Stocks Can Still Go Up","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197233389","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"It all depends on earnings fulfilling rosy expectations.\nSomehow or other, the U.S. stock market is ","content":"
It all depends on earnings fulfilling rosy expectations.
\n
Somehow or other, the U.S. stock market is at yet another all-time high. The S&P 500 has risen 91.3% from its Covid panic low last March. With the year not quite half gone, it is up 14%. These are very impressive results, particularly with the latest consumer price index data showing the worst inflation in main street prices in almost three decades.
\n
The U.S. is also running a long way ahead of the rest of the world. The MSCI World Excluding the U.S. index is somewhat below the high it set earlier in June. In the long run, the difference between the two is extraordinary. It was only a couple of weeks ago that the world excluding the U.S. topped its previous all-time high, set on the ominous date of Oct. 31, 2007. As of Friday’s close, the index is 0.18% higher than it was on Halloween 14 years ago. I couldn’t be bothered to get the Bloomberg terminal to calculate that as an annualized rate. Here is how the indexes have compared since that pre-global financial crisis peak:
\n

\n
There are some obvious explanations for this. All the biggest winners from the growth of the internet and online commerce have been American; the euro zone inflicted the sovereign debt crisis on itself for much of the last decade; the Federal Reserve was far faster and more enthusiastic to prime the pump with quantitative easing asset purchases. But still, the U.S. economy continues to cause great discontent amid the population at large, and it’s not as though the rest of the world has suffered anything like the Great Depression, outside small pockets such as Greece.
\n
If there is a long-term driver, it is corporate earnings. The following remarkable chart comes from Doug Ramsey of the Leuthold Group in Minneapolis:
\n

\n
Since that Halloween peak, there has been an astounding 90% correlation between different countries’ growth in earnings per share and the change in the value of their stock markets (as measured by MSCI). And, almost equally astoundingly, most developed countries have seen earnings fall over the last 14 years. That means that the U.S. has performed much better than the rest. The only country to come close is Denmark (powered by Novo Nordisk A/S, which has increased sixfold since Halloween 2007).
\n
Overall, earnings are down outside the U.S., including developed and emerging markets. This is the same chart I began with, but this time showing Bloomberg’s estimate of forward earnings, rather than share prices. The two charts do look similar:
\n

\n
Ramsey points out that a weakening currency will make U.S. companies’ profits look even better in dollar terms, so the dominance is unlikely to be shaken any time soon. But the broader point remains:
\n
\n We often joke about the over-optimism of earnings forecasts, but this is ridiculous. In 2021 - with much of the world engaged in QE for a decade or longer and short-term interest rates either at, near, or below zero — most countries are struggling to put up earnings per share levels that analysts once deemed likely for 2008.\n
\n
How to explain this? Plainly, this speaks to excruciatingly poor economic performance in much of the world. This may not have been a depression, but growth has been slow since the crisis. There is also an anti-American argument for the many people who want to make it. U.S. authorities have allowed a number of internet groups to buy up their competitors and become deeply entrenched, and they are now busily eating up profits that would once have accrued to companies in other countries. It’s no wonder that European competition authorities are getting aggressive about this. And there is a positive American argument: The internet, which originated in the U.S. military-industrial complex, has allowed corporate America to innovate and grow in a way that has eluded everyone else.
\n
Leaving that long-term argument to one side, the short-term implication is that even if price-earnings ratios look extremely high (which they do, particularly in the U.S.), it is plenty possible for share prices to rise even as multiples fall, if profits keep expanding. This chart of global equity returns is from Ian Harnett of Absolute Strategy Research Ltd. in London. It decomposes growth due to dividends, earnings growth, and multiple expansion. Over the last 12 months, in which equities have somehow returned 39.7%, widening P/E ratios have accounted for most of the gain:
\n

\n
It is only rational to assume that valuations will come down. However, the experience of 2010-2011, highlighted in the chart, shows that it’s still possible for stock markets to gain in these circumstances. The start of that period was a messy year filled with gloom over currency debasement, the debt-ceiling row in the U.S., and the beginning of the euro-zone debt crisis; but earnings still grew by enough to counterbalance the fall in multiples, and stocks rose. A “benign compression” in valuations can happen. If we suffer a liquidity shock or another unexpected blow from the pandemic (of which more below), then valuations make it very hard for stocks to make more progress. But there is a possibility of growth from here.
\n
To end with a note of caution, however, Absolute Strategy also breaks down global equity returns since 1975 into earnings and multiple expansion. Differences in earnings in the post-crisis era have determined which markets have won and which have lost, but in the longer term, multiples have been far more influential in driving returns.
\n

\n
The bottom line? Earnings season, three weeks away now, probably matters more for stock prices than the rash of macro data that will start at the end of this week with ISM surveys and U.S. non-farm payrolls. There had better not be too many negative surprises. With valuations so high, it behooves everyone to be aware of the risks of a fall. But it also behooves those (like me) who’ve been warning about the risks of excessive valuations to accept that there’s still a way that markets could gain further from here, if earnings fulfill rosy expectations.
\n
Cautionary Tale From Home
\n
The most dangerous risks are the ones we don’t understand, or don’t see. All of us, including plenty with medical knowledge, have learned what we don’t know about infectious diseases and their effects on the economy over the last 18 months. So I offer the following case with due humility. It would seriously be a good idea to keep an eye on the pandemic in the U.K. in the next few weeks. This is how the trend in daily cases has moved since the beginning of the outbreak last year:
\n

\n
Obviously, the rise in infections should concern everyone. To recap, the U.K. proved to be a test experiment first on the British variant, then on being the first developed country to execute a successful mass vaccination program, and is now the first developed country to host an outbreak of the delta variant. A big vaccination campaign hasn’t stopped another wave of infections and hospitalizations. So far it hasn’t led to a significant rise in deaths:
\n

\n
What do we need to learn in the next few weeks? The disaster scenario involves the variant gaining further in strength, and hospitalizing and killing more people — even if they have been fully vaccinated, as a significant proportion of current patients have been. If deaths stay this low, and the variant doesn't inflict long-term negative consequences on patients, it could almost be seen as good news; the vaccination campaign has saved the lives of the most vulnerable, and the latest outbreak is most serious among younger people who are less likely to be vaccinated, and also less likely to be in mortal danger. This could be the final stage toward reaching “herd immunity” for the U.K.
\n
One alarming implication of the U.K. experience, however, is that even a massive vaccination campaign doesn’t get us to herd immunity. At one point there were optimistic projections that only about a quarter of people needed to be infected or vaccinated. Now it looks as though that number is much, much higher. And the longer we wait for herd immunity, the longer the virus has a chance to develop new variants, which may prove resistant to vaccines.
\n
As it stands, the base scenario, which many are beginning to regard as a certainty, is that the pandemic is on its last legs. That is still a reasonable prospect. But the British experience has already had real world economic effects. Reopening has been postponed for a month, and the Bank of England might well have tapered its support for markets last month had it not been for this renewed outbreak. You need to squint to see the changes from last week, as there haven’t been many new economic releases. In brief, market breakevens turned up a little, as did commodity prices, to make up for the overreaction to the Federal Open Market Committee meeting the week before. This leaves most of them plumb in the middle of their range for the last 10 years. Among raw material prices, lumber futures are fast coming back down to earth, as predicted and hoped by many, while the CRB RIND index, second from right in the raw-material prices row, continues to rise. This is of interest because it covers commodities that aren’t available on futures markets, and therefore should be a purer representation of demand and supply pressures, and not affected by swings in sentiment about the Fed.
\n
The one serious extreme square is rental car inflation. It would be disconcerting if that cell weren’t much paler blue after the next CPI data. The S&P 500 has risen 91.3% from its Covid panic low last March. With the year not quite half gone, it is up 14%. These are very impressive results, particularly with the latest consumer price index data showing the worst inflation in main street prices in almost three decades.\nThe U.S. is also running a long way ahead of the rest of the world. Here is how the indexes have compared since that pre-global financial crisis peak:\n\nThere are some obvious explanations for this. All the biggest winners from the growth of the internet and online commerce have been American; the euro zone inflicted the sovereign debt crisis on itself for much of the last decade; the Federal Reserve was far faster and more enthusiastic to prime the pump with quantitative easing asset purchases. But still, the U.S. economy continues to cause great discontent amid the population at large, and it’s not as though the rest of the world has suffered anything like the Great Depression, outside small pockets such as Greece.\nIf there is a long-term driver, it is corporate earnings. The following remarkable chart comes from Doug Ramsey of the Leuthold Group in Minneapolis:\n\nSince that Halloween peak, there has been an astounding 90% correlation between different countries’ growth in earnings per share and the change in the value of their stock markets (as measured by MSCI). And, almost equally astoundingly, most developed countries have seen earnings fall over the last 14 years. That means that the U.S. has performed much better than the rest. The only country to come close is Denmark (powered by Novo Nordisk A/S, which has increased sixfold since Halloween 2007).\nOverall, earnings are down outside the U.S., including developed and emerging markets. This is the same chart I began with, but this time showing Bloomberg’s estimate of forward earnings, rather than share prices. The two charts do look similar:\n\nRamsey points out that a weakening currency will make U.S. companies’ profits look even better in dollar terms, so the dominance is unlikely to be shaken any time soon. But the broader point remains:\n\nWe often joke about the over-optimism of earnings forecasts, but this is ridiculous. In 2021 - with much of the world engaged in QE for a decade or longer and short-term interest rates either at, near, or below zero — most countries are struggling to put up earnings per share levels that analysts once deemed likely for 2008.\n\nHow to explain this? Plainly, this speaks to excruciatingly poor economic performance in much of the world. This may not have been a depression, but growth has been slow since the crisis. There is also an anti-American argument for the many people who want to make it. U.S. authorities have allowed a number of internet groups to buy up their competitors and become deeply entrenched, and they are now busily eating up profits that would once have accrued to companies in other countries. It’s no wonder that European competition authorities are getting aggressive about this. And there is a positive American argument: The internet, which originated in the U.S. military-industrial complex, has allowed corporate America to innovate and grow in a way that has eluded everyone else.\nLeaving that long-term argument to one side, the short-term implication is that even if price-earnings ratios look extremely high (which they do, particularly in the U.S.), it is plenty possible for share prices to rise even as multiples fall, if profits keep expanding. This chart of global equity returns is from Ian Harnett of Absolute Strategy Research Ltd. in London. It decomposes growth due to dividends, earnings growth, and multiple expansion. Over the last 12 months, in which equities have somehow returned 39.7%, widening P/E ratios have accounted for most of the gain:\n\nIt is only rational to assume that valuations will come down. But there is a possibility of growth from here.\nTo end with a note of caution, however, Absolute Strategy also breaks down global equity returns since 1975 into earnings and multiple expansion. Differences in earnings in the post-crisis era have determined which markets have won and which have lost, but in the longer term, multiples have been far more influential in driving returns.\n\nThe bottom line? Earnings season, three weeks away now, probably matters more for stock prices than the rash of macro data that will start at the end of this week with ISM surveys and U.S. non-farm payrolls. There had better not be too many negative surprises. With valuations so high, it behooves everyone to be aware of the risks of a fall. But it also behooves those (like me) who’ve been warning about the risks of excessive valuations to accept that there’s still a way that markets could gain further from here, if earnings fulfill rosy expectations.\nCautionary Tale From Home\nThe most dangerous risks are the ones we don’t understand, or don’t see. All of us, including plenty with medical knowledge, have learned what we don’t know about infectious diseases and their effects on the economy over the last 18 months. So I offer the following case with due humility. It would seriously be a good idea to keep an eye on the pandemic in the U.K. in the next few weeks. This is how the trend in daily cases has moved since the beginning of the outbreak last year:\n\nObviously, the rise in infections should concern everyone. So far it hasn’t led to a significant rise in deaths:\n\nWhat do we need to learn in the next few weeks? The disaster scenario involves the variant gaining further in strength, and hospitalizing and killing more people — even if they have been fully vaccinated, as a significant proportion of current patients have been. If deaths stay this low, and the variant doesn't inflict long-term negative consequences on patients, it could almost be seen as good news; the vaccination campaign has saved the lives of the most vulnerable, and the latest outbreak is most serious among younger people who are less likely to be vaccinated, and also less likely to be in mortal danger. This could be the final stage toward reaching “herd immunity” for the U.K.\nOne alarming implication of the U.K. experience, however, is that even a massive vaccination campaign doesn’t get us to herd immunity. At one point there were optimistic projections that only about a quarter of people needed to be infected or vaccinated. Now it looks as though that number is much, much higher. And the longer we wait for herd immunity, the longer the virus has a chance to develop new variants, which may prove resistant to vaccines.\nAs it stands, the base scenario, which many are beginning to regard as a certainty, is that the pandemic is on its last legs. That is still a reasonable prospect. But the British experience has already had real world economic effects. Reopening has been postponed for a month, and the Bank of England might well have tapered its support for markets last month had it not been for this renewed outbreak. There is no reason for terror, but every reason for investors to keep a close eye on Covid figures, particularly for now in the U.K.\nAuthers Indicators\nThe latest update of Authers Indicators (the glorious name, which wasn’t my idea, for our inflation heat map) ishere. You need to squint to see the changes from last week, as there haven’t been many new economic releases. This is totally fine unless it grows its active buyers through marketing, which unfortunately has not been the case. This is a red flag and questions the long-term sustainability of Wish's business model. However, the company has been close to being cash flow positive, and it stated it already would be profitable if it weren't for its extensive marketing expense. That said, as long as Wish acquires new MAUs and increases value through logistic services, its marketing expenses pay off in the long run. Moreover, as a percentage of total revenues, Wish's marketing expenses have dropped to 60%, down from 67% in the year prior.
\n
Source: Wish IR
\n
In terms of the outlook, this is what the company is essentially stressing. It believes marketing expenses can decrease to 40-45%, leading to EBITDA margins of 25% at the midpoint range. If it achieves these ambitious goals (which is very well possible), its profitability margins would be similar to those of eBay or MercadoLibre(NASDAQ:MELI). In either way, Wish's business model is not perfect, but all these concerns are more than baked in its current valuation, IMO (In My Opinion).
\n
Data byYCharts
\n
Even after the latest +50% rise, shares are still trailing far behind peers such as Poshmark(NASDAQ:POSH), eBay, Amazon, and (Shopify(NYSE:SHOP)). At over $3 billion estimated revenues, Wish is trading at just 1.8x Price to Sales, just half of eBay's current valuation and much lower than Poshmark. Current estimates are calling for over $6 billion in revenues by 2025 and $1 billion in free cash flow, meaning that Wish trades at just 7x free cash flow estimates, or 1 times sales. In early 2021, its P/S ratio stood closer to 5x, so there is potential for a valuation expansion.
\n
What about the Lawsuits?
\n
Perhaps you've seen the news (especially on Yahoo Finance) regarding the class actionlawsuits. These lawsuits are extensively posted to remind investors of recovering incurred losses after its share price dropped in recent months. Such lawsuits are not unusual when stocks drop sharply in a short period of time and are likely of no concern to investors. These lawsuits have also included companies such asCloverHealth(NASDAQ:CLOV), Skillz(NYSE:SKLZ), Array Technologies(NASDAQ:ARRY), etc.
\n
Short Interest - Still High
\n
Source: Fintel
\n
Wish has gained significant attraction from retail investors, as investors were looking for the next big short squeeze. Since most of Wish's shares have still been locked up, its exact short ratio was difficult to estimate. According to Seeking Alpha, the current short ratio stands at just 7%, but the figure is likely higher. Last week, its short interest as a percent of its equity float stood at roughly 48%, according to Bloomberg Terminal data. Other sources such as Fintel pin the current short volume at 20-30%. Now, it's difficult to give an exact estimate, but generally speaking, it's probably somewhere within this range, and many short calls are still to be covered. In the long term, the high-short interest could be an advantage, leading to a quicker acceleration if the stock begins trending upwards.
\n
The Bottom Line
\n
I believe that Wish remains one of the most underappreciated assets within e-commerce, boasting over 100 million monthly users on its platform and connecting thousands of merchants from all over the world. The mobile shopping app continues to be one of the top downloaded shopping apps in the space and has a unique value proposition, which is smarter than it appears at first sight. Moreover, its latestpartnershipwith PrestaShop will give over 300,000 merchants free access to a direct integration that connects them directly to Wish's merchant dashboard, further driving growth. While there are risks to Wish's imperfect business model, such as lagging profitability, patient investors could be rewarded mightily.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Wish Stock: Patient Investors Could Soon See $20 Again
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWish Stock: Patient Investors Could Soon See $20 Again\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-16 13:45 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nWish (ContextLogic) remains one of the most underappreciated assets within e-commerce trading at just 1.3x forward EV to Sales.\nWish's latest partnership with PrestaShop will further ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4434950-wish-stock-patient-investors-could-soon-see-20-again","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1148768572","content_text":"Summary\n\nWish (ContextLogic) remains one of the most underappreciated assets within e-commerce trading at just 1.3x forward EV to Sales.\nWish's latest partnership with PrestaShop will further accelerate international expansion and growth initiatives.\nWhile accurate data regarding its short interest is difficult to find as most of its float is still locked up, I estimate a short interest between 30-40%.\nI believe bear arguments including high marketing spend and stalling user numbers are already baked in the current share price.\n\nJuSun/iStock via Getty Images\nOverview\nContextLogic (WISH) has been a wild ride for shareholders, as high volatility continues to cause significant price movements in recent weeks. In early 2021, its P/S ratio stood closer to 5x, so there is potential for a valuation expansion.\nWhat about the Lawsuits?\nPerhaps you've seen the news (especially on Yahoo Finance) regarding the class actionlawsuits. These lawsuits are extensively posted to remind investors of recovering incurred losses after its share price dropped in recent months. Such lawsuits are not unusual when stocks drop sharply in a short period of time and are likely of no concern to investors. These lawsuits have also included companies such asCloverHealth(NASDAQ:CLOV), Skillz(NYSE:SKLZ), Array Technologies(NASDAQ:ARRY), etc.\nShort Interest - Still High\nSource: Fintel\nWish has gained significant attraction from retail investors, as investors were looking for the next big short squeeze. In the long term, the high-short interest could be an advantage, leading to a quicker acceleration if the stock begins trending upwards.\nThe Bottom Line\nI believe that Wish remains one of the most underappreciated assets within e-commerce, boasting over 100 million monthly users on its platform and connecting thousands of merchants from all over the world. While there are risks to Wish's imperfect business model, such as lagging profitability, patient investors could be rewarded mightily.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":518,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":188883861,"gmtCreate":1623427883453,"gmtModify":1704203557723,"author":{"id":"3571725482264258","authorId":"3571725482264258","name":"Lorene","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1aaecc8d2463e873c299fa0379df632f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571725482264258","authorIdStr":"3571725482264258"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Speechless] [Speechless] ","listText":"[Speechless] [Speechless] ","text":"[Speechless] [Speechless]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/188883861","repostId":"2142022769","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2142022769","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1623380100,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2142022769?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-11 10:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"We put 6 more meme stocks' numbers to the test and the differences are telling","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2142022769","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Digging deeper into the the meme stock phenomenon, there are big difference between Palantir, Wendy's, Canoo and other companies. The world of meme stocks is changing every day as traders communicating through Reddit's WallStreetBets channel and other social media set their sights on new targets for short squeezes or find other downtrodden companies to bid up in price. After last week's look at financial results and projections for the four BANG stocks and four other meme companies, what follows i","content":"
\n Digging deeper into the the meme stock phenomenon, there are big difference between Palantir, Wendy's, Canoo and other companies.\n
\n
The world of meme stocks is changing every day as traders communicating through Reddit's WallStreetBets channel and other social media set their sights on new targets for short squeezes or find other downtrodden companies to bid up in price.
\n
After last week's look at financial results and projections for the four BANG stocks and four other meme companies, what follows is the same treatment for six more.
\n
(The BANG stocks are BlackBerry Ltd. (BB.T), AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc $(AMC)$, Nokia Corp. Shorting means borrowing a company's shares and selling them immediately, in the hope of buying them back at a lower price, returning them to the lender and pocketing the difference. If you simply buy a stock hoping it will go up, all you risk is the money you invest. You might get wiped out. But if you short a stock, your risk potential is unlimited. You never know how high the price might rise if you have gotten the trade wrong.
\n
\"Covering\" a short position is when you buy back the shares to return them to the investor who lent them to you. You are hoping to cover at a lower price than you sold the shares for, to make a profit.
\n
To have a short position, you need to have a margin account with a broker -- an account that lets you borrow to invest or trade. Because of the risk in taking a short position, if the share price goes against you (higher), your broker will keep increasing its collateral requirements. If you run out of cash as the price keeps rising, you will be forced to cover at a loss. That type of action among a large group of short-sellers pushes the price higher in a spiral -- a short squeeze.
\n
Six more meme stocks
\n
The action changes daily. On June 9, for example, shares of Clover Health Investments Corp. $(CLOV)$ fell 24% after rising 86% the day before. The stock is 36.6% sold short, according to FactSet.
\n
Read:Newest meme stock darling Clover Health is popping. Tesla Inc. $(TSLA)$ is an excellent example to provide more context, because the company has such a large market capitalization of $576.8 billion. Only 5.16% of the shares are sold short, but that comes to $29.8 billion in short interest -- the most (in dollars) for any stock in the S&P 500. Amazon.com Inc. $(AMZN)$ ranks second for dollars of short interest in the benchmark index, with 1.09% of shares sold short, which comes to $18.1 billion in short interest for a company with a market cap of $1.66 trillion.
\n
Canoo Inc. (GOEV) is the second-most heavily shorted stock listed above, at 29.5%. The electric-vehicle maker was formed on Dec. 21 through the merger of Canoo Holdings Ltd. and Hennessy Capital Acquisition Corp. IV, a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. Canoo expects to produce its first vehicle in mid-2022 in limited quantities, with \"serial production launching in 2023,\" according to its 10-K report filed on March 31.
\n
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. $(CLNE.AU)$ provides natural gas for use as an alternative to gasoline or diesel for fleets of vehicles. (BB.T), AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc $(AMC)$, Nokia Corp. (NOKIA.HE) and GameStop Corp. $(GME)$.)\nShort squeezes and meme stocks\nTraders looking to group together on social media to make quick killings by pushing up share prices of companies at early stages or those going through difficult times have been setting up short squeezes.\nProfessional investors have traditionally short-sold shares of companies they believe will perform worse than most other investors or analysts expect. You never know how high the price might rise if you have gotten the trade wrong.\n\"Covering\" a short position is when you buy back the shares to return them to the investor who lent them to you. You are hoping to cover at a lower price than you sold the shares for, to make a profit.\nTo have a short position, you need to have a margin account with a broker -- an account that lets you borrow to invest or trade. Because of the risk in taking a short position, if the share price goes against you (higher), your broker will keep increasing its collateral requirements. If you run out of cash as the price keeps rising, you will be forced to cover at a loss. That type of action among a large group of short-sellers pushes the price higher in a spiral -- a short squeeze.\nSix more meme stocks\nThe action changes daily. On June 9, for example, shares of Clover Health Investments Corp. $(CLOV)$ fell 24% after rising 86% the day before. The stock is 36.6% sold short, according to FactSet.\nRead:Newest meme stock darling Clover Health is popping. Is the SEC watching?\nHere are the six additional meme stocks, following our initial group of eight , sorted by market capitalization as of the close on June 9:\n\nPalantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) provides a software platform used by government defense and intelligence agencies. It is the largest company on the list by market cap, but not by revenue, as you can see below. A year-to-date chart of its price performance shows how wild the meme-stock action can be:\n\nPalantir's stock was up 3% for 2021 through June 9, but its market cap had increased by 26% because the company had been raising cash by selling additional shares to investors. The company's following as a meme stock seems to spring more from its growth prospects than from short interest, which peaked at 8.5% of shares available for sale, according to FactSet.\nWendy's Co. $(WEN)$ is another meme stock whose addition to the group may be a bit confusing, as the stock isn't heavily shorted and the company is stable. Thornton McEnery dug into the action on June 8, which may have included confusion over Wendy's ticker symbol , when the stock rose 26%.\nContextLogic Inc. (WISH) is one of two stocks on the new list that have fallen this year. The mobile e-commerce company's stock opened below its initial public offering price before the IPO.\nShort interest\nKeeping the group in the same order, here are levels of short interest as percentages of available shares and in dollars:\n\nFactSet's data on short positions as a percentage of shares outstanding is updated twice a month. The data was updated overnight between June 9 and 10. The second update takes place around the 25th day of the month.\nClover is the most heavily shorted stock on the list. Brad Lamensdorf, CEO of ActiveAlts in Westport, Conn., who runs long and short investment strategies, said previously that a short percentage \"over 30% to 40% is outrageously high.\" (Lamensdorf co-manages the AdvisorShares Ranger Equity Bear ETF (HDGE), which is meant to be used as a hedging tool.)\nA high percentage of shares sold short makes a stock especially dangerous for the short-sellers, because it can increase the intensity of any short squeeze.\nWe have shown the short interest as a percentage of market cap in order to provide context. $(AMZN)$ ranks second for dollars of short interest in the benchmark index, with 1.09% of shares sold short, which comes to $18.1 billion in short interest for a company with a market cap of $1.66 trillion.\nCanoo Inc. Canoo expects to produce its first vehicle in mid-2022 in limited quantities, with \"serial production launching in 2023,\" according to its 10-K report filed on March 31.\nClean Energy Fuels Corp. $(CLNE.AU)$ provides natural gas for use as an alternative to gasoline or diesel for fleets of vehicles. The stock is 6.58% sold-short, but has had a good run this year as the energy sector has recovered.\nFundamentals\nWe'll look back at sales results for this group of six meme stocks and then look ahead at sales estimates through 2023.\n\nLooking back\n\nFirst, here's a comparison of annual sales, in millions of dollars for the past five reported fiscal years (where available):\n\nYou can see clear growth paths in recent years for Palantir, Wendy's and ContextLogic, while Clean Energy Fuels had understandable challenges from lower natural gas prices in 2020.\nClover was incorporated on Oct. 18, 2019. It hasn't yet reported annual revenue. For the first quarter, the company reported $200.3 million in sales, up from $165.5 million in the first quarter of 2020. Clover merged with Social Capital Hedosophia Holdings Corp. III (a SPAC) on Jan. 7.\n\nLooking ahead -- sales\n\nStarting from a baseline of calendar 2021, here are sales estimates going out through 2023 among Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet:\n\nDouble-digit or better sales growth is expected for all of the companies over the next two years except Wendy's. Price-to-sale ratios, based on closing share prices on June 9 and the 2023 estimates, are included. In comparison, the S&P 500 trades for 2.5 times its weighted aggregate consensus sales estimate for 2023.\nLooking ahead -- earnings\nHere are earnings-per-share estimates going out to 2023:\n\nYou might not have expected the EPS projections to be particularly useful, but they underscore how high these stocks are trading. The S&P 500 trades for 18.4 times its consensus EPS estimate for 2023.\nThe estimates show expected improvement for Palantir, if it manages to maintain its rapid sales growth. Wendy's is expected to improve EPS significantly even with modest sale growth, in part because of stock buybacks .\nWall Street's opinion\nHere's a summary of opinion for this group of meme stocks among Wall Street analysts:\n\nSo the Wall Street analysts have the most love for ContextLogic, with 82% \"buy\" or equivalent ratings. Second place goes to Clean Energy Fuels. For that company, the timing, in a year of economic and fuel-price recovery, not to mention the desire among many investors to help lower carbon emissions, seems perfect.\nWall Street is skeptical of Palantir and Clover Health, but it would seem for different reasons, as Palantir already has a history of rapid sales growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":446,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":183247081,"gmtCreate":1623334110943,"gmtModify":1704201170765,"author":{"id":"3571725482264258","authorId":"3571725482264258","name":"Lorene","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1aaecc8d2463e873c299fa0379df632f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571725482264258","authorIdStr":"3571725482264258"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[What] [What] ","listText":"[What] [What] ","text":"[What] [What]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/183247081","repostId":"1128810191","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1128810191","pubTimestamp":1623307595,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1128810191?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-10 14:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Company spending is 'going ballistic.' It said U.S. firms were benefiting from a “huge turnaround” in capex and its picks include semiconductor firmAnalog Devicesand truck-makerPaccar. It also likes farm equipment companyJohn Deere, as well as air conditioning company Carrier Global.\nWhen it comes to international corporate spending, the analysts, led by Sean Darby, said: “We were wrong! It is not just the US that is enjoying a huge turnaround in capital investment intentions – even outside of Tech – but also the Rest-of-the-World.”\nJefferies’ international picks include Swedish leisure product manufacturerDometic Groupand German luxury RV-makerKnaus Tabbert, as well as Japanese firmHitachi Constructionand Chinese engineering firmChina Railway Group. All are buy-rated.\nEnergy and materials\nIn a note Monday, JPMorgan said it had put together two baskets of stocks: those set to benefit from President Biden’s infrastructure plan, and those likely to do well from the EU recovery fund. Firms that appear on both lists include steel firmArcelorMittaland Spanish energy companiesEDP RenewablesandIberdrola.\nTechnology and communications\nAnalysts from JPMorgan also picked semiconductor firmsInfineon TechnologiesandSTMicroelectronicsfor both their U.S. and European lists, as well as German firmDeutsche Telekom.\nFirms that appear on both Jefferies’ and JPMorgan’s lists include medical technology groupSiemens Healthineers, French train manufacturerAlstomand security firmAssa Abloy.\nA number of factors have combined to stimulate a capital spending surge, according to Jefferies’ analysts. These include old equipment that needs replacing, “buoyant” CEO confidence, an earnings turnaround leaving balance sheets “flush with cash,” and low industrial inventories.\n“Our US capex indicator has quite literally gone ballistic. It took around six years from the GFC [global financial crisis] to 2015 before a capex recovery emerged in the previous cycle. This one has taken approximately 13 months and has surged to the highest reading in history,” Jefferies’ analysts wrote.\nFor JPMorgan, company profits have also meant a surge in spending. “Corporate capex is on an accelerating path this year, given the strong rebound in corporate profitability, where profits have tended to lead capex pretty consistently. Further, bank lending standards are continuing to improve, which helps capex decisions,” the bank’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":391,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":189807322,"gmtCreate":1623250027566,"gmtModify":1704199406568,"author":{"id":"3571725482264258","authorId":"3571725482264258","name":"Lorene","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1aaecc8d2463e873c299fa0379df632f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571725482264258","authorIdStr":"3571725482264258"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"like POINTS\n\nMicrosoft has closed its $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda.\nMicrosoft confirmed that some new Bethesda games would be exclusive to Xbox consoles and PCs.\nThe firm has often been seen as lagging behind Sony when it comes to major first-party releases.\n\nMicrosoft says it has closed its blockbuster acquisition of ZeniMax, the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda.\nThe company announced in September that it would buy ZeniMax for $7.5 billion in cash. It’s the biggest gaming acquisition in Microsoft’s history, eclipsing the $2.5 billion the firm paid to buy Minecraft developer Mojang in 2014.\nThe Bethesda deal’s completion comes days after the European Union and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission gave the takeover their blessing. Bethesda is a household name in gaming. It’s published a number of hit franchises including the role-playing game series Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, and the Doom shooter franchise.\nIn a blog postTuesday, Microsoft confirmed rumors that some new Bethesda games would be exclusive to its Xbox console and Windows PCs.\n“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” said Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s Xbox unit.\nSuch a move would ramp up Microsoft’s competition withSony. Both firms debuted their next-generation consoles last year, hoping to lure in gamers with the promise of big improvements on the older systems.\nMicrosoft took a different approach to Sony though, heavily marketing its Xbox Game Pass subscription service which offers players access to a library of games. Sony, on the other hand, is touting new PlayStation exclusives to attract gamers.\nWith Bethesda, Microsoft is hoping to build out Xbox Game Pass by including the Rockville, Maryland-based studio’s catalog of titles. This, combined with excellent fundamentals, a clean balance sheet, a healthy growth outlook, and an inexpensive valuation should result in considerable upside potential over the coming four years, although there are some risk factors that investors should keep an eye on.
\n
FB Stock Price
\n
Facebook, Inc. is, thanks to massive profitability and a dominating position in social media, one of the highest-valued companies in the United States. With shares trading at $335 each, Facebook is currently valued at around $940 billion, not far from the rare $1 trillion mark that has been breached by just a couple of stocks, such as Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN).
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Shares of Facebook have climbed by 45% over the last year, which is very close to the broad market's 42% total return over the same time frame. In early 2021, shares had lagged the market, but more recently, Facebook's stock has experienced a sizeable uptick, and shares are trading very close to all-time highs today. Nevertheless, FB stock isn't really expensive, as shares are trading for 25x this year's expected earnings per share right now, which is pretty close to the S&P 500's (SPY) 2021 expected earnings multiple of 23x (according to YCharts). Facebook trades at a small premium compared to the broad market, but that could very well be justified, based on Facebook's quality, moat, and compelling growth rates. In fact, I believe that Facebook, at 25x forward earnings and a revenue growth rate of 20%+, is more attractive than many stocks that trade at 23x forward earnings and that do not grow by anything close to 20%+ a year.
\n
We can also take a look at Facebook's historic valuation ranges in order to gauge whether the current valuation makes sense:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Historically, Facebook was more expensive than it is today. To some degree, that makes sense, as relative revenue growth and earnings growth were higher a couple of years ago versus today. But still, at an earnings multiple that is clearly below the long-term median, Facebook can't be called expensive today -- even after an attractive 21% year-to-date gain for its shares.
\n
Is Facebook Stock Going To Go Up?
\n
In the short term, stock prices can be driven by psychology, market sentiment, etc. In the long run, however, fundamentals and underlying cash flows and earnings decide whether a stock is going up or down. In Facebook's case, we have seen times when the stock price moved in a different direction compared to the business. Take, for example, Facebook's share price decline in H2 of 2018, when shares dropped from $200+ to as low as $130. Was this based on declining revenue and weak profitability? The answer is a resounding no -- underlying growth remained highly attractive in that time frame:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Revenues continued to climb, and so did FB's earnings per share. And yet, the market value of Facebook's shares dropped by more than one-third. This can be explained by weak sentiment, as the market worried about changes to the news feed on the Facebook platform, while other issues such as the Cambridge Analytica data collection scandal hurt sentiment as well. None of these issues, however, impacted Facebook's operations on a lasting basis, showcased by the fact that revenue and profits continued to grow as if there had been no scandal at all.
\n
Not surprisingly, not too much later, the market realized that none of these issues would doom Facebook and that the company was still executing very well. The stock recovered relatively quickly and started to climb to new highs, which resulted in steep gains for those that bought at the lows, while the market was fearful.
\n
The same should hold true in the future as well. There will always be a reason to worry and some scandal or issue, but the market tends to overreact to these things that usually do not impact Facebook meaningfully. This includes, for example, the ad boycotts of the past -- none of these ever led to a large revenue or profit decline.
\n
In the long run, Facebook's stock should thus continue to climb as long as the company is able to execute well and grow its business, and I believe that there is a good chance for that. This does, however, not mean that share prices will never experience declines. History has shown that those declines occur from time to time, but eventually, share prices will start to climb again in order to catch up with fundamentals.
\n
Facebook's revenue and earnings growth in future years will rest on several pillars. The first of these is user growth -- despite its already massive scale, Facebook manages to grow its user count very reliably, adding about 150 million new daily active users across its platforms over the last year alone:
\n
Source: FBpresentation
\n
We see that there has not been a single quarter in the recent past during which Facebook's user count declined. Since the world is growing more interconnected every year, and since more and more people get access to the internet in many markets around the globe, the same growth tailwinds should exist in the future, too, I believe. Since Facebookowns 4 out of the top 5 social networks,it will be a key beneficiary of global industry growth, although it should be noted that in some markets, primarily China, access to its platforms is restricted. More or less everywhere else, however, Facebook continues to experience user growth, including in North America.
\n
On top of that, Facebook can also grow its revenue by increasing monetization, i.e. by collecting more dollars per user. Marketing budgets around the globe are increasingly being shifted towards social media and online marketing, which allows for better targeting, faster ad campaigns, etc. Social media marketing budgets are expected to continue togrow at a rapid pace, and again, thanks to its dominance in this industry, Facebook should be one of the biggest winners from this trend. Last but not least, Facebook also is seeking to create new revenue sources, which includes monetizing WhatsApp, e.g.by integrating payment options.
\n
Facebook also continues to spend heavily on R&D ($19.6 billion over the last four quarters according to YCharts), which includes hardware gadgets such as smartwatches, and AR devices. Augmented reality and virtual reality don't drive revenue growth in the near term, but these projects could be long-term drivers of Facebook's success during the second half of the 2020s if the company's projects come to fruition.
\n
Facebook's earnings per share growth will also be positively impacted by share buybacks. Thanks to strong free cash flows and a very clean balance sheet, which holds a $65 billion net cash position according tothe most recent 10-Q filing, Facebook can easily spend dozens of billions of dollars on repurchasing its own shares without getting into financial troubles. Over the years, these buybacks should grow into a meaningful factor for the company's ongoing EPS growth story.
\n
With all these growth factors in place, it is not really surprising to see that the analyst community, overall, is relatively bullish on Facebook's long-term outlook:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
EPS is forecasted to grow by 15% in 2022, by 17% in 2023, and by 21% per year in the long run. Even if these estimates are too bullish and Facebook achieves just two-thirds of what analysts are forecasting right now, Facebook would still deliver highly attractive EPS growth well in the double-digits over the coming years.
\n
Facebook Stock Forecast For 2025
\n
Based on Facebook's expected growth, I believe that there is considerable upside for shares over the next four years. If Facebook hits EPS of $13.10 this year, and grow its EPS by 14% a year through 2025, which would be significantly less than the past growth rate and significantly less than the current consensus, thus this is a rather conservative estimate, then FB's EPS in 2025 would be $22.10 in 2025.
\n
Facebook currently trades at 25x earnings, and I do not think this is a too-high multiple at all. But let's nevertheless assume that there will be some multiple contraction over the next four years in order to be conservative. If Facebook trades at 22x its EPS in 2025, which would be significantly less than the long-term median earnings multiple FB has traded at in the past, then we get to a share price target of $486 in 2025. Rounding this to $490, we get to an expected upside of around 45% from the current price over the next 4.5 years, which equates to a 9% annual return. Even in this rather conservative scenario, shares should thus generate healthy returns over the coming years, which tells me that FB is still attractive today -- even though shares were, of course, even more attractive at $250 earlier this year.
\n
Takeaway
\n
Facebook controls four out of the top five social networks, which gives it an incredible moat thanks to network effects. Most consumers naturally flock to the largest platforms, because that is where all their friends and family members are. Facebook should be able to grow its revenue and its profits materially in the future, even though growth will eventually slow down from what we have seen in the past -- no company can grow at 50% a year forever.
\n
No investment is without risk, and there are some risks that investors should consider here as well. FB is highly dependent on key personnel such as CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and due to its dominance in the social media industry, FB is a potential target of anti-trust legislation. So far, even though there have been a couple of senate hearings where Mark Zuckerberg and others were questioned, politicians have not really moved against the company, and I do not expect this to happen in the foreseeable future, either. This is still a potential risk that investors should keep in mind.
\n
Overall, Facebook has the ability to generate attractive returns over the coming years, which is why I continue to happily hold my shares. FB will likely experience some share price ups and downs from time to time, as it did in the past, but ultimately, the company's strong fundamentals, healthy growth, and shareholder return program should lead to gains for those that invest with a long-term mindset.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Facebook Stock Forecast For 2025: What Is In Store?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFacebook Stock Forecast For 2025: What Is In Store?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-16 14:10 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nFacebook is a dominant company in its industry, has a great moat, and benefits from macro tailwinds such as digitalization.\nUser growth, increased monetization of its platforms, and share ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4434920-facebook-stock-forecast-2025","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1172455870","content_text":"Summary\n\nFacebook is a dominant company in its industry, has a great moat, and benefits from macro tailwinds such as digitalization.\nUser growth, increased monetization of its platforms, and share buybacks should result in ample EPS growth over the coming years.\nEven when we use rather conservative assumptions, the upside potential for FB is quite meaningful, which is why I deem the stock attractive.\n\nJuSun/iStock via Getty Images\nArticle Thesis\nFacebook (FB) is a dominant social media company in the markets it serves, and its moat makes it likely that it will continue to hold the top spots in this space with its social networks. This, combined with excellent fundamentals, a clean balance sheet, a healthy growth outlook, and an inexpensive valuation should result in considerable upside potential over the coming four years, although there are some risk factors that investors should keep an eye on.\nFB Stock Price\nFacebook, Inc. is, thanks to massive profitability and a dominating position in social media, one of the highest-valued companies in the United States. With shares trading at $335 each, Facebook is currently valued at around $940 billion, not far from the rare $1 trillion mark that has been breached by just a couple of stocks, such as Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN).\nData by YCharts\nShares of Facebook have climbed by 45% over the last year, which is very close to the broad market's 42% total return over the same time frame. In fact, I believe that Facebook, at 25x forward earnings and a revenue growth rate of 20%+, is more attractive than many stocks that trade at 23x forward earnings and that do not grow by anything close to 20%+ a year.\nWe can also take a look at Facebook's historic valuation ranges in order to gauge whether the current valuation makes sense:\nData by YCharts\nHistorically, Facebook was more expensive than it is today. To some degree, that makes sense, as relative revenue growth and earnings growth were higher a couple of years ago versus today. But still, at an earnings multiple that is clearly below the long-term median, Facebook can't be called expensive today -- even after an attractive 21% year-to-date gain for its shares.\nIs Facebook Stock Going To Go Up?\nIn the short term, stock prices can be driven by psychology, market sentiment, etc. It said U.S. firms were benefiting from a “huge turnaround” in capex and its picks include semiconductor firmAnalog Devicesand truck-makerPaccar. Further, bank lending standards are continuing to improve, which helps capex decisions,” the bank’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":391,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365186985,"gmtCreate":1614702723947,"gmtModify":1704774318924,"author":{"id":"3571725482264258","authorId":"3571725482264258","name":"Lorene","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1aaecc8d2463e873c299fa0379df632f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571725482264258","authorIdStr":"3571725482264258"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"oh no","listText":"oh no","text":"oh no","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/365186985","repostId":"1122180672","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1122180672","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"为用户提供金融资讯、行情、数据,旨在帮助投资者理解世界,做投资决策。","home_visible":1,"media_name":"老虎资讯综合","id":"102","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1614697099,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1122180672?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-02 22:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"NIO plunged more than 7%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1122180672","media":"老虎资讯综合","summary":"(March 2) NIO Inc. reported a wider-than-expected loss for its fourth quarter, but issued strong re","content":"
(March 2) NIO Inc. reported a wider-than-expected loss for its fourth quarter, but issued strong revenue guidance for the first quarter.
