All three investments I figured would be in for a rough few trading days moved sharply higher. The three names I thought were going to move lower for the week -- Alibaba, Tesla, and Nordstrom -- finished up 8%, 14%, and 25%, respectively, averaging out to a 15.7% gain. Ouch!

The S&P 500 soared 6.6% for the week, but naturally the stocks I figured would fare worse did not. I was wrong, but I have still been right in 22 of the past 32 weeks.

I see GameStop (GME 6.81%), ChargePointĀ (CHPT 13.89%), and Conn's (CONN -1.53%) as stocks you may want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.

GameStop

The original meme stock is rolling again. Shares of the video game retailer soared 54% -- yes, 54% -- in the last three trading days. What can possibly get in the way of a meme stock mowing down its short sellers? Earnings season. GameStop shares have declined the trading day after reporting earnings in 11 of the past 14 quarters. Some of the slides have been fairly substantial, even last year when GameStop was off to the races. The retailer will peel back the curtain on its fiscal first quarter results on Wednesday afternoon.

GameStop's performance when it has fresh financials to put out has been sobering. It has posted a larger-than-expected loss for three consecutive quarters. The $1.32 billion analysts are forecasting in revenue is a small year-over-year increase, but 15% below its top-line results three years ago in its last pre-pandemic fiscal first quarter. More importantly, the stock was in the single digits at the time.

GameStop is making some interesting moves in NFTs and crypto, but those markets have also been hit hard in recent months. GameStop is going to need a strong report to justify last week's gains. History tells us that you probably don't want to bet on that.

ChargePoint

There's no doubt that the electric-vehicle market will have years of explosive growth, but it's probably too early to bet on the growing number of companies that are providing charging stations. It could be a race to the bottom, and players building out their networks now may never turn a profit. Analysts don't see ChargePoint in the black until 2026, and by then the market will probably be far more cutthroat than it is now.

ChargePoint reports fresh financials after Tuesday's market close. Momentum hasn't been kind. It has posted larger losses than analysts were targeting in back-to-back quarters. Wall Street pros have been widening their expected deficits for the quarter it will discuss on Tuesday as well as the current fiscal year.

Conn's

Let's close out the list with yet another name reporting quarterly results this week. Wednesday morning is when Conn's steps up to the plate. The big-box retailer that sells furniture, appliances, and consumer electronics could be in for a rough financial update. We've already seen a few retailers warn that guests have been shifting their spending away form big-ticket home items. Conn's also had the problematic distinction of missing Wall Street estimates on both ends of its income statement last time out.

The stock tumbled 26% in the four trading days following its last report. I was wrong, but I have still been right in 22 of the past 32 weeks.I see GameStop (GME 6.81%), ChargePointĀ (CHPT 13.89%), and Conn's (CONN -1.53%) as stocks you may want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.Image source: Getty Images.GameStopThe original meme stock is rolling again. The retailer will peel back the curtain on its fiscal first quarter results on Wednesday afternoon.GameStop's performance when it has fresh financials to put out has been sobering. It has posted a larger-than-expected loss for three consecutive quarters. The $1.32 billion analysts are forecasting in revenue is a small year-over-year increase, but 15% below its top-line results three years ago in its last pre-pandemic fiscal first quarter. More importantly, the stock was in the single digits at the time.GameStop is making some interesting moves in NFTs and crypto, but those markets have also been hit hard in recent months. GameStop is going to need a strong report to justify last week's gains. History tells us that you probably don't want to bet on that.ChargePointThere's no doubt that the electric-vehicle market will have years of explosive growth, but it's probably too early to bet on the growing number of companies that are providing charging stations. It could be a race to the bottom, and players building out their networks now may never turn a profit. Analysts don't see ChargePoint in the black until 2026, and by then the market will probably be far more cutthroat than it is now.ChargePoint reports fresh financials after Tuesday's market close. Momentum hasn't been kind. It has posted larger losses than analysts were targeting in back-to-back quarters. Wall Street pros have been widening their expected deficits for the quarter it will discuss on Tuesday as well as the current fiscal year.Conn'sLet's close out the list with yet another name reporting quarterly results this week. Wednesday morning is when Conn's steps up to the plate. The big-box retailer that sells furniture, appliances, and consumer electronics could be in for a rough financial update. We've already seen a few retailers warn that guests have been shifting their spending away form big-ticket home items. Conn's also had the problematic distinction of missing Wall Street estimates on both ends of its income statement last time out.The stock tumbled 26% in the four trading days following its last report. Is there any reason to expect that Conn's will fare any better in a climate that has grown even more challenging? It could be a tough week for the retailer. It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in GameStop, ChargePoint, or Conn's this week.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":365,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9025694222,"gmtCreate":1653667557166,"gmtModify":1676535324355,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š","listText":"š","text":"š","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9025694222","repostId":"2238654869","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":141,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9022155462,"gmtCreate":1653496509056,"gmtModify":1676535292489,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š","listText":"š","text":"š","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9022155462","repostId":"2238562497","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":96,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9026380095,"gmtCreate":1653330352417,"gmtModify":1676535261014,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š","listText":"š","text":"š","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9026380095","repostId":"1177332159","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":165,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9021227169,"gmtCreate":1653062072452,"gmtModify":1676535217179,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š ","listText":"š ","text":"š ","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9021227169","repostId":"1190645914","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":138,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9021029673,"gmtCreate":1652976087592,"gmtModify":1676535200335,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š","listText":"š","text":"š","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9021029673","repostId":"1184644801","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184644801","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1652974056,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1184644801?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-19 23:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Stocks Mixed in Morning Trading, Nasdaq Rose Nearly 0.5% While Dow Jones Slid Over 200 Points","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184644801","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stocks mixed in morning trading.Ā Nasdaq rose 0.46%,Ā whileĀ DowĀ Jones,Ā S&PĀ 500Ā lostĀ 280.76Ā points","content":"

U.S. stocks mixed in morning trading.Ā Nasdaq rose 0.46%,Ā whileĀ DowĀ Jones,Ā S&PĀ 500Ā lostĀ 280.76Ā pointsĀ andĀ 16.38Ā pointsĀ separately.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Citigroupās model that forecasts the chances that stocks will head into a bear market shows that the market looks like more of a buy right now.

TheĀ iShares MSCI ACWI exchange-traded fundĀ (ACWI) has dropped about 14% this year, and for the same reasons theĀ S&P 500Ā andĀ Dow Jones Industrial AverageĀ have fallen as well: High inflation, made worse by commodity restrictions resulting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has hurt consumer demand; cost inflation has dented companiesā profit margins; central banks are tightening monetary policy to reduce inflation, moves that will further slow economic growth.

These issues, which the market is still trying to come to terms with, have recently kept many on Wall Street from recommending stocks. Some market technicians, for instance, recently said the S&P 500 could fall another 10% or more even from its relatively low level.

But the global equity strategists at Citi have a model, a ābear market checklist,ā that currently says buying the market appears relatively safe right now. The model considers 18 subfactors within the broader categories of valuations, bond market indicters, investor sentiment, corporate decisions and financing, profitability, and balance sheets. When close to all 18 subfactors are flashing sell signals, it often means a bear marketādefined as a 20% dropāis coming. Fortunately right now, only six of the 18 factors are flashing sell signals. āOur global Bear Market Checklist wants to buy this dip,ā writes Robert Buckland, equity strategist at Citi.

For reference, the current number of sell signals is well below previous readings that preceded bear markets. In March of 2000, 17.5 of the factors indicated a sell, just before a bear market. In October of 2007, 13 signals showed sell just before a bear market.

Hereās a look at where the signals stand now. First, a few of the negative signals:

The first ominous sign is the yield curve. The 10-year Treasury yield is just 0.27 percentage points above the 2-year yield. Thatās down from a 0.78 percentage point difference to start this year. The narrowing difference means that short-term yields have risen faster than longer-term yields. Currently, that reflects that higher inflation and interest rates today will damage economic demand.

The other noteworthy sell signal is analyst stock recommendations, which are too bullish for the moment. In fact, aggregate 2022 analyst earnings per share expectations for companies on the MSCI ACWI ETF have risen 2.6% year-to-date, according to FactSet. Thatās partly because companies have largely beaten profit forecasts to start the year, and the exact impact of higher rates and inflation on future sales is hard for company analysts to quantify at this stage. So earnings estimates, in time, could come down.

But there are a host of other positive indicators, 12 of them to be exact. To be sure, the risks to the economy and earnings havenāt gone away, but they may be reflected in stock prices already. Meanwhile, data like improving flows of money into equity funds are signs that buyers are coming back into the market.

At the very least, it makes some sense to buy a few shares of companies here and there.

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Citi Says Itās Finally Time to Start Buying Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Citi Says Itās Finally Time to Start Buying Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-05-27 23:31 GMT+8 Barrons\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Itās been a long slog this year for the plummeting stock market. The stock traded at less than $90 per share in early 2020, and ran as high as $1,243 before sliding more than 40% in this bear market.

Such a big decline seems like an obvious "buy-the-dip" opportunity, but investors should consider the following before doing so.

Shining a light on free cash flow

Look at any earnings report and revenue and earnings-per-share (EPS) typically dominate the headlines. But don't underestimate the importance of free cash flow; it's the lifeblood of a business. It pays for the growth, dividends, and share repurchases that investors love. Meanwhile, bottom-line earnings can be deceiving because there could be non-cash items that skew the numbers.

Many investors see Tesla as more than a car company; some consider it a technology company for its work with artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. It's also branched into other segments like solar and energy storage and insurance.

Regardless of your opinion on labeling Tesla, investors can look at the business through a simple lens -- how good is the business at generating cold, hard cash? You can see below that Tesla is essentially as good as Ford at converting revenue into free cash flow. Both companies get about $0.07 of free cash flow from every sales dollar, and it's been about equal for three years and running.

TSLA Free Cash Flow (% of Annual Revenues) data by YCharts

What premium does Tesla deserve?

Investors can take it a step further and use free cash flow to value the stock by looking at how much they're paying for that cash flow. The chart below shows the difference in valuation between Tesla and Ford, using the price-to-free cash flow ratio, which is similar to the price-to-earnings ratioĀ but substitutes free cash flow for bottom-line profits. Despite Tesla's valuation falling dramatically, it remains about nine times as expensive (ratio of 108 to Ford's 13).

TSLA Price to Free Cash Flow data by YCharts

Consider some important things: First, Tesla is a faster-growing company than Ford. Tesla's grown revenue an average of 50% annually over the past five years, while Ford's revenue growth has been negative 2% over the same time. Additionally, Tesla is the first-mover and market share leader in the electric category, which seems to be the industry's long-term future.

I think it's an easy argument that Tesla stock should be more expensive than Ford's. Still, it's unclear just what that premium should be. Perhaps Tesla's growth eventually helps the business generate cash flow more efficiently than Ford. Maybe autonomous driving will become a big deal for Tesla, and it will add a lot of highly profitable revenue to the company. While these things might happen, the company right now is equally as efficient at creating cash profits as Ford, no matter how you label Tesla.

Tesla's enjoyed a first-mover advantage thus far in its history, but the industry shifting to electric could negate that over time. Competitors like Ford are well-capitalized and investing heavily to catch up in areas like battery technology and autonomous driving capabilities. Investors need to be careful paying up for a stock because "it's pricing in future success" because that future isn't necessarily guaranteed.

Investor takeaway

Nobody knows what the market will eventually arrive at for Tesla's long-term valuation. The stock could keep falling quite a bit further if the market determines that Tesla should be valued more like a traditional automaker like Ford. It's equally possible that shares bounce and retake new highs.

Investors should approach the stock cautiously since you can't know where the share price will go. A dollar-cost averaging strategy can be beneficial, because you would buy chunks of shares slowly over time. If the stock soars, great -- you've been adding on the way up. If Tesla falls further for a while, you'll be lowering your total average cost as you go. The stock traded at less than $90 per share in early 2020, and ran as high as $1,243 before sliding more than 40% in this bear market.Such a big decline seems like an obvious \"buy-the-dip\" opportunity, but investors should consider the following before doing so.Shining a light on free cash flowLook at any earnings report and revenue and earnings-per-share (EPS) typically dominate the headlines. But don't underestimate the importance of free cash flow; it's the lifeblood of a business. It pays for the growth, dividends, and share repurchases that investors love. Meanwhile, bottom-line earnings can be deceiving because there could be non-cash items that skew the numbers.Image Source: Getty Images. Many investors see Tesla as more than a car company; some consider it a technology company for its work with artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. It's also branched into other segments like solar and energy storage and insurance.Regardless of your opinion on labeling Tesla, investors can look at the business through a simple lens -- how good is the business at generating cold, hard cash? You can see below that Tesla is essentially as good as Ford at converting revenue into free cash flow. Both companies get about $0.07 of free cash flow from every sales dollar, and it's been about equal for three years and running.TSLA Free Cash Flow (% of Annual Revenues) data by YChartsWhat premium does Tesla deserve?Investors can take it a step further and use free cash flow to value the stock by looking at how much they're paying for that cash flow. The chart below shows the difference in valuation between Tesla and Ford, using the price-to-free cash flow ratio, which is similar to the price-to-earnings ratioĀ but substitutes free cash flow for bottom-line profits. Despite Tesla's valuation falling dramatically, it remains about nine times as expensive (ratio of 108 to Ford's 13).TSLA Price to Free Cash Flow data by YChartsConsider some important things: First, Tesla is a faster-growing company than Ford. Tesla's grown revenue an average of 50% annually over the past five years, while Ford's revenue growth has been negative 2% over the same time. Additionally, Tesla is the first-mover and market share leader in the electric category, which seems to be the industry's long-term future.I think it's an easy argument that Tesla stock should be more expensive than Ford's. Still, it's unclear just what that premium should be. Perhaps Tesla's growth eventually helps the business generate cash flow more efficiently than Ford. Maybe autonomous driving will become a big deal for Tesla, and it will add a lot of highly profitable revenue to the company. While these things might happen, the company right now is equally as efficient at creating cash profits as Ford, no matter how you label Tesla.Tesla's enjoyed a first-mover advantage thus far in its history, but the industry shifting to electric could negate that over time. Competitors like Ford are well-capitalized and investing heavily to catch up in areas like battery technology and autonomous driving capabilities. Investors need to be careful paying up for a stock because \"it's pricing in future success\" because that future isn't necessarily guaranteed.Investor takeawayNobody knows what the market will eventually arrive at for Tesla's long-term valuation. The stock could keep falling quite a bit further if the market determines that Tesla should be valued more like a traditional automaker like Ford. It's equally possible that shares bounce and retake new highs.Investors should approach the stock cautiously since you can't know where the share price will go. A dollar-cost averaging strategy can be beneficial, because you would buy chunks of shares slowly over time. If the stock soars, great -- you've been adding on the way up. If Tesla falls further for a while, you'll be lowering your total average cost as you go. It's a win-win for investors.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":96,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9023835000,"gmtCreate":1652891105400,"gmtModify":1676535182707,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"š","listText":"š","text":"š","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9023835000","repostId":"1108643819","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":216,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9029572790,"gmtCreate":1652806111510,"gmtModify":1676535165261,"author":{"id":"3571702644979812","authorId":"3571702644979812","name":"leongshen","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571702644979812","authorIdStr":"3571702644979812"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"šš","listText":"šš","text":"šš","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9029572790","repostId":"1161809441","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1161809441","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1652801277,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1161809441?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-17 23:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Stocks Remained High in Morning Trading, Nasdaq Index and S&P500 Surged Over 1%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1161809441","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. Stocks Remained High in Morning Trading.Ā DowĀ JonesĀ roseĀ 0.62%,Ā whileĀ Nasdaq,Ā S&PĀ 500Ā roseĀ 1.52%","content":"

U.S. Stocks Remained High in Morning Trading.Ā DowĀ JonesĀ roseĀ 0.62%,Ā whileĀ Nasdaq,Ā S&PĀ 500Ā roseĀ 1.52%Ā andĀ 1.17%Ā separately.Ā

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
