3571630433284403","authorIdStr":"3571630433284403"},"content":"long with money you can afford to lose","text":"long with money you can afford to lose","html":"long with money you can afford to lose"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":312073115,"gmtCreate":1611981194737,"gmtModify":1704866789093,"author":{"id":"3570648900006145","authorId":"3570648900006145","name":"Jkjustea","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/13ede8636aa19964235c8150bb8e0592","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570648900006145","authorIdStr":"3570648900006145"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bank run","listText":"Bank run","text":"Bank run","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/312073115","repostId":"1137182252","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1137182252","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1611909009,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1137182252?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-01-29 16:30","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"Robinhood Raises $1 Billion in Dash for Cash After Trader Revolt","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1137182252","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"New York markets had just fired up, and the investing world was tuning in for Thursday’s episode of ","content":"
New York markets had just fired up, and the investing world was tuning in for Thursday’s episode of the continuing drama: Legions ofRobinhood Marketsinvestors versus hedge-fund Goliaths.

But within minutes, a shock wave invisible to the outside world rattled the mechanics of Wall Street -- sending Robinhood rushing for more than $1 billion of additional cash.
